Updated January 15th, 8:55AM EST Sources tell MLB.com’s William Ladson that the report saying the Nationals are interested in Chris Young are “not true”. Earlier this week, it was reported that the Nationals were the other team, besides the Mets, who are interested in Chris Youngs services. This means the Mets are the lone wolf in the running for Chris Young. Or is there a yet unknown team in the mix that is keeping this marriage from going through? Original Post […]
According ESPNNewYork.com’s Adam Rubin, Mets reliever Ryota Igarashi, has officially cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo. Rubin also says that Igarashi will be in major league camp this spring, competing for a spot on the team.
According to Doug Miller of MLB.com, former Mets starter Kris Benson has apparently retired, saying “I’m done”. Benson pitched for the Mets in 2004 and 2005 after he was acquired with Jeff Keppinger in exchange for Ty Wigginton and Jose Bautista. (yes, that Jose Bautista!) Benson went 14-12 as a Met with a 4.23 ERA in 242 1/3 innings. He was traded to the Orioles prior to the 2006 season in exchange for Jorge Julio and John Maine. As […]
Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com is reporting that the Mets reportedly will not pay the next starter they sign more than 1.5 million guaranteed dollars, which is what the Mets gave Chris Capuano. This has not been confirmed by any means, but if this is indeed true, I would now cross Jeff Francis off the list as far as a possible signing for the Mets because its been said that Jeff Francis wants around $3 million. If […]
Well, its that time of year again. Its time to decide who was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Its that time of year where we argue, dispute, and elect those worthy of joining the best of the best, of all baseball players in the Hall of Fame. The BBWAA announced today (drum roll please….) that they elected Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Both are joining former GM […]
According to SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt via twitter, the Mets have signed Chris Capuano to a 1-year deal. Capuano went 4-4, with 54 K’s, and a 3.95 ERA for the Brewers in 2010. Recently, Rising Apple discussed Chris Capuano as an option for the Mets in the back of the rotation. The Mets, as we all know, need someone to help out in the back of the roation especially as Johan Santana continues his rehab from […]
According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com, sources have told him that Wally Backman, who was a finalist for the Mets managers job, is expected to be named the manager of the Binghamton Mets. After Terry Collins was named manager, Wally Backman told The Bergen Record that he was “disappointed and devastated” that he wasn’t named manager. With this move, former Met Tim Teufel is now expected to be named manager of the Buffalo Bisons, according to […]
Oliver Perez is no stranger to days off. As we all know, the Mets would not use Oliver Perez out of the bullpen a lot during the season, thus giving him plenty of time off to ponder his predicament. It appears the Los Tomateros de Culiacan are taking the same approach with Oliver Perez, as the Amazin’s did. Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that after a “12-day layoff”, Oliver Perez finally got a chance to pitch. Last […]
According to SI.com’s Jon Heyman, the Mets are interested in Freddy Garcia, and have asked for his medical records. The Mets signed Garcia in 2009 on a minor league deal, but was not selected to the opening day roster and was released. I managed to take a look at Freddy Garcia’s stats, which actually were a surprise to me. Garcia went 12-6 with the White Sox, but had a mediocre ERA at 4.64. As far as signing Freddy Garcia […]
