So You Think You Know The Mets: Cleanup Hitter Edition

It’s been quite the season for our New York Metropolitans who woefully failed to meet any of our expectations in 2017. They’ve also managed a few noteworthy accomplishments, not all good, and even some oddities, one of which is the focus of this latest Mets quiz.

Did you know that eight different players have homered from the fourth spot in the batting order for the New York Mets this season, the most for any major league team?

Do you know which player batted cleanup the most times over his Mets career?

Here are your top 10…

Rank Player Starts
1 Darryl Strawberry 599
2 Mike Piazza 554
3 Dave Kingman 410
4 Rusty Staub 346
5 Bobby Bonilla 336
6 Gary Carter 302
7 Cleon Jones 292
8 Ed Kranepool 271
9 Carlos Delgado 259
10 George Foster 246

Wow, I didn’t expect to see Kranepool on this list. Ignore the starts, but which of these players was the ultimate cleanup hitter, the one you think fits the role the best? For me it’s between Piazza and Delgado but I always saw Piazza as a three hitter. I’ll take Delgado in his prime.

Sticking with the whole cleanup hitter theme, here is your MMO Mets Trivia Challenge!

An astounding 13 different players have batted cleanup for the Mets this season. You have two minutes name all 13. Is 13 your lucky number? Or will it doom you to a lackluster finish? Let’s find out!
