Rapid Reaction: Gsellman Goes Seven In 5-1 Victory

The New York Mets (65-84) defeated the Atlanta Braves (67-81) by a score of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at SunTrust Park.

Pitching

Robert Gsellman pitched beautifully for the Mets on Sunday afternoon. The right-hander threw seven innings of three hit ball, allowed an unearned run, while striking out three. After back-to-back errors by Amed Rosario in the seventh, a Jace Peterson RBI groundout brought home Atlanta’s only run of the game.

Jerry Blevins struck out a pair in a scoreless eighth inning.

AJ Ramos came on after tossing 30 pitches Saturday night, but worked around a single and a walk to secure a scoreless ninth inning.

Offense

The Mets jumped on Julio Teheran early, as their first two runs came in the top of the first.

After Nori Aoki drew a seven pitch walk to leadoff the game, Jose Reyes drove him home with a triple to right.

Brandon Nimmo and Dominic Smith both drew walks to load the bases with one out. Amed Rosario grounded into a fielders choice, bringing home Reyes.

In the ninth, the Mets added a trio of insurance runs. Philip Evans picked up a two out RBI double making it 3-1 New York. A batter later, Asdrubal Cabrera smacked a pinch-hit two run home run putting the game out of reach.

Nori Aoki was on-base four of the five times he came to bat, going 3-for-4 with a walk.

On deck

The Mets continue their road trip as they travel to Miami to take on Giancarlo Stanton and the Marlins. Matt Harvey will face off with Dan Straily at 7:10 p.m. at Marlins Park.
