The New York Mets have a new look to their lineup today with Michael Conforto no longer in the leadoff spot and instead hitting fourth. It will be just the fourth start for Conforto in the cleanup spot during his career.
However, this could become a theme says Terry Collins, “Conforto will hit in the middle of the order going forward this season.”
Conforto is hitting .289/.393/.556 this season with 19 doubles, 23 home runs, 65 runs scored and 58 RBI in 95 games. Conforto’s .393 OBP ranks 11th in the majors.
I’m hopeful that Collins and the Mets don’t continue to over think this with Conforto and get him back in the top three of the lineup.
Pretty simple that Conforto is the Mets best hitter right now and should be in a position to get more plate appearances. For example, Mike Trout has never started a major league game batting fourth and a majority of his time has been spent in the two hole.
