The New York Mets announced today that they have activated closer Jeurys Familia off the restricted list.
Familia pitched a perfect inning on Monday for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and a perfect inning for the St. Lucie Mets on Saturday.
Familia, 27, was serving a 15-game suspension stemming from a domestic incident last Halloween. Charges were dropped against Familia in December after his wife declined to further pursue the case
He’s coming off a 2016 in which he led Major League Baseball with 51 saves and had a 2.55 ERA in 77.2 innings. Addison Reed has filled in as the Mets closer so far this season with four saves and a 3.72 ERA over 9.2 innings.
To make room for Familia on the 40-man roster the Mets have shifted third baseman David Wright to the 60-day disabled list.
Lucas Duda (elbow) and Wilmer Flores (infection) will be unavailable tonight while Travis d’Arnaud (hand) will be able to play if needed. Meaning the Mets healthy bench will consist of Juan Lagares (played SS/3B in minors), Plawecki and d’Arnaud.
