Yankee Stadium held two NHL Stadium Series games back in 2014 that featured the New York Rangers, New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils, but now it looks as though Citi Field will host an NHL game of their own.

According to two sources confirmed to Newsday, the 2018 Winter Classic game between the Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres is likely to be held at Citi Field and is close to being finalized.

Though the Stadium Series has been featured in New York in the past, this would be the first time the Winter Classic makes an appearance in New York.

This season, the Winter Classic was held at Busch Stadium on Jan. 2 between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues.

If a deal is finalized, this will be the second time for the Rangers to appear in a Winter Classic game, the last being in 2012 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia versus the Flyers.

The Sabres held the first ever Winter Classic game back in 2008, so the team appearing in 2018 would be appropriate for the 10-year anniversary.
