According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, free agent slugger Jose Bautista is willing to take a one year deal. However, the deal must be worth more than the $17.2 million qualifying offer he turned down earlier this offseason.
This makes his market very interesting, as teams seem weary of offering the 36 year-old a multi year deal.
While this would make the Mets a possible landing spot, there is no chance they sign him without having traded Jay Bruce and/or Curtis Granderson first. By that time, even if they were interested in Bautista, he will likely have signed elsewhere.
Playing in only 116 games in 2016, Bautista hit .234/.366/.452 with 22 home runs and 69 RBIs.
