The Mets are slipping fast and need a life raft. Hopefully that comes in the form of Jacob deGrom today as he takes on the Padres.

The Mets are 3-7 in their last 10 games and have lost a season high-tying four straight games. It’s the fifth time the club has lost four games in a row. The Mets are 10-17 since the All-Star break.

The Mets have activated Jose Reyes and recalled Gabriel Ynoa. To make room for them, Logan Verrett and Matt Reynolds were optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.  Reyes is batting leadoff tonight and playing shortstop.

Mets Lineup

  1. Jose Reyes – SS
  2. Curtis Granderson – LF
  3. Neil Walker – 2B
  4. Jay Bruce – RF
  5. James Loney – 1B
  6. Wilmer Flores – 3B
  7. Alejandro De Aza – CF
  8. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  9. Jacob deGrom – RHP

Padres Lineup

  1. Travis Jankowski – CF

  7. Christian Bethancourt – C
  8. Nick Noonan – SS
  9. Jarred Cosart – SP

Jacob deGrom is 7-5 over 20 starts and 126.1 innings with a 2.35 ERA. In his last three starts, he’s allowed 1 ER over 20.2 innings putting up an ERA of 0.44. The offense behind him hasn’t been the greatest so the team is 2-1 in those starts and Jacob personally is 1-0.

His first start against the Padres this year was average as he allowed 3 ER over 5.0 innings, but also occurred during his average streak of 5 starts earlier in the season. The Padres have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • Bethancourt 0-7
  • Solarte 0-6
  • Myers 1-3, HR
  • Wallace 2-2, 2B
  • Cosart 1-2
  • Norris 2-2, 2B
  • Ramirez 1-2, 2B

The Mets will get a look at the former Marlin, now Padre, Jarred Cosart. Cosart was involved in a trade deal in 2014 with the Astros where he was arguably the main target for Miami. Then this year when the Marlins needed pitching bolstering, they traded him to San Diego.

In two starts with the Padres, he’s allowed 5 ER over 8.1 innings or a 5.40 ERA which is close to his time with the Marlins allowing 14 runs, 13 earned over 19.2 innings with a 5.95 ERA. His first start of the season was against the Mets where he allowed 3 ER over 4.2 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Cosart:

  • Granderson 0-14
  • Flores 4-11, 2B, HR
  • Loney 2-11, 2B
  • d’Arnaud 1-6
  • K Johnson 0-6
  • Conforto 2-3, 2B
  • Bruce 1-2

Let’s Go Mets!
