The Mets (66-74) defeated the Miami Marlins (67-71) tonight by a score of 4-3

What you should know:

Casey McGehee opened up the scoring for Miami in the bottom of the third inning on an infield single that deflected off Jacob deGrom‘s glove to score Christian Yelich.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis gave the Mets the lead in the top of the fourth as he launched his third home run of the year, a two-run shot to right field.

Jacob deGrom pitched six innings for New York, allowing just the one run, on six hits while walking two and striking out six. Though he labored through a lot of pitches, he was in line for the win, however, Miami tied the game up in the bottom of the seventh on a Christian Yelich RBI single, giving deGrom a no decision.

The Mets took the lead 4-2 in the top of the eighth, on a Travis d’Arnaud double to score Matt den Dekker, and a RBI groundout from Dilson Herrera to score Lucas Duda.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his third home run of the series, and 36th of the year in the bottom of the eighth off Carlos Torres to pull the Marlins within one run.

Jenrry Mejia shut the door for the Mets in the bottom of the ninth, earning his 23rd save of the season.

Player of the Game: Jacob deGrom

deGrom pitched six quality innings, and despite taking a no decision, pitched well enough to earn a win.

On deck:

The Mets open up a three game weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark Friday night with Bartolo Colon (12-11, 4.01 ERA) taking on Alfredo Simon (13-9, 3.28 ERA).
