The Mets look to salvage a part of their series against the Nationals tonight with Dillon Gee (4-4, 3.54) taking on Stephen Strasburg (8-10, 3.68) at 7:10 pm from Citi Field.

In Gee’s last start he received a no-decision in the 2-1 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies on August 9th at Citizens Bank Park. He pitched 7.0 innings, his longest outing since July 9, allowing one earned run, a home run to Carlos Ruiz as he walked three while striking out four.

Travis d’Arnaud has three home runs and two doubles over his last seven games. He is hitting .277 (39-141) with 21 runs scored, 10 doubles, seven home runs and 21 RBI in 38 games since returning from Triple-A on June 24th.

Daniel Murphy now leads the National League and is third in the majors with 149 hits. He is also third in the NL with 33 doubles, is tied for first with Washington’s Denard Span with 44 multi-hit games and eighth with a .303 batting average.

Matt den Dekker is batting .333 (5-15) with one double and one RBI in four games since returning from Las Vegas. He has at least one hit in three of the four games and multi-hits in two contests.

It was a disappointing game for the Mets last night. Twice late in the game (7th and 9th innings) they had a real opportunity to score runs and tie or take the lead in the game but it didn’t happen. Today they will try to right themselves as they take on Stephen Strasburg behind Dillon Gee.

Dillon Gee is 4-4 on the season over 14 games and 89.0 innings with a 3.54 ERA. After a stretch of horrid to average bad starts since coming off of the DL, he finally got it together in his last start allowing 1 ER over 7.0 innings. His first start of the season was against the Nationals where he allowed 4 ER over 6.2 innings. The Nationals have the following numbers against Gee:

  • Werth 11-37, 3 2B, HR
  • Desmond 7-35, 3 HR
  • LaRoche 5-25, 2B, 2 HR
  • Span 5-22, 2 2B, HR
  • Ramos 4-19, 2B, HR
  • Espinosa 1-13

Strasburg is 8-10 on the season over 25 games and 156.1 innings with a 3.68 ERA. He is coming off his second worst start of the year where he allowed 7 ER over 7 hits and 5.0 innings while striking out 9 agaisnt the Braves. His first start of the season was against the Mets where he allowed 4 ER over 5 hits and 6.0 innings while striking out 10. The Mets have the following numbers against Stephen:
