jacob degromTonight the Mets open up a series against the division rival Phillies. Although these two teams aren’t going anywhere this year, beating the Phillies always feels good. The Mets will send Jacob deGrom (6-6, 3.13) to the hill against right-hander David Buchanan (6-7, 4.21).

Jacob deGrom had his career-high five-game win streak snapped in the Mets’ 7-4 loss at Dodger Stadium on August 23rd. He threw 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and five earned runs, including a home run to Adrian Gonzalez in the loss. deGrom walked two and struck out seven in his first start since coming off the 15-Day Disabled List.

Dilson Herrera will wear #2 and will start at second base tonight. Herrera, a native of Cartagena, Columbia, will become the 14th player born in Columbia to appear in the majors and the first with the Mets. At age 20, he was the youngest player in the Eastern League this year where he hit .340 (82-241) with 50 runs scored, 17 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 48 RBI and nine stolen bases in 61 games.

In one start against the Phillies this year he allowed 3 ER over 6.1 innings and struck out 11 batters. The Phils have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • Byrd 0-3
