The Mets continue their weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight at 9:10 PM. Rookie righthander Jacob deGrom (6-5, 2.87) comes off the disabled list and will oppose All-Star Zack Greinke (12-8, 2.75) for the Dodgers.

DeGrom established a rookie franchise record hurling 67.1 innings without allowing a home run before the streak was snapped in his last start. He allowed five home runs in his first five starts and has surrendered just one since. He leads all NL rookies with 94 strikeouts, is tied for second with six wins and has the second-lowest ERA (2.87) among all rookie starters behind the Yankees’ Masahiro Tanaka (2.51).

Juan Lagares leads all major leaguers with a 3.3 defensive WAR this season. Lagares’ range factor (putout and assists/innings) is 2.74 which leads all NL outfielders. He has 28 defensive runs saved, second among all major leaguers to Atlanta’s Jason Heyward, who has 33.

Dilson Herrera was 3-3 with two doubles and a walk and two runs scored last night for Binghamton (AA) vs. Akron last night. Herrera, 20, is hitting .346 (74-214), with 46 runs scored, 17 doubles, nine home runs and 46 RBI in 54 games with the B-Mets.

The Mets dropped the first game of the series with the Dodgers last night despite a lead off homer from Curtis Granderson. (Really, it was some errors in the field that led to Niese allowing 5 runs). Tonight, Jacob deGrom comes back to the rotation as he squares off against Greinke.

Jacob was on a roll before landing on the DL with a 2.87 ERA over 16 starts and 2.87 ERA and 100.1 innings of work. In his last 6 starts he has a 5-0 record with an 1.55 ERA over 40.2 innings. His second start of his career was against the Dodgers where he allowed 3 ER over 6.0 innings while walking 3 and striking out 4. The Dodgers have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • Gonzalez 1-3, HR
  • Gordon 0-3
  • Kemp 1-3, 2B
  • Puig 1-3, HR
  • Crawford 0-2

Greinke is 12-8 on the season over 25 games and 157.1 innings with a 2.75 ERA. After back to back starts where he allowed 9 runs, 7 earned in 13.0 innings, he shutout the Brewers in his last start over 5.0 innings. He made on start against the Mets earlier this season where he allowed 3 runs, 1 earned over 5.0 innings of work. The Mets have the following numbers against Greinke:

  • Granderson 8-41, 2 2B, 2 3B, HR
  • Duda 1-4
  • Murphy 1-5
  • Wright 3-5, 2B
  • Lagares 0-3
  • Flores 0-2
