The New York Mets were defeated by the Texas Rangers by the score of 5-3 on Saturday night at Citi Field.

Bartolo Colon started and did little to help his trade value, allowing five earned runs on eight hits including a pair of home runs. Colon walked two and struck out three in his seven innings of work. His ERA rises to 4.04.

Josh Edgin pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, while Gonzalez Germen came in to get one out.

The Mets scored twice in the third inning with RBI hits by Curtis Granderson and Bobby Abreu, but failed to score a runner from third and less than two outs.

Travis d’Arnaud continues to look good at the plate, following up Friday night’s game-winning double with a solo home run off Colby Lewis in the fourth inning, his fifth big-fly of the season.

David Wright returned to the lineup and had a double in four at-bats to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a pinch-hit double in the ninth inning. He is 4-12 (.333) with three doubles as a pinch-hitter this year.

Juan Lagares recorded his second outfield assist of the season and the second this month when he threw out Carlos Pena at the plate in the eighth inning.

The Mets announced during the game that reliever Buddy Carlyle is on his way from Triple-A Las Vegas, but did not announce whose spot he will take. It’s been reported that Jon Niese could go on the DL with a shoulder issue.

The Mets and Rangers will play the rubber game at 1:10 PM at Citi Field on Sunday. Zack Wheeler (3-8, 4.25) starts for the Mets, and right-hander Nick Tepesch (3-3, 3.65) goes for the Rangers.
