Terry Collins told reporters that Jenrry Mejia will avoid a trip to the disabled list, but added that the young righthander will more than likely be unavailable this weekend as a precaution.

“They said it’s probably going to be a day or so before he’s going to be available,” said Collins.

Mejia underwent an MRI on Friday which revealed some swelling and stiffness in his lower back but nothing serious.

The Mets closer entered the game in a non-save situation during the 10th inning on Thursday night. However, Mejia didn’t pitch the 11th even though he came out to toss warm-up pitches. He told the team trainer he felt some pain in the back and leg.
