Montero has a 4.31 ERA for Triple-A Las Vegas this season. He’s recently battled command issues (nine walks in his last 14 IP) which is very uncharacteristic of the 23-year old Dominican right-hander.
DeGrom on the other hand has been excellent. The 25-year old righty has posted a 1.89 ERA through six starts for the same Las Vegas team.
When asked if his prized arms would begin their transition to relief while still in Vegas, Alderson stated that it’s a “first step, but not a necessary step”.
