The Mets head to Citizens Bank Park tonight to take on the Phillies at 7:05 PM for the first of five-day, five-game series. The Mets will send Zack Wheeler (1-5, 4.63 ERA) to the mound and he’ll be opposed by right-hander David Buchanan (1-0, 3.60 ERA) for the Phillies.

Wheeler struggled early in his last start, expending 68 pitches through the first three innings. However he turned things around and pitched into the seventh inning finishing with a fine line that read: 6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.

Projected Starters

Friday: RHP Rafael Montero (0-2, 4.96) vs. RHP A.J. Burnett (3-4, 3.51), 7:05 PM

Saturday: RHP Jacob deGrom (0-2, 1.83) vs. RHP Kyle Kendrick (1-5, 4.04), 3:05 PM

Sunday: LHP Jon Niese (3-3, 2.74) vs. LHP Cole Hamels (1-3, 4.43), 1:35 PM

Monday: RHP Bartolo Colon (4-5, 4.73) vs. RHP Roberto Hernandez (2-2, 3.76), 7:05 PM

Travis d’Arnaud returns to the Mets lineup tonight for the first time since suffering a concussion on May 13 when he was hit on the top of the head with a backswing from Alfonso Soriano in the Bronx. He is batting eighth.

David Wright and Daniel Murphy are both tied for second in the National League with 66 hits, behind Paul Goldschmidt who has 68. No other duo in baseball has more hits this year.

Starting Lineup

  1. Juan Lagares, CF
  2. Daniel Murphy, 2B
  3. David Wright, 3B
  4. Curtis Granderson, RF
  5. Lucas Duda, 1B
  6. Chris Young, LF
  7. Wilmer Flores, SS
  8. Travis d’Arnaud, C
  9. Zack Wheeler, RHP

The Mets start a very unique series tonight as they play their first of five games in Philly. Originally a four game set, the Mets and Phillies were rained out of a game in a two game set earlier in the year creating this 5 day series in Philly. The first of this playoff length (NLDS) series of games will have Zack Wheeler facing off against David Buchanan.

Wheeler is 1-5 on the season pitching 56.1 innings over 10 starts and a 4.63 ERA. After two straight charts of allowing 5 ER, he allowed 2 ER, three total over 6.2 against Arizona while walking 1 and striking out 7. Last year he allowed 4 ER over 11.1 innings against the Philies (3.18 ERA) who have the following numbers against Zack:

  • Rollins 2-6
  • Ruf 0-4
  • Utley 1-5
  • Mayberry 2-5, 2B
  • Ruiz 0-5
  • Brown 0-3

David Buchanan will be making his second start of his career tonight against the Mets. In his major league debut he allowed 2 earned runs and 5 hits over 5.0 innings allowing no walks and striking out 2. In the minors this year he is 5-1 over 9 games with a 3.98 ERA over 40.2 innings. Amazingly his ERA matches his career minors ERA which is over 88 innings and 502.0 innings.

Lets Go Mets!
