MMO Game Thread: Mets vs Marlins, 7:10 PM

USATSI bartolo colon

The Mets will try to even up the series when they on the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night at 7:10 PM at Marlins Park. Bartolo Colon (2-4, 5.65 ERA) takes the mound for the Mets and will be opposed by Henderson Alvarez (1-2, 3.28 ERA) for the Fish.

Colon tossed 4.2 innings and allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs against the Rockies in his last start. The veteran righthander has allowed 48 hits and 23 earned runs over his first six starts as a Met. He has never allowed more earned runs over his first six starts of a season in his 17 year career.

Juan Lagares had his career-high 13-game hitting streak snapped last night when he came in as a late defensive replacement and then popped out in his only at-bat. The streak was the longest by a Mets player in his first or second  season in the majors since David Wright had a 15-game  hitting streak in July 2005. Lagares hit .339 (19-56) during the streak.

The Mets bullpen is 5-5 with a 4.27 ERA which ranks 13th in the National League. The pen has allowed 10 earned runs in its last 12.1 innings (7.30 ERA). They now have seven blown saves in 13 save opportunities, the 28th worst save percentage in the majors.

Starting Lineup

  1. Juan Lagares – CF
  2. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  3. David Wright – 3B
  4. Curtis Granderson – RF
  5. Chris Young – LF
  6. Lucas Duda – 1B
  7. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  8. Ruben Tejada – SS
  9. Bartolo Colon – RHP

Game Preview

The Mets had a frustrating night in Miami yesterday. They went up 3-0 early but saw the 3-0 lead slip to 3-3 in the bottom of the 8th. One bad inning from the pen, which for the most part has been quite good this year, erased Niese’s night. To some degree, it was amazing in the 8th the Mets only allowed 3 runs. Sadly the Mets couldn’t keep the door open in the 9th as the Marlins walked off with the W. Colon will get the start for the Mets today as he faces off against Henderson Alvarez.

Colon struggled in his last start with his record falling to 2-4 with a 5.65 ERA over 6 starts pitching 36.2 innings with 23 earned runs. However when his last start (7 ER, 4.2 innings) and the start are removed, he has allowed only 7 ER over 28 innings, so when he was bad, he’s bad, when he’s good, he’s good. In his career he is 2-1 against the Marlins over 19.0 innings with a 4.26 ERA. The Marlins have the following numbers against Colon:

  • R Johnsons 4-14
  • Salty 4-15, 2B, HR
  • Jones 0-2
  • Mathis 0-3

Henderson Alvarez is 1-2 over 6 starts and 35.2 innings this year with a 3.28 ERA. In his last two starts he has allowed 6 ER over 12.0 innings of work including 2 ER over 6.0 innings against the Mets back on 4/25. The Mets have the following numbers against the Henderson:

  • Granderson 3-15, 2B
  • Murphy 2-12, 2B
  • E Young 2-9, 3B
  • L Duda 1-9
  • Wright 4-9, 2B
  • d’Arnaud 3-6

Lets Go Mets!

It’s ashame that a team must win in May, but this team must beat the Marlins tonight. Colon needs to have a decent start and they cannot show signs of being destroyed over the loss last night.
If they suffer another brutal loss I might have to dye my hair to cover up yet another patch of gray.

Simply unacceptable, yet another year of horrid bullpen play. Anyone with any baseball sense could see this coming – until we get our young guys up here in the pen it will be more of the same. I’m so tired the garbage that comes out of the bullpen late in games.

  • Metjorge

I started shaving my head in 2008, 2009. Now it all makes sense.

  • Charley’s Twin

“how would you like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet everyone’s favorite ballplayer, Scott Rice?”

  • Captain America

Can we bring up Thornton black and Montero to upgrade the pen like now?

  • JOHNNY P

Does anyone else get reminded of Livan Hernandez when they see Colon out there? I remember with Livan he would go 2 or 3 starts and look amazing especially against younger teams that were over aggressive at the plate, but watch out for that 4th start because he was probably going to give up 6 runs in 3 innings of work. Just wondering if anyone else had the same thoughts?

  • SouthlandMetsFan

The Mets would be in first place right now if not for Terry Collins. I am convinced that he is the worst manager in baseball.

i still don’t think this is a playoff team, but they can stay in contention for most of the year and can win 85 games if Collins is replaced soon. It won’t happen, but it needs to because they are this close to spiraling out of control with this goof at the helm.

  • SouthlandMetsFan

No, absolutely not! Gotta keep running Dice K, Farnsworth out there every day! And hope Valverde turns things around.

Hydra would run this team better than TC at this point.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

How were they able to reach four games over .500 for the first time in two years?

  • TPT

not until 2018 SA likes to take his time and think things out

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

But…but…Collins loves EY! Lagares won’t play! He won’t leadoff because Collins loves EY.

  • JOHNNY P

It always irritates me when we lose a game late. We definitely should be in first place at this point with the good starting pitching we have had. It is at least a 4 game swing in the standings at this point if not more.

  • SouthlandMetsFan

Because despite what a lot of Mets fans think, they do have a talented bunch of players.

But they’re going to be handicapped with TC bumbling games and lineups left and right. The 29 other managers in the majors right now DO NOT lose the last two games the Mets have lost.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Ah, gotcha. Mets winning? Not thanks to Collins. Mets losing? Collins.

  • Taskmaster4450

You want Montero in a BP that is managed by Collins?

Do you want to see his career destroyed?

  • Em

I’m not a collins fan but it’s our bullpen and lack of offense that are costing us games, our shortstop is a sure out.

  • Anthony

Not feeling it tonight, I hate giving games away.

  • Taskmaster4450

Big start for Colon. As I said I wasnt a fan of this signing and it is time to prove me wrong. The LAA start can be overlooked because everyone can have a bad game. And Colorado is a clown atmosphere so we can overlook that. But now it is down to the nitty gritty. The Marlins have a strong lineup and are tough at home. They are a division foe who the Mets will see a lot more throughout the season. If Colon cannot beat teams in the east, then his value is not that great.

  • Agee’s Catch

How did we go from 15-11 to 16-15? This from a team that plays well on the road. I’m a bit perplexed. Not sure how to fix it. Daisuke is not a solution in the pen. He takes too long to warm up. Looking forward to deGrom, Montero, Black & Walters in the short term.

  • Charley’s Twin

Carlos Torres “upper lat issue” with the mandatory assertion that it’s nothing serious. Great.

Eh. I stopped watching SNL when Will Ferrell left. haha

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    COLLINS DID IT!

  • Anthony

    They appear paralyzed by indecision

  • Mets4ever

DeGrom Montero Black yes. Pass on Walters. He has been horrible in AAA

  • muskytoes

Just a fluke in scheduling that the Mets have hit Miami and Colorado when they’re currently the two hottest home teams in the majors.

  • metsfan79

The mets are what they are mediocre to poor club. Enjoy the wins wjen we get them. Can’t be upset look at the manager bullpen ss our catcher is batting 200 our clean up hitter is under 200 can’t expect much. I enjoy lagares gee neise to my surprise c.young hopefully soon a few more kids come up something elsr to watch. LGM

  • As the average age in our bullpen is 44.37, and the bullpen ERA will soon approach that age, it is probably time to make some changes and bring both numbers down.

  • Mets4ever

This is the time Alderson must act and act fast to help the big club. Nationals are hurt Braves can’t get out of their own way Philly Sucks And Marlins can’t win on the road. Time to make a trade for a real SS. Bring up Black and DeGrom for the pen Montero to start and move Mejia to pen. We are in this thing. We have a chance but this waiting game and lack of focus from the FO is gonna cost us if we don’t make the necessary moves soon

  • billpulsipher

Francesa “anyone who thinks retreads like Dice K and Farnsworth will be successful pitching the 8th and 9th innings are insane”

  • CJM

I’m glad TC realizes that Lagares needs to be starting and EYJ is best suited on the bench. That being said, realizing Lagares needs to be starting is like realizing the sky is blue.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

How many games has Lagares not started in favor of EY?

  • MyasDaddy

Can we consider you a troll? Or a FO and TC apologist?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Good answer.

  • CJM

What does that have to do with what I wrote?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Well, your statement implies Lagares’ playing time was ever in jeopardy because of EY, so I assumed there have been games when Lagares sat for EY.

  • CJM

It doesn’t imply that at all, actually.

  • SouthlandMetsFan

Like another poster mentioned, there are at least four losses this year that are totally on Terry Collins.

I appreciate that the players like him and they play hard for him, but he really does not know how to manage a bullpen.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments
  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Okay. Just thought I’d ask. My mistake.

Lagares has always played every day, for the record.

  • Bobby O

Oh, that’s just great with Carlos who is probably our best reliever right now. Just what the doctor ordered.

  • Charley’s Twin

Don’t worry, Ray Ramirez will have him rub some dirt on it. He’ll last until at least Mother’s Day

  • Anthony

Terry has been using him like a rented mule

  • TPT

    maybe he’ll call Jessie Orozco

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Perhaps. Not everyone lays losses squarely on managers in every case.

  • CJM

How long has Terry Collins been a member of Mensa?

  • Lagares has definitely proven he deserves to be in the lineup. He didn’t come into the season with that as a mandate, however. Luckily CY’s injury gave him the opportunity to prove himself on a daily basis. Hopefully he doesn’t regress with the bat now

  • Waz0787

His arm will fall off after this season.

  • Russ

Actually it does imply that. You wrote realizes as if he is currently finding this out as opposed to “realized” as in past tense. I am not trying to be grammar police, but that is the way your comment reads. Either way, Legares is raking and I am glad that TC figured who really is the 4th outfielder.

  • CJM

Realizes as in knows as in he knows Lagares should be starting. If I wrote something like, “I’m glad TC finally realizes Lagares should be starting every day,” that would imply that I believe Lagares’ playing time is not guaranteed. Fact is, understanding Lagares’ role with the team is one of the few good things TC has done.

  • Chuck

We would have found out had CY not been injured at the start of the season …

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Or we would have seen what we’re seeing now.

  • As would have been appropriate. EY put up better offensive numbers than JL did last season with far more steals. Plus he did so a good bit more consistently than JL did who had a very hot July and a very pedestrian not-July. It was right to see who deserved the playing time. Fortunately for JL (and us) CY’s quad gave them both the opportunity to start and Juan has proven he deserves to be in the starting 3 at least for now and hopefully the rest of the season

  • Andrew Herbst

We need Colon to give us some length.

  • SouthlandMetsFan

Colon needs to pitch a complete game, otherwise the game is in jeopardy with TC the Destroyer of Bullpens in charge.

  • $14435385

There’s a “width” joke begging to be made here, but I’ll abide by the embargo…

  • Even if you stretch it out it’s only about 5 ft long

  • Russ

I would be happy with a quality start.

  • SouthlandMetsFan

I would be happy with that too. But only if the Mets have a 9 run lead. Other than that, all bets are off.

  • BCleveland3381

Maybe that ends up being true, but Farnsworth gave us a chance yesterday and has been ok this season. Not great, but he hasn’t been a liability.

  • mad met

I don’t know but we lost three games in a roe to Rockies where ey did not start. I’m a huge Juan fan but I can’t understand why every bashes on ey he has benn productive scoring runs and playing nice d. Grandy is our big outfield problem

  • Rocky Thompson

Is this the same Francesa who said the Mets signing Drew was a done deal?

  • CJM

They wouldn’t be able to afford anyone if Stewart were owner.

  • mad met

I hate seeing grandersons name in that four spot he is such a six or seven hitter .. We really need a legitimate cleanup hitter and u duda people just stop . if I see another called third strike looking from this statue .

  • No way dude. The All-Comic Mets Ownership group?? With Seinfeld and Chris Rock?? Oh and Stuart Sternberg as majority owner and Andrew Friedman as head of everything baseball. Done and done.

  • MyasDaddy

If the bullpen was ever fixed from 2006 until May 6, 2014. I will always wonder what could’ve been.

  • Shaun

If only Duaner Sanchez didn’t get in that taxi…

  • MyasDaddy

I should have started with the taxi cab from hell.

  • Russ

Its comments like this that I do not understand. Sure for the yankees, Granderson would be a 6 or 7 hole hitter. Obviously on this light hitting team he is the closest to a cleanup hitter. 2011-2012 he had 85 HR and 225 rbis. I think looking at the current lineup, he would be considered a cleanup hitter. If he only hits 25 HR and 90 rbis, he would be close to the team leader in both categories. Like you said, if not duda or granderson, then who is left. No AAA players, be realistic.

  • TPT

SO???? what happens if Colon gets rocked again? does his 20 million dollar contract automatically put him out there every 5th day? hmmmmm this could really suck if he doesnt find his groove….

  • mad met

Well for one granderson never should have been signed here but we are stuck with him now. Put cy in the four until he gets traded at the break and tda in the five .sink or swim we need to see what he has .this is about next year . We are going no where this year

  • Russ

I would imagine he would continue to go out there until his ERA is closer to 6 than 5 and he is going into his 20+ start. If he is eating innings, he will stay in, if he consistently cant get through the 5th inning he might be relegated to 5th starter, making starts only when schedule requires

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Do you have any idea what Granderson has done this last week?

  • Xavier 22

That was back in the late 80s/early 90s when the Yankees sucked. Crystal jumped on the Mets bandwagon then.

  • NewYorkMammoths

  • Joanie Yan

Did anyone see the Mets tweet announcing Zach Wheeler was starting tonight?

  • Russ

I saw that, but then saw lineup here and mlb.com.

  • Russ

Why are we waiting until next year. Granderson is here for four years barring any trades, so play him. CY is next best with pop. Leave either of those in cleanup and the other in the 5th hole. TDA is sinking in the 7-8 spots. His job is to handle pitching staff, then hit. His bat will come around but why put extra pressure on him, he barely has 200 ABs in the big leagues and 12 RBIs. We are 32 games into the season wait until we are under .500 to say we are going no where.

  • Not4

Crystal was always a Yankees fan. Grew up one with his Dad leading the way. Much written about over the years. Ignore movie props

  • muskytoes

With that salary, they’re going to keep rolling Colon out there until his ERA and body explode like Mr Creosote. Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that point.

  • Not4

While EY has certainly scored a bunch of runs and has walked at a good clip, his overall offense production has been just putrid!!! .214/.316/.265/.581. What’s worse than his production is how he looks at the plate. Other than a Baltimore chop, or a bunt, he looks like there is no chance of him getting on base.

If you are suggesting that the results in Colorado would have been different with EY in the lineup, you truly are “mad”! His defense has been okay, but certainly not as good as any of the three other OFers. Not by a long stretch.

  • Not4

While your recounting of last year’s production is mostly accurate, and the job certainly should not have been handed to Lagares, he should have been the odds on favorite all along. EY was a proven commodity (not a starting OFer). Lagares should promise and plays other-worldly defense.

  • Bail4Nails

This might look a bit odd, but considering the guys we have now, what about trying:
    Lagares
    D’Arnaud
    Murphy
    Wright
    Grandy
    CY
    Duda
    Easy Out SS

THAT’s why replacing Tejada/Q would be huge for this Lineup. Duda is patient enough at the plate to be put in the 7 Hole. But you need a good Contact Hitter at 8 to protect him and clear the Pitcher. A better Shortstop can change the whole complexion of this Lineup, IMO.

  • coyote521

He was playing a character who was a Mets fan in a movie written by Mets fans.

Walter Matthau wore a Met hat as Oscar Madison.
He wasn’t a Mets fan either.

  • Not4

Only until the next time he inexplicably puts EY in the leadoff spot. But that was a rhetorical question, wasn’t it?

Nice throw by Granderson, however he waited for Murphy to miss the ball on his dive before baking him up. Granderson should have come in to back up on that the second it was hit to that side of the infield. No Excuse.

  • metsfan130

In June.. The Mets should move Mejia to the bullpen. Call up Thor and Montero and put Montero in the pen as well. I think this makes the team a lot stronger. Oh and get a SS.

  • Kid8

I hit a wiffle ball yesterday that would have been out at Coors.

  • CJM

Well he has had two terrible starts and 4 good starts. We’ll see where he is in July.

  • Taskmaster4450

Two young arms in Collins BP….you dont see a problem with that?

  • metsfan130

Well since there’s two maybe he won’t overuse either of them haha.

  • George_Theodore

Keith reminiscing about coke & hookers in South Beach..

  • Taskmaster4450

    Its early Joe but…

    CY signing looking pretty good….

    Colon signing not so good….

  • Taskmaster4450

If they are successful, you can bet that he will.

  • HarveyKsYou

    Offense looks good.

  • Taskmaster4450

So he is telling you what he did after the game last night?

  • George_Theodore

    lol

  • bspo1

they probably figure, why give the team a lead when the bullpen will just blow it in the 7th.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Damn, can’t believe I’m missing that!

  • Bobby O

I don’t understand how Colon had such a solid year for the A’s last season averaging just 89.9 with his 4 seamer last season acc. to an article on him by Gammons in Dec. because he really has nothing in terms of secondary pitches.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Or in late May

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Location, location, location

  • Brian Regan

The offense looks dead today. Last night zapped the life out of this team. Thanks Terry, way to be dedicated to your veteran projects rather then making the right moves to actually win the game

  • George_Theodore

yeah, hope this isn’t the beginning of a big slide

  • jaypayton

    PEDs

  • Taskmaster4450

How many runs does Colon need to give up before Collins even considers getting someone up in the BP?

  • Andrew Herbst

    Colon’s getting hit.

  • jaypayton

Colon might even be worse than Marcum as far as sandy FA signings go….Alderson really is an idiot lol

  • Joanie Yan

The effect of PEDs can be felt a year after use (see Marlon Byrd).

  • MetsfanInParadise

2 walkoffs in 3 games has gotta be a little tough to swallow. I’m wondering if some of the veterans are starting to wonder about Terry

  • MetsfanInParadise

    yes

  • Colon and Abreu could pass themselves off as brothers.

  • MyasDaddy

Don’t matter. They wont make a change anyway.

  • QueensRussell

Oh, boy, how ’bout some quality ABs?!

  • QueensRussell

On top of everything I have to suffer these absolutely miserable marlins announcers again!

  • Jeff

Byrd is hitting .296 with 4 HR’s and 7 doubles and is making half what Granderson got and half the length of the contract. Oh AND Byrd wanted to come back too.

  • Kid8

Maybe we can try sending Bobby up there to hit for Colon all game and see if anyone notices.

  • QueensRussell

    Ooooooooooo, TDA swings a bat.

  • Captain America

Who said I want Collins? Lol

  • Taskmaster4450

Yeah I have to watch them also…I dont mind Tommy Hutton he knows his stuff…the other guy is a horses a**.

  • Andrew Herbst

Nice hit TDA. We’ll take it.

  • QueensRussell

Still, Hutton is as boring as Kissenger!

  • omar minayass

    there goes that

  • QueensRussell

    Tejada true to form!

  • bspo1

we sure have a good SS

  • omar minayass

ladies & gentlemen your starting shortstop

  • QueensRussell

Tejada makes Buddy Harrelson look like a slugger.

  • Andrew Herbst

    Yep. Tejada kills another rally.

  • Jeff

You’re not kidding. I said to myself why are they showing Colon talking to Mejia while Colon is pitching, this must have been during the top of the last inning, no joke! lol

  • Taskmaster4450

    The Tejada Clock is ticking.

Flores is starting to hit in AAA.

A week or two and he will be on the bench.

  • Captain America

Step brothers is a great movie

  • RyanF55

I hate tejada at this point. Just pure hatred 🙂

  • Andrew Herbst

How long longer will we have to put up with Tejada?

  • Anthony

    Haha yeah right

  • QueensRussell

    He should bunt every time

  • bspo1

I’m growing tired of Colons terrible at-bats, no longer funny.

  • omar minayass

    55 & counting

  • BronxMets

Thats where the captain is supposed to come in….oh never mind…

  • RyanF55

Why do you have to listen to them?

  • omar minayass

they would be much funnier if another pitcher could get a hit, preferably by memorial day

  • Jeff

based on what. Sandy said Montero and DeGrom would be up soon too and we all know how that comment has translated in actual reality

  • Captain America

Who will be the first met pitcher to get a hit in 2014?

  • bspo1

Dave Hudgens will save the day.

  • Brian Regan

Tejada has no right starting in the big leagues. Its amazing we our record id as good as it is

  • MetsfanInParadise

Old school-nice. It’s Willie Mays’ birthday.

  • RyanF55

Hahah maybe stuff a pillow in Abreus shirt and were in business

  • ArchieBellandTheDrells

Colons apathy at bat represents the apathy this teams manager and ownership feels towards winning

  • Kid8

The best part of the Marlins’ broadcast are the very awkward team commercials. One of them has Hutton stating that he never caught a fungo back in the day; to which his cohort tells him there was a cream for that back then.

  • That’s entertainment…

  • RyanF55

    11

  • Kid8

We can finally get a hit from the 9-hole. Win-win.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Anthony Recker, mopping up

  • Manuel1991

I dont even watch tejadas at bats anymore he just pisses me off

  • CJM

    Wheeler.

  • Kid8

I wonder if checking the batter’s identity is a reviewable play?

  • Taskmaster4450

When did he say that…please show a link.

Flores is playing SS everyday in AAA, Montero and Degrom are starting and as of this moment, there isnt a starting spot open. As for the BP, Sandy and Collins both said if they were going to do that in the big leagues they would get some work in the Vegas BP first.

  • Captain America

    8 in an inning

  • MetsfanInParadise

They are truly horrible. At least I can listen to Howie on the computer

  • Jeff

Either Tejada had beginners luck or something because he hit line drives when he first arrived, no he hits ground balls and flyballs. I don’t get it.

  • Captain America

    Are you in florida?

  • Joanie Yan

Don’t really understand the hatred of Tejada. I mean he’s bad but we knew he’d be bad. Shouldn’t the anger be directed at Granderson and Colon who were signed for big $$ to help this team and have been horrible ?

  • QueensRussell

We’re not in NY area, and I am dependent on COmcast.

  • BronxMets

The mets taught him how to hit when he got here

  • MetsfanInParadise

That was the fastest I’ve seen Colon move

  • omar minayass

beginners luck? let’s not forget this dude tried swinging for the fences all of spring training last year.

and the guy has no power whatsoever, so what’s to stop a pitcher from challenging him? at least a speedy guy can steal when he gets on base & counter the lack of power. this guy is just a waste of space.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    You have low standards

  • mad met

I have as much faith in our cleanup hitter…. who will have more hits today grandy or colon

  • Destry

At this point I would like to see Tejada bunt the runner into scoring position for the pitcher. Our pitchers are 0-50something, but I feel more confident with them at the plate than I do Tejada.

  • George_Theodore

put Dice-K in AAA rotation, put DeGrom in BP in AAA, call up Black

  • You haven’t seen him at a buffet have you? Ducks…

  • mad met

    Neise

  • Taskmaster4450

Tejada really isnt the problem. Light hitting SS are not uncommon in baseball. If Grandy and others were hitting, then Tejada wouldnt even be noticed.

  • BronxMets

    You’ve lost it

  • mad met

No worse than our cleanup hitter

  • omar minayass

i heard he was the catalyst for the red lobster liquidation

  • BronxMets

    Montero

  • QueensRussell

    Finally a DP

  • Andrew Herbst

    Nice DP.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    that’s what she said

  • HarveyKsYou

David Wells and CC were bigger than him (at this point in colons career he’s not as fat as he has been).

  • Captain America

They had Rey-O teach him to hit

  • MyasDaddy

My kid is snoring… its time for some self medication.

  • Anthony

    Keep it clean

  • MetsfanInParadise

Black has walked 10 in 11 innings

  • mad met

    Granderson 4 years 800 k’s

  • George_Theodore

    i don’t care 🙂

  • MetsfanInParadise

Weren’t we on the opposite sides of that exchange last night?

  • MetsfanInParadise

In case you missed it, happy birthday Willie Mays

  • George_Theodore

    J-Dub!

  • CJM

    Guy is the best.

  • bspo1

    love that dude

  • Martin

you guys did a DP last night but now are on opposite sides?

  • Andrew Herbst

Love how Lagares goes the other way.

  • LIMetfan22

    Please go yard again Murph

  • QueensRussell

    C’mon Murph!

  • BronxMets

greatest player to ever walk the earth

  • RyanF55

    Lagares is unreal this year

  • Manuel1991

    My boy laggy right there

  • bspo1

    free RBI here.

  • QueensRussell

    At least runner advances

  • Brian Regan

please pull the ball murph, chip away. I love his bat, but he is terrible at moveing the runner from 2nd

  • Jeff

I know I saw it a few weeks ago, can’t remember where. And as far as pitching out of the bullpen in AAA 1st, he said the other day that although that is a first step its not necessarily one that has to happen in order for them to come up to NY and be in the bullpen

  • CJM

    Barry Bonds?

  • Taskmaster4450

    Good AB by Murphy there.

  • Metsfan27

    Such a true statement

  • QueensRussell

    Get JLAG in, David!

  • Brian Regan

    Nicely done

  • George_Theodore

    Say Hey!

  • Anthony

    I saw the light

  • CJM

Making outs should never be considered good.

  • HarveyKsYou

Wright, hit a damn home run.

  • Captain America

    Dice k

  • Jeff

Gotta love to see Lagares continue to show why he belongs out there every night

  • MetsfanInParadise

    I just can’t pass up a one-liner

  • Taskmaster4450

I guess situational hitting eludes you.

  • QueensRussell

    Stel home!

  • Jeff

    Bingo

  • Taskmaster4450

    Absolutely.

Where are all those who proclaimed Lagares couldnt hit.

  • CJM

Not really. He still made an out. He didn’t do the worst thing possible, I think is what you meant when you called the AB good.

  • Anthony

    Wtf

  • HarveyKsYou

    Cursed.

  • bspo1

    Only the Mets!

  • Jgreen

    that was unfortunate

  • QueensRussell

Why no coaching him to tage the F Up!!!

  • Andrew Herbst

    Typical.

  • CJM

Is Lagares taking base running lessons from Murph? WTF.

  • HarveyKsYou

    That’s Terry’s fault.

  • Metsaholic

Is Keith drunk? Lagares did tag up.

  • Metsaholic

The replay showed he did tag up.

  • George_Theodore

    he did nothing wrong there

  • QueensRussell

    Grandy come through, man

  • QueensRussell

    SHITTTTTT

  • Manuel1991

    Fck!

  • metsfan130

    Wow just unlucky there…

  • HarveyKsYou

    Just cursed.

  • Just_Da_damaja

    🙂

    …and is only a 2 year commitment…

which would’ve been PERFECT for us…

    LOL @ THE PLAN

  • Jgreen

    bullshiit

  • Anthony

    Typical futility

  • RyanF55

    So incredibly frustrating….

  • Wow, Marlins have made some sick defensive outfield grabs the last two nights.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Hit it hard, but Stanton got a good jump on it

  • Andrew Herbst

Another wasted opportunity with a runner of 3rd and less than 2 out.

  • bspo1

that’s why we are destine for last place

  • LIMetfan22

It’s unreal how unlucky this team is and how often they shoot themselves in the foot (i.e., yesterday). Honestly can’t take it anymore

  • Jeff

The absolute biggest thing I notice about Lagares is his tremendous improvement from a pitch recognition stand point

  • 3doza33

    Bummer…

  • Brian Regan

Yup, winning teams figure out a way to score that run. We don’t

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

  • HarveyKsYou

That will probably be our best chance of the night to score.

  • PessiMets

Last nights game might have a long term effect on this team, I haven’t seemed to be able to get over it. Hopefully we r not looking back on the season and pointing to that game and saying that’s when the tide turned

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

He needs to be taught that?

  • The future is bright…

  • Manuel1991

    Any Jets fans here?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Oh. You’re not over it? Well then yeah, our season is probably done.

  • Jeff

Runner on 3rd less than 2 outs, having trouble scoring runs…Ive said for a while now that I wish Terry would consider using the squeeze every now and then. Can’t remember the last time I saw him try a squeeze

  • RyanF55

    The present is dark

  • HarveyKsYou

Yeah, if we had any position player prospects and some relivers.

  • Mets4ever

I knew as soon as Gary mentioned David has been good with getting runners in less than 2 outs that we were doomed

  • RyanF55

    I am

  • Just_Da_damaja

proof this front office is a sham.

his baseball card says #4 hitter.

anyone who actually saw him play knows different.

  • MetsfanInParadise

The radio side has started a Twitter poll-should Mays’ 24 be retired?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    No

  • Manuel1991

With the 18th pick Jets select..?

  • mr. belvedere

just turned the game on…says Wright lined out to CF with Lagares on 3rd with one out…why didn’t he score?

  • MetsfanInParadise

I agree-so do most of the voters. I don’t tweet

  • Jeff

This whole no position players in the minors is so absurd. Ya 3 years ago, sure. We just refuse to actually give any of them a chance at the moment like Campbell or Flores. In addition a lot of the guys who were in A ball a while back are now in AA or will be at some point this season.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    jeez

  • Jeff

Ozuna playing shallow made a nice catch

  • HarveyKsYou

    CURSED.

  • George_Theodore

    Murph pulls a buckner

  • bspo1

    little league, little league.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Didn’t tag. Too shallow.

  • George_Theodore

    it was a shallow liner

  • Ryan5757

    with David Wright???

  • Charley’s Twin

    staggering incompetence

  • 3doza33

I can’t wait till the day we have all of our everyday players playing their natural positions.

  • Anthony

Murph has more than four errors

  • Jeff

Gotta think Lagares has a chance at being an All Star this year

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Probably won’t get the votes.

  • Taskmaster4450

    I agree.

  • HarveyKsYou

This is the mets.. No one likes us so I doubt. They snubbed Maine in 2007.

  • Jeff

Still not sure how he didnt get nominated for a GG last season and EY did

  • inb4belair

The good news is that Collins may not even have a chance to blow tonight’s game. We’ll lose it outright.

  • Jeff

Nothing against EY but Lagares was incredible

  • Charley’s Twin

John Maine got snubbed for an All-Star berth? Are you serious?

  • No doubt.

  • How many teams even have that?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Lol. Who started for the NL last year? I missed it

  • Anthony

    Lookin good

  • And don’t forget the year they snubbed Ron Hodges.

  • Jeff

An outfield of Lagares and DenDekker in it has a chance to be one the best defensively even with Abreu playing RF and not moving from his position

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

I love Duda’s ability to hit singles. Really impressive he can generate that kind of power.

  • CJM

He was 12-5 with a 2.71 ERA at the ASB in ’07. Had an awesome first half that year. I remember thinking he was snubbed as well.

  • LIMetfan22

This team has no balls. Can’t watch anymore

  • PessiMets

    Geez

  • bspo1

maybe they will snap out of it when we are 10 games under .500?

  • Andrew Herbst

    These DPs are so frustrating.

  • Anthony

    That’s not what she said

  • Jeff

Not giving up on D’Arnaud at all, he needs to continue to play, but while he is learning Recker needs to be playing more. Watching how much Recker has improved behind the plate, both throwing an footwork really show how much work he put in during the off season

  • Tlagee

What a surprise – the .200 hitting shortstop hits into a double play, followed by the .200 hitting catcher with another double play. This is on Sandy.

  • Just_Da_damaja

meanwhile in Toronto…Josh Thole is batting .400…

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    That’s what she said

  • Mex_17

Wilpon blames the fans for not selling out CitiField last week.

  • billpulsipher

mets and phillies battling it out for last place…you will hear A LOT of that this year

  • Andrew Herbst

    Lol.

  • Andrew Herbst

    You’re right.

  • muskytoes

We truly are in an abusive relationship as fans of this team.

  • I think it’s impressive that someone as old as Bobby Abreu still has the enthusiasm of a rookie. He’s watching the game like it’s his first time on the field. Plus bonus points for blowing Burkhardt off.

  • billpulsipher

wait til next week when yankee fans invade citi

  • Mex_17

Not once the Phillies move out of last place.

  • Andrew Herbst

I’m looking forward to seeing Degrom come up.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Odds on Stanton going deep?

  • Jeff

Have to think he is a tremendous asset in the clubhouse/dugout for guys to learn from. Tremendous career he has had.

  • Mets4ever

Super 2. Only thing holding Degrom Montero back

  • You can keep Thole, I’d rather have Syndergaard.

  • Same old Mets

Sadly, the Marlins are just a better team than the Mets. They have a young exciting team with a manager that’s not to far removed from playing himself. The Mets organization has no clue what their doing. They talk about all these prospects and you never see any. Alderson made 2 trades that might work out. Dnaud is hitting 200, Wheeler hasn’t done anything yet and Syndergaard hasn’t thrown a major league pitch. Other than that, he’s done nothing. Well Sandy 2015 is coming soon I can’t wait for the plan to kick in.

  • bspo1

    say goodbye to .500 folks.

  • $14435385

I wonder if they make those “We’re #1” foam hands with a different finger for home games…then we can respond to the Wilpons en masse.

  • Charley’s Twin

it’s going to be a long, hot summer

  • Super T

Mets looking like they’re still hung over from last night’s debacle.

  • bspo1

I wonder if I can get a refund for the last 7 year on mlb.tv

  • HarveyKsYou

Game over. Unbelievable how we’re becoming irreverent this fast.

  • Mex_17

We actually lasted way longer this year than usual. We’re almost to mid-May.

Although we typically have a 3-4 week stretch where we lose every game.

  • Captain America

That guy who hit .175 in 2013?

  • Brian D.

Drew isn’t awful. He’s a quality player at his position, and he would be a major upgrade over Tejada.

  • billpulsipher

    Marlins rotation is better, their
offense is better and so is their bullpen and GM…only thing the mets
have in common with then is horrible owners

  • Super T

    +1000.

  • Captain America

Does Lagares have any assists in 2014?

  • Just_Da_damaja

I’d rather trade Dickey for a true SS that can hit..

That is unless we flip Thor for a true SS that can hit..

  • The woman at the end of that Caesar commercial freaks me out.

  • Mets4ever

Yankees suck. Other than Tanaka they have no pitching. Their players are old and they look it. Kuroda will get bombed tonight and we will still have the same record

  • Just_Da_damaja

as opposed to the catcher we have who hits like tejada on a bad day?

  • MetsfanInParadise

What really pisses me off is how quickly other teams seem to be able to complete the cycle of sucking and rebuilding compared to us. If we’re not careful we’ll be looking up at the Astros

  • muskytoes

It’s not massive runs like sudden Mejia diarrhea, but the drip drip drip of this Colon leakage is just as insurmountable, especially with this deadwood offense.

  • bspo1

Tejada and Colon would be more productive if they just stood there.

  • Andrew Herbst

The Marlins are much better than us. They have rebuilt their farm system.

  • CJM

At least the Heat are taking care of business.

  • Brian D.

Yeah. A lot of people forget that he had a very promising start to his career, but it quickly fell apart.

  • billpulsipher

they have a good GM. Alderson is a moron..watch Colon tonight for further proof

  • Mets4ever

    We win. Ours is worse

  • MyasDaddy

    Boooooooooooooo!

  • billpulsipher

    Colon=Marcum

  • MikePiazza3186

I disagree mets will finish better then the fish

  • Brian D.

    Marcum was better.

  • Bobby O

And Marlins payroll this season is just 45.8MM acc. to Cot’s Contracts.

  • GB

ENOUGH of F’ING. tejada. ENOUGH. Leave the position open. Maybe a pitcher will walk an empty batter once in a while and we will get someone on base 1 time our of 25

  • muskytoes

He’s Neiman Marcum, the more expensive luxury brand.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Yes! I finally beat this hard level on Candy Crush! What’s happening with the game?

  • Alwayzamazin

    ok tejada must go

  • Andrew Herbst

I hope you’re right. I think Marlins will finish ahead of us.

  • PessiMets

    Come on david

  • I got an email the other day asking me if I would rather have the current young rotation of the Marlins or the future rotation of the Mets.

  • Alwayzamazin

    this year?

  • Andrew Herbst

That’s interesting. Both teams have very bright futures with their rotations.

  • bspo1

    well done.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    What did you say?

  • PessiMets

    Last 11 innings no runs

  • MikePiazza3186

    Wright sucks this year

  • 3doza33

    Haaaaaa!!! Thanks captain!

  • GB

How long do we keep giving captain 138 million and not a clutch hitter a pas? He is a nice guy…blah, blah, blah. Gio Gonzalez and wright have the same number of home runs by the way

  • Told him it was a tough call. Good arguments for both sides.

  • Wolfmicky21

Only 6 years left on the contract, right?

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

    SMH @ frontrunners….

  • Alwayzamazin

    his paycheck doesn’t suck

  • bspo1

this team became unwatchable so quickly. I can’t wait to receive another email from the Wilpons.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Role reversal tonite. except we can’t walk off

  • Wolfmicky21

Not concerned with HR really – I’ll take 100+ RBIs tho…

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Yeah! Wright sucks! He’s the worst! Boo! Let’s release him.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

    A backup hitting .400?

  • Mets4ever

Except their mgr won’t be so dumb to leave a pitcher who just doesn’t have it out there to get beat

  • GB

    He has like 15….

  • CJM

Been an LBJ fan since he was drafted by the Cavs. Not sure how that’s being a frontrunner.

  • So what’s your game plan at third?

  • GB

He does suck…when was the last time he got a clutch hit? 2007 or 2008.

  • Same old Mets

Tejada is useless but I think Sandy said in spring training that he’s comfortable with him. You’re a great evaluator Alderson. So the slide begins early this year. Can Wright get a clutch hit every now and again, holy cow.

  • GB

According to Sandy. We can move Tejada to third, Omar at SS, trade Wright and ea 136 million and get another horrible reliever from Pittsburgh. Sound good?

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

So in other words, you’re not even a Heat fan?

  • bspo1

    he’s on pace for 86…

  • prosoundz

Jeffrey Loria and those scouts and front office are geniuses. Almost a full rebuild in a years time! All young studs inexpensive. And when they get expensive they will trade them for more studs who are inexpensive.

  • MLBGM Fire TC

Or a player to be named later

  • BronxMets

fans don’t have game plans they just complain and blurt out senseless garbage. Look at all the idiots that don’t think you should give lagares a day off. Look at everyone complain about TC using Dice K as if Hunter, Smith, and Mariano are sitting out in the BP.

  • GB

    From th 2022 draft

  • BronxMets

    no sounds stupid

  • muskytoes

I see Tovar’s up to .350 now in Binghamton.

  • Anthony

    Pathetic offense

  • BronxMets

Binghamton is a million miles from citifield.

  • Don’t think so. Everyone is afraid to run on him.

  • Captain America

    How is Centeno doing?

  • prosoundz

Flores would’ve knocked both runs in.

  • Just_Da_damaja

Murph at 3B, Flores at 2B.

David Wright traded for a package that we flip for Carlos Correa or Francisco Lindor…

  • Super T

Look at all the fans constantly complaining about Murph.

  • bspo1

Tejada can hit .050 and he’ll still be here.

  • Metsfan27

Not a huge fan of Tovar, but he’s gotta be better than Tejada right? RIGHT?

  • corny12491

What a thrilling game we get to watch tonight. Truly invigorating

  • Captain America

    Flip Montero for ss

  • MyasDaddy

    Currently… CM>DW

  • GB

That’s great….paid like. Superstar on pace for 86.

  • “We believe in comebacks.“ – Jeff Francouer

  • prosoundz

Mcgehee is better than any of our players except Lagares and Wright. Lol

  • Andrew Herbst

Yep. Agreed. They know how to get young pitching and trade them at the right time.

  • Captain America

    Like your image

  • MyasDaddy

    1-2-3 its as easy that.

  • bspo1

A lot of fight in this team. Terry is getting manager of the year.

  • Helloboy

it is clear that the Marlins are probably ahead of the Mets, because unlike our idiotic front office, they actually have more power and better infield defense where they need it.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

He sucks! Hasn’t done anything good in years! I hate him! Booooo!

  • prosoundz

Told ya the Marlins got some young talented hungry players.

  • Captain America

    190

  • Good thing we didn’t have to face anyone good like Jose Fernandez in this series.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Don’t worry. They’ll trade all these guys soon enough.

  • Mets4ever

At least it’s a quick game. Tired of the gut churning 3 hr games that our BP eventually blows

  • PessiMets

I still don’t see what the mets see in Duda

  • BronxMets

yeh they are a well run organization………

  • CJM

I root for players in the NBA. It’s a players’ league. Is there some rule that says I need to be a fan of a particular team?

  • MyasDaddy

The lineup needs to change. Time to put Murphy in RBI situations and hit him 5th. Move Granderson to the 2-hole, and Duda straight to cleanup.

  • iwamofo

    took the easy way out.

  • Anthony

We are not smart enough to see it

  • metsfan79

    Lol

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Hahahaha.

    Wait. Let me read again.

    Hahahaha.

  • muskytoes

    He’s making $500K

  • PessiMets

I think last nights loss took the wind out of this team

  • Metsfan27

Duda isn’t an immediate problem. Tejada and the bullpen are this team’s two major weaknesses.

  • PessiMets

    That’s it alright

  • Alwayzamazin

at least we don’t have to wait for the all star break

  • metsfan79

    6 in wright
    3 on granderson
    1 on fatolo
    15 on Bobby Bonilla
    1 in collins
Forever and ever in the wilpons

  • Same old Mets

Mets have no fire or passion. Fire Collins now and he can share a cab with that useless Hudgens who can go to. I’m tired of hearing about the hitting approach. How about this, see the f..king ball and if its in the strike zone hammer it.

  • PessiMets

He is one of the problems but I agree that Tejada needs to go

  • $1.64 million actually.

  • Mets4ever

How much more rope can they possibly give Tejada. He’s just not a major leaguer. DO SOMETHING

  • Waz0787

We getting swept in Miami 🙂

  • Super T

For all those of you ripping Colon, he does have yet another QS tonight, and if the offense would do something….

  • bspo1

I called it before the Colorado series.

  • prosoundz

Alderson’s signings. Colon 40 year old former p.e.d user. Granderson band box hitter whose 33. Alderson’s non signings 27 year old thumper in Jose Abreu. Joe Nathan, Nelson Cruz on a 1 year deal 8 mil. It’s comical. Even if he trades Colon he is not getting even close to the player that Abreu is. Just dumb. CY was the only smart signing and even he got over paid compared to Cruz.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Well, here we are with Colon, 7 innings, 3 runs. Not too shabby when we all expected a bloodbath. Too bad we can’t score.

  • PessiMets

It’s getting to the point where it seems as if they don’t care

  • MyasDaddy

Ill take 7 IP 3 ER from my starter every day of the week. He clearly didn’t have it, but he kept us in the game.

  • Demoralizing losses can have that effect.

  • Metsfan27

This game isn’t on Colon, he gave us a quality outing. Yet again the offense, or lack thereof, is keeping us out of the game.

  • Andrew Herbst

Colon kept us in the game.

  • MetsfanInParadise

He can refocus himself, which is something Wheeler can’t do yet

  • MyasDaddy

Just a pro. A veteran and the kind of guy you need in your staff.

  • Jdog

Waz 0787 is by far the most annoying person to ever post a comment in this thread

  • knicksjp07

good start for colon. now, the offense is a completely different situation

  • Anthony

Bottom of the order has got this

  • Captain America

The stats guys predicted that would happen and some here freaked out about that…

  • Matt Mosher

I’m pretty much going to harp on Abreu all year. Although it was probably more a Wilpon call to pass on him than Sandy.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    You mean tonight?

  • Super T

    I would guess Kevin Brown

  • Jdog

    no he’s always annoying

  • prosoundz

And get more young talent and still be better than us.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    He has some competition

  • Matt Mosher

I agree. I don’t see it either, but he’s not god-awful like Tejada.

  • RyanF55

We’re at the point where we pinch hit for the SS…good god

  • metsfan79

Sweet almost warning track power tda.

  • Jdog

I think he’s got it by a long shot but you might be right

  • Captain America

    Will win tomorrow

  • Super T

I’m with you as well. Abreu and Drew.

  • prosoundz

Still it’s Sandy’s job to convince his bosses that Abreu was the way to go. If he can’t do that he doesn’t deserve to be a GM.

  • bspo1

    getting owned by the Marlins

  • Metsaholic

    He’s better than Davis.

  • Matt Mosher

Who says anyone is watching it? I’m not. And I’m sure I’m not alone.

  • prosoundz

NO to Drew! Flores will be better. Bank on it.

  • Joanie Yan

He kind of is. I mean if they’re counting on him being a cleanup hitter,he’ll never be it. His max is 15-20 HRs and 60-70 RBIs, .250 avg. But I think getting no production from Wright and Granderson is their biggest offensive problem right now.

  • Joey D.

    Hi metsfan79,

To go with a broken bat texas league single.

  • MyasDaddy

I hope you asked Terry in his office, how bad are you managing? Lets be honest.

  • Matt Mosher

    Lol….yeah right.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Colon for the 8th? Probably better than anyone in the pen

  • GB

    Great news…valverde is coming in

  • Damn

  • prosoundz

Lol who is this Alvarez kid? Looks better than Wheeler.

  • bspo1

    complete game shutout coming.

  • Alwayzamazin

    roll’m out there!

  • metsfan79

Ey doing his thing. If nothing else he is consistent

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Roll him-love that image

  • Mcgrupp81

Ha! Destroy Terry and two more will take his place.

  • muskytoes

    Good lord. Baseball-Reference says $1.637M.

  • goorru

I hate the excuses that always just fall back on the Wilpons. Sandy keeps saying he has money to spend.

  • Anthony

    500 here we come

  • Joanie Yan

Valverde is coming in. Game over.

  • Super T

Drew is a proven SS (from a WS champion) that wouldn’t have cost us anything but money. Ridiculous, when all we have is Tejeda and Q who arguably don’t even belong in the majors.

  • Alwayzamazin

    i don’t! 🙂

  • PessiMets

I want to give tda to Memorial Day and maybe a few weeks more after that to see what he’s really got but so far it doesn’t look good

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Double damn

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    Just checked the score and

Wow we’re losing to the Marlins shocking(NOT REALLY)
    Business as usual

  • corny12491

    Here’s defensive specialist Omar Quintanilla

  • Matt Mosher

Their farm ranks around #20 overall. Not sure how that’s “rebuilt”. The Mets were the only NL East team that had a farm ranked in the top 10 overall. The other 4 teams were all ranked 20 or lower.

  • mad met

    How’s grandy looking

  • MetsfanInParadise

If it wasn’t out of reach already it will be now. Way to bury all hope, Terry

  • MyasDaddy

    I missed you.

  • prosoundz

He would’ve cost us a draft pick. Something the Marlins know alot about.

  • Anthony

    Valverdes first batter is stanton

  • MikePiazza3186

This has to be the worst offensive mets team I ever witnessed good job sandy !!

  • goorru

3rd round pick, not a big deal.

  • corny12491

    well done

  • Joey D.

Here comes one of the four who were going to save our bullpen this year.

  • Super T

And I would be correct. 🙂

  • Mcgrupp81

Mets might as well be wearing the freakin’ pajamas this game. That, or toe tags.

  • Alwayzamazin

    i missed you too, leroy!

  • MetsfanInParadise

    You gotta roll with it

  • bspo1

you mean one of the FORTY year olds?

  • RyanF55

    I see…my condolences haha

  • Super T

    Thank-you, sir!

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    lol

  • Joey D.

    LOL bspo1,

That would give us 160 years of experience!

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    😉

  • Alwayzamazin

    walking is winning

  • PessiMets

    That doesn’t make him good

  • MikePiazza3186

    I can’t

  • corny12491

    Thanks!

  • MyasDaddy

A humiliating loss just isn’t the same without you.

  • George_Theodore

guess you guys weren’t around in the 70s

  • Anthony

    The duda

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Well fellow Mets fans its about that time….might as well get a head start on next year because this season was over before it began,

    http://metsmerizedonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/realistic-mets-fan.jpg?c4e8ae

  • PessiMets

    Wow

  • sperry

Totally the same as Ike in the field guys. Definitely not different at all.

  • Tommy Med

Keep Chewing your gum Duda. Two BONEHEADS goin after a pop up

  • Tomthetinker

That doesnt happen during my drunken softball league and we suck

  • Super T

3rd round draft picks don’t even normally make it to the bigs.

  • Captain America

    1968 the worst

  • $14435385

I still have the scars from that era…

  • GB

Duda SUCKS. Good call again Sandy.

  • Taskmaster4450

Murphy braindead again. That was the 2B ball all the way.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Not with Duda in the way-he’s BIG

  • George_Theodore

i think he was scared to run into dudie

  • mad met

Best comment I’ve heard from u.

  • I remember reading a post on metsblog about Valverde leading the Dominican Mafia on the Mets. My thought at the time was I’d rather he focus on saving 25 games.

  • AJ NISBETT

I’m done with this team I cnt keep giving this team my heart nd soul nd wen ever I feek like they mite jus be a contender they jus rip my heart rite out I feel like I’m in a very abusive marriage I give this team my all nd they give absoultly nothing back to me its offically time to seperate myself from this team I’m just so tired of talking about how to fix this team guess wat guess it ain’t gonna happen

  • Captain America

How is Ike doing in Pittsburgh?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

LOL….I Laugh to keep from crying

  • AJF

I love how the Wilpons are cheap on players but spending money on 3 GM’s that has nothing to show but 2 big trades

  • GB

Any professional firstbasmen catches that period.

  • muskytoes

That was like Lupus and Engelberg going after a ball.

  • Joey D.

I was wondering if Murph was just intimidated by Duda running.

  • bspo1

    just another Wilpon scam.

  • Ted Danson

Thats a cat Im pretty sure Gary.

  • George_Theodore

    it’s a cat, gary!

  • AJF

Well it was Metsblog what kind of post do you expect but fluff and garbage

  • $14435385

He’s been in a fog for about a week now…I’d blame new dad sleeplessness, but he’s been on the road…

  • Charley’s Twin

Well, no one will ever be able to accuse us of being frontrunners……so there’s that.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Stanton with 38 friggin RBI’s already….smh….we shouldve gave them Wheeler and TDA when we had the chance

  • corny12491

Is it a shortstop? Can it play shortstop?

  • CJM

Well, they did bring the team’s farm system from being one of the worst in the league to being ranked 8th by Baseball Prospectus–that is what they have to show.

  • Tomthetinker

    lol

  • Captain America

    And Thor and and and

  • Alwayzamazin

    shill

  • Tomthetinker

    and my mother and TC

  • George_Theodore

    it was pretty sad

  • Anthony

    He is a fool

  • CJM

What I just wrote is inarguable.

  • Tomthetinker

    Dont forget the wilpons too

  • Charley’s Twin

that doesn’t fit too well in the trophy case, alas

  • MyasDaddy

Whatever they want for him. I would do it in a heartbeat.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

I thought we agreed to avoid one another since you cry foul and message JoeD to ban me whenever I respond to you???

  • Kudos to SNY for all these distractions during games like this. Not really. These are troubling times in the kingdom.

  • CJM

Having a good farm system is good.

  • Alwayzamazin

    ok

  • Joey D.

Task, talking about brain dead, did Gary Cohen just said Mets coming up in the bottom of the ninth about two minutes ago?

  • jimmy705

That was a much worse team…but it was only a few years after the 1969 miracle. To be facing this 28 years after 1986–well, it’s painful.

  • AJF

Thats great Yes they have been ranked higher than past years but by the time they are here and winning will be another 4 yrs at least

  • QueensRussell

So are we coming back in the 9th?

  • CJM

Of course not. Just pointing out that they have done one thing well. To say they have nothing to show but two big trades is a little misleading, if you’re willing to suspend your biases.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Watching cat chase its tail > Watching any Mets game

  • Taskmaster4450

I dont know Joey I am stuck watching the Marlin broadcast but nothing surprises me with Cohen.

At least I was spared the pitcher non hit streak for two games.

  • That’s true captain.

  • Joey D.

    Hi Joe D.,

I’m still waiting for SNY to air a video message addressed to “all real New Yorkers”.

  • bspo1

do we get a hit in the 9th or go 1,2,3?

  • CJM

True it sucks to root for a losing team. I’m not saying this is a great scenario for the Mets or their fans, just that the front office has done something.

  • Tommy Med

Goin to Yankee Stadium on Monday with a bunch of my friends…mostly yankee fans….Was confident a few days ago but now its looking like an embarrassment waiting to happen =(

  • QueensRussell

    Here we go boys, woo-hoo!

  • Super T

I didn’t start following the Mets till 1984 & the 1993 team was probably the lowest point I recall.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    -Great job by Alderson

    -What did he do?

    -NOTHING AS USUAL

  • CJM

We’ll see. The first big Sandy pieces (Syndergaard, Montero, d’Arnaud) will all be playing in the majors this year.

  • Mcgrupp81

They didn’t show you the photo of the cat hanging on a clothesline as Jeff and Fred were nudging its paws from the clothesline with the caption “Hang in there fans”

  • Alwayzamazin

Joey D, you can find it in your email

  • Charley’s Twin

It’s just another day in Metsanastan

  • Joey D.

    Hi Task,

Didn’t realize you were not in the New York area.

  • QueensRussell

    Just a flesh wound.

  • Anthony

Alvarez making us look like sheep

  • Captain America

How’s it going Joe D? I don’t think we have connected in 2014. Hope you are feeling better.

  • prosoundz

Alvarez might be better than Harvey.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

They say losing builds CHARACTER….Thats BULLSH** Cuz whoever said that has never met the Wilpons

  • CJM

That is a terrible at-bat by Lagares. Down 3-0, pops up first pitch. These are the situations where they should be patient.

  • prosoundz

95 gas in the 9th inning?

  • Joey D.

    Hi Alwaz,

I bet the Mets will say you can buy it on blu ray for $29.95 with extra commentary.

  • QueensRussell

Oh, Murph is battling up there.

  • Tommy Med

Abreu leading MLB in Homers. My new strategy for drafting in fantasy is drafting guys the Mets chose NOT to sign because their the ones that go on to have great seasons

  • Alwayzamazin

Win or lose, have fun Tommy!

  • Charley’s Twin

    LMAO

  • George_Theodore

SIGN THE LETTER OR WE LET THIS CAT HAVE IT!

  • I never figured him for a true New Yorker. LOL

  • MyasDaddy

You know why the Marlins are better than us… Ceshek.

  • QueensRussell

What are the odds on three HRs now?

  • Guest

    last place

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Great strategy your probably running away with the league

  • Captain America

    Did he sign the petition?

  • Tommy Med

    Thanks!

  • Alwayzamazin

and i can say from personal experience to never have a met on your team, makes it all doubly painful

  • QueensRussell

Yeah, but Cishek is even better.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Same odds as 90 wins this season

  • Tommy Med

    2nd place as of now

  • QueensRussell

    Ooooh, that hurts

  • Joey D.

    Hi Joe D.,

LOL, that means poor Task will never get that email – too bad, would think the Mets would make a package deal with air fare and hotel room.

  • GB

    Captain Wright…..out

  • HarveyKsYou

Never watched a worse offense, that had actual big league quality hitters. Teams of our past didn’t really have any quality hitters.

  • Anthony

Just a tease don’t buy in

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

TDA looked great today I see. He actually made the bat touch the ball

  • MyasDaddy

    Correct sir.

  • QueensRussell

C’mon spirit of the Comeback Kids from ’86

  • HarveyKsYou

    For those dreadful offenses.

  • MyasDaddy

    But its true.

  • Andrew Herbst

    Murph continues to hit.

  • On the plus side Murphy is on my fantasy team.

  • muskytoes

    Clutch time for Captain Face

  • CJM

The third base coach should walk out to Murphy and personally let him know he has a stop sign right now.

  • prosoundz

6 scattered hits. Murph is the man though. Him and Lagares are the only players who resemble MLB players. Wright needs to come thru.

  • billpulsipher

Colon sucks. another awful sandy alderson signing. Abreu leads the league in RBI. another awful alderson decision not to sign him.

  • Manager of The Year

Same here. Been doing wonders for me

  • $14435385

I half expected him to try for 3 there…

  • Mcgrupp81

Is this the part where Wright gets on base and Valdespin comes out of the stands to hit a 3 run homer to tie the game?

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    Mine too

  • Charley’s Twin

Adam Rubin getting in on the Metsblog bashing?

    Adam Rubin ‏@AdamRubinESPN 49s

Got it. Any stat not positive is trolling. I know a blog for you. RT @Rosab315: Keep on trolling my friend

  • Alwayzamazin

as soon as i dropped him he got hot, i am a jinx that way

  • Manager of The Year

Come home just now thinking it would be the seventh wasn’t surprised to see us losing in the ninth

  • HarveyKsYou

Here’s this mini “battle” back so we can here how we “battled”.

  • mets4lyfe

How many first pitch fastballs down the middle have the mets taken this outing? can anyone give me a rough estimate?

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    OF course

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

C’mon MYA you can name a lot more reasons than that….

  • QueensRussell

    Yeah, advancing the runner, Baby!

  • HarveyKsYou

    Wright looks terrible.

  • Tomthetinker

    Wright really isnt that good.

  • mad met

Did everyone sign thier letter.after a proformance like this i cant wait to give these idiots my money

  • prosoundz

Lol fast ball down the middle. Stanton would’ve roofed that ball.

  • Mcgrupp81

Productive outs! Now he can score on a passed ball.

  • Ted Danson

Man Im getting sick of our Captain.

  • Andrew Herbst

Wright has not come up with any big hits so far.

  • GB

    Shocker…..

  • MikePiazza3186

    Wright blows

  • prosoundz

Damn this kid got some gas. Marlins have an ACE.

  • ArchieBellandTheDrells

    guaranteed k now

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    WRIGHT SUCKING AS USUAL

  • metsfan79

Generation k was a great farm system just saying

  • bspo1

    nope, Mets just suck.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown
  • Andrew Herbst

    Last year against Mariano.

  • MikePiazza3186

    You got it

  • Mcgrupp81

    Granderson struck out?

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Im so done and I am so glad I wont be home to see the game tomorrow

  • HarveyKsYou

    Embarrassing.

  • George_Theodore

well, we’ve made progress, we’ve learned to lose in 2 hours..

  • Joey D.

    Hi BBLB,

Really? Losing has built Jeff into a really big character!

  • prosoundz

Complete game shutout and acts like nothing happened.

  • Manager of The Year

Can some tell me who the hell Henderson Alvarez is?

  • Andrew Herbst

    Another dreadful offensive performance.

  • Wow that was a sad effort.

  • ArchieBellandTheDrells

a pitcher on a team much superior than the Mets

  • prosoundz

95 mph on the corner and a devastating curve. Come on dude. I know we suck. But they are better than us.

  • Tommy Med

Meet the Mets, Greet the Mets. Step righttt up and watch them rip your heart out every season

  • mad met

Well granderson is helping him with his swing

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

He’s CY YOUNG to the Mets hitters

  • Charley’s Twin

    team stinks

  • WilponsNeed2Go

The Mets keep “hitting” like this they’ll be in last place by the end of the week.

  • Andrew Herbst

He is a good player, but not a superstar.

  • CJM

Heat win by 20 though. The night isn’t all bad.

  • jimmy705

As anger turns to boredom and indifference…..

  • prosoundz

    Threw a no-hitter last year.

  • ArchieBellandTheDrells

theyll be in last place by the end of tonight

  • Alwayzamazin

$136 Million thumbs up on that

  • mr. belvedere

he grouded out his last two AB’s in big spots but both were scorched, you really can’t do anything about that…and idk why the 2B was playing up the middle like that

  • HarveyKsYou

Time to get a quick game of MLB 14 the show in on the PS4.. Been waiting for this game. Wish I didn’t have this opportunity as the mets would still be playing and coming back to win.

  • Helloboy

mets have won 1 of their last 5 games. terrible road trip

  • Mcgrupp81

Glad to see Keith enjoyed the game.

  • Andrew Herbst

    Yep. Agreed.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Someone told me JEFF WILPON was a better catcher than TRAVIS D’ARNAUD LOL

  • Joanie Yan

Since they’re now at 500, I guess they’re on a pace to win 81 games.

  • MyasDaddy

    BOOOOOOOOOOO! lol

  • MikePiazza3186

I don’t like terry but how do u blame him for that one at all!!! Sandy is the one that put this offense together

  • Manager of The Year

Oh the night is all bad. Most people here are probably Knicks or Nets fans myself included

  • muskytoes

    Ouch

  • CJM

    LBJ!

  • Charley’s Twin

    thumbs down

  • Joey D.

Guys, at least we are consistent. If we pitch well, we don’t hit. If we hit, we don’t get pitching. Except for Saturday night, when was the last time we lost something like a 5-4 game which has a little bit of both?

  • QueensRussell

Seriously, I want Wally Backman as the manager. He manages like he played. Maniacal effort all the time. This bunch of lifeless punks needs him!

  • MyasDaddy

This characterizes as you know as a double blow night.

  • George_Theodore

Keith can enjoy a Ribeye steak & some Chardonnay in South Beach!

  • Manager of The Year

    BANDWAGON!!!!

  • MetsfanInParadise

That’s not the kind of consistency to be proud of

  • Charley’s Twin

    flagging this comment haha

  • CJM

Been a LeBron fan since he was drafted.

  • IndianaMet

I turned off the game after Granderson Kd looking at a 3-2 fastball right down the middle in the 6th or 7th inning. I turned on a college baseball game. That’s real baseball. I had forgotten what it was like.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Of course it was warm and the game was over in 2 hours.

  • Super T

Don’t know if I would call it “hitting”.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

    hence the “…”

  • MetsfanInParadise

    opening day?

  • QueensRussell

Would love to see the accountability under a Backman leadership.

  • Joey D.

    Hi Joanie,

If we think of it, they’ve lost five of their last six so they might be on a pace to win maybe 22 more games this year and break our 1962 record.

  • mets4lyfe

Good thing I didn’t check up on this game until the top of the 9th inning.Typical Mets, always getting shut-out by sinker-ball pitchers that pump in strikes.

Maybe Alderson needs to re-think the approach he’s trying to instill in the Mets hitters.

  • Waz0787

Guys lets give TDA. I have been saying he is overrated from day one. I have called names people here tried to humiliated me but reality dont lie. He sucks.

  • Anthony

I need a few days off from this slop

  • CJM

    LeBron James isn’t a DB.

  • Phoenix Met

Could it be the nut-blistering losses and lack of movement by Sandy and Co. are taking a toll? They did not look like they even felt like playing tonight.

  • louisrstennes@yahoo.com

Look boys and girls. We didn’t lose, we ran out of innings.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Strange interview on the marlins ‘cast that I’m not listening to–tonight’s pitcher and the sideline hottie with Jose Fernandez translating

  • Waz0787

Soon mets will shake things up send down familia and bring up black.

  • prosoundz

Why can’t we get more guys like Murphy who come to play everyday. I want a bunch of Murphy’s with power and defense. Is that too much to ask for?

  • prosoundz

    That’ll shake it up.

  • prosoundz

    This team was trolling us.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Remember when the Mets were 15W-12L????

And everyone was going gaga…well Sandy lovers were going gaga

    WELL now we are……………….16W-16L

And the Sandy lovers are nowhere to be found. AS USUAL

    http://lisashouse.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/hiding.jpg

  • mr1313

They are lifeless and if I see Travis checking if an IF is ok after a hard slide I’m going to revoke his man card that stuff pisses me off. I wish Backman would take over the rest of the season give him a tryout the remainder and go from there.

  • MyasDaddy

    Did you say defense?

  • jjong

More like clean house the bullpen starting with Valverde and Fransworth for Black and other player from minors (Degrom or Montero)

  • IndianaMet

I’d trade the whole lineup for Dustin Pedroia .

  • Mets4ever

Does anyone know if/ when we face Tanaka? He’s the only pitcher i worry about on Yankees

  • mr. belvedere

Although I still don’t think Flores has the chops to be a MLB SS, I think it’s time to call him up to give him a shot…he’s had over a month in AAA and his bat is heating up….bring him up let him play every day there til the draft and maybe we sign Drew afterwards…send Tejada down, DFA Q, and call up Tovar (who’s hitting .350) to be the backup

  • Tommy Med

    LMAO

  • Waz0787

This is mets we talking about remember last year they sent down davis after being humiliated in miami

  • mr1313

Let him manage the rest of the year as a tryout. Collins needs to go now!

  • louisrstennes@yahoo.com

The only AAA team with an 80 million dollar payroll.

  • Matt Mosher

Pathetic. What a joke. Nice job Sandy.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    LOL

  • mr. belvedere

Valverde actually has 4 clean appearances in a row now I think

  • Joey D.

Mets are two and five on this road trip according to Gary. Since they lost three of four to Colorado and the first two to Miami it sounds better than going 1-5 since a week ago against Cole Hamels.

  • prosoundz

WTF man? Jose Fernandez, Alvarez, Cishek, Stanton, Yelich, Ozuna, Hechavarria, McGehee. Can we trade teams?

  • jjong

I don’t necessary disagree with you at all. But really? Who really is dependable. Famillia is getting used to majors, both Ric and Torres arms are about to come off….and everyone else is a roller coaster.

  • prosoundz

    Except for Lagares.

  • Joanie Yan

The team is what it is. 20% of the season is done. If you prorate their stats (times everything by 5 ) it’s probably not that far off from where they’ll be. Murphy will have 5 HRs, 55 RBIs, Wright will have 5 HRs, 85 RBIs, Granderson 15 HRs 65 RBIs, Duda 20 HRs, 75 RBIs.
These are not the offensive stats of a good team.

  • Glenn

There’s not much you can say about this mess, the team has starting pitching and almost nothing else. DW has to be the most overrated and overpaid singles hitter in MLB…7 extra base hits in 130 AB’s??? His power has been declining for years, but appears to have fallen off a cliff. D’Ar is simply not a ML hitter, Tejada is…well, he’s Tejada and that’s all you need to know. I’m sick of watching this circus. I’ll know that the Wilponzi’s are getting serious when TC is axed, until that old fool is out of here you know they really don’t think they can win, so why pay anybody good.

  • 3doza33

Winning teams like the Red Sox?

  • Alwayzamazin

Hi Joanie, please don’t prorate HRs by salary or we may all have to jump ship

  • George_Theodore

send dice-k down, not a relief pitcher

  • Matt Mosher

It’s awful. I blame no one that jumps ship for another team at this point. Things will not get better. There are no bats on the farm and the owners won’t spend any money. This team is insolvent.

  • jjong

Sandy might not bring the youth because he is afraid Collins will misuse them.

  • prosoundz

Again I ask. Why the f uck did we sign Granderson to a 3 year deal instead of Cruz to a 1 year deal 8 mil? Did we have NO confidence in Puello or Nimmo to be good? I mean it’s not like we were turned off by his age or P.E.D scandle, being that they signed Colon. This is DJ Carrasco, Frank Francisco all over again. That year they could’ve signed Cespedes and the year after Puig. Doesn’t make any fu ckin sense. Mets are idiots or maybe they have a gripe to pick with Cuban players.

  • Same old Mets

I just can’t stand watching this team. How does ownership allow this mess to continue. This team really sucks!

  • Charley’s Twin

the Wilpons will put M Donald Grant to shame when all is said and done.

  • billpulsipher

gutless showing by a gutless team./ i shut it off after the 1st inning. guess i didnt miss anything…wheres all the sandy lovers now..this team is an utter disgrace and failure

  • Waz0787

This How this site works. In the morning all the Alderson and wilpons lovers come out bashing anyone that criticizes this team. The Mets are going on right directions things will change starting tonight. As usual mets loses, they all go back to hiding.

  • The Nihilist

New to MMO. Mets fan. Been following but not posting for awhile.

A few posts mention that Montero was signed by Alderson. Yes, Alderson did fill out the paper work but Montero had been scouted by the Mets for years. He signed with the Mets a month after Alderson started, or, in other words, before he had a chance to assemble his brilliant staff.

And turning over two vets for TDA, Thor, and Wheeler still remains to be seen if its going to be a good move. On the other hand, the Marlins got Alvarez when they dumped all their vets onto Toronto. How’s that working out for the Marlins? Oh, right. And the SS, who is light years better than the one the Mets currently run out there.

It took the Marlins less than 3 years to rebuild their major league roster, or, the approximate time its taken Alderson and his crew to decide what kind of coffee they like to drink in the morning.

Where’s this character JB, and the others followers who think the Mets are rebuilding. Pay attention to the Marlins. This is how its done.

  • billpulsipher

the dude who used to post here that was a dodgers fan…lucky SOB lol

  • Waz0787

This is a 68 wins team.

  • Matt Mosher

One nugget of GOOD NEWS. Mejia now says he would be willing to be the closer.

  • Waz0787

Don’t worry once sun rises they all come out.

  • billpulsipher

at this point everyone should jump ship. this team chooses not to exist

  • MyasDaddy

Why not? I am desperate to try anything right now.

  • billpulsipher

76 million. they cut Ike remember

  • George_Theodore
  • billpulsipher

it aint rising again this year

  • mets4lyfe

Marlins have great scouting and an extremely underrated front office that often gets overlooked because of the notoriety surrounding Loria. At the end of the day, when it comes to scouting, drafting, and developing talent, the Marlins are pretty darn good.

  • jjong

    agreed….

  • Alwayzamazin

I have talked to the walls about leadership and clubhouse culture for years

  • Waz0787

This is a disgrace organization from start to top.

  • prosoundz

Exactly, and they got a new stadium to boot. Loria knew what he was doing. Invest in scouts check, talented front office personnel check, get a stadium check, sign a bunch of free agents with no trade clauses keep a year and trade them before they suck for cheaper very talented talent check. Convince Stanton to stay and not beef again check.

  • Brian D.

    Great post!

    Welcome to MMO

  • George_Theodore

for a month… then go with either Montero or DeGrom

  • billpulsipher

when all is said and done sandy will sit alongside duquette and TC will sit alongside dallas green and art howe as utter failures in mets lore

  • MyasDaddy

The problem is the Mets half-assed it. I still think they would have been better off trading Wright and blowing this completely up and do a total rebuild.

  • Waz0787

Remember we had a winning record in April. Some idiot thought we won the WS.

  • billpulsipher

7 weeks is more than amonth

  • The Nihilist

Yes. Its called being a savvy business owner who realizes that you make money when you win. He’s despicable but so are the Wilpons.

Despicable and a winner — I’ll take Loria every day of the week.

  • George_Theodore

    middle of june? 5 weeks?

  • Waz0787

Trade him right now. Dodgers might take him.

  • The Nihilist

I hope I don’t regret this — but thanks. Glad to be here.

  • Waz0787

Trade Wrighy. He is the puppet of Jeffrey

  • BronxMets

ridiculous comparison they signed a half billion dollars of players and traded them all away.

  • Phoenix Met

I always figured St. Louis would be all over him if he was available, but you are probably right, the Dodgers are not far fetched.

  • prosoundz

He did what he had to do for the better of the team. Even if he looked like a bad guy doing so. He made a decision had a plan and stuck to it. I’m sure it’s do to the talented personell he surrounds himself, which he probably pays really well.

  • MyasDaddy

It’s too late now. He is here for 4-life.

  • Guest

all the sandy lovers were taking bows after april…..where did they all go? because reality has set in and hell is on the horizon. last place

  • BronxMets

wow where you been granderson is a 4 year contract

  • George_Theodore

    Wright for Stanton, straight up!

  • prosoundz

Amazing feat if you ask me. Genius level stuff. They got some amazing players in those deals.

  • BronxMets

    well Muprh does suck…..

  • The Nihilist

    Meaning what?

He was able to stockpile a rebuild after his FA signings didn’t pan out? And sign much more effective FAs this off season?

Reyes cost this man basically what the Mets are spending on C. Young for one season. AND they get a great young SS in the process.

That’s savvy, brilliant and bold. Three adjectives you would be hard pressed to use when describing Alderson.

  • Alwayzamazin

no sandy is th e big puppet and collins is the small, crying puppet

  • The Nihilist

Unfortunately, and respectfully, I think the point is going over his head.

  • Devan Cleary

But Sandy has a plan!!….by 2028 we’ll be in the playoffs

  • Phoenix Met

Damn dude. Welcome!! Don’t stop posting.

  • The Nihilist

Respectfully … bla, bla, bla, bla.

  • prosoundz

In just 3 posts, you have become one of my favs. Lol

  • The Nihilist

Thank you. Glad to be here.

  • prosoundz

THAT, is how it is done Alderson.

  • Charley’s Twin

maybe he’ll look into the camera and ask us to sign THE OATH

  • The Nihilist

Who are you talking about? Its not clear. If its Loria and his FO, my apologies. If you are referring to Alderson and his boys, my reply stands.

  • prosoundz

Might be the new kid and phone calls he’s getting from the Mrs.

  • The Nihilist

    LOL, indeed. Thanks.

  • louisrstennes@yahoo.com

Met fans have to stay away from Citi Field. How else can we affect change. Their cheap trick letter was the first sign of desperation. When the Mets get home and they see an empty and I mean empty stadium, all of NY will take notice, Francesa will talk about it forever

  • Alwayzamazin

or say the core was Right about him

  • prosoundz

Mejia would make an awesome closer. Montero, Syndergaard, deGrom can’t come soon enough.

  • Alwayzamazin

even craig carton went to camp yankee

  • BronxMets

so how was sandy with ZERO DOLLARS going to sign all those guys? Pleaswe explain.

  • The Nihilist

I hear that Alderson is having the rings sized up — April 2014 Second place NL East Champions of Baseball.

  • Phoenix Met

Agreed. Missed the best chance at a haul few years back.

  • prosoundz

Yeap. Sign Murph to an extension. He has tools that don’t go away with age. He’s not a power hitter, not a speedster and he had no defensive range to begin with. Yet he still is a very productive player.

  • The Nihilist

Before you look so follish, if its not too late already, you do realize what the Marlin’s payroll is, right? And you do know that the Met’s payroll is in the $70 millions?

And you also realize that the Marlins don’t play in NYC?

  • Charley’s Twin

that show is awful, and i don’t even care that they’re rude to the Mets. They just namedrop endlessly and aren’t funny.

  • Alwayzamazin

??? maybe because wfan dumped the mets and is now the home of the yankees???

  • MyasDaddy

I don’t blame this at all on DW though. But when you have no money whatsoever, you have to do it.

  • BronxMets

me look foolish so that’s your strategy when you have lost all credibility attack the other poster. Good luck there is no need to ever chat with me as I will never chat with you again. BYE.

  • The Nihilist

I’m thinking M. Donald Grant for Alderson. Maybe Wes Westrum for Collins.

  • The Nihilist

I didn’t say you were foolish. I said the statement makes you look foolish. There’s a big difference … one that bridges civility and flame throwing.

  • George_Theodore

yeah, but when he loses a step or two, he will be a brick at 2nd.. trade him & put Flores at 2nd

  • The Nihilist

Its hard to argue with moving him to bullpen. On one hand, disappointed, but on the other, sounds right. Lights out a couple trips around, and I think, if memory serves me, filthy in the first inning.

  • Alwayzamazin

lol! i find them entertaining but never gave it much thought. I will hear with new ears tmrw. 🙂

  • The Nihilist

Where do they all go at night?

  • jjong

I can’t listen to them also. Well, even before yankess became part of Wfan, I heard Craig talk about Mets fan for Yankees…I never understood that he would change teams s fast but also says rude to callers at times.

  • Matt Mosher

Craig Carton was ALWAYS a Yankees fan.

  • The Nihilist

Can this Jason Bay character give us a long bloated asinine reply about team building and patience and building from the farm.

Meantime, the Mets roster is filled with a lot of retreads that he rails against — Colon, Abreu, C. Young, Farnsworth, Valverde, Dice-K. Funny, but I didn’t see any old guys on the team that just gut shot us.

Even he knows its a lie. The Marlins know how to rebuild. The Mets know how to play three card monte. Period.

  • Selltheteam06

Honestly who has a position player so bad that he gets PH for every game? This is an insult.

  • Matt Mosher

    Yes he would.

  • Matt Mosher

Bring up deGrom. He won’t super two anyway.

  • prosoundz

He never had a step. And who loses a step at age 33? That’s around 4 years from now.

  • Alwayzamazin

rude to callers is Francesa’s specialty. but I like Steve Somers

  • prosoundz

Mejia at closer would make us a much better team. DeGrom in the pen makes us a contender. Montero, Syndergaard in the rotation makes us a first place team. If only we can get a few hitters.

  • The TDA/Thor/Bucerra, Wheeler and Herrera/Black deals WERE good moves. It remains to be seen whether they pan out but the moves were certainly good deals. The Ike deal is pending the PTBNL but so far, so good.

Sandy was formally announced as GM in Oct 2010. Paul DePo was named VP of player development and scouting in November. Montero was signed in January.

Pay attention to what by the Marlins?

Long time reader first time poster, huh?

  • Matt Mosher

They DON’T CARE. As long as they remain owners, nothing else matters.

  • Alwayzamazin

not till after labor day, at least back when they were the Mets flagship station

  • Matt Mosher

Have you SEEN Puello this year?!

  • prosoundz

As soon as Montero, Syndergaard and deGrom get the call. Trade Gee AND Niese for some young talented major league ready bats. Would Niese be good enough to get us Jurickson Profar?

  • The Nihilist

With all due respect, the Mets had been scouting Montero heavily for years. The Marlins have a young, vibrant, exciting team with better pitching, better BP, better position players and much more in the pipeline.

    Pay attention to that.

And you can actually say that the moves were good when not a single one of those players has done anything at the major league level? So neither good, nor bad, as I stated. Incomplete.

  • prosoundz

He swears, he is important. Him and Boomer with the usual name droppings and plans for later on the air. Who cares if they are going to dinner with so and so athlete. He seems like he tries very hard to be a part of that world yet he wants to mock it at the same time. VERY WEIRD.

  • jimmy705

You speak sense, Nihilist, but without being noisy about it.

You are going to absolutely drive certain posters here CRAZY. It’ll be much harder for them to shrug off or sneer at your well-reasoned posts than the angry ones…which is why you got such a condescending response up there right away.

Glad to see you here! Please keep posting.

  • The Nihilist

Jimmy — thanks. I am going to try and remain respectful to the negative posts, but you know how that goes sometimes. Sometimes you just can’t help yourself.

  • prosoundz

    Mets solutions:

Montero, Syndergaard, deGrom to the rotation. And yea I don’t give a rats ass if they are young and inexperienced. On the job training for next year.

Niese or Gee or both for Profar and Micheal Choice.

Flores to 1B. Duda trade for anything productive.

    Mejia to Close

Chris Young traded for anything productive

Bring up Puello to play RF.

  • I read the first line and I was like, hey, not bad. Then I read the rest and I was all like, whoa this guy is a crazyperson

  • The Nihilist

And please tell me that you would rather have the Marlin’s haul from dumping Vets, than ours? Alvarez might be as good as Harvey; and the SS is up and coming, a defensive whiz who’s hitting now. They got more, too. Some on the way.

In his best day, Wheeler will not be Alvarez. And Thor seems to come down to earth at AAA, so I’d at least wait until he pitches a game in ML.

Never said I was a long time reader. You did.

  • prosoundz

    Mejia to close is crazy?

    Duda traded is crazy?

    Chris Young traded is crazy?

    Puello to RF is crazy?

What”s crazy is NOT doing any of that.

  • prosoundz

We need talent. Trade Gee and Niese when Montero and Syndergaard get the call. Hopefully we can get a very productive SS ala Profar and Montero and Syndergaard can pitch close to what Gee and Niese produce. I’ll take the drop off in pitching if it means we get a productive everyday player or two.

  • Bail4Nails

We argued about this all Offseason, saying that no matter how the team was doing come May, The Wilpons and Sandy would NEVER break Super 2 to bring up Reinforcements.
The Pro-Sandy guys swore that he would do it when it was “prudent”, “it’s a long Season”, “the need for ‘Veteran’ depth”, blah blah blah.
The best time to make some changes and boost this team was LAST NIGHT. The Second Best time is TONIGHT.
All the NL East teams are Floating close together now. It won’t stay that way for long. After last night’s “demoralizing” defeat, the Mets are prone to doldrums, ruts, and slumps. The cure for this is new blood and fresh faces.
If the GM continues to sit by with his thumbs up his A**, I can guarantee it will be “a long Season”.
Mr. Alderson- Call Vegas, get Bullpen help, a new temporary Shortstop until you learn how to Trade for a Right-now Player, maybe Campbell for Satin also, and if you really want to send a message- replace Terry with Backman or Lopez.
Then, watch the Attitude change in the Clubhouse and on the Field. You can Lose Seasons in May. Guess what? It’s May! We’re Losing! Do Something!

  • metsfan79

When I was younger I always thought nelson doubleday wasthe issue/problem with my team guess I couldn’t have been more wrong.
How about all those suckers that bought a piece of the mets for 20 mil lol talk about a bad ROI lol

  • The Nihilist

Should have been the plan all along. Time for on the job training, and for this team to really go through the growing pains.

Not this bandaid here, bandaid there crap with these veterans. Its a recipe for 75 wins otherwise, something which Alderson is very consistent producing.

  • The Nihilist

Time for Alderson to really commit to something with more depth than moving the deck chairs around.

  • The Mets brought in an entirely new FO with a new philosophy very much unlike the last. Fact remains, this brand new FO signed Montero, not the previous one regardless of how long they had been scouting him.
You can easily call a trade a good one before seeing how it works out. Given the information available about all pieces to the trade, they were certainly at the very least fair, if not favorable towards the Mets. You cannot predict the future and they certainly didn’t trade for garbage. Everyone has been at the very least high ceiling if not almost unanimously praised.

The Marlins are not as good as they’ve played. They are not a 14-5 at home team. They have some good pitching. They have some good position players. Their farm system is ranked well behind the Mets’.
Hechavarria is not very good. Better than Tejada? Meh, I guess. That doesn’t make him good.

  • The Nihilist

I agree that the time for the bold moves by this GM were earlier this week when the Braves were winning and the Mets started sliding. I know I’d be buying a few more tickets to see the younger players on the Mets than this makeshift load he’s put together.

edit: meant ‘when the Braves were losing’. Sorry.

  • The Nihilist

We respectfully disagree, on everyone of your points.

  • The Nihilist

They’ve won virtually the same amount of games the past three seasons. Alderson has certainly stabilized the franchise — as he drives it into oblivion.

  • Alvarez is a good pitcher. Better than Harvey? Well, he hasn’t shown that in the majors while Harvey has proved to be as good as Harvey so…

Hechavarria had a campaign of futility to rival Tejada’s last season. He’s off to a good start this year. He’s a .273 hitter in the minors and that’s including a full season in the PCL. Same place that Thor is “coming down to earth” in. Funny prediction about Wheeler and Alvarez though. Based on what, exactly?

Yep, you sound like another one of those Mets “fans” this place is lousy with

  • well, you haven’t provided much in the way of facts to back your assertions so I can’t see this going much further.

  • what is Duda traded for? Mejia leaves the rotation in favor of unproven arms? Young traded for what? Puello ready to play? Yeah, all crazy

  • The Nihilist

Funny how you use the same logic to defend your points, to dispute mine. I think Alvarez is a top of the rotation stud, and I think Wheeler will be a 2-3. And I really think this SS is much improved from last year. Could be wrong.

But the proof I don’t have yet, you don’t have either, though you think you’re right. Both are producing in the majors, ina big way. Good enough for me. I’d trade Wheeler in a heartbeat for Alvarez. And throw in TDA, if we get their SS. Sound absurd? That’s how absurd your position is.

  • The Nihilist

Well, I have. But you’re so narrow-minded and hell bent on being right you can’t comprehend contrary reasoning. So you attack it. I replied to each of your points.

  • in fairness, you did say “might be as good as Harvey”. Sure, so might Jon Niese and he’s actually performed like it so far. Wouldnt’ say something crazy like that though.
Hechavarria has hit better than last year which was virtually impossible not to do
Wheeler and TDA for Alvarez and Hechvarria? OK man, now you’re pulling my leg. Why don’t we throw Thor in too for Salty

  • The Nihilist

Doubleday leaving was as damaging to the Mets as Madoff. Its always struck me as possibly something more than a coincidence that Doubleday got out when he did. Does anyone find that timing curious?

  • with “I think” and “my belief is”. That isn’t factual evidence to support your assertions.
Like Montero wasn’t an SA signing. Oh sure, he was technically signed by Sandy months after he took over but the Mets had been looking at him before Sandy moved on him so it’s not really Sandy’s signing. Really?

  • The Nihilist

If you simply re-read this post you’ll get an idea of why I can’t respond. Its like enabling.

  • This is like backtracking ^

  • Seriously man, you might say “with all due respect” a lot but your posts are the same as dozens of others’s posts. I really love the Mets but every player on every other team is better and here’s why “because I love the Mets”

  • The Nihilist

Well, he was a Alderson signing. You’re right. He filled out the paperwork on the contract. He did not, however, have anything to do with scouting this young man.

  • so, he what? Thought his name would look good on a Mets uniform so took a flier?

  • The Nihilist

I think its called reality. Or, if you prefer … history repeating itself year after year.

So, I believe this man — whether at the behest of the Wilpon’s or not — has made this team a laughing stock. Utterly futile to watch. Any fan who truly loves the Mets should be outraged. You are not. Great. But the Mets play in NYC, not La Vegas. Dreams play in Las Vegas.

  • The Nihilist

No. He relied on year’s of scouting reports to sign him.

  • The Nihilist

Is it asking too much that you stop replying to everything I post? I’ve already said we disagree. Isn’t that enough?

  • Bail4Nails

Welcome to MMO! Who do you like for Shortstop and the Bullpen? It seems the only thing folks on here agree about, is that these 2 areas need fixing. Quick tip: careful which players you commit to. Some guys here have memories longer than an angry wife.
Again, good to have you. This is a great Mets site.

  • I despise the Wilpons. Everything about them makes me cringe in disgust. They are low class, smug sh1tbags.

I just don’t believe that the Marlins are very good. I certainly wouldn’t bet on Alvarez being as good as Harvey if only because Harvey has ALREADY been as good as Harvey while Alvarez has not. Who knows, maybe Harvey is one of the guys who TJ doesn’t work for but barring a genetic issue with healing that particular ligament, he is as good a candidate as any to come back good as new.
Hechavarria was pretty much garbage his first 2 years in the MLs, never did very much in the minors and has put together a nice April. I don’t think I am trading the consensus #1 catching prospect from last year for him.

Alderson was hired to rebuild on the cheap, just as he did in Oakland. By the time we are serious, perennial contenders, he’ll probably be commish just as he was gone from the A’s when Bean started reaping the benefits.
He hasn’t made all good moves but he has been largely solid and has take a barren farm system and transformed it into the envy of most of the league and, at the very least, a good bit better than the Marlins system which you claim is so wonderful

  • Bail4Nails

It was probably the day after he met Jeff.

  • Waz0787

I noticed you already met wilpons puppet. No matter what this organization is always right. According to this dude. Enjoy the conversation

  • it’s called a conversation. Perhaps you really should have called yourself the The Narcissist?

  • except when they’re wrong. Only problem is, they’re not wrong all the time. Unlike you and apparently “The Nihilist”.

  • The Nihilist

Thanks, B4N. Appreciate it. I can’t see how Flores could be any worse. I believe Tejada has the lower WAR at SS (not that I am a big WAR guy). But the hypocrites who run this team are WAR guys and they keep filling up the roster with players who really are in opposition to this philosophy. Just my two cents. Flores could be quite an offensive SS.

I’ve felt the young guys should be in the pen all year. They’re going to be growing pains and might as well get them out of the way now. As another poster said, I’d much prefer to watch Familia blow a save than any of the retreads.

    And thanks for the ‘tip’!

  • Waz0787

Bro I would’ve lost it by now. Looking forward reading your comments. Come in the morning you will laugh. I was told by someone I need to go easy on wilpons because they’re not a typical a big market ownership. They love taking it slow lom

  • The Nihilist

Gees, he’s wearing me out. Now if he was really interested in debate, I’d have no problem. But he’s only interested in posting that he’s always right.

  • The Nihilist

Clever response. But in the case of the Mets and this regime, I’ll stick with the name I choose.

  • The Nihilist

LOL. Reports are that he detested Jeff. But what else spooked Doubleday? I think he was beginning to feel uneasy about where all the money was parked.

Or wasn’t parked, as it didn’t exist.

  • Waz0787

Welcome to MMO brother. I look forward reading your comments. Good to see people with common sense in this blog.

  • The Nihilist

    Appreciate it. Likewise.

  • was really the only response to someone complaining that a person with whom they are actively engaged in a conversation responds to their posts

  • Andrew Herbst

    Agreed.

  • Waz0787

Good to have people with common sense in this site. I for one looking forward reading his Comments

  • prosoundz

Puello IS ready to play. Duda could be traded for a bag of balls for all I care, if it means giving Flores 1B for the next few years. Don’t act like Youngs production couldn’t be matched by Puello and getting rid of the contract opens up money to put in other areas extensions. Mejia can’t get through 5 innings without imploding. Look Mejia is my favorite pitcher also but if he can be a lights out closer I would love for him to be in a spot where he can shine brightly.

  • prosoundz

Exactly. Something DRASTIC has to happen. Like trading away Gee AND Niese for guys like Profar or similar talent. This team has mediocre talent, Duda, Gee, Niese, all solid players at times but NOT together on the same team. We need REAL talent, not guys who have so so talent and get through with guile and what not. We have that in Murphy already and he is the exception.

  • prosoundz

I’ll cross my fingers and wait for Super Two. Hopefully, Wheels pitches a good game and we can scratch together a couple of runs. I want to keep Syndergaard cheap for a long time as well as Montero. This year was house money anyways. We don’t have the talent yet. Flores needs to be at 1B and Puello in RF. Then trade for SS like Profar. THEN when Harvey gets back we will have solid defense AND offense.

  • prosoundz

    Jurickson Profar.

  • prosoundz

I only listen because its the only sports talk on in the AM on the drive to work. Plus I can’t stand listening to Mike and Mike in the morning, talk about football plays, notre dame, college sports, with the same analysts analyzing plays that happened last football season.

  • prosoundz

Baseball gods if you are listening, please give me:

    Profar
    Syndergaard
    Montero
    deGrom
    Puello
    Flores
    Andrew Brown

    And take away:

    Duda
    Tejada
    Gee
    Niese
    Young (both of them)

    Thanks. 🙂

  • Haha. I’d pass on Oprah as owner.

  • Now you’re talkin’.

  • It is wild that they feature the Mets on the show more than the Yankees. But I’ll take it. Little victories.

  • donobrien

We have that in Murphy already and he is the exception.

    What does that mean?

  • donobrien

Duda called him off. Leave Murph alone until he makes his own mistake.

  • metsfan79

Thats what I was thinking just wasn’t sure of the timing. I don’t know when wilponz got in bed with madoff

  • Agee’s Catch

My objection is that there have been a couple of games that we flat out gave away.

    In my dreams……

I heard Colon saw Daisuke warming up before the game. Asked if he knew that he, Colon, was starting. Daisuke said “Yes. Terry said I’m closing”

  • Joey D.

    Hi Nihilist,

Maybe that was the plan David was so excited about and couldn’t wait to telephone others to sign with the Mets – Sandy drives team into oblivion, players sign big contracts that have to be honored by MLB because team no longer exists (oblivion).

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

Eh, I’d only be for it if she gives everyone a 7-day cruise trip on Fan Appreciation Night, because let’s face it, a lot of us need a vacation to digest the past season 😉

  • Haha, I’m in on the cruise. And you need to digest…only this past season??
