MMO Game Thread: Diamondbacks vs Mets, 7:10 PM

bartolo colon

The Mets open a three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field on Friday at 7:10 PM. Bartolo Colon (3-5, 5.34) gets the start for the Mets and will be opposed by Chase Anderson  (2-0, 5.06) for the D-Backs.

Colon is coming off his best start of the year against the Washington Nationals, tossing a season high 8.0 innings and allowing just five hits and one earned run. He has fanned 43 batters and issued just six walks this season for a 7.17 strikeout-to-walk ratio, fourth-best in the majors.

Terry Collins said Travis d’Arnaud may play a couple of rehab games before returning from the disabled list for concussion symptoms. He took part in batting practice at Citi Field today.

Jose Valverde will close tonight if Mets have a save opportunity, writes Adam Rubin. Jenrry Mejia is fine, he says, but just worked consecutive days for the first time since 2010.

Wilmer Flores is starting for the third straight time at shortstop. He was 1-4 last night and was robbed of a hit. Flores has reached base safely in six straight games and is hitting .364 (8-22) during that stretch.

David Wright has 30 hits this month, tied for the most in the NL with Yasiel Puig of the Dodgers. He is hitting .341 (30-88) with 11 runs scored, eight doubles and 10 RBI in 20 games this month, reaching base safely in 17 of those 20 games.

Starting Lineup

  1. Juan Lagares – CF
  2. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  3. David Wright – 3B
  4. Curtis Granderson – RF
  5. Chris Young – LF
  6. Lucas Duda – 1B
  7. Wilmer Flores – SS
  8. Juan Centeno – C
  9. Bartolo Colon – RHP

The Mets finally snapped their losing streak last night against the Dodgers in one of the more bizarre games played in Citi Field that included career highlight reel catches for Puig and Campbell … and just awful baserunning and a clear not understanding of baseball rules. The Mets look to build off this as the Diamondbacks come to to town today with Colon on the mound as he takes on Chase Anderson.

Colon is 3-5 over 9 starts and 57.1 innings and a 5.34 ERA. Colon’s trend in May has been terrible start, good start, bad start, great start (last time out he tossed 8.0 innings allowing only 2 ER) so who knows which Colon shows up today. He missed the Diamondbacks earlier this year and in his career he has only faced Arizona once allowing 8 hits over 5.2 innings and 4 earned runs. The Diamondbacks have the following numbers against Colon:

  • Chavez 5-30, 2 2B, HR
  • Pennington 4-9, 2B
  • Hill 2-7
  • Ross 1-6

Chase Anderson is making this third start in his rookie season. So far he is 2-0 allowing 6 ER over 10.2 innings. He spent his time in Double A this season with a 4-2 record and 6 starts over 39.0 innings with a 0.69 ERA. He has never faced the Mets or any on Mets roster in his career, which makes perfect sense.

Lets Go Mets!

  • Ted Danson

    No SOUP for you!

  • CJM

I think this is Wilmer’s 4th straight start, actually.

  • Andrew Herbst

TC’s favorite Seinfeld episode must be the Soup Nanzi. I don’t know why he has to play CY over him.

  • Waz0787

Great CY and duda are in lineup useless

  • Well if nothing else, Centeno can’t suck that bad defensively tonight. If you can’t catch Colon then you aren’t a catcher.

  • JOHNNY P

Does anyone else think of Livan Hernandez when Colon takes the mound? I feel like he is going to give you a bad outing about every 3 or 4 starts. I felt the same way about Livan when he was pitching 2 or 3 good to great starts then 1 stinker.

  • HawkZon

    Where is Campbell?

  • chavez06

I don’t think Terry will bench will Lagares again after last week’s fan uprising. I don’t think even Terry is that stupid. I think Terry also understands fans want to see Flores over Tejada.

  • We need Colon to rattle off 7 straight quality starts in which he posts one shutout, three seven inning one run games, and three seven inning two run games – starting tonight. This would be wonderful. Here’s to hoping…

  • JOHNNY P

You are talking about Terry right? He goes with what he wants until Sandy tells him otherwise.

  • Metfan9876

Off topic but what do you guys think of Elvis Andrus?

  • Nmartz

Hopefully CY will feel some pressure with Suop getting heat and loved by the fans. He’ll get at least one hit tonight

  • NewYorkMammoths

I know some people don’t like booing, but Oliver Perez may be taking the mound tonight at Citi Field.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

He was one guy I was pushing for over the winter for the Mets to trade for, but thus far, he’s been really disappointing this season.

  • Metfan9876

He has been disappointing so far, but I would love for the Mets to acquire him. He’s a pretty underrated young player, in my opinion.

  • Nmartz

My concern is CY, not Duda. Duda at least can hit the ball out of the park and get some hits, so he’s not useless, not the way CY has been.

  • LastSaneMetsFan

    Where’s the Soup?

  • Chris H

The next 14 games for this team could be huge if we go 10-4 or 9-5 against some pretty weak teams. Arizona,Pittsburgh,Philly, Cubs

  • $14435385

There are 133 million reasons the Mets won’t acquire him…

  • Nmartz

It won’t be that easy against the Pirates..

  • Taskmaster4450

Perez shut down the Mets in AZ when they faced him last month.

  • BCleveland3381

Valverde is closing tonight if there is a save situation. In other words, we either win by 4+, or lose.

  • Metropolitan

lets be real folks,Chris Young is going to get playing time

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

Murph is starting to show signs of going into a mini-slump. Would have been a good night to give him a day off with Campbell or Young at 2B. Then Wright a day off tomorrow. 20 games in 20 days – they need a rest here and there.

  • Taskmaster4450

Thats Murphy on fire and then ice cold.

And it only take 4 ABs for him to go either way.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

“David Wright has 30 hits this month, tied for the most in the NL with Yasiel Puig of the Dodgers. He is hitting .341 (30-88) with 11 runs scored, eight doubles and 10 RBI in 20 games this month, reaching base safely in 17 of those 20 games.” – – wow, this is almost impossible to believe.

  • Helloboy

Right. Fine. Just do not bat him 5th when he does.

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

It really is. 8 doubles? Wow.

  • Helloboy

Pirates have a worse record than the Mets and have been playing crappy lately. Nothing the Mets do is easy… however, the opposition does make it possible. It would be a good time to get hot. 9-5 and back to .500 is possible. Especially if they start building on last night’s win.

  • Anthony

Francesca is killing campbell today. Dont get it

  • Metropolitan

    agreed

  • Why? I hate that guy…

  • Anthony

Ps mike stop taking calls you despise your callers

  • metsjetsfan

    Free Campbell!

  • Anthony

He says he is not a major leaguer should not be in the outfield

  • Peter S

Lol because he knows that it will piss off mets fans, and force them to listen/call in. Ratings increase.

  • Jack

I would’ve kept Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup at LF. You gotta keep hot soup going everyday until it cools off. Okay i guess i’m going a little overboard haha.

  • Peter S

Have you ever been interviewed by the Pope?

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

I’d rather have Profar. Much more potential. A good blend of speed, power and defense who looked primed for a big year until he got hurt.

  • Jack

Do you know what the Mets are gonna do with Satin? I think they should demote him to triple A just to get him ABs.

  • Taskmaster4450

There is a shock…him going after the Mets.

  • Helloboy

i can give you seven and a half million reasons why he can’t fully displace him.

  • JOHNNY P

The Mets would never give out free soup with there budget

  • Peter S

My brother put it best to me the other day. David Wright is Derek Jeter on the Yankees. But with the Mets, he gets killed.

  • Anthony

There is alot to kill the mets about but campbell?

  • BCleveland3381

Fatso doesn’t know any more about baseball than any of his listeners. If he tried to talk seriously he would be outwitted by his own callers. So he says things that will incite a fanbase. He’s just a “shock jock” sports radio guy.

  • Frank Francisco

Satin is still on the roster?

  • AlexHZ

He’s been in Triple A for a bit now

  • Jack

What? He only played in the majors for not even a month and he is lighting it up.

  • Anthony

He must of missed his catch last night

  • Helloboy

I can say the same thing for half of the yankee relievers.

  • Jack

Oh thank you. Sorry for some reason i must have missed that. Must have demoted him near the yankee series cause i was away.

  • Peter S

I guess Eric Campbell didn’t get the memo from the #freelagares #freewilmer supporters. If you play well, you need a day off to think and soak it up. Plus TC said he needs to get him in, which is basically like Michael telling Fredo he loves him.

  • Frank Francisco

Good, Chris Young is in the spot where he will kill the most rallies. That means when he fails, Terry will be criticized by media.

I like when Terry gets criticized and gets all pissy. Makes me happy inside.

  • Taskmaster4450

    Look at the source.

I am not about to try to follow the logic of that guy.

Plus always remember, he is a Yankee lover to the max.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    lol…i thought you were joking

  • Jack

I have a good feeling Campbell will play some games at 1st with Duda of course but he is playing in a far better level then the Youngs’ and Campbell should play LF as of now.

  • Taskmaster4450

It is safe to say that there is a platoon at 1B just like with Satin.

Campbell will face most of the lefties.

  • Frank Francisco

Campbell > Duda = Eric Young > CY

    Naturally, Terry starts CY.

  • Jack

Lol you should never a judge a guy if he has never played that spot before. Never Judge a book by it’s cover! Come on Mike

  • HawkZon

    LOL, that’s about right!

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

    I seriously forgot about Satin.

  • Jack

I wish I was hahaha, when did they demote him.

  • HawkZon

What the heck is he saying about Campbell?

  • Anthony

He has over a 100 game at the position in the minors

  • HawkZon

He sure does despise his callers.

  • Taskmaster4450

Campbell has 25 ABs in the majors. Give him some time before proclaiming that he is so worthy of a starting position.

And EY is not better than CY…not by a long shot.

  • Destry

    When Campbell came up

  • Jack

Yep. Wally told Terry that Campbell can definitely play that position. Glad Terry did his Homework like he said.

  • Jack

    Oh! 😀

  • Destry

Campbell hasn’t really hit Rhp at all. He’s crushed lefties though

  • Anthony

    Defensively

  • Jack

I’ll be happy with that. I haven’t really been looking into it but how has Duda fared this season with lefties?

  • EY + CY = OY! (Meant to respond to original comment)

  • Taskmaster4450

Why does Collins insist on hitting Granderson and CY back to back?

They need to be split up in the order.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

I can’t wait to see Goldschmidt tonight.

  • LastSaneMetsFan

Except TC is Fredo and we need a Michael.

  • Bail4Nails

I can’t wait to see what PTBNL we get for Chris Young! I’m so glad we’re playing him at the expense of the red hot Campbell.

  • Taskmaster4450

If Collins was smart, which he isnt, he wouldnt pitch to Goldschmidt all weekend.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Francessa is an insane blowhard, if you want to criticize anything Mets right now there is a buffet spread of things to choose from.

If he wants to rip an Eric that shouldnt be in the OF it should be Eric Young Jr.

  • Kevin H

The problem is most of those hits do not come during critical ABs.

  • Anthony

Cy is due a four year extension

  • Bail4Nails

    Vs. RHP
    Campbell – .200 (10 ABs)
    CY – .222 (81 ABs)

    Not much difference

  • Bail4Nails

He can play with Tejada on Terry’s Backyard Baseball team next summer.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Seems like Braun hasnt been able to stay healthy since Bosch stopped shooting ROID needles in his buttocks.

I miss A-Rod…Loved hearing about all the headaches he was giving the Stankees lol

  • Metropolitan

Next season the Yankees will have that headache back..

  • Metropolitan

    Forgot all about the PTBNL

  • Bail4Nails

I’m so glad we didn’t sign any of those ROID Headaches.
    So, who’s Pitching tonight?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Wish Terry-ble wouldve switched Flores with CY in this lineup

  • Bail4Nails

I think that was their intention.

  • No, never. I was a guest once of Jody McDonald and Richard Neer.

  • Taskmaster4450

The difference is the Met roidheads owned up to what they did and took their suspensions.

It was Braun and ARoid who turned it into a circus.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

Flores should be batting 2nd, with Murph 3rd, Wright 5th, and CY 7th.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

I get that Campbell hasn’t had enough ABs to play everyday, but do ya have to bat CY 5TH in the order? C’mon Terry!

  • Flores looks like a solid two hitter type right now.

  • Haven’t seen you around in a while Hitman, hope all is well…..

  • Destry

No I agree over CY, but not over Duda. Duda has hit RHP very well, and CY has been promised playing time. Campbell should always be in vs LHP

  • Those headaches he was giving them were very enjoyable. LOL

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

What a coincidence so did Sandy

FYI That was Sandys plan, that everyone forgot about it when the time came…it will go under the radar when they finally reveal who he is.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

Huh? I’m always around Joe. BTW, did you ever get my mailbag email from a few weeks ago?

  • Destry

Not good vs Lhp. Pretty good vs RHP. Leads team in HR rbis vs RHP

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

I said from the moment he was called up that Flores should be batting 3rd the way he was swinging in Vegas. However, with Murphy being our best bat right now, 2nd is close enough.

  • Bobby V. said the same on SNY last time he was on the post game.

  • Next time Bobby Valentine is on the Mets post game on SNY, listen to how often he takes diggs at Terry Collins.

  • Andrew Herbst

    Yep. Unfortunately that’s the reason.

  • billpulsipher

DFA C Young already. he’s garbage..Valverde closer for tonight lol

  • Anthony

Id give campbell some looks against righties give him a better sample ten abs isnt much to base it on

  • Not that I recall… I guess I’m not used to your Disqus id yet my friend.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Francesa has said a lot of things over the years that I don’t get. However, it all starts making sense after you realized that he is just talking out of his A$$.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

Last time Valverde had a closing opportunity, wasn’t it against Arizona where he gave up two HRs before settling down? This is gonna be VERY interesting.

  • It’s supposed to be a cold night. I think we need some SOOOOOOOUUUUP!

  • Yup

  • NewYorkMammoths
  • Anthony

Soup is playing well an brings some enthusiasm. I would run him out there again tonight

  • Bail4Nails

What bothers me about the Ike Davis saga, is that Sandy has learned NOTHING from it. We are doing the same exact thing with Chris Young right now. CY has proven in a month and a half, that he is not that good. Are we really going to keep playing him at the expense of other young guys? Even if he goes on fire until the Deadline, his numbers won’t be that good, and we won’t get any good Prospects for him.
    Get ready for another PTBNL.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Leave it to Terry. Even when he plays most of the right guys he bats them in the wrong order. No way CY should be in an RBI spot. Flores has demonstrated already that he can make better contact, so he should be in position to drive in a run with a grounder or sac fly, not after someone else has already made the 2nd out. Plus, as mentioned, having the 2 big strikeout guys back to back is a huge error all by itself. Gotta get some signatures on that petition already!

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Conversely, if the Mets don’t win at least 4 of the next 6, you pretty much can stick a fork in the rest of the season.

  • I love the idea of Flores, but 3rd is a bit much for a kid in his first few weeks.
But if it’s a choice between seeing him bat 3rd or ride the pines, put him in the 3-hole.

  • KennyandtheMets

Well, they do need to bring Mejia along gradually. He has pitched two straight nights.

  • beers22

loving the Flores love. CY needs to do something productive tonight.

  • Metfan9876

Or maybe the best player available to the Mets was a 2013 Draft Pick and they had no choice but to wait it out?

  • Here’s the HUGE difference with this offense:
Campbell does make productive outs, even when he’s overmatched. CY/EY never ever make a productive out. They just can’t hit behind a runner or slap a lazy fly ball to Center when a guy is on 3rd with 1 out.

  • Anthony

Bobby could actually manage not surprising

  • 2rings

with these players, line up should be:
Lagares, Granderson, Wright, Murphy,Flores, Duda, CY, Centero and then Colon

  • MetsfanInParadise

    So would everyone but Terry

  • True on both fronts.
EY/CY are both flawed players, but CY is better defensively and can occasionally crush a mistake. EY has half of one tool.
    1.5 tools beats .5 tools.

  • LastSaneMetsFan

    Don’t worry he’ll be back.

  • He’s actually slightly higher BA vs. lefties, but no HR & 2 RBI.
Vs. righties, All of his HRs and RBIs, and Walks.
His OPS vs. Righties is WAY higher.

  • T Boogy

I’m willing to give CY another week or so because he provides much needed power. But if he doesn’t shape up then TC is going to put EY back at leadoff and Lagares in the 5 hole, which I think is our best possible lineup.

  • QueensRussell

Valverde should be referred to as the door jamb.

  • Metfan9876

I agree. Although, Profar is hurt right now and they may be unwilling to move him currently.

  • Anthony

Terry didnt say valverde is closing i hope

  • I would flip CY with Flores. Soup should also be playing. Terry is the worst manager in baseball, completely blind and just beffudled by what works and what doesn’t.

  • WillisReid

This is the kind of pitcher the Mets make look like an All Star.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

They’ll move him for the right price. If it wanted Wheeler for Profar, done deal.

  • WillisReid

And he’s actually made an offensive contribution in the last week, unlike CY.

The more important question is, why does our GM sign guys with “HR Potential” when we play in CitiField? Why not sign guys with “High Average Potential” instead? CY was a bad sign.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Our next 14 games are against teams which have lower winning pcts than we do as of today (Phila by .002). I think a reasonable goal is to go 9-5 and be back at .500 by June 5th.

  • mets4lyfe

Chris Young has never been a middle of the order hitter in his MLB career. It’s no surprise Collins sees him as one.

  • Metfan9876

Actually, he really hasn’t. The only good part about him defensively is his plus arm.

  • MetsfanInParadise

I wish a different train would hit him

  • E1Guapo

Oh please let the D-backs be the “slump buster” that the Metsies need. LGM!

  • WilponsNeed2Go

    It begins….

  • MetsfanInParadise

    1. We’re 4 games under and that’s a net of only +3. 2. There a 5-games set in there with the Phils before we go to Chicago

  • MetsfanInParadise

I just wish Flores was batting 5th. CY is a rally killer. We need someone in that slot who can drive in a run, either with a hit or a productive out. CY has 0 sac flies this year. Campbell is already tied for the club lead with 2, by the way

  • Cuz chicks dig the long ball (Wink)

  • Ryan Bauman

No mex tonight thank god we should keep it gary and ron all year long

  • E1Guapo

    I’d make that switch too

  • Anthony

I got my lucky tigers shirt on a guaranteed win tonight

  • Waz0787

Anderson dude will throw a gem against the mets tonight.

  • Metfan9876

Off topic, but Joe, do you think that if Nimmo continues to keep playing well that he will be promoted to AA sometime in late June/early July?

  • Waz0787

    4-10 sounds realistic

  • E1Guapo

Dude, go watch wheel of fortune. Pessimism can’t start until the first out

  • WilponsNeed2Go

If the Mets cant go 9-5 over the next 14 games, you can stick a fork in the rest of the season.

  • Metfan9876

I would do that deal, but I doubt they want Wheeler for him.

  • Captain America

So if they do better than 4-10 you will leave us the next 14 games?

  • Chris H

Would you include Juan Lagares in a trade for Stanton?

  • MetsfanInParadise

Bummer-he usually gets here much later. Gonna be collapsing a lot of comments tonight

  • Waz0787

    Colon is getting shelled tonight.

  • Anthony

Better never than late as my teacher used to say

  • Chris H

Kirk is on his way out lol

  • Ryan Bauman

Colon no back to back quality starts in may in his career there’s a first for everything

  • Waz0787

    Lol u r funny

  • Ryan Bauman

Yeah he’s worth more you wouldn’t have to give as much up

  • Waz0787

    Yes

  • gracias

  • Manager of The Year

Owings > Gregorius IMO if we were to trade for one

  • Chris H

    True

  • no juan player is going to be enough.

You would have to include me to seal the deal.

  • bspo1

    alright, alright.

  • Anthony

Colon has the eye of the tiger

  • BCleveland3381

Owings would cost more as well, because Gregorius is basically a light hitting, defense first SS.

  • Waz0787

Noah, montero and TDA for goldschmidt

  • Chris H

Even getting Stanton it would still be hard to give up Juan.lol

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

    Colon is painting!

Colon is the type of pitcher that would give the Mets fits…throws strike after strike. They’d be down 0-2 every AB against him.

    Hope he keeps this up.

  • BCleveland3381

D’Backs would hang up the phone laughing at Sandy if he tried to offer that for Goldschmidt.

  • in bandbox, starting every game, 4 years ago.

There’s a better chance I hit more HR this year than that fool

  • What are you trying to say about that huh ?

  • Nice start for Colon. I’d love to see him get back to last year’s form and make us all eat our words. Oh sorry, promised not to make any more Colon/eating comments.

  • MetsfanInParadise

More like a fat tabby who wants his belly scratched

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Young “shoehorned” into the lineup. Nice Dig Gary!

  • Anthony

    He was purring that inning

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

Lagares doesn’t profile as a leadoff hitter, Gary? Like EY does? EY is fast and that’s it. Lagares > EY

  • Hey I charge for translation services on the side. You trying to take away my business here.

  • Gregorius is a cooler name. Sounds like a long lost Roman god.

  • They try to make me into a leadoff hitter but they say they dont want to waste my power.

  • Hotstreak

I WOULD NOT DO IT. JUAN IS UNTOUCHABLE AND PERFECT FOR CITI FIELD.

  • Waz0787

    Booooooooooo

  • Pretty sure as a team that needs pitchers and wants more catching, they’d ask for one more piece and pull the trigger.

  • Chase Anderson should be the name of a soap opera character, not a major league pitcher. We need to crush him and send him to where he belongs.

  • T Boogy

Perhaps I should have said “potential power” but the fact remains that he had that ability. When Ike hit about .200 and hit over 30 homers a couple of years ago he was quite valuable.

  • Frank Francisco

Itd actually be somewhat fair if Goldschmidt wasn’t signed to that Team friendly contract.

  • Andrew Herbst

I love how Colon painted the corners in the first.

  • Metfan9876

Goldschmidt isn’t going anywhere for now, unfortunately 🙁

  • Hotstreak

I guess they do not dig DW anymore. (Wink)

  • MetsfanInParadise

We need to chase Anderson back to where he belongs

  • Ok mi gente, I’m back in the dugout.

How do you think I did ?

  • BCleveland3381

For Goldy? A proven MVP caliber MLB player on a team friendly contract through 2019? And we give up no one proven. It would cost a fortune to get him. Not 3 unproven guys.

  • Anthony

The kid throws strikes looks like trouble

  • Frank Francisco

Lagares doesn’t really have the OBP nor speed that you usually want. He profiles as a spectacular 2 hitter.

He’s obviously better than EY though that’s not a question.

  • He doesn’t but that doesn’t mean that he’s not our best option given what we have.

  • Waz0787

    Coropal single

  • No Juan is untouchable.

    Including me.

  • Ryan Bauman

I hear you wouldn’t be my first choice but Stanton solid defensively and can hit 30homeruns +at citi field love jaun but if it him or Stanton I’m going Stanton

  • Some serious thunder here in the suburbs of Northern NJ. May be trouble ahead.

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Got his first-inning single out of the way.

  • Waz0787

Wright all he does is hit singles when om one om base. You bum u don’t get paid 20 mil to hit singles smh.

  • Anthony

A tornado touched down here in ct

  • This is getting really annoying but maybe it’s just me.

  • David is trying to copy me now.

  • E1Guapo

    Sharknado here is LA…

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Heyyyyy

  • that was my god of thunder, I have summoned for this evening.

    Jobu will speak soon.

  • Waz0787

    They’re fun

  • nope.

  • I’m sorry.

Sandy said that if I want to keep playing, I need to connect with the fanbase.

    #BlameSandy

  • Waz0787

    Smh at colon.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

So when “you” get sent down to AAA in three days, will you stop posting here and post on the 51s fansite.

  • MetsfanInParadise

“when om one om base” What language you talkin, dude?

  • To me, it’s like those 4 minute SNL skits that go on for 3 minutes and 45 seconds too long. Free country though so all good.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    TGTNH

  • MetsfanInParadise

As much as he can “mustard”

  • Terry said the only way I get sent down to AAA is if I go into a horrific slump, like TDA.

TDA will be rehabbing his swi..I mean his health in Vegas til September.

  • That’s special meditation lingo. Ommmmm.

  • Anthony

    Cheap shot

  • Doesn’t matter, they might take that risk to get 3 potentially useful players, including Noah, who is looking better than Bradley at this point.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Terry says a lot of things that don’t make sense…

  • Ryan Bauman

    And the game is over

  • Arjun Vidudala

    homerun so fast smh

  • Chris H

Colon gave up an HR no wayyyyyyyy

  • Lagares wondered why he (CY) didn’t jump.

  • HarveyKsYou

    Fat slob.

  • Frank Francisco

Lol at everyone who got excited over Colon’s one good inning.

  • HawkZon

    CY doesn’t jump.

  • 2rings

if CY does not give up for no reason, he might have caught that

  • Waz0787

Lol. He was posting in spanish before. Hard to understand but yeah won’t lie it’s getting annoying.

  • HarveyKsYou

CY is done. He isn’t a good fielder no more.

  • Anthony

I was thinking the same thing.

  • Tommy

GOD Colon stinks! Why did they sign him? They knew they had all this young pitching!

  • Frank Francisco

I’m listening on radio… Did CY really just give up on it?

  • Chris H

Mets this isn’t the same team that you swept earlier they are still bad but better bad. Let’s go

  • MetsfanInParadise

It’s not just you, Ronnie. Their balls just make it, ours die on the warning track. It’s a fact of life

  • Hotstreak

CY and Colon: Dynamic duo. Is it just me or does SA SUCK big time. sET YOU SIGHTS LOWER. yeah.

  • Waz0787

All the sandy lovers where are you? Colon was done.. Mets gave him a 2 year deals

  • donobrien

Damn those thin air HRs at Mile High Denver…… ugh no, my mistake, this is Citi Field.

  • HarveyKsYou

You know what’s funny is on every NL team there are players who KILL the mets… Yet we don’t have any players who kill any specific team.

  • As the season goes on, it would be funny if Ron and Gary start wearing darker and darker suits as they move slowly toward the Mets death and their black suits.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    …Mets go

  • 2rings

    yes completely

  • Yes.

  • Waz0787

Full of drugs don’t forget that part

  • MetsfanInParadise

And the other team ALWAYS manages to check their swings

  • Centeno, who is 3-for-10 with a walk in three games, has been “fine,” in Collins’ eyes.

“He’s handled the bat good. He’s a defensive little guy,” Collins said. “He’s lived up to everything we’ve seen in the past. He’s not a big power guy, but he puts the bat on the wall. He’s done fine.”

    Terry Collins – 5-21-2014

See, at least SOMEBODY still loves me…

  • Ryan Bauman

    He had no shot

  • AJF

Did they have to give this guy 2 yrs!!

  • MetsfanInParadise

That’s what I thought. It bounced behind the railing. Plenty of reasons to get on him without making them up

  • Waz0787

Boooooooooo at colon. You heard me captain america and destry.

  • We also have guys that kill the Mets.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

The ironic thing is that defense, the very thing Centeno was supposed be great at, is actually he’s biggest liability so far.

  • Tommy

And they were reluctant to give Hughes a multi-year deal?!

  • bspo1

    Wright kills Kimbrel

  • Chris H

Since he’s a fill in for Harvey I don’t see why they didn’t offer him a 1 year deal but he wouldn’t have taken it someone else would have gave him 2. Just hope we can trade him at the deadline

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Grandy is the one, who has problems with boo-byrds, DW just doesn’t want you to make fat jokes.

  • mr. belvedere

oh yeah that would high comedy there…I’d be slapping my knees non stop

  • Actually it bounced through toward the bottom of the railing. One can argue either way but Lagares would have jumped. I agree that perhaps that’s not enough to implicate CY on this one.

  • BCleveland3381

I don’t know man, I think you’re overvaluing our prospects. Goldy is already a top 5 hitter in baseball. No way you let him go unless you get an elite player back or absolutely rob someone’s farm system. You’d have to include Lagares if you wanted Goldy.

  • Chris H

    Chris Young uhhhhhggggg

  • Ryan Bauman

Chris young the walking strike out

  • That sounds like an oxymoron.

  • Kevin H

Nasty storm blowing through Hoboken right now. If it’s heading towards Queens, this game is going to be delayed for a while.

  • donobrien

I knew he could get on base.

  • get ready for this…

  • E1Guapo

What’s the intel on MdD? Has he turned it on in Vegas to be a viable 4th outfielder replacement?

  • wow, right over the middle, strike one.

lucas is doing a great job.

  • Chris H

I don’t hate Ike but I sure hope he flops in his return to citi and Duda better have good numbers this coming series

  • Wright kills the Mets after the 7th inning.

  • Ryan Bauman

    Haha i guess it is

  • 2rings

    he is SUCH A BUM

  • Nice Lucas.

  • BarnRat

I’m actually on the Hudson at the moment and it looks like the apocalypse

  • Flores for the RBI.

  • Chris H

Lucas just doesn’t seem like he’s ready to hit sometimes wtf

  • 2rings

    he is garbage

  • donobrien

I wish we had Soup and Duda in a row. Two big oak trees,

  • wow, strike 1 and strike 3 in the same exact spot.

the sweet spot for any left-handed batter…

i pray that this chump throws it to me there…

i will deposit it right over the 1st baseman’s head.

  • HarveyKsYou

That graphic they showed on Duda was really for Murphy.

  • bspo1

Duda watches more hittable pitches than anyone.

  • BCleveland3381

Duda is worthless. 4 years of experience and no improvement.

  • Tommy

Which is why all that B.S. that the Mets hate Citi is a joke! So many players of opposing teams hit great & hit lots of HR in Citi, so that excuse just doesn’t fly!

  • in 2 games.

but let’s not rush to judgement on TDA b/c its too early ( after 60 games)

  • IndianaMet

This is a raucous crowd at Citi tonight!

    Edit: depressed crowd. Stupid autocorrect.

  • Tommy

    And Campell rides the pine!

  • Manager of The Year

    #CallUpDykstra

  • actually its the opposite of improvement…

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

They always want pitching, especially since they just lost Perez for the year, but they’ll probably want d’Arnaud too.

  • Tommy Med

now that tejada is hopefully benched for good. Duda is the worst hitter in this lineup

  • Fighting off lots of pitches. Duda would have struck out 4 times by now.

  • I take it back. He sucks.

  • HarveyKsYou

    Was that Jason Bay?

  • WilponsNeed2Go

    No, Jason Bay bats 4th.

  • Fawck, i was so ready to hit a seeing eye single …

  • E1Guapo

It wasn’t a Canadian with a slapshot to the shortstop on an outside pitch..

  • My phone was just beeping some very scary beeps due to a flood alert in the area. Same storm will hit Citi at some point. Get ready for a long night unless they call it quickly.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

I disagree with Ronnie. Flores is a #2 guy (#3 when his power develops).

  • HarveyKsYou

I only said that because their swings are almost identical and Bay as a met made those DP to the 3B famous.

  • 2rings

You knew after the praise TC heaped on Campbell last night, that he ABSOLUTELY would NOT play tonight.. And if he is sitting for the Frontier league first baseman, or the bum in left that did not even bother to jump for the homerun last inning, then TC needs to be relieved of his duties. Not after the game, but right now

  • Tommy

And they tried to bring people in w/ the % off each tix due to Met pitchers K’ing a certain amount of hitters! That still didn’t work! They just don’t realize that winning brings people to the park! Period!

  • The Dominican Rush Limbaugh?

  • PessiMets

The mets $82 million payroll is not necessarily the problem. The problem is that only 4 guys make up 62% of that payroll. Not going to have a good team like that

  • 2rings

yeah, getting real dark by me as well

  • Never mind, I guess. According to forecast little chance of rain there until 10 or so.

  • Hotstreak

An ideal #2 guy is DW right now.

  • IndianaMet

Colon keeps throwing 89 mph fastballs right down the middle. As soon as the DBacks stop laughing’ they’re gonna pound it. And THEY are the worst team in the NL……

  • PessiMets

Once I started the seeing the praise today for soup I also thought there is no way he plays

  • E1Guapo

So how many Banner Day banners will be DQed because of anti Wilpon statements?

  • HarveyKsYou

Remember the night that the hurricane was supposed to hit NYC in 2011? Chris Capuano threw a one hit shutout against the braves with 13 Ks.

  • 2rings

I am in the minority, but I would put Grandy in the 2 hole, leave wright at 3, and move murph to 4

  • Hotstreak

    I respectively disagree.:-)

  • Metfan9876

Hopefully we can continue to get rid of the dead weight, call up more young guys, develop a few solid position players ( Nimmo, Herrera, Smith, ect. are potential guys that can one day be solid major leaguers ), and make a smart trade or two.

  • Bail4Nails

Who is better, Wilmer Flores or Didi Gregorius?

  • I feel bad for the woman sitting all alone behind home plate in like the 5th row. My wife and daughter are out at a party and my sons are gone for a while but I suppose I’d get in trouble if I drove over to help her out.

  • 2rings

    all

  • donobrien

    Yes Yes Yes and Certainly!

  • E1Guapo

    Jeff’s Webelo troop’s banner wil be allowed…

  • Somebody should start a campaign to get a $hitload of Sell the Team and Fire Terry banners if they haven’t already.

  • 2rings

and that is what this forum should be all about..thanks

  • goorru

no doubt that when Lucas gets away from the philosophy he is going to hit 30 home runs

  • WilponsNeed2Go

speaking of seeing eye, did you see that runner?

  • Chris H

Goldschmidt would look good as a met lol

  • TheMetsMachine

    Flores

  • Much too early to say.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Colon off the mound like a cat to cover first

  • 2rings

maybe for the LI Ducks or the NJ Jackals,or the St.Paul Saints, but not in MLB

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Rain delay coming

  • IndianaMet

You’d def get busted as there is NOBODY to shield you or provide cover in any of the delta club seats. Apparently tonight is “Everyone gets a foul ball” night.

  • mr mojo risin

    whoa, Centeno looks like he’s 15 … I mean 11

  • 2rings

    2 outs

  • bspo1

this guy is a CY candidate right?

  • I get it from my momma

  • mr mojo risin

get what ? breastfed ? lmao

  • i had jabba the hut blocking my view

  • no, thats what ur momma’s for.

  • After an employee checks the spelling.

  • mr mojo risin

sooo, I was just thinking how this offense is holding up their end of the bargain tonight

  • Kevin H

After tonight up until the first inning of his next start.

  • mr mojo risin

shouldn’t you be putting on your gear ?

  • who drafted campbell ?

  • donobrien

    LOL

  • Hotstreak

    so would Jose’ Aberu.

  • Met lifer

    Didi defense……..Flores offense

  • Chris H

Rather have PG better defensively and puts up monster numbers

  • Kevin H

We sign new dead wait faster than we get rid of it. Why is C Young on this team again? We needed to give Colon how many years?

  • This Steve Gelbs dude must be psyched as he may be able to step in when Burkhardt is gone next year.

  • Chris H

Steve Gelbs Kevin B just called said hell be there in 5 minutes. You can leave bud thanks

  • Manager of The Year

What do you guys think about trading. Gee for C.J. Cron on the Angels? Angels add a SP and have Weaver Wilson Gee and Ricahards. Mets make room for young arms.

  • Met lifer

Don’t care for him at all. Will miss KB

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Fans are leaving the stadium already, either the rain or the offense is sending them home early.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Prado’s teammates will probably give him a hard time because Colon beat him in a footrace

  • E1Guapo

Wilpons offered people out of their Amway contracts if they showed up at tonight’s game for 4 innings

  • Chris H

Is rather have Mayleen Remey (girl from Beer Money) do KB’s job next year then Steve Gelbs

  • Andrew Herbst

Wilmer has settled in nicely at ss.

  • Or food poisoning.

  • Waz0787

Our offense is pathetic.. If the mets and up with 1st overall pick in 2015 draft I would be happy.

  • And here we go…

  • Anthony

That stinks we were about to have a big inning

  • Chris H

The Mets will figure this guy out the 7th time around the order don’t worry lol

  • Well, time to catch up on the life of Jack Bauer. See you later, I hope.

  • Mario Gonzalez

Is Cron a 1B or 3B? I may wanna try to get a bit more for Gee.

  • Chris H

Who’s the weather man on here. How long is the rain gonna be around for?

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

American Dad during the Rain Delay? Fine by me.

  • Manager of The Year

1B yes we could get more for him

  • mr mojo risin

If TC takes a nap during the break, just let him be

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

    It should happen.

  • Joey D.

Well, I’m not that long a drive from Citi Field on the Bronx side (clear traffic, no stopping at Bridge, maybe 15 minutes tops) and it’s calm weather here. Maybe coming from north?

  • KennyandtheMets

    Big Bang Theory for me.

  • chavez06

David Dahl from Rockies? Problem is Dahl is only in A ball, but he one of the top OF prospects

  • Waz0787

    An hour

  • Manager of The Year

We have been getting this rain quite a bit in North NJ. VERY hard showers that last only 25 min tops

  • Kevin H

I still chuckle every time I think about how the Mets supposedly signed C Young because they were worried about Lagares’ offense. Too funny. Lagares’ offense could be worse than last year and it would still be better than C Young’s.

  • Waz0787

    We signed oakland athletics rejects.

  • KennyandtheMets

Hopefully for a long time. This looks like another lame offensive night for our Metsies.

  • MyasDaddy

Hey guys. At a wedding tonight. I’m gonna get blasted. So here’s to all of you watching the game tonight. This one is for you!

PS- I don’t envy you. One hit through 4..

  • KennyandtheMets

    Darn

  • Joey D.

Didn’t even know it was raining at Citi Field before the game but the lightning they showed on TV was nowhere here. They said it would be scattered.

  • Joey D.

    Hi MyasDaddy,

Let the happy couple know that it’s good luck to have rain on their wedding day. It rained our ours and that will be 38 years this coming October!

  • donobrien

    Too funny.

  • hey, just wanted to let you know that after TDA comes back, Terry wants to move me to 1B to keep my bat in the lineup.

    that is all.

  • Joey D.

    Hi Keith,

But look at the walk he drew tonight!

  • Mario Gonzalez

First, love the name!!! Second, if we’re gona trade Gee, gotta look at the Rangers. Sardinas and/or Odor. Profar going down may make that trade a bit more difficult but they need pitching bad. They may want Duda as well.

  • Joey D.

Yup, and Lucas moves to left field. 🙂

  • MyasDaddy

Amen Joey. God bless you and your lovely wife. Actually it’s my girlfriends family. So…that means I’m going to tip a few back.

  • Kevin H

    That’s an expensive walk.

  • Joey D.

When the cameras first started showing the rain coming down and people heading for cover, know what my first reaction was? “Look at all those hundreds of people trying to get out of the rain!”.

  • Chris H

LaRussa is in charge of the DBacks and is friends with SA from Oakland days now Sandy work out a deal for Paul Goldschmidt. Just worry Larussa is smarter then SA lol

  • tacknaf

    drink one for me
    make that two

  • Joey D.

    Hi Brian,

Forrest Gump is smarter than Sandy is.

  • Bail4Nails

I’m having trouble dealing with the arguments against Campbell- “a career Quad A player”, “he hasn’t had enough ABs to merit a Starting job yet”.
The Mets have done this same routine with Lagares and Flores. All these prognosticators decide these Players’ future before they even get started. Meanwhile, guys like Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada, and Chris Young get big chunks of Losing Seasons to prove they’re not that good.
Yes, Campbell has only had 25 ABs, but he Hit the Ball! Yes, he’s only played a few Games at 1B and LF, but he played well. And sure, he could turn out to be another Kirk Newenhuis.
But if the Mets are going to Lose anyway, put the Kids in the Lineup everyday, until they PROVE they are not a Starter.

  • Mario Gonzalez

Then that falls DIRECTLY on Richie 4-12-2. He’s speaks about payroll concentration yet he’s signed 3 of the 4 guys that have taken up this much if the payroll. I’ll not count Wright as everybody states that this was the doing of Jeffy Boy!!

  • Joey D.

    Thanks MyasDaddy,

Just drive carefully if you get caught in any of those rain showers.

  • E1Guapo

Because the FO is trying to come up with a new advanced stat and “hitting philosophy” so they can once again claim to be the smartest kids in the room

  • KennyandtheMets

Maybe he will dream that Cambell hits a game winning HR, wake up, and put Soup in there.

Very disappointed that Duda took a call strike 3. The pitch was right in his wheelhouse. Shades of Duda over the past few seasons. When he should have been looking to tie the game, he takes a 3rd strike that he could have crushed. I thought he had gotten over that issue.

  • Chris H

That’s why I’m worried Joey lol

  • Joey D.

    Hi Bail,

    You’re right as always.

If this was a team that was gearing itself this past winter to truly aim for 90 wins, then we could see why the kids might not get their opportunities. But this is a team gearing itself just to avoid 90 losses so of course play the kids, even those not much was expected from. Would rather see these guys since our rebuilding plan never included going after established players of value.

  • Kevin H

To quote the great Terry Collins, I say “you gotta ride that wave” while he’s hot. However, after an extended time in the bigs, I expect he will be exposed, similar to Satin, Nieuwenhuis, Brown, and all of our other AAAA players.

  • Joey D.

    Hi Kevin,

That might very well be true, but there is only one way for us to find that out instead of keeping us wondering. Right now there is no excitement in wondering if Chris Young will be able to hit above Bartolo Colon’s weight.

  • KennyandtheMets

I didn’t like the CY signing when it happened. Then he looked great in ST, so I thought, “Lets give him a chance”. At this point though, he should not be playing over Campbell. Playing him over Lagares was never a good idea.

  • Kevin H

Agreed. Ride the wave. See what we’ve got. Hopefully we’re pleasantly surprised.

  • Joey D.

    hi E1,

Yup, Sandy has to do something to move himself up from that number 23 slot. Am sure he is not sentimental about Joe Christopher’s number.

  • KennyandtheMets

I’ve watched the first 4 hours of 24. I like it! The hot actress who plays Hannah on Dexter is great on the new season.

  • Joey D.

    Hi Kevin,

But you know, we ought to make that a question. Which will be higher – Colon’s weight or CY’s batting average?

  • KennyandtheMets

Yeah. This guy is a real Bob Gibson out there.

  • Kevin H

I don’t think anyone in MLB will hit Colon’s weight. Last guy to hit .390 was George Brett.

  • Joey D.

    Hi Brian,

As Sandy would say “Stupid is as stupid does”

  • Mario Gonzalez

LaRussa and Richie 4-12-2 are not now or were ever friends. When he tried to pull that his way crap LaRussa would hear none of it and Richie 4-12-2 never dared to threaten him. Him calling LaRussa would be amusing.

  • RyanF55

It’s the end of days at Citi…finally.

  • KennyandtheMets

Did lightening strike the Big Apple??

  • Bail4Nails

The irony is that “the masters of Sabremetrics” will ultimately Kill Sabremetrics with the stats they create with the Mets.
Though I’m sure Sandy will come up with some BS excuse why you can’t trust his own Mets stats.

  • donobrien

I agree with you. Play Campbell with the hot bat and good defense. But I can guess why they have CY in left. Big salary and no trade unless CY gets better numbers. It’s business, not baseball.

  • Taskmaster4450

    That is a mature statement.

I am curious how many people on here went to an Ivy League school?

  • Joey D.

    Hi Kevin,

LOL, didn’t know Colon had been dieting.

  • BCleveland3381

Some players are big time prospects that are deemed MLB ready by their management and given starting jobs out of AAA. Then there are less heralded guys like Campbell that need to earn their starting jobs by producing in the time they get. Right or wrong, he’ll need to prove himself in his part time position. So far, so good. If he keeps hitting, he’ll get his full time opportunity.

  • Joey D.

Lightning is around us now but no rain yet. Perhaps it will soon move away from Citi field.

  • HawkZon

    That’s easy, Colon’s weight.

  • Anthony

Let’s hope the kid Anderson can’t come back to pitch

  • BarnRat

Wouldn’t it look more impressive if their proprietary stat was Outs-per-Bases… At least the numbers would be bigger

  • Bail4Nails

You’re right. But it’s like losing in Poker. Sooner or later Sandy has to realize CY is not a winning hand, fold, and cut his Losses. Call up teams, and say, “Hey, what can you give me for a 4th Outfielder?”

  • MyasDaddy

Not driving tonight my friend. LGM

  • Kevin H

    Finally…too funny.

  • Mario Gonzalez

So I guess all Ivy League grads are brilliant? I had several commanders in the Army who were Ivy league grads. Not very smart people. Being a grad from an Ivy league doesn’t equate with being smart.

  • Kevin H

Any of you guys have the channel Destination America? There is a show on right now called Mountain Monsters. Absolutely hilarious. It is on again at 9. I may not go back to the Mets game.

  • Bail4Nails

What about killing his momentum, like they did with Lagares? By playing Campbell sporadically, they are setting him up to fail. Why not wait until he slumps to stick him on the bench?

  • mr mojo risin

I know, I wasn’t surprised, but then you see Flores up with 2 strikes and he at least tries to foul it off if its close and not sure if its a ball/strike

  • Chris H

No they are actually are friends

  • Hotstreak

I lost my temper with a guy who said although he is not a SA supporter at least something like “Yeah at least we have a farm”. By ratings of farm systems that is true.

Here is why that argument is a trigger for me which now I have a chance to control my emotions.

Prospects are a promiswsory note which can defaut. They are not a cancelled check that paid off.

SA built farm by draft picks from losing seasons.

SA built a farm in Beltran and Dickey deals. He sacrificed or emasculated the team to do that.

If he handled rebuilding properly trading Wright and Reyes both in their absolute prime when he came here (to cut payroll) we could have gotten damn good prospects helping us now. Wthout Wright’s salary we could have gone after Jose’ Aberu. Wright is making 25% of payroll.

In the end this is a results business. Yes rebuiling if done properly would have been fine. But under SA we neither contended or rebuilt.

“At least we have a farm” does not cut it with me. That is disparaging the guy who got us Harvey, Lagares, Flores and Mejia. It is overlooking Niese, Gee and Murphy.

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Given the $7.5M investment, I can see him giving playing time to CY up to the waiver deadline if necessary.

    #GGEG

  • Mario Gonzalez

Didn’t know that. I figured since he refused to “conform” to Richie 4-12-2’s way of baseball that there was no love lost there.

  • mr mojo risin

I like these Reds vs Cardinals games, they are always intense

  • BarnRat

Unfortunately, his value may be at its high water mark when he doesn’t play and people can speculate about what if he did

  • KennyandtheMets

I was surprised, only because Lucas has been much more aggressive with runners on this season.

  • BCleveland3381

Im not sure I buy that they’ll “kill his momentum”. I think if the guy can hit, he’ll hit. I agree that I would be starting him over CY right now, but I think sometimes we forget how long of a season baseball really is. Over a 162 game season, I think us fans overanalyze one, two, and even a week’s worth of games.

Lets see where Campbell’s production and playing time stand after a month in the bigs. He should start against every lefty over Duda and spell Grandy, CY, Wright, and Murphy whenever any of them need a day off and earn starting time at 1B or in the OF if he produces. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

  • donobrien

Joey D, Hang in there, my friend, and many, many more years to come. The Frau and I will be married 54 years next August. Stay active and enjoy life. I gave up competitive Over 60 Softball at 70 yrs old. I should have gotten the knee scoped, but I didn’t have time for the rehab. BTW, I played with the kids ’till I hit 60, and the crazy senior team was more gung ho than than the 20 and 30 year olds. The Boys of Summer.

  • Out of place Met fan

Its also an echo of what fans said last season regarding Satin

  • mr mojo risin

true he has, but I guess I’ve just never seen an entire team go down looking so often

  • burnindaylight

Thanks, I’ve got to check that out.. had enough cartoons! Looks like Moonshiners with a different theme. I hope it’s as funny!

  • donobrien

    LOL

  • MetsfanInParadise

    proof: George W Bush

  • Chris H

They worked great together when Haas owned the A’s and they spent like a big time team with a ton a of talent. Once Haas sold the money stopped and SA had to be money ball and LaRussa didn’t want part of it. They remained good friends though

  • Kevin H

To be fair, if we had a payroll similar to the Minaya years, we would have a rebuilt farm AND a competitive MLB team. Unfortunately we’ve gone from a top 5 payroll to 25th. Alderson has made some big mistakes with the expenditures he’s made (see C Young, Francisco, Carrasco, etc) but it’s easier to survive those mistakes when you have more money to spend.

  • Hotstreak

I have no problem with what you said.

  • donobrien

    And Barack Hussein Obama.

  • KennyandtheMets

How is the weather in Flushing?

  • Kevin H

It’s funny because of the absurdity. They are running around the woods with shotguns hunting fake monsters.

  • Russ

Has the tarp come off yet? Are we pass the point of no return as far as the starters going back out there?

  • MyasDaddy

    You got it man

  • BCleveland3381

I wonder if the Mets will send Colon back out there. His rubber arm probably makes him more able to do it than any pitcher on the staff. I think our bullpen is actually ok in short stints, but to need them for 5 innings is asking for trouble.

  • mr mojo risin

maybe it will just continue raining until Harvey is ready to go

  • KennyandtheMets

Probably. I think anything around an hour is pretty much it.

  • Hotstreak

Furthermore, if we went over the slot in draft picks the prior regime could have got better prospects.

  • Kevin H

Fair point. That always drove me nuts. Never understood why we played by the rules when no one else did.

  • Metropolitan

so much for weather” prediction” 40% chance for scattered thunder storm turned into a two and a half hour down pour..I hope they are gonna play

  • Metropolitan

Oh they got into the 4th and we are losing…what a surprise

  • Chris H

Being a weatherman is the best job. When your wrong you still get paid and just blame it on wind shifts lol

  • burnindaylight

Funniest thing for me is between having relatives in SW PA and going to college down south I’ve known people who could easily be in this show!!

  • Chris H

Gary just said the rain is coming down harder. Great

  • Skip

That show is hilarious. Wait til you see the one where they wreak the atv chasing a sheep yeti. Still rolling over that.

  • Peter S

He probably doesn’t even acknowledge media credentials from blog sites.

  • KennyandtheMets

It’s not so bad. We are losing.

  • mr mojo risin

Billy Mays Hayes Hamilton, runs like Hayes, hits like …. Billy Mays

  • Peter S

This organization could never be confused with the corleones

  • BarnRat

But we’re getting shut-down relief from the thunder-storm!

  • Skip

Hey watch it… Im from south central PA. There is plenty of crazy rednecks around here tho.

  • Skip

Are you still there? If so what’s the weather now?

  • Metropolitan

This is not an official game maybe we are better off with a rain out

  • Metropolitan

This Colon signing is looking like a disaster,he is nowhere close to what he was for the A’s…we got tthis fat piece of sh*t for another year at 10 mil,I can see it now we can’t sign nobody next off season because of Colon

  • chavez06

So we need offense, and Puello – one of our better offensive prospects (who can actually play his position) – only plays every other day. Sure, he had a slow start and he may never become an MLB hitter, but how the heck would we know if he doesn’t play? He’s only 23 and is losing ABs to the like Branden Allen and Seratelli? This whole organization is a bunch of retards… that includes Wally.

  • Russ

They are the AAA club for future politicians of america. When they are good at consistently telling people one thing and having something completely different happen then they get pulled up to the good ol boy club.

  • i throw the long ball

  • Peter S

Don’t they use a DH in AAA at some parks?

  • Kevin H

I think I saw that one. Isn’t that the same one where the lead guy burns his eyes when he gets sheepsquatch piss in them? I’m still waiting for an episode when they actually catch one of these monsters. I think I’ll be waiting a long time.

  • Peter S

He pitched well last year because he had the offense to allow him to make mistakes. He just need to stay healthy and he will be trade by 7/31

  • MetsfanInParadise

The radar doesn’t look good. I don’t think they’re gonna resume

  • burnindaylight

LOL!! between that description and the last I’ll be seeing if I can get this on demand after the game if there is the rest of one!

  • Metropolitan

DH is used in the minors period

  • chavez06

For the same money, or slightly more, we could’ve signed Kazmir! Why do we always seems to get last year’s star?

  • Nimmofan25

Look at the ERA there weren’t many mistakes.

  • Skip

Haha. That was it. I love the video they get of the animals always blurry and barely catching the beast.

  • BarnRat

If we need to build an ark, make sure Fred and Jeff don’t know when we cast-off

  • Kevin H

They show like 5 in a row every Fri night starting at 8.

  • chavez06

Yeah, Puello is still not playing every day. Just ridiculous.

  • Nimmofan25

You mean it’s stopped since last year?

  • KennyandtheMets

    I hear you.

  • burnindaylight

I know what my TV will be on for the rest of the night minus any further baseball 🙂

A giant coyote trap no less.. wow.

  • Chris H

Did you ever think that the roids made him what he was and maybe he isn’t what he was on them ?

  • burnindaylight

And I’ve got to wonder if these “devil dogs” actually exist why would you even mess with them.. I’ve got normal bears here in NJ you’d have to hit more than a few times to take out..

  • Chris H

Chapman is throwing 102mph right now lol

  • Russ

Just went to weather.com to figure this storm out. Its 100% showers until 1 in the morning. I am pretty sure they will suspend or resume tomorrow as part of double header.

  • KennyandtheMets

One of the best lines ever Barny!!

  • Chris H

And throws a circle change at 90mph lol this guy is ridiculous

  • Skip

    Alcohol. Gotta love it…

  • chavez06

He was always a highly regarded prospect. There’s no proof he was roids last year. Biogenesis closed at the end of 2012.

  • Chris H

There’s no proof but his name was in the report lol ok if you say so.

  • Chris H

Braun never got caught either he admitted it lol

  • BarnRat

Pouring on the West Side of Manhattan, storm is tracking toward Citi

  • Hotstreak

    Resumed play in Phila.

  • Taskmaster4450

And what makes you think Jeff Wilpon would allow kazmir to come back to the Mets…so he could be reminded of the blunder trade he FORCED 10 years ago which netted the Mets..Victor Zambrano?

    It would never happen.

  • chavez06

How could he have been on roids in 2013 when Biogenesis shutdown in 2012?

  • mr mojo risin

if it was anyone else but Shane Robinson, that ball would’ve been out … well, except Tejada

  • Chris H

Just like Bonds never failed a drug test. C’mon don’t be naive. The guy did roids. He was in the report and served 50 games.

  • mr mojo risin

nope, neither that nor the losing

  • depressed Mets fan

It’s pouring here in Middle Village Queens

  • Kevin H

This episode is actually the first one I ever saw. Got me hooked. Still waiting for an episode where these fools either accidentally shoot each other or one of them gets caught in their own monster trap.

  • donobrien

If we don’t resume the game, hope you all have a great Memorial Day Weekend, and a big Welcome Home to my fellow vets.

  • Just send Jeffy off to look for 2 unicorns.

  • chavez06

Well, that’s why the Mets are the Mets. Every organization or business makes bad decisions. But the better admit it, and don’t let the past mistakes to continue to hurt them.

  • MetsfanInParadise

They won’t resume until at least 11:30, if at all.

  • Joey D.

    Hi donobrien,

Ah, 54 years and I bet you and your wonderful better half are only now starting to get the hang of it!

My wife had two knee operations and believe me, she found the rehab to not be so physically taxing nor as painful. I will say it is that way for most but not all because my cousin and a colleague at work didn’t have the same experience as Mary Jane did. Perhaps at this point you might not feel it is worth it but if you still wish to consider it, for most it isn’t the bad experience many believe it to be.

54 years – a lot has happened since the year you and your bride exchanged vows. Wonderful memories for all of us with a long list still to come.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Game looks like its gonna be rained out…

    THERE IS A GOD

  • Chris H

They should have picked one of the 1st models of Citi with a retractable roof lol

  • BarnRat

    Can unicorns play 1B?

  • Chris H

Nolan Arenado broke his finger sliding into a base

  • Bail4Nails

Is it too soon to ask what the Mets should trade for at the Deadline? Flores looks good at SS. I guess it will take a lot for Campbell to win the LF job. Puello still not lighting it up at AAA.
So, I guess we need an Outfielder who can hit for Average?

  • KennyandtheMets

    And power.

  • MLBGM Fire TC

We should of traded for upton thats what we need,

  • chavez06

Fine, let’s say he was on roids last year. Shouldn’t you still play him everyday this year?

  • MLBGM Fire TC

And no tribute to the dodgers

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

Did the game resume? I’m watching Grudge Match.

  • MLBGM Fire TC

Im sure tc will try and get them going in the line up

  • Kevin H

My favorite one is when they are hunting the mothman and that fat dude passes out and takes a face plant after seeing its eyes off in the distance.

  • BarnRat

The rain is our friend. We need about 2 years of it

  • Chris H

Not if he isn’t producing. He just started hitting a little. If he proves he can do what he did last year then yes but he isn’t

  • MLBGM Fire TC

Lolol was that the only drug dealer in town???

  • MLBGM Fire TC

I bet binds can still hit, lets sign him!

  • Chris H

And once you are a minor leaguer caught on roids you are blackballed. It isn’t the same as being caught up in the show.

  • Hotstreak

    Hi Joey D.

Michael Jordon will soon be signed at 1B but wear No. 45

  • tacknaf

    We need a 1B

  • I guess they are drawing this out so that the 34 remaining fans can continue to buy beverages and other concessions.

  • Metropolitan

    head first slide right?

  • chavez06

So, Marlon Byrd and Colon both must still be juicing. Both of those guys actually tested positive and the Mets still signed them. Even if the Mets thought Puello was juicing last year, their behavior elsewhere suggests he should be given a fair chance this year. I think this has a lot to do with Wally just playing to pad his win records because he’s so hard on for an MLB managerial job and not doing his job as player development personnel.

  • Chris H

    Yup

  • If they still like Flores they can include Murphy in a trade for a SS and move him to 2b.

  • Guest

    there was a game tonight?

  • donobrien

Hi Joey D., At 80, the knees are good enough, but I’m probably getting a second open heart surgery for a valve replacement. I got the first one in my mid-sixties and felt 20 years younger after it. I came back for 6 more years of ball playing. I hope the next one will have a similar effect. I want to see this damn team repeat the ’69 and ’86 experience.

The kids on this blog don’t realize yet how fast the years go. In my mind I’m still about 35, LOL. Then I use the mirror to shave, hahaha.

Best to you and Mary Jane.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

its Nobu night cant cancel those reservations

  • Metropolitan

that is why they don’t want guys to slide head first

  • tacknaf

I’d keep Murphy and trade one or two (even Thor) of these pitchers for a stud bat

  • Mario Gonzalez

Hard for Puello to get going when he’s some sot of ridiculous rotation with AAAA retreads.

  • chavez06

Last 10 games, he’s hitting .367 w/ 3 BBs and 3 K’s. And he’s still not getting regular playing time. That’s just ridiculous.

  • Chris H

This is Bonds was always a naturally great hitter even before roids. The guy doesn’t need roids to bat 300 he just took them for power

  • billpulsipher

rain saved them from another loss..

  • Chris H

It’s ridiculous players think sliding head 1st gets you to the bag quicker but it doesn’t. If I owned a team I would ban my players from head 1st slides lol

  • chavez06

I can’t understand it. What’s really frustrating is he’s actually doing well the last 10 games or so, and still not getting regular playing time. The whole organization is a bunch of retards.

  • BarnRat

34 was the official original attendance, so it was really about half that, and so now about 4

  • AlexHZ

    not playing tonight either

  • Chris H

Look who’s managing him. MR old school as it gets. Listen this is the price you pay for juicing early in a career. Before the last 10 games he looked like a bust this year.

  • TheMetsMachine

    has the game been called?

  • what stud bat is available that you would trade Thor for?

  • tacknaf

a 1B or corner OF. I don’t know what’s available – that’s Sandy’s job. but there will be one available. There always is. Especially if we are dangling young, cheap, good pitching

  • I think they just said it was called.

  • Mario Gonzalez

Hmmm. I think a stud bat would become available if he were made available.

  • chavez06

Correct. Wally has Brandon Allen playing 1B and Dykstra DHing. He’s trying to get as many lefty bats into line-up against a rightly starter. Wally is just looking to pad his record because he’s so hard on for an MLB job he’s forgetting his player development duties.

  • Metropolitan

    yeah

  • Who would you trade him for regardless of availability? Stanton maybe?
    It isn’t that easy.

  • Waz0787

Damn mets didn’t lose tonight. Friday night is not the same. Crap

  • tacknaf

I would trade thor for Stanton hell yes. problem is the Marlins would want more than just Thor

  • Mario Gonzalez

I think it’s partly that and the FO is saying who they want in the starting lineup. Just like in NY. Never thought Wally would succumb to this nonsense.

  • jombee227

    bah

  • Chris H

    Shops closed

  • The weather dude on channel 11 was saying he thinks it will be called and at that point the anchors confirmed that it was called.

  • Double header on Sunday at 1pm.

  • Chris H

    Double dip sunday

  • I can’t really think of a logical young stud I would trade him for?

There may be players besides Stanton that I am not thinking of?

  • This game thread is hereby called.

  • MLBGM Fire TC

    I agree, bonds was awesome

  • Mario Gonzalez

To be honest, there isn’t anyone now that would be made available even if he were made available. Everyone knows the mets need bats which puts them in a bad position. They are gonna have to go after more minor league talent in order to get the bat they need/want. Maybe look to the Dodgers for Peterson or the Cubs for Baez. Not sure the Mets can pry him away even if they offer Thor.

  • BarnRat

So why is this a single admission DH on Sunday? I’m cynical enough at this point that a 2-fer makes no sense…

  • metstastic

It is a lot easier to slide head first. You can’t change the habit. it needs to be taught more in the low minors.

  • And neither of those teams have a desire to trade those type players even for Thor.

Power hitters that are available are going to be guys like Bautista (not right now) and that’s not worth trading a top package for.

  • KennyandtheMets

I’m glad it got rained out.
If my team were up 2-0, though, I
would want the game to be started from where it left off on Sunday. It doesn’t seem fair to just start over.

  • Metropolitan

If it were the playoffs I believe they do or if the game was tied and was offical

  • chavez06

If that’s the case, FO not stepping in is fracking stupid.

  • billpulsipher

that loss was saved by the rain…Colon and the offense looked like their typical scrub selves

  • Chris H

It’s a lot easier? No it’s isn’t. 1st it’s hurts a hell of a lot more then sliding a** 1st and players actually think it’s makes them cooler. It’s just stupid and yes it should be taught a lot earlier no head 1st slides

  • billpulsipher

these two teams should play for free

  • Bobby O

Can tonite’s ticket be used to get in Sunday’s single admission DH? Not for me, for my daughter

  • KennyandtheMets

Colon gave up one HR, with a swinging bunt in front of it. He actually was pitching well.

  • Waz0787

Mets sucks. Damned the rain bailed them out.

  • Waz0787

Most probably. It’s not like any of their games are sold out

  • Captain America

No power and no speed. It’s like he is a “different” player

  • Mario Gonzalez

I agree and it begs the question as to why is Puello in some sort of a rotation with AAAA retreads?

  • Metropolitan

Colon has been horrible since he put on a Mets uniform,he has not been anywhere near what he was for the A’s ,lets leave it at that

  • Bail4Nails

Dammit Wally. I thought he’d be better than Terry at fighting FO nonsense. Starting a hot Puello would help the 51’s get Wally more Wins. I don’t get it.

  • MetsfanInParadise

There will be an announcement about refunds and rainchecks on the website. The ticket should also have the policy on the back

  • Captain America

And many teams desperately need pitching….

  • KennyandtheMets

They certainly shouldn’t let a playoff game be decided in less than 9 full frames.

  • Bobby O

Rubin mentioned something about a ticket for tonight’s game exchangeable for a future game of comparable value. Sunday day game> Friday night game. However, this game is being made up on Sunday.

  • Mario Gonzalez

I know. It doesn’t make any sense.

  • Bobby O

    TY

  • Bobby O

    Thank You

  • KennyandtheMets

I will not leave it at that. Yes, he hasn’t been very good. I agree. However, I was talking about his performance in tonight’s game. He really wasn’t pitching that bad. Anyone really paying attention to the 4 innings he threw should have noticed that.

  • Bobby O

Colon 10 HR allowed in 10 GS.

  • Bail4Nails

I don’t get the “power” thing. To me, that means Sandy will get a guy that might hit some HRs on the road, few at Citi, and Strike Out a Lot.
Guys like Lagares don’t hit a lot of HRs, but their .300 Average gives you good odds of Driving in and Scoring Runs.
You put 4 or 5 .300 Hitters in a Lineup, you are going to Score Runs, HRs or not.

  • chavez06

He had a slow start … like he did last year. But he’s batting over .350 last 10 games. Has 3 BBs and only 3 K’s. He’s 4/5 in SB’s. He’s not a ‘different’ player.

  • Mario Gonzalez

Don’t bother responding to Cap. Not sure what his deal is.

  • Mario Gonzalez

I knew someone out there realizes power is over rated. Give me contact hitters with gap power any day. Enough with the strike out artists with the promise of power.

  • That was my point that even he wasn’t likely.

  • chavez06

Yeah, bunch of people here seems to think Puello had the numbers last year only because he was juicing … see my arguments with Brian below.

  • Bail4Nails

I’d like to see Allen Dykstra first. Through 42 Games, he has 39 RBI with .297/.446/.570 slash.
All “PCL numbers” and “scout projections” aside, those numbers AT LEAST warrant a look at the ML level.

  • Most likely because they do not value him as highly as you do.

  • Joey D.

Did fans get to keep their tee-shirts?

  • BarnRat

Waz, what exactly are you rooting for? I’m curious for your happy post

  • Bail4Nails

I can’t upvote this enough. It’s like we’re speaking a different language than the FO and other Met fans. We play half our Games in Citi Field!
    Response: “But….but…Home Runs!”

  • Lol, like Alderson is telling them not to play him.

  • Bail4Nails

A few days ago, someone posted that there is an agreement in Vegas that 4 or 5 Outfielders are supposed to get an equal number of Games. Wally has to stick to that number for all the Outfielders. Normally, I wouldn’t believe it, but it was a pretty reliable Poster.

  • Fast Eddie

I know, some “fan” huh…any team would be happy to get bailed out like that.

  • do u think there is a chance david wright and his contract can be traded ?

  • Joey D.

    Hi donobrien,

Am sure the surgery will go fine.

And I was of course thinking the same thing as you. Despite the obvious wisdom we all gather over time, both my wife and still share the enthusiasm we had during our youth – even though our arthritis and need for an extra nap reminds us us of all the years that have gone by already in the times of our lives.

Wonderful picture of you and your loved one. I should get a photo of Mary Jane and I to replace the one just of myself on my profile.

Only fit I see right now moving Murph for a SS is to Chicago for Alexei Ramirez

  • Bail4Nails

I don’t know what, if anything, the St. Louis Cardinals would ever want or need from the Mets. But they have a glut of good Outfielders in AAA. Shane Robinson, Joey Butler, and Randal Girchuk are all hitting well over .300. Their Slash lines are ridiculous, no Errors, and they have higher-rated Outfield Prospects still in the Pipeline. If Sandy’s going to trade for a Prospect, St. Louis would be the ideal place to shop. I’m not sure they accept Met currency though.

  • Bail4Nails

I have been checking every AAA team for all the popular SS names I heard in the Offseason. The funny thing is, Flores is hitting better than all of them, and his Defense hasn’t been terrible either. Despite their best efforts, the Mets may have accidentally stumbled on the best-hitting SS Prospect around now (Boegarts aside). I have to see Flores play steady for another month, but we may not need to trade for a SS this year. 1B and LF seem more pressing now, IMO.

  • Mario Gonzalez

So you think Cap K, MDD and Andrew Brown all deserve AB’s over Puello?

  • mr. belvedere

do you think there’s a chance you could try to start an argument a little more?

  • There are 2 sorts of posters.

Don’t debase yourself bro. I like reading your stuff. Keeps my Pollyanna ass grounded. Him… no

  • Hotstreak

He did not have command FB which is vital to his success. When you are 3-0 in the count that happens. He would have given up more if he lasted six inings. I gurantee it would not have been a QS.

  • KennyandtheMets

Good point. I didn’t mean that power should replace average. I’d just like to have a guy with both. A legit 4th or 5th guy in a lineup.

  • KennyandtheMets

You are correct that he can’t fall behind, like he did against Hill. When he fell behind 2-0 in that at bat, I was expecting the HR. But I don’t remember him falling behind too many other hitters.

  • donobrien

Thank you, Joey. You’re so right. I say it’s a siesta, as if it’s just the normal thing everyone does, not a necessity, LOL.
My wife is Elizabeth, but she’s been called Poppy by family since childhood. She’s the real heart and soul for our large family. She’s the compass that has kept this crazy Irishman off the rocks and into port for 64 years. This is a great Mets site, kudos to Joe D. and his talened crew. I really enjoy your posts and feel fortunate to have electronic pals. Love to meet you and other MMO friends at the ball park one of these days. All the best, Don.

  • Hotstreak

Kenny I am in total agreement. The reason I implied others (I don’t know) was because he was NOT working both sides of the plate. His pitchers were in effect too good, that also is command.

I expected the HR too you can sense that when you watch enough baseball games.

  • Hotstreak

not 100% of contract but if Mets pick up 30% EACH YEAR , yes but but since a semi salary dump the prospect in return will be lucky to be in top 100.

  • Erin_II

    post less, tubby.

  • Yeah I mean, it’s not like it was 7-0 and we got bailed out! It was 2-0 and Colon WAS pitching well. Even tho I did make a comment on Twitter to the contrary I was just kidding. The Mets couldve scored some runs! Oh well double header Sun …. Can we win tonight and set up a good Sunday? Hope so.

  • KennyandtheMets

    I hope so too Josh.

Puello will be here within the next month, so I’ll be surprised to see the Mets pursue an OF.

As far as 1B goes, there’s an interesting class of 1st baseman that may hit the trade market, like Cuddyer, Craig and Adams. Adams is what I hoped Duda would’ve become, but I’m starting to see that’s not the case. Duda’s best role for this team is as a power bat off the bench.

The addition of Alexei Ramirez and moving Flores to 2B would strengthen the middle infield & would give our offense overall a jumpstart with other key additions.

    Lagares CF
    Ramirez SS
    Flores 2B
    Cuddyer 1B
    Wright 3B
    Granderson LF
    Puello RF
    d’Arnaud C

They could possibly squeak into a Wild Card with this lineup.
