Memorial Day Game Thread: Pirates vs Mets, 1:10 PM

us flag at citi

The Mets will open a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Memorial Day at Citi Field, with the first pitch at 1:10 PM. The game will be televised on SNY and broadcast on WOR.

Jacob deGrom (0-2, 2.77) will make his third start for the Mets, opposed by fellow righty Brandon Cumpton (0-1, 4.26) for the Bucs, who was just recalled from Triple-A.

DeGrom took the loss in his first two career starts despite collecting a quality start in each game. DeGrom became the second pitcher in franchise history to toss at least 6.0 innings while allowing four hits or fewer in his first two major league games.

Jenrry Mejia pitched in both ends of Sunday’s doubleheader vs. Arizona. He allowed an unearned run to suffer the loss in the first game and closed out the Mets’ 4-2 win in the second for his third save. The last Mets pitcher to have a loss and a save in a doubleheader was Jesse Orosco on August 19, 1984 at San Francisco

It will be former Met Ike Davis‘ first game in Queens since being traded on April 18. Since joining the Bucs, Davis is batting .303 in 32 games with a .395 on-base and .824 OPS in 115 plate appearances. He has lifted his season totals significantly and is now slashing at .283/.389/.424.

Starting Lineup

  1. Juan Lagares – CF
  2. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  3. David Wright – 3B
  4. Curtis Granderson – LF
  5. Bobby Abreu – RF
  6. Lucas Duda – 1B
  7. Wilmer Flores – SS
  8. Juan Centeno – C
  9. Jacob deGrom – RHP

The Mets split the doubleheader yesterday and head into a series with the Pirates today. In the first game yesterday, Montero diced up the Diamondbacks lineup but the offense couldn’t get into the game and the Mets lost in a frustrating way. In the later afternoon game, the Mets were able to pull out a win and will hopefully build off of that today with the Pirates and Ike Davis returning to town.

Jacob deGrom will make his third start of the season today. In his first two starts he has pitched 13.0 innings allowing 4 runs (2.77 ERA), 8 hits, 5 walks and 10 strikeouts. When his starts are looked at more closely, his first start was excellent, allowing one earned run over seven innings. The second start was more average allowing three earned runs over six innings. Knowing this, it makes sense that deGrom has never faced anyone in the Pirates lineup in a major league game.

The Mets bats will get a look at Brandon Cumpton who is 0-1 over two starts this season with a 4.26 ERA over 12.2 innings. Cumpton hasn’t pitched in the majors since May 1st, and was called up with Wandy Rodriguez being DFA’d earlier this week. Last year he pitched in 6 games across the season totaling 30.2 innings with a 2.05 ERA. In the minors this year he has pitched 6 games with a 1.35 ERA with a 4-1 record. He has never faced the Mets or any batter on the Mets roster.

Lets Go Mets!

  • Super T

Not sure if anyone knows – But when are we suppose to get the PTBNL from the Ike Davis deal?

  • Waz0787

    Davis > duda that scrub

  • Waz0787

    Some guy name fraizer

  • MyasDaddy

Looks like TC used his brain today when filling out the lineup card. Will he ever make any changes?!?

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    Not announced yet

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

We know how to handle Ike by now, right?
Don’t want to see anything but bent stuff outside from lefties. And anybody who gives him a fattie down and in gets permanent latrine duty in LV.

  • Waz0787

Wait rookie pitcher our offense is not scoring any runs…… but degrom my favorite met on this team is pitching so hopefully he doesn’t get the loss.

  • keith

Scrub Cowgill and Scrub Turner hit homers off of the Mets. Now its Ikes turn. Hopefully DeGrom isn’t the one to do it.

  • metsfan79

    After yhe amateur draft.

  • metsfan79

    Is cambell secretly hurt too?

  • MyasDaddy

Hey Terry. Why don’t you just quit. Are you even trying anymore? A monkey can fill out this lineup card. Why don’t you try and get this team going.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Hey we should bat Degrom in Dudas spot

  • wow..

    abreau in RF again?

against a team with mostly lefties that love to pull?

    hmm…

my guess is that degrom wont be pitching inside much if at all..

watch him stay on the outer half of the plate, only balls hit to RF will be mistakes that leak over the plate or balls punched by right handed hitters.

Lagares may shade over… which leaves a hole in LF-CF if Granderson doesnt move over too…

having a RF with no range affects what pitch u throw and where u throw it..

but Sandy thinks fielding = 5% of the game so….

  • The most athletic weatherman

A little strange to see the switch with Grandy and Abreu..Has Abreu never played Left before? Just wish Soup was in there for Duda.

  • MyasDaddy

Hey… at least your boy Centeno is playing.

  • BarnRat

    Love watching Montero and deGrom.

If deGrom can put up zeros he will position himself for his first no-decision.

  • keith

Unless he hits a homer. Not out of the question.

  • MyasDaddy

I choked on my cereal reading this…hahaha

  • mr. belvedere

Glad Abreu is in the lineup (can’t believe I just typed that)…he’s been a good hitter and tough out since he’s arrived…I don’t understand why he can’t play LF though…although I’ve thought Granderson with his weaker arm should have been playing LF all season with CY in RF

  • Andrew Herbst

I’m glad Abreu’s in lineup. Love seeing Montero and deGrom back to back.

  • MyasDaddy

    Why for Abreu?

  • Andrew Herbst

I needed a break from Chris Young.

  • Frank Francisco

LF is more range-intensive while RF is more arm-intensive.

  • Frank Francisco

Abreu is hitting .265/.350/.441 in scattered AB’s and yet he is still completely unappreciated and ridiculed with each start by the fanbase.

  • MyasDaddy

Because he is 40. Why is he here?

  • MyasDaddy

I have been off and on the last 3 games. That bad?

  • Taskmaster4450

Would you ridicule a 37 year old Beltran out there?

Not that I disagree that he should not be in the OF because he shouldnt.

  • MyasDaddy

Wow. Way to get my brain going on this one.

  • MyasDaddy

Do I have time to think about it?

  • Andrew Herbst

Yeah he’s been grounding into a lot of DP’s. And striking out.

  • MyasDaddy

No. Because of Beltran is different.

  • Metfan9876

Where is the link to the article about the whole defense thing?

  • MyasDaddy

I feel like trolling Metsblog. I wonder how Cerrone is doing with his Braun/Ike trade scenario today. This day should be known as the Metsblog/Ike day. Because both parties are awful and deserve each other.

  • MyasDaddy

He’s never looked healthy at all this season, or is it me?

  • Frank Francisco

Ike’s BA and OBP looking eerily like his 2011 breakout season pre-injury numbers… Maybe it’s true that the philosophy ruined Ike’s tenure with the Mets.

114 PA’s is no longer a tiny sample size either. No doubt in my mind that his power will soon follow. It would be far too ironic if his power resurges against the Mets.

  • Frank Francisco

His confidence has done a 180 since leaving the Mets. Not a coincidence that he’s playing better on the field.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    NO! Syndergaards on the DL.

  • Metfan9876

He just didn’t work out here and it’s unfortunate because I always liked the guy and thought he could’ve been very good for us but the inconsistency during his tenure was too worrisome to keep waiting.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

Aw, crap!! Noah to the DL, headed for NY to be examined by docs.
Sometimes you just want to eat a gun.
EDIT: Elbow pain. Where’s that gun.

  • MyasDaddy

When it rains it freakin pours.

  • Frank Francisco

How is Beltran different…? Abreu was actually a better overall hitter throughout his career…

    Beltran Career: .282/.357/.495 .852 OPS
    Abreu Career: .292/.396/.477 .873 OPS

  • Frank Francisco

Who cares if he is 40 if he is still effective?

It’d be different if he was taking away playing time from young, high-ceiling blood, but he’s not.

He’s taking time away from CY and EY (those of the sub .650 OPS’s…)

  • MyasDaddy

Come on are you really going there?

  • Frank Francisco

Wow… Thornton and the PTBNL better dazzle because if Ike goes back to what he’s capable of this will become one of the most infamous Mets trades.

  • Joe

Put Den Dekker in left and Granderson in right

  • Frank Francisco

If Syndergaard needs TJ, the fan uproar might be enough to chase SA out of office.

This is why you can’t “wait around” for prospects and star pitchers. They go down left and right. One gets healthy, another one gets knocked down. It’s completely unacceptable that the Mets pushed back the 2014 goalposts because of the Harvey injury.

  • MyasDaddy

Wow. To my surprise they are pretty similar.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    If syndergaard needs TJ….

  • not sure if i can technically link the article here…

but u can find it in moneyball.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

I have no love for Alderson, but how the hell would this be his fault?

  • Metfan9876

It’s disappointing for sure. I mean every young pitcher these days gets TJ, it’s ridiculous.

  • MyasDaddy

Re-read what he is trying to say.

  • Frank Francisco

I never claimed it was his fault. I said punting on 2014 because of the Harvey injury was a clown decision because you can’t predict injuries.

  • esp with a fully healthy and cheap RA Dickey starting to kill the AL

    7 straight quality starts…

    he’s making 12 mil this year…

meanwhile bartolo colon, 10 mil…in the NL East…in pitchers ballpark
    he has a 5.00 + ERA

travis has stunk up the yard, injured last year, injured this year…

so yeah…god forbid thor needs TJ…

folks here will be pointing to wilmer becerra as the central player in that trade just to move the goal posts

  • Frank Francisco

Lol what ever happened to becerra I haven’t heard about that kid in a while…

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

    Oh. Gotcha.

  • Frank Francisco

Yeah Abreu was/is a very underrated player.

  • LMAOOOOO

Beltran had more HR playing CF than Abreau did playing RF.

    RAA – Runs above average

    Beltran – 396
    Abreau – 302

and we wont even go into the fact that beltran lost 1.5 due to the clowns we have as owners..

  • Frank Francisco

It doesn’t really matter whose better, we can go back and forth cherry picking stats but that wasn’t even my original point.

My point is that they are both on the same level of talent, so I don’t understand why fans choose to resent Abreu so much.

  • because he’s a grotesque out of shape pinch hitter who is playing RF and starting. the guy couldnt make the phillies team out of spring training.

if Abreau is pinch-hitting, then sure, no problem.

Abreau was starting games while Lagares was riding the pine.

its nothing against Bobby. he’s a fine pinch hitter/DH

  • coyote521

Who couldnt have predicted that as soon as ike got away from bozo hudgens and the sandy alderson/ depodesta dictatorship he would become the player he used to be.

I hope ike has a great series.
Yet another blow to this awful regime.

  • mr. belvedere

probably in Brooklyn this year since he was in the GCL last year

  • AAAA/metsfan

campbell in left ,dykstra at 1st , brown lf/rf/1st. DD vegas, duda vegas.

  • Andrew Herbst

He might be hurt. It’s possible.

  • Out of place Met fan

    Maybe kingsport

  • AAAA/metsfan

yea like campbell couldn’t do that ? i don’t ridicule but he shouldn’t be starting.

  • billpulsipher

the Dickey trade looks like a real steal lol….Thor, Wheeler, Harvey..also known as Pulsipher, Isringhausen, Wilson…I hope Ike hits one 450 feet to shove it up that pig Alderson’s a*s

  • NewYorkMammoths

    I miss Trevor.

  • NewYorkMammoths

Cue “Meet the Mets” and let’s start another day of Mets baseball.

    http://i.imgur.com/0BDpt7j.gif

  • mr1313

Why does Sandy give players like Abreu to Collins it’s a habit he can’t quit he always has to play the old timers that mean nothing to this team. Play Campbell in LF and Grandy in RF. The guy should only be pinch hitting.

  • PatrickMets

    Syndergaard to DL elbow problems

  • jason bay

Letting the sands run out in the hour glass on RA would have been so typical of the Mets and what’s he got, a 5+ ERA since he went North?

You gotta get players who will be here for 9-10 years at a clip, knowing full well not everyone will.

  • MyasDaddy

My biggest problem in a nutshell. It’s why this clown as to go.

  • MyasDaddy

Still doesn’t take away the fact hat he shouldn’t be on this roster.

  • 2rings

yeah, not a good sign at all.

  • mr1313

Abreu shouldn’t be on this team. He obviously isn’t in our future plans we aren’t going to the playoffs this year why is he even here? Campbell should be in LF period. No one is disrespecting Abreu’s career but he belongs on a competing team not a rebuilding one.

  • 2rings

true, and RA cannot tear a ligament he never had

  • mr1313

    Should be Campbell.

  • Waz0787

Tda is a busts. Noah hasn’t proven anything yet in the majors. The other hasn’t even played in brooklyn yet. Hush. ALDERSON has failed us. Duda looks so goooooood and CY looks amazing out there.

  • George_Theodore

If you insist on starting Abreu, why not LF?

  • Arjun Vidudala

lol atleast abreu cant be worse than CY 😛

  • MyasDaddy

I wish we could insist on new owners and managers.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    bet?

  • MyasDaddy

Batting 4th- The First baseman, Ike Davis. Woops!! Wrong team.

  • mr1313

That’s not saying a lot; however Campbell is 13+ years younger why not see if he can help us now and in the future. Abreu will be a distant memory next year for the Mets.

  • Terrible Terry said a while back that Abreu prefers RF. And you know him being a veteran and all…gets what he wants…not necessarily what’s best for the team. SMH.

  • 2rings

    Mets dropping like flies.

  • Arjun Vidudala

remember when he was in his prime for the phils, guy used to murder us lol

  • Waz0787

So much for youth movement 41 years old OF who was out of baseball last year is out starting RF. Enough said 72 wins teams

  • Arjun Vidudala

dude grounded into 2 dps yday with 2 men on twice

  • Well Mr. deGrom here’s your chance to show your staying power. And on cue a K….nice.

  • Novito

This is exactly my thoughts. I mean cmonnnn we are really being duped as fans.

  • Arjun Vidudala

obv, but cys rally killing is painful to watch id prefer campbell but anything except cy and dudas k by me atm

  • Metropolitan

Yep Collins is falling hard for Bobby Abreu…Love at first sight

  • Metropolitan

    there goes the no hitter

  • 2rings

EY has that one on his patented dive

  • Pirates announcers saying Hurdle was offered Mets job and rejected it…and then we ended up with Collins. Anyone else remember this at all??

  • 2rings

    lol

  • mr1313

Collins always has to have one butt boy at his disposal.

  • Waz0787

He looks legit. An accidental ACE in the makings

  • 2rings

    nope

  • MetsfanInParadise

    TGTNH

  • 2rings

can’t throw the off speed for strikes in the early going

  • ACE…might be overselling.

  • Waz0787

    If ike hits a HR

  • MyasDaddy

Wow. Ike got a nice hand.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    here comes ike

  • sperry

Nice to see the ovation for Ike

  • 2rings

    very

  • It’s easy not to miss even Ike when you’ve had to put up with Duda.

  • MetsfanInParadise

I’d ask why not denDekker instead of Abreu, but we all know better by now–TC is a f’kin moron

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Looking forward to the flood of, “We should have kept Davis” comments if he gets on base.

  • MyasDaddy

Maybe it was a sarcastic cheer directed at Sandy because Ike was freed.

  • mets4lyfe

Its appaling that a player like Ike Davis receives nice round of applause from the fans while Beltran and Reyes were mostly boo’d in their returns.

    You have to wonder sometimes.

  • 2rings

we should have kept him over duda, whether he goes 0-4 or 4-4

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

thank god for tiny nubile hamsters?

  • Sounds about right. Some beat writer on twitter said even in the roster announcement Ike got a noticeable cheer form the crowd.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Good average. No power. No RBI. He’d fit right in, You’re right.

  • I’m military and come from huge military family, and as we get down on some great ribs and ice cold cervezas, all of us think those camo caps the Mets are wearing are fugly.

  • Waz0787

They left. He got kicked out because of duda

  • 2rings

well..difference as I see it is ,Reyes left on his own, and all anyone remembers about Carlos is taking a called strike 3. Ike was run out of town on a rail , in favor of a bum

  • Jimmy Broadway

Reyes was never offered a contract

  • Arjun Vidudala

degrom seems to be in trouble

  • MetsfanInParadise

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. I was the biggest Ike fan around, but it’s a waste of time to pine over him, as it’s a waste of time to say “we should trade for…” and it’s even worse when commenters criticize others for their preference. Everyone should just focus on the game and our players. LGM!

  • 2rings

lol. poster boy..Listen, I liked Ike, but neither him nor Duda is the answer

  • Novito

I think i may be the only fan that likes the camo jerseys n hats, however i like the camo with a blue rim instead (thought they had 1 or i was dreaming lol).

Big thank you to all the soldiers!

  • billpulsipher

everyone around baseball knew Duda was garbage…everyone but dear sandy of course

  • MyasDaddy

Wish the Wilpons would show their face. I want to serenate them a nice roundly sound boo.

  • Metropolitan

a simple American flag patch on normal caps would be sufficient the camo is over board and are very hideous…

  • 2rings

not saying he is or isn’t, but the bottom line is chanpionships, and in the eyes of a lot of fans, that at bat cost the Mets a chance at one.

  • billpulsipher

Beltran and Reyes signed big money deals with big market teams as opposed to signing with the small market scrubsies…so people viewed them as enemies…i am sure if they came back now they would be cheered now that everyone sees they were replaced with andres torres/chris young and ruben effin tejada

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

And one of the greatest post season players of all time.

  • 2rings

Sure he was, just nothing near what the Marlins offered

  • 2rings

Agree, but more importantly, Thank You and your family for their service and sacrifice

  • MyasDaddy

No he wasn’t. He was never offered a contract.

  • sperry

Duda playing like crap and knowing that this organization destroyed a very talented player will do that

  • KMO82

    Nice

  • Arjun Vidudala

    DOUBLE PLAY!

  • Metropolitan

    Nice .

  • MyasDaddy

    HE got out of it!

  • It’s not so much that Ike had to go; everyone knew or should’ve known that. It’s Ike leaving for Duda that was a questionable baseball IQ call. Ike leaving for Jose Abreu?? Risky but you could see potential. Ike leaving for Morales?? No question. Ike leaving for Duda?? Now that was risky and questionable.

  • 2rings

    wow they ACTUALLY TURNED TWO

  • Novito

DP!!! And not on us. Haha

  • Arjun Vidudala

degrom looking composed like a boss lol

where’s Vic Black, the other superstar reliever sandy the genius stole from the pirates? oh yea, triple A..

  • mets4lyfe

Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes are two of the best players in Mets history while Ike Davis will be nothing more than a trivia question. Furthermore, Reyes and Beltran didn’t just “leave” per se. Sandy didn’t offer a contract to Reyes and the Mets had zero intention of signing Beltran. What are they suppose to do when the Mets have zero interest in them returning?

Mets fans sometimes can be downright clueless.

  • MyasDaddy

    LOL! E-5

  • KMO82

  • Keith talking about it now. It’s wild how much we lack fundamentals as a team. And it’s not like it’s Terry’s first season.

  • 2rings

    grandy will come through

  • MyasDaddy

I wish Murph and Wright couldve’ switched their AB’s It would 1-0

  • One is a fundamentally solid player, the other is not. Thus the still 0-0.

  • 2rings

I mumble that to myself multiple times a game..pitchers cannot bunt, cannot get runners in from third with less than 2 outs, moving runners, etc..

  • Metropolitan

Funny how you are treated like a rock star being in the military these days when a couple of my uncles came back from Vietnam they were not treated like rock stars

  • mets4lyfe

I’m still speechless that Ike Davis probably received a more positive reaction from the crowd than Reyes and Beltran combined in their returns.

  • What pictures? Send again to getmetsmerized@aol.com.

  • 2rings

very sad chapter in our history. Taking out the anger at the govt on those soliders who were doing their duty

  • I guess the pirates coaching staff figured out Ike’s woes…

  • Nmartz

Being a mets fan is so frustrating..

  • mr1313

Ok. You emailed me back. I’ll forward it.

  • Keith’s stache

they just took off his Mets uniform & made him put on the Pirates unis

  • MyasDaddy

This team doesn’t do anything right. It’s a reflection of the manager.

  • Manager of The Year

Pirates hitting coach is definitely better than that fool Hudgens

  • HarveyKsYou

What kind of reaction did Ike get? And are there a lot of people there?

  • Andrew Herbst

    Agreed.

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • Taskmaster4450

They dont hit him against lefties and they told him to swing at the straight balls.

  • Cesaro

they don’t have the mets garbage hitting philosophy

  • MyasDaddy

Warm reception. Luke warm. A little more people there than normal.

  • mets4lyfe

I don’t see the Mets ever playing in a LDS as long as the Wilpons are the owner.

  • Davis is batting .303 in 32 games with a .395 on-base and .824 OPS in 115 plate appearances. He has lifted his season totals significantly and is now slashing at .283/.389/.424. Smells a lot better than the crap the Dud puts up. Also shows the Mets strategy doesn’t work and their coaching is terrible.

  • Taskmaster4450

Reyes was booed because he left on his own unlike Ike and Beltran who were traded (Strawberry was booed also in an LAD uniform). Beltran was always under appreciated by Met fans.

  • Keith! They are both Navy!!! Difference is enlisted vs officers!

The Mets never offered a contract to Reyes. Exactly what was he supposed to do?

Not like the Mets gave him an offer similar to the Marlins and he decided to sign with the Marlins. Mets had zero intention of re-signing him.

Maybe Reyes should’ve settled for a minor league deal with the Mets…………but no offer.

  • igotyourbackman

Never could understand why his stance was never corrected. Way too wide with the Mets

  • 2rings

Long day ahead if he cannot get the off speed over the plate

  • HarveyKsYou

    More than yesterday’s day game?

  • igotyourbackman

Degrom struggling. They must have told him to hunt strikes.

  • Andrew Herbst

Degrom is having trouble locating his off speed stuff.

  • TheMets philosophy

Ike davis must have gave the pirates a scouting report take those damn pitches:)

  • depends when.

i think everyone sees through the mirage of Sandy now.

had this been 2012, folks would’ve booed Ike.

  • HarveyKsYou

Saw a tweet from a beat reporter about mets over hyping their pitching prospects.

  • igotyourbackman

My father in law was told to mow the lawns on base when he got back. Pitiful.

  • MyasDaddy

Didn’t see yesterdays game. Cannot comment.

  • mets4lyfe

The Mets don’t, the media does.

  • TheMets philosophy

The point of doing that is usually so you can trade them not to have the fans disappointed

  • sperry

That was painful to listen to

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Doesn’t seem like Wally & Co. have these guys very polished when they come up.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

The media does more hyping than the Mets ever do.

  • MyasDaddy

You will always be that guy aren’t you?

  • Taskmaster4450

Why would the Mets offer a contract to Reyes when it was $25M-$30M more than they wanted to spend?

Strawberry wasnt offered a similar deal by the Mets that the LAD gave him. That is how it goes.

But none of that matters to most fans…one of their favorites leaves…they feel slighted.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

I’m sorry. Do they seem polished to you?

  • MyasDaddy

Who are you talking about in particular?

  • The most athletic weatherman

How many minor leaguers really come up and don’t have ups and downs?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Montero and deGrom. High pitch counts. Control issues. Stuff aside, they should be able to throw strikes.

  • Andrew Herbst

Interesting that guy had a Mets shirt and Pirates hat.

  • TheMets philosophy

The dont look like anything they look like young pitchers who are being over analyzed like people like you

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

An inability to throw strikes and get through two innings without throwing less than 40 pitches seems like more than ups and downs.

  • MyasDaddy

They are both making their 3rd MLB start. Give me a break.

  • igotyourbackman

I’m not seeing all that much of a problem. If you can do it better then get out here and light em up.

  • The most athletic weatherman

His first two games were very good. It’s called growing pains.

  • AlexHZ

pretty sure that was a chick

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Watching isn’t really over analysis.

  • MetsfanInParadise

I guess he’s been paying too much attention to all that media hype

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Haha.

  • Arjun Vidudala

the hats cool i guess, and not to mention wiz khalifa hyped it a load lol

  • MyasDaddy

How about when your boy TC puts Lagares on a week vacation? Or how about how that bum Abreu is starting over Campbell..

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

I thought the Mets hype them.

  • Lotus1209

Not a fan of Wally… But how is that Wally’s fault? He can’t teach him how to throw their stuff. Yes they can guide them along but pithching depends on themselves.. The coaching staff can only do so much.

  • Arjun Vidudala

that would explain a lot actually

  • Taskmaster4450

    Who was overhyped?

    Wheeler maybe?

Montero looks like the real deal. Degrom exceeded everyone’s expectations. Harvey was everything and more. Noah seems to be the real deal. Mejia and Familia look like they were worth the noteriety they got.

Do injuries play a part? Sure. But what does that have to do with anything. Isnt Harvey still projected to be a helluva big league pitcher when he returns? I believe so. Did TJ derail Strasburg’s career? How about many of the others?

    So where is the overhype?

  • iwamofo

This guy right here is a prime example of fan who saw Matt Harvey dominate and expected all other touted prospects to come up and produce right away

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    I’ll keep that in mind.

  • Andrew Herbst

    My bad. Lol.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Dominate. Throw strikes. Sure, same thing.

  • Andrew Herbst

That was a cool hat. I liked it.

  • Arjun Vidudala

like i said the hat is cool

  • MetsfanInParadise

    WTF is a wiz khalifa

  • Arjun Vidudala

    haha a supposed rapper

  • Waz0787

    Duda boooooooooo

  • Andrew Herbst

    It sure is.

  • ArchieBellandTheDrells

just got on. Was Ike booed in his first AB?

  • Arjun Vidudala

this guy throws a lot of sinkers

  • Arjun Vidudala

    lukewarm applause

  • mr1313

1st pitch swinging how about that. Beat the shift out of that one.

  • HarveyKsYou

    Such an offensive force.

  • iwamofo

    *farce

  • TheMets philosophy

Oh so last week he looked good and this week he doesnt and last week montero looked bad and yesterday he looked good? Im just curious wich week do you decide to do your aanalysis?

  • MetsfanInParadise

After the last couple of days I hope Lucas is finally saying to himself, “f–k this hunting strikes BS. I’m just going to go up there and look for my pitch and swing at it.”
    https://www.change.org/petitions/new-york-mets-fire-terry-collins

  • HarveyKsYou

    Did Duda get booed?

  • Arjun Vidudala

yes our hits have the explosive power of squeezed lemons and put fear into our opponents much like an over excited poodle might

  • MetsfanInParadise

    “WW”

  • MyasDaddy

When he was first called up, he used all fields. They made him into a dead pull hitter.

  • Waz0787

I booed him from my couch.

  • MyasDaddy

Cohen paying homage to Doc Emrick. And he is right. The best play by play announcer in all 4 major sports.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Well that was a 1st pitch single to LF, bucking both trends

  • Andrew Herbst

I love listening to Doc Emrick broadcast a hockey game.

  • MyasDaddy

    It’s all about philosophy.

  • MyasDaddy

    He is the best bar-none.

  • Andrew Herbst

No question. Best hockey announcer and one of the best in sports.

  • There ya go!

  • Waz0787

    Hit a HR ike

  • Taskmaster4450

    A met fan?

Amazing you would root against them.

  • Waz0787

    Sandy did him dirty.

  • Jgreen

    Glad Ike is happy

  • Maybe you should watch some HGTV instead

  • MetsfanInParadise

We’ll have those infants saying, “Metsie, Metsie,” before too long. Poor kids.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T2T-Ijocnk

  • MyasDaddy

Ike looks like the same old Ike to me. He still has no balance.

  • Waz0787

    He didn’t

  • HarveyKsYou

    How’s the crowd look?

  • Frank Francisco

I’m all for supporting the troops, but the Mets really couldn’t have come up with something not so ugly?

  • MetsfanInParadise

DeGrom is dancing through raindrops, as Tim McCarver used to say.

  • MyasDaddy

deGrom is battling today. Like to see if the kids have balls. Montero looked like he had the same type of effort yesterday. Sometimes you have to will your way to a win.

  • Arjun Vidudala

if degrom just manages to pitch till the 6th thatd be nice

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments
  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    6IP. 130 pitches.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Bored

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

He did himself dirty by being terrible.

  • MyasDaddy

Those old Pirate hats are pimp.

  • MetsfanInParadise

I thought Pops Stargell gave out the stars

  • It was Pops don’t listen to them.

  • Arjun Vidudala

If he settles down a little it might be about 110-115

  • MetsfanInParadise

    DeGrom should hit 5th

  • Andrew Herbst

Degrom knows what he’s doing at the plate.

  • Arjun Vidudala

degrom giving a better ab than cy lol

  • HarveyKsYou

Guy isn’t very good. No speed, not home run power and below average glove. Another overhyped player earlier in his career.

  • Ilgranformaggio

The outline stitching around the numbers make them look pink-ish on TV.

  • Metropolitan

    The pillbox ones?

  • sperry

And duda was rewarded for being terrible

  • HarveyKsYou

    de Grom should play SS.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

He was chosen for being slightly less terrible in the eyes of terrible people.

  • Waz0787

Degrom is better than CY and Tejada combined

  • Metropolitan

    nah give lagares the hit

  • Andrew Herbst

    Lucky break for Lagares

  • MyasDaddy

    Yep

  • MetsfanInParadise

Same thing Murph did in the 9th yesterday

  • Captain America

    Pirates fan?

  • Mike C

He prob already has longer hit streak than cy has had all year

  • MetsfanInParadise

    That doesn’t sound too difficult

  • Arjun Vidudala

DeGrom was a SS before he was converted right? Explains the hitting ability, nice to see the pitcher hitting

  • 2rings

    murph nice

  • MyasDaddy

Cumpton. I wonder if Gary will butcher that name at least once today.

  • HarveyKsYou

    This offense sucks

  • Andrew Herbst

    Murph’s slumping.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    Oh my murph

  • Good job by SNY showing a pic of Kent Tekulve when discussing the ugly Bucs uniforms. IDK why he is the poster child for me when it comes to those bad uniforms. Maybe it was his ugly glasses

  • Metropolitan

I actually like those they are selling them on the MLB website currently ,the Mets I believe did where those too for a season I think in like 76 or 77 I believe ,I wish they would sell the Mets one I would buy it in a second,

  • MetsfanInParadise

Murph thinks, “and they keep criticizing me for not being involved in enough double plays…”

  • Frank Francisco

Wow, the Mets currently don’t have a single regular player with an OPS Over .800

  • MyasDaddy

Yeah, but the Pirate ones are bad ass for sure. The Mets hat was just different. It didn’t fit the color scheme.

  • AlexHZ

He’s early on everything today, he will adjust in-game, wait for it.

  • mets4lyfe

Murphy made the 3rd most outs in the NL last year, I believe.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Keith should know better-he was there!

  • Andrew Herbst

I hope so. We need him to get some timely hits.

  • Metropolitan

his brain is in a permanent slump

  • MetsfanInParadise

Had 3 hits in game 2 yesterday

  • Ilgranformaggio

wasn’t he 6-13 in Dbax series?

  • Andrew Herbst

    Yep. Exactly.

  • Andrew Herbst

Yeah, but he’s leaving a lot of men on base.

  • Andrew Herbst

It just seems like he’s grounding into a lot of DP’S.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    i do hate alvarez >.>

  • Keith’s stache

I really don’t know why I watch this anymore.

  • konyc

And he was 2nd in hits–I’ll take that every time.

  • That means nothing when you look at his other numbers. Just means he is healthy and batting at the top of the lineup

  • donobrien

Your spleen is in permanent overdrive.

  • Andrew Herbst

Hopefully deGrom can give us 6.

  • 77 pitches through 4. Can he make it through 6th??

  • MetsfanInParadise

My heart is in my throat every time the ball goes up and to RF
    https://www.change.org/petitions/new-york-mets-fire-terry-collins

  • konyc

DeGrom seems infected today with the high pitch count problem that affects Wheeler and Montero. They’ve all pitched decently, but throwing 80 pitches through 4 means we’re likely to use our bullpen for half the game. And we know what that means, most days.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    lol im following the game on gameday and found this little nugget from the scouting report during this ab “Jacob deGrom is trying to tie up Brandon Cumpton with fastballs inside;
Cumpton is hitting .000 on pitches in that location compared to .000
    overall.”

  • MetsfanInParadise

    And doesn’t walk a lot

  • Frank Francisco

I must admit deGromm has really exceeded my expectations. His fastball is electric, his secondary pitches are polished, and his command is outstanding.

I think he might be a significantly under-hyped prospect.

  • AlexHZ

    why not stream the game?

  • Keith’s stache

    lol I read that too

  • MyasDaddy

    Le Grande Orange!

  • MetsfanInParadise

Awesome to see Rusty again. He was my first favorite because he was the first autograph I ever got
    https://www.change.org/petitions/new-york-mets-fire-terry-collins

  • MyasDaddy

Rusty is the man. True American hero. What he did after 9-11 was a true inspiration.

  • Good job by Mets today but they can still do it by not capitalizing on selling camo

  • tacknaf

    warning track power

  • MyasDaddy

    Yay! Abreu is up.

  • donobrien

Good to see you back, SG. Been missing your comments.

  • Frank Francisco

You realize Abreu leads the team in OPS right now (SSS, but still)… right?

  • Frank Francisco

It’s a small sample size, but Abreu currently leads the team in OPS. Could end up being the Byrd of this season.

Maybe the fans who are criticizing him should rethink. Unless you’d rather have CY and EY OPS’ing .630

  • MetsfanInParadise

Trivia question- too easy. Hard to believe there have only been 3

  • MyasDaddy

    Kiner, Stargell and Clemente?

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • MetsfanInParadise
  • Andrew Herbst

    Kiner. Stargell, and Clemente

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    Well done. 🙂

  • First three starts all at home? Wow! How is that even possible? Color me impressed.

  • MyasDaddy

Is that Laz Diaz behind the plate?

  • MetsfanInParadise

it’s just a scheduling quirk, because they had that 3 game road trip to DC. Your sarcasm is equally impressive

  • donobrien

You gave a terribly good analysis.

  • Mike C

At least Duda has been good defensively

  • Mike C

Flores needs some work knowing the batters speed

  • MyasDaddy

    Stretch boy.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Flores double-clutched again. Cost him. That’s about the 3rd time Keith has criticized Lucas’s stretch

  • Andrew Herbst

Flores should have gotten the ball out quicker.

  • sperry

Because his stretching (or lack thereof) has been a problem all year

  • Mike C

    Yeah. Jinxed myself didnt i

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Whatever tiny boost he gives on offense, I think he’d give back on defense.

  • Duda has been displaying all the hallmarks of why he will be our first baseman over the next five years. Chief among them he’ll play for three hots and a cot. #Duder

  • Mike C

Ok. Lets score some runs!!!! Something other than singles would be nice!!!

  • ArchieBellandTheDrells

pretty sure Keith just mumbled “shocking” when Ike didn’t swing at that ball in the dirt.

  • If Duda is the starting 1B for the next five years, lots will have continued to go wrong.

  • Thanks. Work has been cray cray and been asst coaching my 8 year old sons BB team so haven’t been around

  • Frank Francisco

Yeah because he’s just botched so many plays in the outfield… Been absolutely intolerable out there…

and batting .270/.355/.440 is a little more than a “tiny boost” compared to Chris Young’s .204/.289/.352 or Eric Young’s .220/.315/.300

  • donobrien

Didn’t Babe Ruth play the outfield for the Red Sox when he wasn’t pitching?

  • MyasDaddy

Is it too late to completely blow this thing up? New players, new regime? New owners…?

  • Ace719

If the mets would of signed Abreu and Granderson and done nothing else. I think we would of had a 90 win season. Pitching would of been fine and bullpen would of been fine with young arms.

  • If they took away the blue and just had orange and Camo they wouldn’t be complete vomit

  • Anthony

We are scalding the ball today

  • Ace719

    Bat him 3rd!!!!!!

  • Arjun Vidudala

where is the live stream? not subscribed to mlb.tv btw

  • MetsfanInParadise

I was about to say, “Here comes our offense.”

  • Pawlecki gonna be up next year no matter how dArno does

  • I’ve been promoting Plawecki for years and defending him from the he’s only in Single-A crowd.

  • Mike C

    Degrom should be hitting coach!!!

  • tacknaf

can we move deGrom back to SS??

  • Dio

    hes our best hitter lol

  • mr1313

Picture looks good Joe. I thought it was fitting for the day. Thank you.

  • Metropolitan

perhaps they could move him to a position

  • MetsfanInParadise

Now they’re the “he’s only in Double-A” crowd.

    https://www.change.org/petitions/new-york-mets-fire-terry-collins

  • everybodysbuddy

    put the kid at SS!

  • deGrom should honestly be the first bat off the bench. He can hit, EYj can pinch run, and boom…offensive weapons.

  • SteveFromNorfolk

DeGrom – our new pinch hitter!

  • Yes, exactly. You’re good at this game. LOL

  • Arjun Vidudala

lmao degrom has more hits than the entire lineup combined

  • You’re very welcome.

  • mr1313

Can we just bat Degrom in the lineup wasn’t he a SS.

  • Dio

lol hes too good of a pitcher. weird problem to have.

  • Frank Francisco

Very few players with a BB% and ISO as low as Plawecki’s exist in the majors.

He needs to refine his approach at the plate before he will climb prospect rankings.

  • NYM86

“For whatever reason” No, Gary we know the reason, we have too many AAAA players flooding the roster.

  • mynewdisqusname

He should get some PH at bats.

  • donobrien

Babe Ruth played outfield when he wasn’t pitching for the Red Sox. Maybe DeGrom can play SS on his off days. LOL.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    come on murph!

  • Mike C

So the mets will start hitting on thursday when they hit the road again in philly

  • Dio

yeah but hes a really good pitcher too

  • Dio

    i like it

  • Wait what??

  • metsfan79

Nice DeGrom to play short on his off days from starting.

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

This team just can’t do anything right. Thrown out at another base yet again to cost them a run.

  • KMO82

    Wasn’t he blocking the plate?

  • Arjun Vidudala

    wait we got a run?

  • DeGrom has his own batting cage at home, loves hitting.

  • Mike C

Dammit. Clutch hit but great block at the plate

  • KMO82

    Please challenge this.

  • donobrien

    CHALLENGE!!!!

  • Jgreen

    It is blocked!

  • mynewdisqusname

Can the rest of the team use it? Seems to be working.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    he challenging it?

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

Yeah, per the new rule he’s completely obscuring the plate. No way the runner can tag home and it’s a good way for him to get a broken leg.

  • MyasDaddy

Safe. His hand get under the leg.

  • Metsfan27

    Keith’s gotta chill

  • Anthony

    Agree with keith

  • Ilgranformaggio

His hand looks like it gets in before tag

  • Dio

    illegal block

  • Honestly, in a clutch pinch hitting situation, I’m giving him a shot over anyone else on the bench.

  • Mike C

Yeah it does!!! I saw that too. Either way by the rules it should count as run

  • MyasDaddy

    me too

  • mr1313

I was kidding but he could pinch hit in emergency.

  • KMO82

I think he was safe anyway.

  • KMO82

Was he safe, or was it an illegal block?

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

    Sweet

  • I’ll take it.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    me too

  • Metsfan27

    illegal block

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

    blocking the plate…

  • Mike C

I hate the rule change. But it worka for us

  • KMO82

    He looked safe too.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    so the run scores yes?

  • Mike C

That 2nd rbi helps my fantasy team!!!!

  • Ilgranformaggio

He did. If you see how far his hand is over the plate once the tag is applied, it makes sense he beat it.

  • Joe

Is it me or does everything always go right when Lagares is involved

  • Dio

he was out just illegal block

  • Arjun Vidudala

    yus!!!!!

  • Cesaro

His hand got in before the tag anyway

  • Anthony

Let’s start using whiffle balls the balls are to hard

  • mr1313

I’m laying Martin on his but if he was in front of the plate but that’s just me I love collisions at the plate. Safe. Nice.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    heads up play by lag

  • He’s the chosen one.

  • Jgreen

Ill take it but this is stupid

  • Dio

juan lifted his hand to go over the leg and hit the bag

  • Metropolitan

Martin should have been positioned at the back of the plate, his bad,

  • Arjun Vidudala

grandy will strikeout and end the inning anyway >.> yes im hoping he proves me wrong

  • MyasDaddy

Keith shooting from the hip today.

  • Oh come on Keith, chill brother. Have a Tootsie Roll pop.

  • Metropolitan

yeah but we got another run we would not have had

  • Cesaro

    Lets go David

  • Hahaha

  • Arjun Vidudala

    ik just getting greedy lol

  • Dio

3 hard hits right at people

  • AlexHZ

    http://cricfree.eu/live-tennis-streaming-ch3.php

there are other places, this one just has the sny feed

  • MetsfanInParadise

Wright’s hit the ball hard all 3 times, even though they’re not dropping in today.

  • Lost in all this, #ImWith28

  • AlexHZ

    told you he would.

  • Dio

was this video made in 1974?

  • Frank Francisco

DW is getting some solid wood on balls. They aren’t falling, but they will. Very nice to see.

  • Jgreen

BABIP God is not helping David today

  • Mike C

Btw. To any fellow vets on the msg board god bless to u and ur fallen comrades

  • HawkZon

I think he was safe anyway.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Payback for all those bloops and infield hits he got last week.

  • You too brother….

  • Dio

am i the only one wondering why this video looks like it was made 40 yrs ago and cost 3 dollars to do? thats what was meant to be paying homage and remember lost lives?

  • Metropolitan

You have to give a runner a lane like at any other base..

  • Anthony

    Thanks for your service

  • Joe

Lagares is a beautiful human being with perfect strides and an effortless ability to catch the ball.

BUT NOT IN A GAY WAY!!

  • MyasDaddy

    LOL

  • MetsfanInParadise

Not that there’s anything wrong with that

  • Joe

I know, it’s a joke, reference to that youtube video lol

  • Roger Waters in his recent Wall tour did a really cool memorial for the soldiers. On his website you can submit a pic of the Fallen and the story and during intermission they would cycle through 20 pics at a time projected on the wall. Hard not to cry when looking at it

  • Andrew Herbst

Lagares is so smooth in CF.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Seinfeld

  • mr1313

Never forget the selfless service members who have served. Every year I go to my local memorial day ceremony.

  • Joe

No the “Kobe Bryant fan” thing

  • Mike C

Such a noticable difference between Juan and CY in center. So smooth

  • Andrew Herbst

U did. I have to be more optimistic.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    ??

  • Joe
  • MetsfanInParadise

    CY looked like Matt Kemp

  • donobrien

Back at you, brother. You’re active duty, no? Medics are the grunts’ favorite people.

  • Andrew Herbst

Oh yes. Juan makes it look easy.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    lmao

  • MyasDaddy

    Just awful

  • konyc

    Or even Jack Kemp.

  • Mike C

Should degrom go out in the 7th. Seen TC leave some of the young starters out there longer than used to.

  • Super T

Just got home & read the news about Thor. Harvey down with TJ, Wheeler doesn’t have superhero powers after all, and now Thor might be going down the same road as Harvey. This fellow Met fans is exactly why the team needs to be spending money and making trades in addition to developing prospects, and can’t expect to totally turn things around depending entirely on young players.

  • MyasDaddy

Funny though. That guy should be institutionalized.

  • Anthony

Let’s get this kid a win lgm

  • NewYorkMammoths

    deGrom?

  • Destry

Man, we gotta find a way to get deGrom’s bat in the lineup along with Dice-K. They’re our two best hitters

  • Super T

LOL, thought the problem was with their pitching?

  • Joe

If me make it far enough I want Mejia to close again :/

  • Destry

It is. They are 11th in team ERA in NL out of 15 teams. They are 11th in starters ERA slightly above the Phillies at 12th,

  • Anthony

    Legares gets that

  • Arjun Vidudala

    abreu 2 for 3

  • MetsfanInParadise

    from the dugout?

  • Mike C

How much is abreau getting paid compared to CY? Keep him in right and use CY as d replacement

  • MetsLGM

Whatd I miss? lol. Is EY really out on the DL? Please be so :p

  • Mike C

    Wouldnt be surprised lol

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Not available today

  • Anthony

    The underground hitting cages

  • Super T

You’re just gonna keep on banging out that one hit wonder (ERA & Runs) ain’t ya?

  • MetsfanInParadise

    impressive (in Darth Vader voice)

  • donobrien

Abreu does it for the old guys. Age is mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it don’t matter.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Happy Memorial Day

  • MetsLGM

    Ike trolling duda lol

  • mr1313

Duda doesn’t get his glove on that ball.

  • Joe

is it wrong i was kind of relieved EYJ went on the DL?

  • MetsfanInParadise

Have to say it, just once: Boy, I miss Ike.

  • Andrew Herbst

Abreu has turned out to be one of our best hitters.

  • MetsLGM

And it seems we are out if it by it just on cue ! Happy memorial day to you too 🙂

  • MetsfanInParadise

If it is, a whole lot of us are going to hell.

  • Destry

You’re missing the point. Yes, we have good young pitching, BUT, compared to the rest of the NL we have been bad. Starters especially. We aren’t the only team with pitching. In fact, all but the Rockies, Pirates, D-Backs and Phillies have pitched better than us this year, and the Rockies have a better road ERA than we do. The steroid ERA is long gone.

  • HarveyKsYou

    Flores looks great.

  • MikePiazza3186

    Stupid comment

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • MetsLGM

    smh, those white people :p

  • Arjun Vidudala

    thanks a bunch man 😀

  • MikePiazza3186

Ike was awful as a met just like duda no better but maybe worse

  • mr1313

Would Boy, I miss Piazza be better because I do?

  • mr1313

    Ike was not worse.

  • MetsLGM

lot of pitches to start off the inning like that though hes in there, i can see one inning from him and it forces starters to give some depth in the game

  • Destry

Ike’s 0-2. Just like every other game he played here. Duda is 1-2

  • MetsfanInParadise

Ike hit 30 HR for the Mets, something only 3 other homegrown players did. He will have twice the career Duda does.

  • MetsLGM

and duda is 0-what with runners in scoring position?

  • Metropolitan

funny the only thing I can remember about Beltran is looking at that strike 3,that is my only memory

  • Destry

Do you know that he has a higher career average with RISP than Ike? Bet ya didn’t

  • MetsfanInParadise

You know, I’m watching the game too. One game does not a season make. Or a career. They’ve had the same HR & RBI totals since the trade ands Ike has walked more and K’d less. But it has nothing to do with their current stats. We all have favorite players.

  • Super T

And you’re tunnel visioned on two stats (ERA & Runs) that aren’t telling the real picture. It’s just like I told you, I can simply look up the Mets offensive numbers and see that by only looking at OPS Jacob deGrom is leading the team.
Just because he has the highest OPS doesn’t automatically mean he is the best hitter on the team. You have to factor in other relevant items. Same thing with your two stats (ERA & Runs) you keep harping on. It’s comical because they aren’t painting the true picture that the majority of Met fans know.

  • MetsLGM

Maybe they just both suck and i wouldnt miss either of them, Ike is the better of them at least he could hit 30 HRs one year and showed promise before he did a met

  • Joe

That was the most painful moment of my life. I’m not going to lie, I cried. For a long time.

  • MetsfanInParadise

What has he done for us lately? Why are you ragging so hard on anyone who says they like Ike? I’m rooting for Duda because he’s on our team. Like Collins said, I hope Ike has a great year. just not for the next 3 days.

  • 94SupraTT

    That’s because you’re an idiot.

  • tacknaf

i like this deGrom kid. he has balls

  • MetsLGM

anyone remember that travis snyder catch at citi way back when ? They just showed highlights of it

  • Destry

True, but I would venture to wager that if Ike were here, he wouldn’t have the same success as he hasn’t hit above .220 in several years. Duda’s numbers would probably be slightly elevated if playing in Pittsburgh. Ike needed to go. He was once my favorite player, but he was just brutal here for a long time.

  • MyasDaddy

    There’s no crying in baseball

  • sperry

The Mets sweeping the Pirates in 1999 to keep the playoffs hope alive will be my best memory of these two teams playing each other

  • Arjun Vidudala

baxter hr right? or wouldve been

  • Destry

Because its such BS to root for Ike who is playing for the pirates and sucked for us, and root against OUR 1B.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Enough already. I’m done with this BS. They both suck right now. But people are allowed to have favorites

  • Wait, why was deGrom out for the 7th??

  • Andrew Herbst

    Good test for Familia.

  • MetsLGM

All i remember is the catch dont remember who hit it lol, im guessing so.

  • MyasDaddy

I was there for the wild pitch.

  • tacknaf

I was at the Rick Reed game… they won 7-0…. crowd was pumped up… i miss Shea

  • HarveyKsYou

Why is that we can’t see have a complete performance? The pitchers either walk too many or give up too many hits.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Where did I say that, jackalope? Did you even read my previous comment?

  • MetsLGM

Good job degrom, I heard he was getting out of some major trouble today is that accurate?

  • mr1313

    Nice ovation for deGrom.

  • Destry

Ike was hitting way worse for us last year at this time than Duda is this year.

  • MyasDaddy

    Come on man, for real?

  • HarveyKsYou

    Crowd still “big”?

  • Mets Fan in Paris

Great job by deGrom, but seriously Terry? Over 120 pitches?

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • HarveyKsYou

Who cares. Stop babying the pitchers

  • MyasDaddy

    well deserved, he battled today.

  • Mike Lloyd

Well Henry, we gotta get Jacob going….

  • Destry

Didn’t say you specifically. Didn’t say anyone specifically. Just said it is BS, and it is.

  • Destry

    Fair

  • goorru

    Wahhh

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Oh, take a xanax

  • mets4lyfe

Familia’s motion is so herky jerky.

  • MetsLGM

    here comes the wild thing.

  • Frank Francisco

What? Abreu batting .300 with a great OBP and power?

But if it was up to Mets fans he’d be riding the bench because of age-bias.

deGromm has been outstanding. His fastball electric, secondaries look great, command is fabulous… Idk why this kid flew under the scout’s radars.

Completely changed my opinion on him. Obviously expecting some regression but this kid is fantastic.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Same day Thor hits the DL with elbow issues, Collins let’s deGrom throw over 120 pitches.

    Unreal.

  • MetsLGM

Harvey, thor, wheeler, montero, degrom, trade gee and niese for a shiny new batter? 🙂

  • MyasDaddy

Yes, he should still be riding the bench. One game doesn’t change the fact he is 40 and should only be pinch hitting at the most.

  • Mets Fan in Paris

2 walks in the 7th…not babying the pitcher man…it’s about him losing control.

  • $14435385

It’s not just the 122 pitches…it’s 122 pitches protecting a shutout. Every pitch was stressful and meaningful. Terry’s a buffoon.

  • Destry

OK. GIve me a stat that says our pitching has been good this year. Just because we have name recognition doesn’t mean they’ve produced. Tunnel vision is better than no vision. Bartolo Colon has the worst ERA among all qualified NL starters other than Franklin Morales who pitches his home games in Colorado, not the spacious Citi Field. Wheeler is 47th

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Might have to wait a year to “stop babying” Syndergaard.

  • Anthony

    Nice pitch

  • metsjetsfan

    Beautiful pitch

  • MetsLGM

Lol that pitch was unfair :p absolutely filthy

  • Destry

    You got some?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Who cares about intangible stress? The only stress I care about is stress on his elbow.

  • Joe

boo hooo stop babying pitchers. he’s fine.

  • MyasDaddy

The bullpen had a doubleheader yesterday. What do you expect him to do?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Cool. Hope Thor is “fine” too.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Not throw 122 pitches.

  • Manuel1991

    Nasty stuff by familia

  • Tommy

Sorry guys but I don’t think the amount of pitches these guys throw at the MLB level has anything to do with the TJ surgery! I really believe it has to do with these guys throwing younger & for longer now than when we were kids! I think the arm/elbow/shoulder problems are going to happen to some pitchers no matter what, and nothing these teams can do short of a crystal ball? Unfortunately!

  • Joe

Thor was noone’s fault in particular. Strawman argument.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

There’s no reason to throw 122 pitches. Its not a no hitter. Not a complete game. Not the playoffs. Not September.

Why? Because seven innings looks better then six?

  • mets4lyfe

    Familia has so much swagger.

  • Arjun Vidudala

yup got a dp in the 1st in a bases loaded situation

  • Arjun Vidudala

    lmao

  • Arjun Vidudala

doubleheader i believe, if not just collins just smoking the same crap he usually does as in because of the doubleheader yday btw

  • Frank Francisco

One good game??? You act like hitting well is something he hasn’t done his entire career…

With a .270 BABIP, It’s very possible (and actually likely) that it isn’t flash-in-pan production. If he could even come CLOSE to his career values that would return an extremely nice prospect (even better than the return the Mets got for Byrd) especially to an AL team needing a PH.

Also LaTroy Hawkins was 40, I didn’t hear anyone bitching about that last year.

  • Tommy

well, maybe you are correct, however, if you ask guys like Tom Seaver, he thinks the fact that they shut them down after 100 pitches is the reason we have so many issues! You heard the stories about the pitchers then! They pitched always!

  • MetsLGM

Lol I could only imagine the reactions on here, like degrom the bum trade him ! and then the butt kissing after he got that dp. Too bad i have to go to school these days :p

  • Destry

All Doctors and pitching coaches will tell you 120 pitches is an absolute NO NO

  • Arjun Vidudala

nah just the pitch count complaint 😛

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

I guess I’ll wait to see his next start.

  • MetsLGM

Id rather degrom bat then chris young personally. :p

  • Super T

The Mets are 3rd in the majors in quality starts. Which is a lot better indicator (imo) for showing day in and day out what has been going on, than “ERA” or “Runs” which could be greatly skewed by playing in Coors Field or the Bronx.

  • MyasDaddy

You have guys like MDD and Campbell who are young and need at-bats? Why not give them those at-bats and stop wasting them on a 40-year old stop-gap OFer.

  • donobrien

Satchel Page said he was 42 when he was finally allowed into the ML. Some thought he might actually have been 48.

  • Would totally love some insurance runs

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Doesn’t change the fact that is the was worthless to do that today.

  • Arjun Vidudala

oh damn i thought id get by without seeing CY batting >.>

  • MetsLGM

booo ! can 7 mil buy us a hit? you suck !

  • MikePiazza3186

    Me2 best moment for me

  • Mets Fan in Paris

I’m cool if you want to give his at bats away to Den Dekker or Puello or Soup, but not if you want to give his bats away to either of the Youngs (E or C). If it’s between the 3 veterans, then let Abreu swing the bat.

  • GB

DeGrom is better than Wheeler. He should not lose his spot when gee gets back

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • Pedro’s Rooster

They definitely threw more pitches back then, that’s for sure.

But I wonder if anyone ever asks the old-timers, “Do you remember a lot of guys whose careers ended early due to arm injuries?”

  • MetsLGM

lagaras reaching for pitches again.. no bueno

  • Arjun Vidudala

    beautiful catch

  • goorru

There’s zero eviDence that innings or pitch counts are related to elbow injuries.

  • Frank Francisco

Campbell deserves time but should be playing at 1B to spell the garbage we have in Duda.

MDD is not a good prospect. He strikes out an absurd amount and it isn’t likely he will be any better than Kirk Niewenhuis.

  • MyasDaddy

I am no in way advocating for the ABs to go to CY, or EY. The ABs need to go to Soup and MDD.

  • MetsLGM

I liked the lagaras catch off of mccutchen

  • Frank Francisco

Also if Abreu isn’t playing, CY will be, not MDD nor Campbell.

  • donobrien

You’re not wasting them if Abreu is hitting, as he has so far.

  • MyasDaddy

Still MDD should be getting the ABs.

  • MikePiazza3186

Lol yes he was wow short memory huh that 30 hr year was all when there was no pressure Ike was a disaster funny how we all forget

  • Metropolitan

at first blush did not seem like he was on the bag

  • MetsfanInParadise

he’s out but what the heck

  • MetsLGM

They lost that challenge. so close though

  • MikePiazza3186

Are you comparing Ike with piazza lol stupider comment

  • Destry

Its not one game its 50 or so ABs now. Does the same aplly for deGrom? A couple of starts means nothing and he should be sent down for better name recognition?

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Absolutely, but he wasn’t an old OF with no range and a fear of the wall. 🙂

  • Frank Francisco

And if Abreu has the potential to return a package like Herrera and Black you think that that should be sacrificed for a guy who is likely a AAAA player? That’s extremely short sighted.

  • Mets Fan in Paris

    I’m cool with that man.

  • MyasDaddy

Are you even asking me this?

  • Destry

Campbell also has a .400 OPS vs RHP. He has only hit lefties thus far.

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Hawkins is not an OF with no range and whose last decent season was 2010.

  • MyasDaddy

I cannot believe what I am reading right now…

  • Destry

    Yes. I am.

  • jjong

Good one. It is so close. It could have went either way

  • MetsLGM

whats terry’s record on challenges this year? something im curious about

  • MyasDaddy

Abreu couldn’t retrieve us a bag of baseballs and a dead Ted Williams.

  • MikePiazza3186

Ike wasn’t the answer but nether is duda come on sandy sign morales

  • Arjun Vidudala

if only ike hadnt kept his foot on the bag lol

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Abreu returning a package of Herrera and Black? Are we playing the assumption game?

If my grandmother had wheels, would she have been a bicycle?

  • Metropolitan

bull, the call should have been safe to start ,seems as though UMPS these days are giving too much benefit of the doubt to the defense and not the runner.Strange got a sport struggling for offense which is what people want to see and all they impede offense

  • MyasDaddy

Trying to compare Abreu to deGrom is comical. One is in his 20s, the other is 40. AARP will be calling in 10 years for crying out loud.

  • $14435385

The intangible stress does create increased stress on your elbow, as many pitchers have repeatedly stated (including Smoltz this weekend in an interview with Ed Randall). Executing with no margin for error has a physical component to it.

  • amarksupreme

I swear the only reason I watch mets telecasts anymore is the hope that Keith will be announcing

  • jjong

We might have to wait until after the draft since I think he has Qualifying Offer. right?

  • MikePiazza3186

Here’s rice lol how much you wanna bet he walks a lefty

  • Destry

Yeah cause its real hard to go 6 innings and ONLY give up 3 runs at Citi FIeld. Wonder how many of those QS’s are at home? Ya know, since the runs we scored in Colorado, Arizona, and Yankee Stadium don’t count, why do all the QS’s at Citi? How many quality starts did we have in Yankee Stadium? Colorado?

  • MikePiazza3186

    Yea he does

  • MyasDaddy

And comparing a SP to a 5th OF is laughable.

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Come on, dude. What if Abreu got us a package of Justin Upton and Julio Teheran?

  • Frank Francisco

If you’ve been watching the games, Abreu hasn’t really cost anything when he’s been in the OF. At least not yet.

And regardless, Hawkins was also not a career .300/.400/.500 hitter.

  • jjong

So don’t expects mets to sign him yet, better yet, they might never.

  • Metropolitan

Leave it too Sandy’s clown pen

  • MikePiazza3186

Wow can we dfa this bum please

  • MetsLGM

A walk would have been nice :c

  • KMO82

d’Arnaud 0-4 today for Binghamton. Plawecki 2-4 with a double and run scored. Reynolds DNP and Tovar was 1-3 with a double. Gorski 9IP 0R 2H BB 6K.

  • MikePiazza3186

    Yea rice is a disaster

  • MetsfanInParadise

“Clint Hurdle pushed the right button.” Funny, you don’t hear that about Collins too often.

  • NYM86

    Here we go!

  • MikePiazza3186

    Too often how about never

  • Tommy

Dude – Scott Rice is just not good this year! Period! Yet TC continues to go to him time after time!

  • Frank Francisco

Lol you are far to biased to even look at the situation fairly.

  • Joe

Lagares is the definition of a professional. His fundamentals are perfect.

  • Mike C

So tell me why we cant hit any HRs at home? Sincr Citi opened whats the comparison vs visitors?

  • MetsLGM

Rice isnt a bum he is being used wrong, he should only be used in a situation against lefties, because the average is over 400 vs righties. its painfully obvious

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

Scott Rice is awful. This bum needs to be sent packing.

  • Destry

What would make you think MDD is gonna hit, AT ALL? Campbell has a .400 OPS vs RHP. He can only hit lefties. CY sucks, EY has a .345 OBP vs RHP but he is on DL. Lets at least give credit where credit is due.

  • KMO82

    Two hands, gotta love it.

  • MikePiazza3186

He can’t get lefties either rice=bum

  • MetsLGM

    Terry burnt the rice

  • Frank Francisco

That’s what they said about Marlon Byrd who had a far lower offensive ceiling than Abreu.

I’m just saying, give him playing time. Ride the wave until it breaks. If he slumps hard, you can always bench him again.

But if the guy has the potential to even come close to what he’s done his entire career (which he’s done in a small sample size already) you have to ride that wave.

  • MetsLGM

226 average against suggests he can

  • Pedro’s Rooster

You’re saying that Abreu has the same range as Granderson and CY? I’m not confident in that.

Hank Aaron was a good hitter, too. A long time ago. I do not want Hank or Bobby as full-time OFers. Give the starts to den Dekker, Kirk, Campbell, Puello–somebody with some hope.

We’re not going anywhere in 2014. Giving starts to Abreu is nonsensical.

  • MyasDaddy

I gave you the nod earlier when saying Abreu/Beltran have very similar offensive statistics. However, in this case there is no reason a 40-year old 5th OF should have a spot on this team. This team isn’t ready to win now, it needs to start plugging young guys and seeing what they can do.

  • Frank Francisco

Yep. Dilson Herrera & Vic Black == Upton and Teheran. That’s exactly what I said.

  • Manuel1991

    Lets go minute rice

  • KMO82

    How many walks?

  • MikePiazza3186

    Thank you

  • Frank Francisco

You could have said the same exact thing about Byrd last year. It’s a similar scenario, except Abreu has a higher offensive ceiling but a lower defensive ceiling.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    League average pen. Haha

  • Destry

We all said the other day that Rice should never face righties, and Hurdle pinch hits Sanchez, who kills LHP, and Terry Leaves him in. Funny, I remember TC pinch hitting CY against a righty yesterday, and DUda against a LHP

  • sperry

How the hell does he do that but drops a simple throw from 90 feet

  • amarksupreme

    nice murph

  • MyasDaddy

I am not giving credit to a 40-year old OFer who has no business being on this team.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

Keith sounds like he’s been reaching under the table for that jug of Chardonnay.

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Fair points, my friend. I also felt Byrd was a bit of a joke, but he did turn into something. And Abreu did have a lot of great tools.

Maybe he has one last run in him–which honestly, from a fan persepctive, would be cool to see.

Thanks for being good-natured about the b@ll-busting. 🙂

  • MetsLGM

Its like he likes to do the harder plays but cant get the easy ones so odd

  • amarksupreme

    havent we all

  • Mets Fan in Paris

ha…i was just typing, “another 1 run game” just as he said it

  • MetsfanInParadise

From the frying pan into the fire with Papa Flambe

  • Frank Francisco

And no, when have I eve advocated benching Granderson for Abreu? Dont put words into my mouth.

And no he doesn’t have the range of CY, not even close, but does CY have the bat of Abreu? Look at it both ways.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    nice grab by murph

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Dr. Andrews says the amount players throw is the single most contributing factor.

  • Manuel1991

Murph just saved you from going bk to AAA scott minute rice

  • tacknaf

b/c we have players that have no power

  • Destry

I think he has ADD. Someone else mentioned it the other day, and I think they are right on.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

I like to keep it wedged between the knees.

  • amarksupreme

with the extra long silly straw

  • donobrien

Let’s hear it for Murphy, especially from the Murphy haters.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    He’s a true Met? lol

  • amarksupreme

    i think he has HDADD

  • Destry

We also don’t have a manager that would ever get a good matchup for his hitters like Hurdle just did.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

Yeah, the straw’s good when you’re at work.

  • FML it’s Velveeta time.

  • tacknaf

    Valverde sucks so bad

  • MetsLGM

On cue valverde screws up, why didnt they keep black and get rid of him?

  • Destry

OK. Cause the kids are crushing it?

  • MyasDaddy

Another roster spot being taken by an aging Vet. When a guy like Black should be here earning his stripes.

  • donobrien

Wright gets a pass and that’s OK.

  • NewYorkMammoths
  • BurnInHellWilpons

    valverede sucks

  • MetsLGM

Doesnt hide his pitches very well its like look people see what grip i have on the baseball so you may hit it very hard !

  • Manuel1991

    FUCCCCCCXCCKKKK!!!!

  • KMO82

    Papa Grande strikes!

  • Destry

    ADHD?

  • tacknaf

aaaaand i just wasted my whole afternoon watching this ugh

  • HarveyKsYou

    And they blow the game.

  • Metropolitan

    FIRE SANDY ALDERSON!!

  • MikePiazza3186

Thanks sandy your bullpen is magical

  • Super T

LOL, okay now you’re talking out of both sides of your mouth. Your supporting argument for the poor “Runs” & “ERA” stats all along has been that “we can’t take certain games out” and now when I present you with a stat that shows the Mets pitching is good, you counter with it being a proponent of Citi Field and what if we take that out? So which side of the fence do you stand on? The games all count, or certain factors do in fact effect the stats?

  • WilponsNeed2Go

DeGrom can thank Terry for blowing his first win, with another flash of incompetence.

  • NYM86

    LOL

  • amarksupreme

DeGrom’s gonna try and stow away in Ike’s luggage when he leaves town

  • MyasDaddy

The kids should be playing. That’s the argument.

  • MikePiazza3186

    A fukin men!!!!!

  • Manuel1991

    #Fireterry

  • NYM86

    #FireTerry #FireAlderson #FtheWilpons

  • tacknaf

can you imagine what garbage the wilpons would bring in to replace him??

  • MetsLGM

Degrom is this years harvey as far as that run support goes, he should be 3-0 on a normal team with these starts he has had or at the very least 2-1

  • mynewdisqusname

    welcome to the Met’s kid.

  • Chris H

    Valverde sucks release him

  • Third great start in a row that deGrom will fail to get a win.

  • mr1313

That sucks for DeGrom. SP’s on this team have it rough.

  • Waz0787

    Lol mets are pathetic

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Way to hold the runner Valverde, ya bum!

  • no me hechas la culpa !

  • HarveyKsYou

Hey Harvey made 22 great ones last year and got nine wins.

  • BurnInHellWilpons

    welcome to the mets…

  • MetsLGM

Couldve kept familia in there instead of burning through your bullpen arms like firewood so we wouldnt have to see this bum

  • Waz0787

    Lol. 68 wins baseball team

  • QueensRussell

    Valverde=Cabbage Fart!

  • Taskmaster4450

This inning is over if Collins guards the line.

For 100 years managers do that to prevent doubles late in games.

    Not Terrible Terry though.

He is smarter than everyone else.

  • Tommy

yep! still don’t understand how he can continue to manage this team! They should fire him & make Valverde & Rice carry his bags and leave with him! They both stink, yet he continues giving them crucial moments in games!

  • Tom

Guy pitched in both games yesterday. That was not an option.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

I don’t really care about his record right now. He looks like a great piece in years to come.

  • NYM86

DeGrom probably wishes he were still in AAA. Truthfully who would want to join this mess? I wouldn’t.

  • BurnInHellWilpons

    cabbage fart?..thats a new one..

  • PatrickMets

I couldn’t stand valverde and his lame antics before he came to the mets, now I detest him

  • Waz0787

    :-/

  • QueensRussell

Abreu in right, late in the game…stupid

  • MetsLGM

still pitched today though so why not 1 or two more extra batters and piggy back off rice, at all cost dont have valverde in there

  • Chris H

Well we finally scored a run in a game he pitched today. Progress lol

  • Nailed it.

  • BurnInHellWilpons

    valverde in the game. period……stupid

  • Metropolitan

Those booos are getting vicious….i love it

  • amarksupreme

and all 40 people in the stands are booing

  • Tom

Lets not blow out another young power arm by overusing him. Terry already pushed DeGrom. Face it we had a disadvantage thanks to that doubleheader yesterday.

  • MyasDaddy

Been saying that for weeks as well as Keith

  • Moneyball says that fielding = 5% of the game.

Sandy actually was passing around a pamphlet saying that..

  • WilponsNeed2Go

    11 men LOB today.

  • Joanie Yan

Whoever said deGrom should pitch well enough to earn his first no decision was right on.
The Pirates stink even more than we do but they have a real manager making moves.

  • Anthony

    So predictable

  • MetsfanInParadise

8 minutes ago: “From the frying pan into the fire with Papa Flambe.” Sometimes I hate being right

  • tacknaf

    exactly

  • Super T

SMH, start deGrom & Ervin Santana today in my fantasy league and have now lost both my wins. I hate the “wins” category. Hardest to get imo.

  • Arjun Vidudala

    lol booing valverde

  • MetsfanInParadise

Yeah, where the hell was MDD?

  • Nimmofan25

And it would be the best thing that happened to them. Losing could only help in more then 1 way.

  • HarveyKsYou

I’m guessing a lot or people left then?

  • tacknaf

    lol

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Grandy must be displeased. He thinks fans should applaud his 0 for 3 1SO, 1LOB performance.

  • Destry

Can anyone honestly tell me that you can’t see a difference in Hurdle’s late game management of his players, and Terry COllins?

  • MyasDaddy

Well Terry, you could’ve double switched MDD in the ballgame for Abreu. And left Familia out there to pitch the 8th… But no….

  • Anthony

    Why

  • Taskmaster4450

Keith has been saying it for 3 years.

  • tacknaf

Grampa Terry forgot they called him up… plus he is subconsciously mad at him for taking his boy EYJ’s place

  • amarksupreme

thats an insult to all the fine cabbage farts Ive known over the years

  • MikePiazza3186

Can we hit a hr for Christ sake

  • QueensRussell

because he sucks as a defensive outfielder

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • Metropolitan

No surprise Collins loves the washed up Veteran

  • Andrew Herbst

Why did TC not let Familia pitch the 8th?

  • Chris H

Montero and deGrom already hate this team lol

  • Destry

He does the dumbest double switches, and he doesn’t double switch when he should.

  • Waz0787

    Mets organization is garbage

  • Tango01

There goes Terry with his righty lefty match ups. Whatever moves he makes turns into crap and Clint’s moves are paying off. Hopefully fans are chanting Terry must go!

  • MetsLGM

Yeah, having black up here and this conversation wouldnt happen, vegas isnt really a helpful place to tone your craft as a pitcher just have him up here and figure it out, black will always walk people though from what im hearing hes getting guys out too add the fact he is young and can be electric when on. while valverde constantly sucks because he is old and is like showing his grip on the baseball like always like hey man dont tip off your pitches !

  • QueensRussell

How about we bat around this inning!!!

  • tacknaf

so… thoughts on how the Mets lose this one? HR in the 9th? WP in extra innings?

  • KMO82

What do you guys think we can get for Dice-K?

  • QueensRussell

    Or go 1, 2, 3

  • MyasDaddy

    Story of my life.

  • Anthony

I meant why is he out there i agree

  • MetsLGM

uh oh here comes a mets rally ! right back to the batters bench lol

  • Waz0787

Degrom has been fabulous all his start. Really don’t know what else to ask to win games

  • donobrien

But he may be the one guy who can hit a HR and we need offense really badly.

  • Tom

Wut… You’re just looking to complain I see. This place is becoming a circlejerk.

For the record, I hate Valverde with a fiery passion and wish he disappeared from the game 2 years ago, but the last thing I care about is watching some young pitcher who cna’t throw a strike at the majors in the bullpen. That is ripe for getting him ripped.

  • Metropolitan

    Wright you’re so weak..

  • NYM86

3 run 11th for the Pirates after we have back-back innings in the 9, 10th with men in scoring position and fail to score. Something like that.

  • QueensRussell

Cripes, it’s like these guys don’t get enough protein!!!

  • Anthony

The 15th inning on a homer

  • KMO82

With less than 2 outs, thats the trick lol.

  • HarveyKsYou

    And the offense continues.

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

A new cook at the Shake Shack.

  • Phoenix Met

TC would probably ask for Jason Giambi

  • QueensRussell

Grandy looks foolish. Takes the meatballs and swings at crap.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    sounds about right

  • Kevin H

    More Valverde??? Ugh…

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    That feels right.

  • Jimmy Broadway

Sad, but this team plays to lose

  • amarksupreme

Valverde pitching the 9th? Really? get Recker in there

  • Waz0787

    My
    Entire
    Team
    Sucks

  • MetsLGM

no, assuming things isnt the way to go im just stating my opinions. Young guys getting opportunities are far better than has been veterans that couldnt latch on anywhere but here

  • BurnInHellWilpons

valverde going out for the 9th… are we trying to lose?

  • tacknaf

yeah I see based loaded no out in the 10th and we don’t score… lose in the 11th on a 2 run HR

  • QueensRussell

    Troll, please shut up!

  • NYM86

That and I forgot to add the K’s looking too lol

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Valverde going back out in the 9th is akin to Manager Malpractice.

  • Pedro’s Rooster

This is going to go well. I can feel it.

  • MikePiazza3186

Did you make that one up yourself?

  • Destry

He didn’t exactly manage the pen brilliantly yesterday. He had an extra arm and didn’t use him, but used Mejia in a game we were losing.

  • Tom

Young guys who deserve to get opportunities, should get opportunities. Black does not fit that description until he stops walking a batter an inning.

  • donobrien

The money is better and the food, too.

  • BurnInHellWilpons

    isnt*

  • Anthony

Like an engine with no oil

  • According to a new advanced metric that measures hard hit balls, the Mets have Wright and Duda in the top five in the game. Let’s Go Mets!

  • Metropolitan

two out walk just what we needed

  • Kevin H

    Kyle Farnsworth

  • Destry

Terry Collins has a lot to do with that.

  • MetsLGM

A bases loaded balk, :p you guys remember that do you ?

  • tacknaf

Abreu will walk too… bank on it

  • Waz0787

    Truth hurts

  • QueensRussell

    Rally Time!

  • Waz0787

    Nah stole t from metropolitan

  • Andrew Herbst

Why didn’t he pinch hit Soup for Duda?

  • Tom

WHAT?!>? We were not losing that game, it was tied when Mejia came in. SHow me a manager in this league who doesn’t use their closer in the 9th in a tie game at home.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

You can’t be serious, Mr. D.

  • NYM86

Sad part is even if we win these clowns will celebrate like it’s some type of accomplishment. Yea woohoo!

  • KMO82

Well, I think David has hit into some tough luck, just like in this game but for Duda, yeah he may hit it “hard” but they shift the whole team to the one spot he hits it so it makes it tough lol. He he wants to get out of that category he needs to start hitting it the other way.

  • LOL pure sarcasm.

  • QueensRussell

    that’s what worries you!

  • MetsfanInParadise

Apparently that’s a meaningless measurement, because it clearly doesn’t translate into runs or wins. Just because something can be quantified doesn’t make it useful

  • tacknaf

Grampa Terry is asleep dude.. it’s a really hot day

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

I was about to mail my eyeballs to the Mayo Clinic.

  • Chris H

Lucky we got the call reversed or we would be losing now. It’s like a war battle to get 2 runs for this team can’t ask for 3 that’s going way overboard

  • Andrew Herbst

You’re right. I should have known.

  • amarksupreme

is Valverde first on that list? oh, wrong list. thats the hard hit balls against list

  • Waz0787

Real. Mets fan. Tired of lies

  • MikePiazza3186

U just know valverde is gonna give up a run this inning

  • MetsLGM

Im feeling a grand slam after terry refuses to pull him out

  • QueensRussell

    Clam up, Troll.

  • Destry

No, Im just saying, If you’re gonna use that argument against the offense, then you have to against the pitching. If you apply the same rules to both sides, you will finally understand what Im talking about. We’ve scored 4 runs or more 28 times this year. We’re 22-28 with “good” pitching.

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • Manuel1991

    Bullpen help

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Not leaving Familia in to pitch the 8th, has got to be a critical error on the part of the manager. The BP was spent over the last two days, and Terry tries to use Rice as a spot appearance, knowing that Valverde will have to pitch 2+ innings. Unbelievable mistake. Will it cost use the game?

  • Chris H

Can we just give the Astros Valverde to. Sorta like a gift lol

  • Arjun Vidudala

terrible pitcher guy was throwing everythin over the heart of the plate

  • BurnInHellWilpons

    they dont want him

  • QueensRussell

Watching Valverde pitch now is just cruel and unusual.

  • MyasDaddy

Maybe Abreu could net George Springer and Mark Appel.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

I think they pitch Valverde just to torture Met fans

  • BurnInHellWilpons

it is cruel.. but its usual. you can expect this every outing from him

  • amarksupreme

i have alot to do today, but I cant stop watching! gotta see how they blow this one

  • MetsLGM

Thats like leaving a burnt bag of poop at the front door and then running off

  • amarksupreme

ibreak out the memorial day grilli

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Alright guys at least give Valverde props for being consistant

  • Destry

Not to mention, he got Rice matched up against 2 RH batters and one LH batter, and he could’ve double switched CY or MDD in as a defensive replacement for Abreu with a 2-0 lead

  • Waz0787

Being a mets fan is a curse

  • MetsLGM

Like leaving a burnt bag of poop at the doorstep and then running off

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    So it begins

  • Chris H

Can’t wait for Gee to come back so I don’t have to watch this garbage pitch anymore

  • amarksupreme

but coming back to re light it every 2 to 3 days

  • That Valverde came out for the ninth is somewhat appalling with a dash of horrific.

  • NYM86

lol it doesn’t ‘worry’ me I just don’t like seeing them act like walkoffs count as 3 W’s.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    Please STOP, MY EYES

  • rubagreta

Yes. If the Mets lose this one, it’s another one based on a ridiculous pitching change. After a bad start, Familia has a 2.08 ERA in his last 10 appearances. He’s a 24-year-old stud who finally seems to have found himself. And TC takes him out. WHY?

  • MetsfanInParadise

    it starts…

  • Metropolitan

oh no the woooos are starting

  • Kevin H

It’s like watching a slow motion train wreck.

  • Andrew Herbst

Gee better come back soon so we can DFA Valverde.

  • Destry

And he’s letting him face McClutch

  • MetsLGM

Andrew cant wait to blast this 400 feet plus to center

  • QueensRussell

Gee will be back in mid-September

  • That’s the horrific part.

  • NYM86

He looks very diminutive at the plate this year. I don’t know if he lost a lot of weight or muscle but he doesn’t look like a threat at the plate anymore.

  • amarksupreme

    headed for a fireworks factory

  • QueensRussell

Thank Goodness, Warthen is out there.

  • mr1313

They figured might as well kill his arm seeing he will be released after the game. I just wish TC was released with him.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    it continues…

  • MetsLGM

He looks frustrated, why? Doesnt he know he sucks ? Someone tell him

  • Mets Fan in Paris

If it’s only 400ft then Lagares will eat it up! 🙂

  • Anthony

A strong sense of impending doom

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

I dont care if they are ready or not! BRING ONE OF THEM IN

  • Metropolitan

    sarcasm ,right?

  • MetsLGM

    Like planned 🙂

  • It really boggles my mind that some fans defend Terry Collins tooth and nail whenever I kill him in a post.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Fans will tell him when he blows the lead

  • Andrew Herbst

    Bring in Torres.

  • QueensRussell

Are you from NY or Idaho?

  • Waz0787

Only way I would be happy is Wilpons sells the team or else this crap will continue

  • NYM86

Ter-ry Sucks! Ter-ry Sucks! Please get some chants going!!

  • tacknaf

just the fact that Terry thought Valverde could get a 4 out save is enough reason to fire him

  • Andrew Herbst

There should be a We Want Wally Chant!

  • WilponsNeed2Go

It was kinda in the cards after Familia was prevented from pitching the 8th. This was the critical error. Torres, Mejia and Dice K were spent yesterday.

  • Anthony

How is no one warmed up

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • QueensRussell

Great, Gary is talking Punk Rock!

  • Jgreen

    #FreeValverdefromMets

  • tacknaf

Gary a NY Dolls and Johnny Thunders fan? lol nice

  • Destry

What is wrong witH TC Joe? Is he doing it on purpose? Look at Hurdle’s late game management. He actually got a good matchup for a pinch hitter. Imagine that?

  • MetsLGM

Try and throw underhanded jose, something new would work anything than what youre doing

  • MetsfanInParadise

he has long outlived whatever usefulness he had

  • Chris H

Why would anyone else is this league not want to sign Valerde he could really help your bullpen lol

  • TheMets philosophy

Well who else is supposed to pitch the mets tont have anyone. But the idea that Valverde is better then Black at this point is insane

  • amarksupreme

pirates are obviously intimidated by velveeta

  • TheMets philosophy

    Dfa him pleaase effing now!!!!

  • amarksupreme

    there we go

  • Anthony

    Wtf was that

  • Tom

    Well that’s a shame.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Don’t blame the batboy-they don’t say “keep your eye on the bat”

  • mr1313

    That’s the game folks.

  • tacknaf

Valverde is a piece of SH&^#&%&%# CUT HIM NOW

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Silver lining–bye-bye Valverde

  • BurnInHellWilpons

    garbage

  • RyanF55

Not only does Valverde suck, he didn’t even back up the dish. Good god.

  • Kevin H

Nice back up Valverde. Did you want Centeno to give you a piggy back to the ball after he missed it.

  • QueensRussell

    Vent, my people, vent!

  • Andrew Herbst

Please cut Valverde and fire TC after the game.

  • amarksupreme

    now terry double switches

  • Tommy

THIS MANAGER SHOULD BE FIRED SIMPLY FOR THIS 1 GAME! I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS GUY? IS THE FRONT OFFICE WATCHING? DO THEY SEE WHAT HE DOES? WHAT HE HAS DONE TO DESTROY THIS GAME & DESTROY THE SEASON?

  • MikePiazza3186

It’s very sad to say but I hate this team!!

  • Jgreen

    GET BEHIND OF CATCHER VALVERDE

  • MetsLGM

Valverde 3 year contract extension for 30 million keep the core in there

  • Metropolitan

The Mets are gonna play the game the right way…..right Terry

  • Selltheteam06

who says baseball is unpredictable? I’m bored

  • QueensRussell

Good they brought in MDD, lest this thing gets out of hand.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

TYPICAL FU*KIN* COLLINS HE BRINGS HIM IN AFTER HE GIVES UP THE LEAD WHAT THE HELL IS THIS I HATE WATCHING THIS TEAM AND I HOPE TERRY GET FIRED.

  • Arjun Vidudala

i cant believe i just saw what i saw smh

  • iwamofo

    Vic Black over Valderde

  • Bobby O

It all started for me this game when Grandpa pulled Familia after just 1 batter for Rice. Terry has got to anticipate Hurdle PH for Davis who doesn’t play vs. LHP in Pitts. for Sanchez who lifetime mashes LHP- .301 BA & .897 OPS.

  • tacknaf

oh great NOW Den Decker comes in.. How is Valverde still on this team. How could Vic Black possibly be worse

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Oh look the double switch Terry should have made 4 runs and 2 innings ago.

  • ArchieBellandTheDrells

Fire Collins. DFA Valverde. F the Wilpons.

  • Chris H

    Seasons over on Memorial Day

  • Kevin H

    Valverde or TC?

  • TheMets philosophy

This feels like a kick in the balls @#?*%

  • Waz0787

Yes yes yes yes it’s like TC is trying to lose by purpose lol. Mets sucks boyz

  • Arjun Vidudala

valverde why do they let them him even pitch super booing lol

  • MetsLGM

Should have had MDD in there to start with he is a stud defensively, something you need with Jose out there, its like they cant be proactive for once, stop being reactive once we’ve lose the game already smh

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

OH YEA WE GOT VIC BLACK IN THE MINORS BUT LETS LEAVE THIS SCRUB ON THE TEAM AND LET HIM BLOW GAMES AND SAVES HOW MANY GAMES HAS HE BLOWN NOW DOES ANYONE HAVE A COUNT

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

While we’re trashing people? Centeno looks as bad behind the plate as anyone I’ve seen in recent years.

  • MetsfanInParadise

There are at least 6 other games about which you could have said the same thing. Over an entire season, that’s 20 losses. It’s impossible to believe the front office can ignore it much longer, as much as Sandy loves him. There is just no way to defend this level of incompetence.

  • Kevin H

We wish. I don’t see it happening. I hope I’m wrong.

  • what did i do now ????

  • Arjun Vidudala

TC lost this one for us, if we had torres available then y the hell did they use valverde?

  • metsjetsfan

Maybe Collins purposefully left Valverde in there cause he knew he was going to fail and thought it can get him released? Nahh, Collins is just plain dumb.

  • mr1313

I wish the fans would start the “We Want Wally!” chant.

  • Dio

season has been over. this was the worst bullpen management and replacement/switch management ive seen in a long time. ive been sympathetic to tc on some issues in the past but this has been god awful. mistake after mistake after move not made after move not made. absolutely disgusting baseball.

  • tacknaf

on the bright side, at least we wont have to watch extra innings

  • Anthony

    This team is an embarrassment

  • MetsfanInParadise

Or at least brought him in for defense

  • WilponsNeed2Go

That 4th run was on you bub.

  • NYM86

I’m literally sick to my stomach everytime I remind myself we have to watch 33 year old, no arm, SO king Granderson for the next 3 1/2 years.

  • KMO82

Tell them to turn the plane around and get Black back here, time to dump Papa Grande.

  • Jgreen

Maybe he can blow something else really well for Terry too.

  • Arjun Vidudala

this is not even on the offense, totally on TC

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

Hehe…just yankin’ yer chain, my brother.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

TERRY better get fired after this game

  • am i supposed to pitch the ball too ?

  • Ace719

I hate this team I’m so done. Sorry guys but I can’t do this anymore I’m putting in my divorce papers today.

  • metsjetsfan

    Papa Worthless

  • pepe

So very true. Why did he bring in Valverde? Why?

  • 94SupraTT

Valverde is good, he’s just struggling right now. We need to put him back in the closer role where he is comfortable. I really believe he has a good 3 or 4 years left in him so an extention wouldn’t really be a bad thing with his value low right now. Get it done sandy.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Papa Flambe

  • Embarrassing. We are cursed with God awful ownership, a smug do-nothing front office, and incompetent manager and coaching. Failure is an option with these guys.

  • Arjun Vidudala

the team is mediocre but TC is wow i mean WOW

  • MyasDaddy

How many games has the bullpen blows since 2008 when leading heading into the 8th inning?

  • donobrien

NOW torres is in. The horse is out of the barn. NOW they pull Valverde????

  • o look, terry finally overules Sandy, has MDD play RF

    Defense wins

  • MetsLGM

Torres in there an inning too late. Though i can feel comfortabe with torres up there. 1 run though seems like such a daunting task for this team

  • NYM86

Looks like I gave them too much credit, I at least thought we’d manage to get to extra’s burn out all our BP and still lose.

  • metsjetsfan

  • TheMets philosophy

I hate terry but cant get mad at him its sandy’s fault he hass this monkey on the teem..i personaly think terry left him in on to get rid of him and send a message to the GM

  • with a man on 3rd in a close game, i just blocked 2 balls in the dirt…

    give me some credit !

  • billpulsipher

    troll^ get lost

  • billpulsipher

    agreed

  • The most athletic weatherman

Just pathetic. I can’t take Collins’ in game decisions anymore. Worst manager in baseball plain and simple.

  • willywater88

Welcome back to the majors Vic Black. You are here to stay this time.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

No, you’re supposed to catch balls thrown at the plate by the OF. But you are only a minor problem, you’ll be gone by Thursday.

  • MikePiazza3186

Terry has to go after the game right?

  • Destry

Ha. Now he double switches just in case Hurdle wants to matchup a LHP on MDD, and save his closer. Nice Terry

  • Waz0787

    Hahahaha

  • metsjetsfan

    Did you have a prenup?

  • Beer league bs. SIGH

  • Chris H

SA said the bullpen is easy to piece together. Does SA even think you need a bullpen lol

  • Andrew Herbst

He does, but he’ll still be our manager tomorrow.

  • Jimmy Broadway

This might seal TC’s fate, he cannot manage baseball. High school softball is where he belongs

  • 94SupraTT

    Reported.

  • metsjetsfan

    ^10

  • Ace719

Nope the mets can take it all I just want a clean break

  • PatrickMets

  • Selltheteam06

The FO is not going to pay for a new manager, TC makes the lowest in the MLB

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

All we gotta do now is hope the mets lose 100 this year so it forces these morons in the front office to fire terry

  • HawkZon

de Grom is getting the Harvey treatment.

  • Failure is fine as long as they can hang on and build their mall.

  • Metropolitan

degrom is thinking .I hope they trade me

  • Selltheteam06

This is the Mets form of hazing. Welcome to the bigs deGrom!

  • owlnut

Minor league team posing as a major league team. Pathetic!

  • metsjetsfan

“Terry Collins is doing a fine job”- Sandy

  • Kevin H

They’re not going to pay TC to do nothing for a season and a half. We’re stuck with this bum.

  • mr1313

Just shut it off. I can’t take anymore.

  • sperry

Again guys. It’s may and Collins has another year on his contract. This ownership cut a guy to save like 500K. They aren’t paying Collins to go away.

  • NYM86

Posted this 3 hours ago in the Syndergaard thread: “Time to tune out of the season for good. If the ownership, the front office and the coaching staff aren’t going to care about winning there’s no point in wasting our time & energy watching these bums. Don’t watch, don’t go, f the Wilpons, f Alderson and let it get so embarrassing TC is used as their scape goat. Then we have to hope Saul is hell bent on selling (after subsidizing a full summer of 5k attendances) screwing the Wilpons and then new ownership ousts Alderson.”

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    Does TC have a twitter?

  • MetsLGM

Sandy hard at work on that mets bullpen

  • Nolrog

Exactly what I said yesterday. Poor in game strategy. No reason they aren’t playing no doubles defense up by a run in the 8th.

  • Waz0787

    Lol

  • owlnut

It starts with the owners and goes down to the players.

  • MetsfanInParadise

I’m done. Honestly going to go and look for another team to cheer for at this point. I’ve been a fan since 1999 but this is just it.

  • MikePiazza3186

90 wins hahahahha I just pissed myself

  • Andrew Herbst

Does Sandy still think TC is motivating the players?

  • Ace719

I’m officially on strike until the manager gets fired #FireTerry

  • Destry

Guys, if you can’t see that Collins is giving these games away almost daily, I really don’t know what to else to say. They players constantly put the team in a position to win, and he constantly takes it away from them. He never gets his bench players or bullpen guys in good matchups the way other managers do. Its really really embarrassing for his players.

  • konyc

Is it just me, or do we intentionally walk someone in the 9th every day?

  • metsjetsfan

The Wilpons should refund every single fan who has ever gone to any of their games for allowing this garbage to occur.

  • PatrickMets

    See ya

  • MetsLGM

Wonder who would be available in next years draft? Top 5 pick here we come 🙂

  • MikePiazza3186

I don’t blame you but when we win don’t be a poser mets fan

  • Manuel1991

    #Fireterry

  • Metropolitan

    wheels off

  • tacknaf

    oh the humanity

  • NYM86

Question for everyone here. Does watching a stream of the game count as a view for SNY? If not I encourage you all, if you’re going to watch the games to watch them on the computer and not give the Wilpons your viewership.

  • Kevin H

    Don’t hold your breath.

  • TheMets philosophy

Just a Question: with the mets knowing they would be short on releivers today why didnt they bring up black over Den decker?? Or send down Dice-K for a few days since he cant pitch anyway??

  • Manuel1991

Boycott until terry collins is fired

  • Metropolitan

Gary just stop please that idea will never work the DH can be a big paying job

  • konyc

I’m following this on MLB Gameday. Did a pitcher batting .000 just get a hit against us?

  • MetsLGM

But losing is fun ! complaining is what we do like its our job !

  • Chris H

Sooner or later you got to cut your losses. If they keep playing like this the next 2 weeks as hard as it is for SA to admit defeat I think you will see Collins gone

  • MetsfanInParadise

man, I wish that run had scored-would’ve made Valverde’s line look even worse

  • JasonBoy

I’m not, I went through 07-13 but I can’t with Collins, amazing job by the rest of the team and he keeps Valverde in for what

  • MikePiazza3186

This is like watching a prison movie rape scene!!

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Chickens coming home to roost after Terry used too many BP pitchers over the last two days. Torres should not have pitched today and is absolutely drained.

  • MetsfanInParadise
  • Joanie Yan

No, but Sandy Alderson does @MetsGM (even though he hardly uses it)

  • Destry

How many managers will throw a young kid in his 3rd start 122 pitches, AND THEN mismanage the bullpen.

  • MetsLGM

    with no lube

  • amarksupreme

being directed by a senile old lady

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    I would rather watch that..

  • Wolfmicky21

    Since 1999!?!? Wow!

  • MikePiazza3186

    Lol that’s wearing #10

  • Mike C

So Davey and Willie were fired shortly after playoff births but Terry is still managing w no rumors. Wilpons: SELL THE TEAM!!!!

  • metsjetsfan

Let’s hope the new commissioner forces them to sell the team. This is beyond ridiculous now.

  • NYM86

What happens if you don’t begin rooting for another team? Is it ok then? Because the only team I’ll ever root for is the Mets and I don’t enjoy watching other teams I just can’t stand watching TC every game anymore. I hate him, such a smug little looking prick too.

  • i will hit a 3 run home-run to tie this game

    #WatchMe

  • JasonBoy

my point exactly, if he was gonna have Valverde blow the game later, he should’ve pulled Degrom in the 5th

  • Chris H

    TC is a twit

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Nope sorry your down by 4

  • ifti99

Are we still going to win 90 games?

  • MetsfanInParadise

Nothing wrong with deGrom’s pitch count

  • Mike C

Your hired!! Would take u over duda or CY

  • Kevin H

    Same with Bobby V.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

To the Wilpons “I will manage for free!”

  • MikePiazza3186

Do your heart a favor and quit now sounds like a mets ad

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

Sure…except it will take the Mets this season and into May of next year to get those 90 wins.

The team is an utter disgrace.

  • Mike C

At this rate i am hoping for 70

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

Your PR guy deserves a raise. He had us all thinking you were a defensive jewel.

  • Destry

When you send someone down they have to stay in the minors for 10 days, but bringing MDD up was stupid if you’re going to play Abreu 8 innings in the field anyway.

  • LMAOOOO

    with much better records !

  • konyc

Good thing we’re only playing the next 13 days straight, then.

  • Metropolitan

    big whoop

  • metsjetsfan

Of course he hits a HR now

  • mr1313

I guarantee 50 percent of Mets fans can manage better than TC.

Cue the “Duda only hits solo shots” non-sense.

  • tacknaf

    big whoop

  • Andrew Herbst

Duda is the king of solo homers.

  • Chris H

Duda homer with no one on. Just what we need. Thanks lucas

  • Mike C

    Yup! Bobby too

  • Kevin H

    Now he hits a HR…

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Too bad he can’t do that with runners on base.

  • TheMets philosophy

There is the Lucas we know and miss the guy who hits pointless homeruns

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

  • MikePiazza3186

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    Just like Wright.

  • Destry

110 OK, not recommended. 115 getting very risky, especially for a young guy in MAY. 120+ is an absolute NO NO everytime in this situation

    Fire Collins!!!

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

  • JRB74

PLEASE release Valverde TODAY! And send Rice to Vegas while you’re at it. Rice has been totally ineffective this year as well–the lefty specialist who can’t get lefties out.

  • MattHarvey’sEgo

People just want to blame Duda for something. They’ll blame him for striking out and they’ll blame him for hitting a solo shot. Hell, might as well just blame him for the bullpen melting down, too.

  • Chris H

I understand he leaves 7 men on two days ago and 6 yesterday. Your right he is sad.

I concur. Black should have stayed over MDD for at least 2 more G.

  • jjong

Now, Now, they can turn it around for the better. Give it until end of June before closing the season.

There you go boys and girls you got to see our great manager Terry Collins and how Sandy said a month ago what a great job Terry has done. He over manages and over thinks everything. Has no gut feeling and I’m tired of watching him play with his pen and staring at his book all game long. I’ve never seen a manager who constantly has his head in that book instead of the game. Our only hope is for Sal to sell his share and to get the wheels in motion.

Anyone else wonder how many innings JP Ricciardi and Paul dePodesta watched this weekend? We pay these clowns more than half the guys on the roster and in 4 years I haven’t heard either utter a single comment in reference to the Mets yet. It’s nice to have a team run by guys – Sandy included – with about as much emotional investment in this franchise as the guys working the Pat Lafreida stand.

  • Metropolitan

Okay how about Terry why is he still here??

    Hudgens too.

  • HawkZon

    WOW!!

  • Out of place Mets fan

I like the 26th man rule for double headers, but they need to be utilized for it to be an advantage. Instead had Edgin, Torres, and Familia up twice yesterday and then 2 of them today with another week before a day off

  • Matt Mosher

    Hudgens got fired???!!! YES!!!!

    IT’S OVAA!! DON’TCHU UNDERSTAND!! WE’RE SINKING!!

  • dave27a

Why should Valverde be gone? Terry had an extra reliever yesterday, but instead of using him, he uses Mejia twice, leaves himself with a short pen today, and exposes Valverde in a spot he doesn’t belong in. You can rearrange the deck chairs all you want but Collins is still steering straight for the iceberg.

  • Chipie

“Our hitting approach will not change”-Sandy

  • Destry

Finally. Hudgens fired, and Valverde released. Sandy is serious. He and Hudgens go way way back

  • Dio

our hitting approach will not change… lol

  • Bobby O

Lamar Johnson the Mets new HC

  • sperry

Hudgens fired but the approach won’t change?

So then what the hell was the point

  • BurnInHellWilpons

    not terry…but ill take it!

Cosmetic. Throwing the ballast overboard, that’s all.

They’re both idiots. They all need to go.

Surprised Sandy released Valverde and his philosophy hitting coach in Hudgen

  • Destry

Mets 7-17 in May. I don’t see how Terry can survive this.

  • jimmy705

    Have fun, Task!

  • NYM86

Those moves mean nothing!! TC and the approach is the problem! Now we have to hope Johnson ignores Sandy’s ridiculous philosophy.

  • amarksupreme

sorry but I enjoy Bartolo. no Colon fat jokes from me. I never liked Valturdy

  • mr mojo risin

I wonder if they let Ike tell Hudgens he was fired

  • Taskmaster4450

You really think DePo is watching major league games a few weeks before the draft?

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    Yay, flotsam!

  • mr1313

Don’t stop there Sandy! TC needs to go yesterday.

  • Anthony

Firing hudgens is a band aid for a bleeding artery. Whatever a gutless move that will change nothing , good riddance valverde

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    Post more!

  • dave27a

You missed my point like Duda misses a 2-0 fastball down the pipe.

  • Destry

Using Mejia in the first game yesterday didn’t make any sense. Especially when he told the kid he would be careful with him, and he used him twice. He really needed him today.

  • Chris H

Even though SA said the approach won’t change a lot anytime you bring in a new guy he has his own technique so I don’t believe it won’t change. It has to

  • Hudgens fired? Valverde released? Yawn.

  • Bobby O

Lamar Johnson has been the Mets minor league roving instructor since Omar

  • Chris H

Ask him about the 90 win thing KB. Put him in the fire lol

  • MetsLGM

sandy says “uhhhh” alot, BRAIN FART.

  • dave27a

Unlike Hudgens, he has more than 6 ABs in the major leagues.

  • jimmy705

But the approach won’t change…. I don’t know about “gutless,” but it sure seems cosmetic.

  • Anthony

You think it was terrys call?

  • Destry

He leads the team in HRs and one of our only power sources and he gets blamed for everything. How soon people forget he almost has as many HRs this year as Ike had the entire last season.

  • Dio

valverde looked very sad lol… i feel bad, being fired hurts.

  • Destry

Do you know what that % is?

  • Terry?

  • Taskmaster4450

Donald Trump was at the game so Alderson had him do it.

  • Anthony

    A covenient scapegoat

  • dave27a

Why change the approach? I’m sure there are lots of teams who have scored more than 5 runs in a home game ONCE in 20+ tries, and that was on the strength of a grand slam hit by a guy we traded because he didn’t buy into the approach.

  • beers22

If a guy’s (Valverde) going to be released for a bad performance why is he put in such an important position to begin with???? TC needs to be fired for his use of the pen too. Should have been Familia or Torres pitching in that situation with Mejia unavailable. Valverde should have never even seen this game.

  • Chris H

I’m telling you if they keep playing like this TC is gone in 2 weeks.

  • jimmy705

I don’t know about you all, but when Sandy signed Farnsworth and Valverde, I know I thought that those two were exactly the sort of long-term solution this team needed! I never would have guessed they’d both be gone by June….

  • Anthony

    Collins

  • people are reading too much into that. Generally speaking, the focus on OBP and selectivity might remain intact but there have to be changes. The methods belong to Hudge with the bases per outs and that sort of stuff

  • Destry

Our only power hitter. Yeah, if only Ike were here!!!!!!! Duda has 6 HRs in a 50 games. Ike had 9 all of last year.

  • MetsLGM

It’d be worth the two miserable weeks too

  • Dio

    can we fire cy too

  • I know who youre talking about. Not sure what he has to do with it tho

    http://metsblog.com/metsblog/breaking-down-the-mets-offense-hitting-coach-and-strategy/

Breaking down the Mets offense, hitting coach and strategy

    Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

Look, if you want Mets hitting Dave Hudgens fired, give it up. It’s not going to happen, nor should it. He’s Sandy Alderson’s guy, and it is Sandy’s hitting philosophy that Hudgens is working to implement through the entire organization.

They’re not going to abandon it because they had a difficult time for three days in Miami, against what is maybe the best pitching staff in baseball.

It has been 23 innings since the Mets last scored a run.

It was just four days ago, leaving Colorado, that they were being praised for scoring the sixth-most runs in the National League. Today, they are ninth, following three straight losses to the Marlins.

“It’s a whole different environment in Colorado than it is (at Marlins Park),” Hudgens said Wednesday (ESPN, May 8). “We hit some balls hard today, squared some balls up. Their pitching is really good.”

The goal isn’t to draw walks, Hudgens once told me. Instead, he said, the goal is to have a very refined strike zone, which will help hitters make better contact, which statistically translates in to more power.

It’s a good approach and one that is wise for an industry tilting toward and overvaluing young, hard-throwing, strikeout pitchers.

That said, MLB scouts have clearly caught on to what Sandy’s guys are doing in the big leagues. Opposing pitchers throw first-pitch strike after first-pitch strike, the Mets take, take and take, and are repeatedly being forced to hit from behind in the count. I understand the idea is to ‘hunt for strikes,’ as they say, but either Sandy needs better hunters or his hunters need better weapons… and they also need hits to start dropping again.

  • dave27a

Let me phrase that – the guys running this team couldn’t give two sh*ts if they ever actually improve.

JP and DePo are doing nothing but trying to put shiny prospects on their resumes, and Alderson is doing the longest favor of his life.

  • jimmy705

Anthony thought you were referring to Terry, not Sandy, when mentioning a “longtime friend.”

  • better be careful. You might get Cerrone angry and he’ll start posting your countless comments about Centeno’s amazing defense

  • rubagreta

Trying to be positive. De Grom is a keeper.

  • Destry

Im sure it wasn’t down the pipe. Did you track it on pitch tracker? Pretty much every time someone says “down the pipe” its a borderline strike or out of the zone that’s called a strike.

  • dave27a

Never mind that Dice-K is lost for 2-3 days as well.

  • Hudge has been with the org for a while and he goes way back with SA

  • Taskmaster4450

    So is Montero.

  • Dio

valverde was a good guy. bad pitcher recently but good guy. i like how he at least came to the mets and said put me in any role ill do it. this had to happen eventually. i hope the mets and jose remain very nice friends lol

  • dave27a

Duda has the longest streak in baseball without a HR that matters.

  • jimmy705

Yes, I know…I got what you were saying. It does still seem like the kind of fig-leaf move that desperate, directionless teams make.

  • Destry

The players played good enough to at least win 3 of the last 4 games. Collins takes wins from his team

  • Dio

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cursing!!!! tc is fired up by that question.

  • TheMetsMachine

Terry just said “shit happens” on tv

  • Metropolitan

Terry said sh*t on the air

  • firing a hitting coach is exactly what every team struggling to score does

  • Destry

The Mets players are 3-1 in their last 4 games. Terry Collins is 1-3

  • MetsLGM

Lol, some guy just asked terry if he takes this as a warning shot that he may be next. He says in the most as a matter of fact way, welll anyone can be next.. shit happens XDD. Cripes !

  • Chris H

Lol they just asked TC if he sees this as a warning sign that he might be next and he flew off the handle and cursed

  • dave27a

You can forgive people for not noticing, since they never come when they are needed.

  • TheMets philosophy

Why does Terry always sound like hes drunk? The guy slures like hes hi!…

  • Dio

yeah he was fired up by that question. it was a pretty harsh question though so at least he was aggressive replying.

  • MetsLGM

Lol, some guy just asked terry if he takes this as a warning shot that he may be next. He says in the most as a matter of fact way, welll anyone can be next.. s*** happens XDD. Cripes !

  • Metropolitan

He knows this does put him on notice without a doubt

  • Destry

Curse all you want Terry. You are terrible. You need to learn management instead curse words.

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    Love it.

I haven’t been over there in weeks, but it’s always fun to read his patented “undermine your own argument” articles.

“Hudgens shouldn’t be fired….the approach is awesome….we’re constantly behind in every count and getting boofed repeatedly.”

  • Anthony

They are there in times like these as scapegoats when you dont have the guts to fire the manager

  • Dio

this really feels like a goodbye speech lol.

  • of course Terry’s next.He cant admit that

  • I blocked more balls in the dirt today than David Wright has xbh all year

    #Facts

  • jimmy705

I agree! I don’t blame either of them. They should sign with whoever wants them. And it must be terrible to be Valverde, to have been so good so recently and to have lost it so completely.

It’s more the expectations that were put on them by this terrible organization.

  • Novito

Sure. Complain about us hitting hr’s. Which team are you rooting for again? Troll much?

  • Destry

A team doesn’t go 15-11 and then 7-17 because of the players they put on the field unless there is a major injury. This is Terry Collins at his finest.

  • billpulsipher

fire them all. owners included. last place organization. last place owners. last place GM. last place manager and last place players

  • Waz0787

He shut u up. Keep quiet

  • Chris H

Collins is gone soon this was a warning. We are getting a new hitting coach you have a few weeks to see progress or your out. Life is good today lol

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Hopefully, this season provides the necessary accelerant for the Terry Collins combustion.

  • how do you say tu quoque in Spanish and is it recognized as a logical fallacy in the Latin world?

  • dave27a

It’s May 26 and Rice, Familia, and Torres are the only guys in the bullpen who broke camp there.

The two guys who came into camp battling for the 5th spot in the rotation are there, however.

    Brilliant roster construction.

  • Destry

How do you explain a 15-11 start followed by a 7-17 stretch without a major injury to the team? The players are good enough to be a .500 team or slightly better. The coach is not.

  • TheMets philosophy

So now Valverde is looking for a team that will face the New York Mets lol

  • you’re impressed by transparent deflection? What am I saying, of course you are

  • billpulsipher

15-11 means nothing….the worst team in the sport can have a good few weeks…..they are a 90 loss team

  • HawkZon

I wonder if Sandy is feeling the heat.

  • jimmy705

Yes, and then what usually happens….?

  • Destry

Its not the roster construction dude. Terry does this to every bullpen. Scott Atchison has a 1.65 ERA and picked up another save two nights ago.

  • Guest

when does the news come down that Syndergaard is going to dr andrews?….wait for it

  • Kian Momeni

so Vic Black is coming back

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    Brilliant, my friend!

  • continued struggles, manager gets fired. It’s not directionless. It’s a well-worn path

  • Guest

Sandy is jeffey and freddy’s golfing partners. he isnt going anywhere

  • dave27a

It’s both. No depth and a manager who will ruin whatever productivity there is.

  • billpulsipher

john lannan, kyle farnsworth and Valverde all turned out to be a horrible disaster? shocking..like who coulda saw that coming? um only 29 other GMS in baseball

  • Destry

No. Has Arizona had a 15-11 stretch? The CUbs? Phillies? Astros?

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Let me guess–he’s being used in situations tailored to his strengths?

  • dave27a

The Wilpons aren’t allowed to fire Sandy. Bud said so.

  • Dio

he wasnt a jerk like farnsworth. he wont have anything bad to say. he was a good guy. just a mediocre pitcher thats blows a lot of big game situations.

  • billpulsipher

no GM is stupid enough to sign that scrub useless pitcher…well one GM. His name is Sandy

  • mr1313

What’s he saying? I pay for this crap on MLBtv. Wish they showed the post game.

  • Dio

    id assume so.

  • Destry

He had a 1.40 ERA in 2012 4+ in 2013 and 1.65 in 2014. He faced more LH batters in 2013 than he has in his entire career, and was used 21 times in our first 27 games last year, and guess what……he hit the DL

  • dave27a

Don’t worry, he’s due for his “I’m going on vacation for two weeks and don’t plan to watch any games” announcement soon.

  • Jimmy Broadway

Cripes ! Lol what a clown

  • jimmy705

A well-worn path for teams without a strong direction from the top. Discard the ballast one at a time, until finally the GM is replaced. Then, if we have hands-off owners with enough money to compete (a la, the Mets in 1981 onward), maybe the team can start building towards real success. Until then, not so much.

  • jimmy705

    WOW

  • Destry

How do we have the3rd most quality starts in baseball, a bullpen that is exhausted?

  • dave27a

    Good point, Mrs. Duda.

  • Destry

    Scott Atchison
    2012 – Boston 1.40 ERA
    2013- Terry Collins 4+ ERA
    2014- Cleveland 1.65 ERA

  • dave27a

You forgot Bobby Parnell, who any other GM would have hedged against. And Germen, who I’m still 100% sure Alderson couldn’t pick from a crowd of two.

  • yes because blocking dozens of balls in the dirt, inducing strikeouts because the strike zone now includes an extra 3 feet because of my range is a bad thing.

  • mynewdisqusname

They really do need to add that and the cut ins to the SNY crew during the game.

  • Destry

THe bullpen has the 8th best ERA in the NL.

  • dave27a

So much for the stories about him mentoring Mejia…

  • what about Dice-K?

  • dave27a

Dice K started the year in Las Vegas.

  • Destry

He was asked if he if he though this was a warning he might be next. He said “Anyone could be” SH*t

  • dave27a

I’m expecting an email from the sales department after these cosmetic shakeups.

No really, we’re serious this time!

  • mr1313

Ha. I hope this is his farewell speech. Sh*t and get off the pot Terry.

  • I’m looking for the connection to David Wright’s XBH?
5 starts, 2 errors and 1 PB? Stellar defense.
You’re impressed he blocked some balls in the dirt? We are to be enthused by his ability to catch balls that do not land directly in his glove?

  • dave27a

Yes but in fairness he’s 39 years old. Oh right….

  • so? Our buddy Billy here has called Dice-K garbage on many, many occasions. Wondering if he has an opportunity to reassess that position

  • Jimmy Broadway

I truly believe that this is it for this team. Bud is leaving, Saul wants out, the team is a complete disaster and nobody is gonna show up. Sinking faster than the Titanic and no more life boats to jump on….

  • Destry

Terry Collins management of the pitching staff produced season ending surgeries for the following in 2013

    Johan Santana
    -Scott Rice
    -Josh Edgin
    -Bobby Parnell
    -Juerys Familia
    -Jenry Mejia
    -Matt Harvey
    -Shaun Marcum
    -Jeremy Hefner

  • the ability to block WP and PB opens up the strike zone for our pitchers.

Carlos Torres threw 2 balls in the dirt with a runner on 3rd.

  • Destry

Hes older this year than he was last year.

  • and lets not talk about “connections”

i posted an article on matt cerrone talking about dave hudgins and SANDY’s offensive approach.

you made the leap and talked about defense there.

what was the point of that?

o thats right, u cant admit ur lord and savior Sandy and his approach is a failure.

  • dave27a

Well I was just pointing out that he pitched well all spring and was banished to LV anyway.

  • Destry

Saying. They aren’t “right down the middle” like everyone proclaims. He leads the team in HRs by the way. Ike has two with that cozy little RF porch in Pittsburgh

  • Jimmy Broadway

I hate Francessa, but he might very well be the guy that runs Collins out of town. I hope he unleashes on the radio all week on the this teams management.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Oh, I just ignore the angry ones

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Mejia has graduated

  • donobrien

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  • donobrien

Nothing will really change under the Wilpons and Sandy Alderson. It will really take a completely empty ball park. And maybe even that won’t make them sell the team.

  • donobrien

Empty PR. Try to distract attention, but it’s too late.

  • I enjoyed pointing out how you crowed for weeks about Centeno only to suddenly go silent when he actually got promoted.
Not sure how Sandy is my lord and savior. He’s the one responsible for calling the terrible Centeno up to the majors

  • billpulsipher

1 out of 4…so i was right about 75 percent and sandy was right about 25 percent..i win

  • not sure if serious

  • Fast Eddie

If Jose Valverde is still on the team tomorrow, we’ll all know that he has photos of Terry fellating Sandy. Or vice-versa.

And I want to know if anyone out there seriously believes that Duda would have hit that ninth-inning homer if the game had been on the line at that point. Need I say more? Duda is a Dudda.

    Veloz

  • rclthomp

Terry Collins everybody!!!! He’ll be here all summer. Remember tip your waiters (Fred, Jeff, Saul, Sandy) Try the veal….. or the Steak Shack

  • amarksupreme

ive been following the mets since ’68 actually, dude. and Ive been sticking up for Duda overall. but come on, as pointless hr is a pointless hr. do you even know what a troll is?

  • goorru

He never said MAJOR league players, he’s talking young/little league and high school pitchers. Velocity at young ages is a major contributing factor.

  • CJM

    Nope.

  • Out of place Mets fan

I said the same thing yesterday and yet was told TC did a good job. I thought he screwed up lacking “vision”

  • TruthOverLies

He had to call up Centeno because d’Arnaud can’t stay on the field………….

  • TruthOverLies

Soooooooooo it’s been 20 years since #TeamLoserGM drafted a starting big league player. When is that streak going to end?

  • TruthOverLies

Here’s a novel idea. Met hitters need to STOP taking so many pitches. Time for them to SWING the bat. Worry about the WORTHLESS pitch counts later.

  • jason bay

Yes we would be so much better with Thole and whoever we can get off the scrap heap behind the plate and McHugh and Schwinden in AAA.

    Good thinking.

  • I wonder how many pitching injuries occurred when TC was at the helm with the Angels? Is there a way to find out?

  • Arjun Vidudala

forget that, the moron brings in valverde when torres was available, if torres is in there he easily pitches 1 2/3 innings at most giving up a run if any, and we still win on dudas solo shot, and that ball towards right that young wouldve prolly caught if he had left him in as a defensive sub
