Game Preview

The Mets look to stay strong from the homestand with their first trip to the sandbox that is Citizen’s Bank Park this year (hey! Maybe Curtis will have better luck!). Anyway, the Mets responded to Saturday’s disappointing game by a strong game on Sunday featuring some awesome pitching by Dillon Gee. Tonight Jon Niese looks to continue the trend as he faces off with Cole Hamels.

Jon Niese is 1-2 over 4 starts with a 2.45 ERA over 25.2 innings this year with 7 walks and 19 strikeouts. In his last two starts he has pitched 12.2 innings allowing 2 ER with 5 walks and 10 strikeouts. IN two games against the Phillies last year he allowed only one earned run, three total over 15.2 innings of work. The Phillies have the following numbers against Jon:

  • Rollins 9-40, 2 2B
  • Mayberry 9-34, 2 2B, 3 HR
  • Utley 2-22
  • Ruiz 7-21, 2B, HR
  • Howard 1-15, 7 K
  • Galvis 2-10

The Mets bats will get their first 2014 look at Hamels who is 0-1 after his first start of the season where he allowed 6 hits and 2 earned over 6 innings of work. In 2013 he was 8-14 over 33 starts and 220.0 innings with 202 strikeouts and a 3.60 ERA. Five of those starts were against the Mets wher he posted a 4.94 ERA over 31.0 innings and 34 strikeouts. The Mets have the following numbers against Hamels:

  • Wright 22-63 (.349 BA), 3 2B, 3B, 5 HR
  • Murphy 12-34, 2 2B, HR
  • Tejada 6-24, 2B
  • E Young 9-21, 2 2B
  • Duda 1-13, 7 K
  • Chris Young 4-14, HR
  • Satin 1-10

I hate CBP…the dimensions are a joke and the people are filthy. Filthadelphia. I hope the Mets/Rangers dominate that city tonight!

  • Taskmaster4450

And the grand slam would be a F9 in Citi.

  • Taskmaster4450

The weather report is the Mets might have the night off.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

That “Ike Davis is going to have a huge year” chatter died pretty quick.

  • Schnitzer’s Marble Rye

In the wake of the news of the Donald Sterling punishment by NBA commish Silver of being banned for life from the NBA, fined $2.5 million, and being forced to sell the team with the needed and expected 3/4 vote from the other owners……might there be any audio recordings available of the Wilpons saying racist remarks? Sure that’d be a huge embarrassment to our beloved franchise, but we’re used to that kinda thing…so I say whatever we can do to force the Wilpons to sell, amirite?

  • So is the offensive scouting report.

  • Here’s something I was surprised to see.

Ruben Tejada vs Left handed pitching thus far this season is hitting .357/BA, 5/H, 14/AB.

  • RyanF55

Yeah it supposed to pour. Not looking good.

  • BigAl831

Would be such a nice platoon with Stephen Drew.

  • RyanF55

Ike is truly an all or nothing (more nothing than all) hitter. He’s developed an overly long swing with a hitch. Everything about his offensive approach is honestly terrible right now.

  • I actually just posted a similar comment on another sports blog and wanted to come here to say something similar. Damn you for beating me.

  • Alex68

I had the over on this game and had to change it… it might get rain out…

  • Agee’s Catch

If the fans truly want the Wilpon’s to sell, then the solution is to boycott the team. No tickets, no listening on radio, watching on TV or buying SWAG. It is entirely in the fans hands. But not enough people care to go to this extreme.

  • TheMets philosophy

Im not a big fan of EY but ESPN noted he has the highest WAR on the teem at 1.1!!!

  • Alex68

yeah, those guys we got for him are being a HUGE part of the team’s improvement…. ohhh wait…

  • TheMets philosophy

The wilpons are jewish so cant see them calling out minorities.

  • Alex68

OT, Sterling BANNED for life for his racist remarks…. Joe D should be like Adam Sliver with certain bloggers (including some Immortals) who share the same views of Sterling…

  • BronxMets

Not for nothing Ike Davis is hitting a buck 85 with Pitt.

  • billpulsipher

anyone have fred wilpon making racist remarks on tape? anyone? anyone at all…

  • BronxMets

    that was dumb……..

  • MetsfanInParadise

Should be, “the first trip this year to the ( )andbox that is Citizens Bank Park.” You make it sound like it had a diffrerent name last year. Also, I’m sure you meant “bandbox,” not “sandbox.” Long tradition of bandboxes in Philadelphia. Look up the Baker Bowl

  • BronxMets

not that I agree with what the guy said but this action is pretty ridiculous….

  • shouldaswung

    Or Flores?

  • MetsLove

Um . . . so is Sterling. This comment is almost as stupid as Donald Sterling’s.

  • BronxMets

    why ?

  • nacho6

Pretty sure Donald Sterling is jewish

  • Like people, prejudice and racism come in all religions and colors.

  • shouldaswung

Jewish people can be racist too. 🙂

We gotta get an operation going to someone stage this. Screw those Wilpon Douchebags

  • JerseyCityMetsFan

Will they even play tonight? Weather guys ??

  • BronxMets

so if you made what you thought was a private comment and Joe D didn’t like he should be able to ban you?

  • BigAl831

Well you’d want Flores playing against lefties too I imagine. I had the crazy idea of starting Flores at short against righties and putting him or Murph at first against lefties and sending Satin down.

I don’t think Flores can handle shortstop on an everyday basis but it’d be nice to try?

  • Manager of The Year

    Operation Screw those Wilpon Bastards

  • Clippers website looks like this right now…

  • BronxMets

I think there is a window of about 2 hours

  • shouldaswung

I agree. I’d personally like to see him play everyday, but if he needed to transition slowly a semi-platoon with Tejada is ONE option.

We have some parts to move around for matchup purposes, that’s for sure. Duda, Satin, Murphy, Flores, Young Jr, and Young, to name most of them. Probably better off having established positions though, for the most part.

  • Charley’s Twin

how nice would it be to see D’Arnaud torch the phucking phillies, since he started up in their system?

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    Good to see you, sir!

I figured he’d have to take a vacation for a while, but I didn’t realize that the league had the power to accomplish this.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Yeah, I’m kinda uncomfortable with this from a free speech standpoint, as heinous as it might have been. Ban the guy from league premises and operations, like MLB did with Marge Schott or George Steinbrenner, once upon a time. Make it clear that his beliefs are his alone and don’t represent the league, etc. But he has just as much right to spout his crap as the Nazis had to march in Skokie. If the fans want to stop attending and drive him to sell for financial reasons, that;s another matter. But this is a little heavy-handed for me.

  • Wolfmicky21

But he hit 30 homeruns a few years ago! (Sarcasm)

  • Charley’s Twin

Pretty ridiculous to take the actions they did, since Sterling’s views were known for decades and anyone who was remotely curious would know that.

He’s a slumlord, and said hateful things in public court documents. I bet you Doc Rivers knew and took that job anyway….

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

No wonder all the whining & crying about trading Ike have quickly died down.

  • Pedro’s Rooster

It’s holding steady right now, 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia. I think we can get it in. 🙂

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

One problem with that: Bud Selig is still the commissioner and Bud is no Adam Silver. You’d actually need a competent commissioner who’s not in Wilpon’s back pocket to make that happen.

  • BigAl831

I actually like the idea of platoons. More than most people.

Hopefully Flores can get really hot with the bat. Also very intrigued with Allen Dykstra. Satin needs to have some good AB’s soon with Lutz and Campbell easy replacements.

  • BCleveland3381

Can someone just follow Fred Wilpon around all day, every day and record everything he says…..

  • CJM

That should not surprise you. Tejada has been great against lefties his entire career.

  • BronxMets

Hey whats going on. Its this kind of action by the NBA which SHUTS DOWN and stops progress to end racism.

  • jaygreen55

Sterling is Jewish too. Original name tokowitz. There are plenty of Jewish racists. I used to come down hard on my fahter for some of his utterances

  • shouldaswung

I like the idea of a platoon when the players involved have established themselves as platoon only type players.

Be nice to have another productive Dykstra on the Mets, for sure

  • BronxMets

ya know im sure that’s whats going on. Hes been a bad owner and someone they have wanted to get out for a while. But if everyone in the NBA has to adhere to these standards I would assume there would be a lot of people gone.

  • Taskmaster4450

Give it a rest….a couple 2 for 3 days and he is hitting .285 for them.

  • BCleveland3381

It’s not really a free speech issue considering nobody is trying to put him in jail. His views are hurting the image and the monetary value of the Clippers, and in turn, the NBA. Free speech doesn’t mean the things you say don’t have consequences. He is free to say whatever he wants without fear of prosecution.

  • Charley’s Twin

Sterling is a POS and I have no sympathy for him. But I object to anyone saying Silver is “heroic” or anything of the sort. He’s not. It simply became convenient to get rid of him at this time.

  • RyanF55

My issue is its all about money. The players won’t not play because they want to get paid. The NBA is forcing Sterling to sell because its bad for business above having issue with his actual viewpoints. They knew of his racist ways but had no issue with him as long as it was quiet. Once it became public, and bad for business, it’s now an issue. Money drives all else. The Clippers will show up tonight, because they don’t want to be fined. If they took a stand and said “F-this, we’re not playing” then I’d appreciate their moral stance against this nonsense. Wearing a t-shirt inside out was a nice gesture, but I don’t think it’s enough. Sterling is a real dirtbag though, regardless.

  • Tomthetinker

agreed. He made private comments..to be honest I say some pretty messed up things at messed up moments and I am sure I am not the only one. L. Johnson said something about creating an all black league(which i happen to believe he would have the right to) but isn’t that racist from a certain perspective? people are aloud to have their believes even if they derive from insecurity and other negative emotions no matter how idiotic.

  • RyanF55

Can we just make a recording and say it’s him? Fred obviously has hate in his heart….for fielding a successful team.

  • RyanF55

I hope so…I’d love to watch the Mets beat up on them tonight!

  • Xavier 22

Mets also tend to own Cole Hamels.

  • BronxMets

    very well said……..

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Really don’t want a rain out. Can’t handle that after an off day.

  • Sorry dude, when your comment 1st loaded it didn’t display the screenshot for me. I wouldn’t of posted it had I seen you already did.

  • Tomthetinker

The comments were made in a private setting. I would like to have a mic on all the people criticizing him with out their knowledge. The things he said were dumb and insensitive but they were in his own home towards his own wife. This is a witch hunt to give all the race a baiters some thing to sing about

  • Xavier 22

If he can’t turn it around in Pittsburgh, I’m guessing his days in MLB are numbered.

  • Taskmaster4450

Doc had $25M reasons to take the job with the Clippers…and a much better team than he had with the Celtics.

I laugh at Woodson saying he wouldnt work for Sterling a couple days after the knicks fired him. What a crock….once a contract is offered…these guys jump.

It is always about color…the color green.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments
  • Des

What would you expect from Alex?

  • Taskmaster4450

Why? All you would hear is how great the Dodgers are, how he wishes they stayed in Brooklyn, and how upset he is at having to put up Met memorabilia in Citi instead of all Dodger stuff.

  • Tomthetinker

serious. Two days with out Mets baseball will be very difficult to deal with.

  • Charley’s Twin

    absolutely…

  • BCleveland3381

You really think this is “race baiting”? Wow man. Bottom line is what he said is hurting the NBA right now. There are consequences for that. Doesn’t matter how it got out. He said it, and advertisers are pulling all of their money out of the NBA and the Clippers organization. Should the NBA just do nothing?

  • BCleveland3381

Hope so. My slow pitch game just got cancelled with all the rain, so I have nothing better to do after my kids go to bed.

  • Jack

I had a feeling that a comment like this will come up sooner than later lol. Great comment though. I don’t like the Wilpons but the reason they weren’t forced to sell was because there was no knowledge that they knew Madoff was a massive crook. Not to mention Selig was their buddy. Hopefully it wasn’t entirely Selig’s decision and that other members that worked for baseball had say and knowledge of their close friendship. I wish the Wilpons would do the noble thing and sell but I understand that it’s their team unfortunately. Well, the bright side is that our farm system is among MLBs best so their is talent there. Hopefully the payroll will increase but I don’t expect it to in the short term. Maybe when the Mets become a consistent winning team. We have the pitching to do so. We just need the hitting.

  • Tomthetinker

Doesn’t matter what I think..It only matters what the political correct police think. Yes I do think that his private statements are being used unfairly in order to have an affect on a certain group of people to reach a certain end. Its obvious to me that he is an older guy(not defending his statements) who is insecure about his wifes relationship with other men. Maybe she had an affair with a black man what do we know?? All I know is the statements were made in a private setting. The NBA can do what it wishes I don’t plan on spending money on their failed product for my own reasons but I am sick and tired of every body being so sensitive about racial statements like white people are the only people who make them. When is the last time you saw a non-white get their reputation destroyed for statements they made?

  • Jack

Maybe the new commissioner will help us out. Like I commented a minute ago the silver lining is that we are successfully building the rotation from bottom to the top. We have a great farm system but it would be nice to see some spending.

  • BCleveland3381

Hope the Mets get this in. Just realized Hamels is about due for his beating by the Mets. Im sure he’d rather just get it over with, too.

  • mad met

My god that’s a sad lineup

  • metsman

What bothers me is that few paid attention when he was actually commiting REAL discrimination through real estate, but somebody deceitfully records him saying something many insecure men of all religions/races/creeds think, puts it on TMZ of all places, and he’s a complete monster who should be shaken down for millions. I understand the ban, the cats out of the bag..even if it really was before. The fine is complete extortion. Anyone thinks this is a triumph for race relations they are mistaken; it just shows how low we can go with superficiality.

  • Sach

Please no rain- I actually look forward to watching the Mets now especially on my night off from work. I’m expecting all 3 of David, Chris and Grandy to go yard these next 2G. In just looking at a YouTube hitting mechanics video of Grandy as a Tiger compared to now as a Met, Grandy now seems more open in his stance and as a Tiger better hip rotation and explosion at the point of contact.

  • Charley’s Twin

he clearly hates the fans…many of whom are minorities!

  • Charley’s Twin

You are 100% correct. He’s a slumlord. He’s been sued for racial discrimination in housing, and by Elgin Baylor when was their GM. He said disgusting things in public court documents. This has been known for decades.

He worked to deny minorities housing and employment opportunities, and often was successful. Now he’s bickering about an Instagram post and finally everyone cares? I don’t like it either.

  • mets2014

    attention ey haters:

    Adam Rubin
Terry Collins foresees a four-man outfield rotation when Juan Lagares returns — not one of the players to reserve role. #mets

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

A week ago we were all burying this kid. One good week and he’s our two hitter?

  • metsman

We just needed a reputable news outlet with real integrity that reaches the majority of Americans to break the story…TMZ of course.

  • skiplockweird

I realize the problem with Citi field. We need orange field level seats.

The ball carried well at the vet too.

  • Djmurphy

What TC says TC does not mean.

  • metsman

Yeah with a four man outfield, other teams don’t stand a chance. Can we add another short stop too? Maybe we can have two batters at once, we can get our team BA above the mendoza line!!!

  • Pablo Purchese

    Im actually fine with that

  • mets2014

    lololol…that’s why I posted it

  • skiplockweird

    I like platoons.

  • HarveyKsYou

Whatever helps us win games, though the playing time for the three has to be earned.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

The guy has four outfielders. What do people expect him to do?

  • Out of place Mets fan

Still think he will be average 1B in majors, have a few decent seasons maybe an all-star game or 2.

  • mets2014

most want ey benched…just very hard to do when he leads the team in runs saved, war, runs scored, sb…at least this season there are decisions to make

  • metsman

Play the best three and use the fast guy who hits his weight as a pinch runner.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

The guy has arguably been the team MVP. Leads in runs saved, WAR, runs scored and stolen bases. Sorry, but he’s earned his playing time.

  • Taskmaster4450

I wasnt…..I said the same thing I say with Grandy….give him time.

And Satin’s run seemed to expire last season.

Not too impressed with him this year.

  • Taskmaster4450

See how well that is working in Los Angeles with the Dodgers and get back to me.

  • Metsaholic

Of course he has a right against government sanction, but he does not have a right to escape the consequences from private sanction. Constitutional protection under the 1st Amendment are protections of the individual from “Government” censorship or sanction. It does not give the individual the right and protection from private sanction. My employer can say to me, no talking in the office. If I talk, the employer has the right to fire me. If the employer says, if anything comes out that bring embarrassment to my company, that is grounds for dismissal (or what ever such punishment stipulated in employment) Given his status and position, the punishment of shunning, banning and fining are most appropriate.

  • Charley’s Twin

    ha!

  • mets2014

I’d wager that c young is dealt in july ala marlon byrd…that would settle the debate

  • metsman

…and Ike Davis lead the team in home runs with 32 in 2012….you have a guy that can only do one thing really well in for a while, suprise, he’s going to do that one thing really well. Everyone else in the line up has been shuffled around, in and out, he has been at the top of the order almost all year, should anyone be surprised he has scored the most runs in front of our best hitters? MVP? You’re kidding right? Pitching has been our MVP no position player on this team deserves much praise at all offensively.

  • Guest

TC reinventing the game again….cuz they “promised’ chris young playing time to sign him…to avoid that bidding war with all 0 teams that were lining up to sign him

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

But you want him batting second after a good week.

  • Taskmaster4450

We are a long way from July.

And for CY to get any type of return, he needs to put up some numbers.

The Dodgers 4 man OF rotation are all hitting way below their career numbers.

The A’s OFs, including CY, struggled with it last season.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

So…..you’re mad he’s doing his job as our leadoff hitter? I don’t get it.

And at this point, which pitcher would be MVP? Each starter has been bombed at least once so who is it? The Mets aren’t undefeated in any one starter’s games, so who?

Through the first 30 days, I’ll give it to the guy who has saved and scored the most runs. That’s EY.

  • mets2014

it is pretty impressive that he has more runs than hits…that means when he gets on he gets into scoring position and scores at an extraordinary rate

  • Metsaholic

For a person not defending his statements, you seem to be trying real hard to find excuses for the guy. Sick and tired or not, the larger society is making itself clear that a person may express his feeling on these matters, but it will not be viewed favorably. This guy should be given no quarter. This is especially true given his wealth, power and position.

  • mets2014

you make a good point as far as platoons go, but if he were to choose 3 you know lagares would be the odd man out…no doubt

  • Taskmaster4450

I didnt say platoons didnt work, I was pointing to 4 man rotations. If Collins platooned say EY and CY and let Grandy and Lagares play everyday, then fine. Platoons can be very effective especially with a couple of guys with bad splits.

But Collins is going to use a 4 man revolving rotations similar to the Dodgers which I think will hurt the numbers of all involved.

  • oleosmirf

Irrelevant though. Just because one team’s 4 man rotation is not working out, doesn’t mean that applies to everyone.

Granted, I’m not advocating a 4 man rotation, but one thing has nothing to do with the other.

  • Rocky Thompson

Compared to a three-man rotation at 1B, a four-man rotation in the outfield is a piece of cake for Terry Collins. I expect all four players to get into most games (double switches, pinch hitting, defensive replacement, pinch running, etc.).

  • Taskmaster4450

No actually I like Grandy second. I didnt write the article.

And the week is also bogus. TdA has been hitting the ball hard for a couple weeks…the first week he just hit it at people.

  • mets2014

that’s what I meant rotation not platoon…my mistake…if they platooned though it would be ey and lagares since c young was “promised” 600 abs

  • oleosmirf

I can literally see CBP from my apt. window. It’s raining right now, but it is certainly playable. Just a light drizzle atm.

  • Taskmaster4450

CY was promised playing time…I never saw where he was promised a certain amount of ABs.

CY actually is a better platoon candidate since his splits arent that great. But money is going to dictate that Grandy and CY play.

  • BarnRat

Whoever has the day off can close

  • Taskmaster4450

How about Oakland last season…..didnt work out too well for CY and Cespedos.

Maybe you show me some where the 4 man rotation did work.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Was promised no such thing.

  • SCarton12

Yeah it would, if only Drew didn’t want 15 mil/yr to play.

  • billpulsipher

TC is reinventing the game tho..the 3 man rotation at 1B, the 6 man rotation last summer. those worked so great. the man is a visionary….um no

  • Adam

Terry needs to make a Sterling like statement so he can be fired.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Is that not Sandy handing him the pieces and making Collins play the game?

  • billpulsipher

EY has been the teams MVP? lol are you trolling?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Who is?

  • billpulsipher

there is no MVP, we are 3 weeks in….but the best player so far has been Mejia

  • TPT

ummmm isnt that the same guy who said Dudas the everyday first baseman and will bat fourth and then proceeded to play only twice that week ?and of today still isnt batting 4th? hmmm ill believe it when i see it ,it may start out that way but with TC who really knows?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

We can say there’s an MVP to the first three weeks. You pick Mejia. That’s fine. They won his first four starts, even though the offense bailed him out of one. He’s not my pick, but that’s just me.

  • billpulsipher

EY doesnt have haters. Its just people are confused as to how a 5th
outfielder on any other team is forcefed into the lineup every single
day by a clueless manager. EY is a 5th OF/pinch runner….he’s a poor mans billy hamilton….this idea he’s a great leadoff hitter? the team is last in MLB in runs scored lol

  • oleosmirf

Tampa Bay –> Jennings, Myers, Zobrist, Joyce, Johnson
Yankees –> Ellsbury, Gardner, Beltran, Soriano, Ichiro
Red Sox –> Ellsbury, Gomes, Nava, Victorino
Cardinals –> Jay, Beltran, Holliday, Craig
Rangers –> Murphy, Hamilton, Cruz, Gentry

  • Adam

Terry had a DWI. Why should be take anything he says seriously?

  • Taskmaster4450

So did LaRussa….does that mean people shouldnt take him seriously either?

  • Adam

Well Terry is clearly under the influence while assigning a lineup. During game time he is clearly impared and should not be making decisions for a major league baseball team.

  • $14435385

    Clearly that’s Rice (lefty)…

  • piazza4aday

    no.

the one thing TC does is send out the line up…then he falls asleep… 🙂

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Uh, Terry didn’t make the roster. I doubt he enjoyed juggling Duda and Ike for two years, or four outfielders now.

  • piazza4aday

Terry absolutely makes the line up. He juggles it like its a part of his anatomy that makes him smile.

  • Andrew Herbst

I’m glad that Murph is finally moved out of the cleanup spot.

  • BCleveland3381

There is a very simple answer why white people don’t get offended with racial comments. We are the only people that don’t get discriminated against. We’ve always had all the money and all the power. Stop acting like white people get a raw deal because they don’t get to be open racists. That’s a weak stance.

  • jason bay

    LOL

  • oleosmirf

Before everyone goes nuts about a 4 man rotation in the OF. Can we at least think about it logically before everyone cries foul.

Monday: EY, CY, CG – JL
Tuesday: CG, JL, CY – EY
Wednesday: EY, JL, CG – CY
Thursday: EY, JL, CY – CG
Friday: EY, CY, CG – JL
Saturday: CG, JL, CY – EY
Sunday: EY, JL, CG – CY

That means (if CY, EY and JL rotate equally) the breakdown would be like this:

    CG: 5-6 starts, 1 sit
    JL: 4-5 starts, 2-3 sits
    CY: 4-5 starts, 2-3 sits
    EY: 4-5 starts, 2-3 sits

You’re looking at a total of 4-5 starts each taken away from JL, CY and EY per month which works out to around 21-22 sits over the rest of the season. Plus the player sitting will almost always be subbed into the game in a double switch, PH, PR or defense later on, so the actual number of AB lost will be low.

Not to mention someone will get hold/cold/injured and everything will change in 2 weeks anyway…

  • TPT

    me too

  • BigAl831

    Never buried him once.

You want him to become a run producer and be a solid hitter like he’s shown he’s capable of, you don’t bat him in front of Tejada day in and day out. Especially not in a lineup where basically nobody is hitting.

  • George_Theodore

she’s not his wife, she’s his mistress.. and he knew he was being recorded..

  • KennyandtheMets

I was one in favor of EY being the 4th OFer before the season. However, he IS doing a good job. He is getting on base and scoring runs. His defense gas been good too. Therefore, I am ok with a rotation. Lagares should get periodic rest upon his return, to make sure his hammy stays strong. At some point, maybe the 3 every day starters will emerge. Until then, I have no problem with a rotation of 4 guys. Even Granderson can sit against certain LHPers.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

Pretty much in agreement oleo, and if one of them.is absolutely raking, they will play more. I believe juan will end up starting 5-6 games a week with ey getting an extra game here and there giving murph a rest

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

How s this for out of the box thinking…Didnt juan come up as a shortstop?

  • BigAl831

EY will end up sitting more than that. Especially if JL keeps hitting.

Either way I am not worried about this. A good problem to have. Also can start EY at second every now and then.

  • Fast Eddie

It would seem that the obvious platoon would be CY and Grandy in RF. Lagares has to be in CF.

    Veloz

  • KennyandtheMets

EY is not a great player. However, he HAS been getting on base and scoring runs this season thus far. If you take him out of our line up, our offense would be even worse than it has been.

  • TPT

hate to say this but that looks like a outfield in turmoil i thought the idea was you have to play everyday to keep sharp ..and if Lagares plays like he did before he went down your really gonna sit him??? 2 or 3 games before he starts again again? for what reason so he can lose his edge? i dont agree with this at all you go with your 3 best players period

  • jason bay

Ethier’s been in decline for a couple years, Crawford has been an enigma since signing that deal, Kemp’s coming off a tough injury and Puig showed up overweight.

On an annual basis, excluding injuries a 4 man rotation would average 120 starts and more likely than not wind up being double switched, pin hit, come in for defense or even pinch run 20 of the 40 times they didn’t start so they would all get adequate playing time barring bad performance or injuries.

  • KennyandtheMets

Yes. But he obviously wasn’t good there. That’s why they moved him to the OF.

  • NewYorkMammoths

“It is high . . . it is far . . . it is . . . GONE! Mark Teixeira sends a Tex message into the right field seats!”

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

Agreed. Lets approach this with some sanity and see how it goes over the course of the roas trip

  • KennyandtheMets

Murph is not a clean up hitter, but I do like him lower than #2. He is our best hitter with RISP. Hitting him 2nd limits his RBI chances. He also doesn’t have the OBP you want at the top of the order.

  • KennyandtheMets

    Sanity? What a concept!!

  • metsman

It’s rare because it’s an aberration…a guy who hits as little as he does either needs to play up the middle with impeccable defense or have extra base power.

  • oleosmirf

I think that’s the situation we’ll see early on especially since Juan is coming back from a leg injury.

Me personally, I’d take one of the starts from CY and give it to Lagares with Abreu getting a rare start as well.

  • T Boogy

I’m surprised that Satin is 1/10 against Hamels. I know it’s still early in the season but if he doesn’t start to hit soon we really need to get Soup to take his spot.

  • $14435385

I’m sure the OF situation will resolve itself over time…guys will get hot and cold, pitching match-ups will determine a lot of who plays and who sits, and injuries will also play a role. The offense doesn’t concern me at all – all three have strengths and weaknesses at the plate. My concern is that by not playing Lagares every day, the overall OF defense suffers. Neither Young is in Lagares’ league defensively…nor is Granderson. We saw in a very brief sample how much Lagares’ glove was missed over the last week and a half…his day-to-day absence would take a toll over time.

  • metsman

Would you stop trying to deligitimize the arguments of anyone who disagrees with you by characterizing them as “raging” or “mad”? It’s completely immature; learn to disagree respectfully.

  • T Boogy

He’s force fed because SA left TC no other option with CY out and now JL out. And to be fair, EY is the last person who can be blamed for our lack of offense so fast this year.

  • oleosmirf

What concerns me most about this lineup is that Murphy (who has a career OBP of under .300 against LHP) is batting in front of David Wright while Tejada and his career .369 OBP against LHP (.400 in 2014) is batting 8th.

I hope it’s just b/c of Murphy’s numbers against Hamels and not something Terry plans to do against all LHP.

  • TPT

EY has a lower on base pct than Duda and as much as Grandy has struck out EY has only 2 less strikeouts 28 -26 and your lead off hitter cannot strikeout..not to mention hes batting .216 so i dont get how EYs such a great lead off guy ..hes not sorry… he kills us with his strikeouts so to me hes the odd man out and if we were in last and say 10-15 we all be screaming for a change at the top of the line up

  • T Boogy

Be fair though. You can make a strong case that every dodger outfielder was due for a down year, whether it’s from injuries, age, or the league adjusting (Puig)

  • TPT

Grandy has 28 Ks EY as a leadoff hitter has 26 hes batting 216 with a lower OBP than Duda i think your first inclination was right hes a 4th outfielder

  • billpulsipher

4 outfielders and 3 of them would probably be 4th outfielders on most other teams (the way Grandy is hitting, in a month, all 4 could be considered 4th OF’ers) the yankees bench Ichiro and he is far better than EY

  • JerseyCityMetsFan

    Ok

  • Manager of The Year

    So do the Wilpons…

  • BigAl831

For some reason people seem to think that Murph hits lefties really well.

  • SchadenfreudianSlip

Well that settles it. Between the historical accuracy of Rubin’s reporting and Terry’s consistently doing exactly what he says, you can pretty much write this in stone.

  • Guest

EY hit .250 in coors field which is almost impossible to do and was DFA’d by a last place rockies team…TC and sandy need to stop falling in love with bench players (turner, satin, baxter, Q, EY)

  • igotyourbackman

    Hi everybody! LGM!

  • TheMets philosophy

Haha i just got an E-Mail from Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez asking all mets fans to put there name on a list that shows who “True New yorkers” are! And the winner gives the list to the players before the subway series So sad what this teem does for PR.

  • oleosmirf

His average isn’t bad, but the problem is his walk rate against LHP is terrible. He doesn’t belong batting in front of Wright.

If not Tejada then it has to be Satin. Let Murphy hack away batting 6th/7th where OBP is not as important.

  • Manager of The Year

Satin hasn’t been great this year but it’s a small sample size. Nonetheless I would like to see TDA hitting 6th and Satin 7th

  • BigAl831

    Just not gonna happen.

TC should shake things up more often. One thing I really dislike about him.

I’d go with EY, d’Arnaud, Wright, Young, Murphy, Satin, Granderson, Tejada.

Murph can still drive in some runs out of the 5 hole. I’d like to see d’Arnaud up higher against the lefty.

  • oleosmirf

An equal rotation means you play 3 games in a row after you sit so your concern about going stale on the bench is without merit.

I’d rather have JL playing everyday too, but the Mets promised CY to play more often than not and Granderson won’t sit more than once a week (if that) so we have no choice.

  • oleosmirf

Personally I would go with this even though we all know Terry would never do it for obvious reasons.

EY, Tejada, Wright, CY, Satin, Murphy, TDA, Granderson

  • Opti-Mets-tic

    -1

  • metsman

But did they pinky swear? Double stamp No quitsies touch blue make it true?

  • KennyandtheMets

Duda has a high OBP. So the fact that EY’s is lower isn’t so bad. I don’t like EY’s strike out rate, but he is among the league leaders in runs scored. Scoring runs is the most important stat for a lead off hitter.

  • oleosmirf

and if Satin goes 3-4, his BA doubles…

  • metsman

You can’t steal first base and you can’t steal home…so the credit goes to the pitchers wild enough to walk a hitter that bad, and the guys knocking him in. All he’s done is steal a lot of bases which we knew he could do anyway. Nothing has changed despite SSS, he is not an everyday player. Just because he dives for balls a 50 year old man could catch on his feet, doesn’t make him a gold glover either.

  • oleosmirf

There is no such thing as private free speech…

  • Andrew Herbst

Yep. Agreed. He is not a # 2 hitter. I’m always thought he would be an ideal # 3 hitter, but has not proved to hit well in that spot.

  • NYM86

He’s probably going to be subbed out for Duda later on in the game if need be, that’s why he’s batting 6th I’m guessing.

  • Manager of The Year

Ya I thought of that but that would be like 1 AB for Duda over TDA compared to 2 or 3 AB for Satin ahead of TDA.

  • metsfan130

Even with the 4 man OF rotation, I can’t see Lagares sitting that often, maybe once a week. Sandy makes all of the calls and I don’t think he will let Terry bench Lagares.

  • Tommy

Dude – why don’t you go root for the Yankees then! Christ O mighty if that wasn’t 1 of the worst comments ever! You would really take Ichiro over Lagares, right now? REALLY? In fact, I would take Chris Young over Ichiro, and I think & hope by the end of May, it wouldn’t even be close as to taking Granderson over Ichiro! WOW what a statement!

  • Tommy

Anyone else think they are going to get this game in? Thoughts? I figure since it hasn’t been postponed yet, it will be delayed (by around 2 hours), but they will try to get it in?

  • Tommy

Yes I just got it too! I am surprised Keith & Ron allowed them to use the both of them in the email, like it really came from them?

  • Tommy

Exactly! I actually like EY! I just can’t, for the life of me understand TC’s love affair with him, especially if Lagares’s playing time suffers! That is just inexcusable!

  • BigAl831

I just don’t see the point in hitting TDA so low day after day especially after he’s been showing signs of hitting like the guy we thought he’d be.

We already know what Tejada is and is not capable of. I wanna see what Travis can do in the 2 or 6 hole.

  • BarnRat

6 games in Philly and Col. Huge upside scenario if the pitching proves itself in these shoe-boxes and the offense uses the opportunity to get healthy. Reverse that and we’re all going to be on meds.

    LGM!!

  • BarnRat

Looks like there’s a window, but score first and don’t pad the lead (lol, like that’s a problem!)

  • Jeff

Hope to see Wright go yard here!

  • Jeff

Colin Cowgill is your starting CF, we know how long that lasted. Chris Young was promised 500 at bats, no one planned on him getting hurt, Lagares stepped up and proved he can hit and was leading the team before he got hurt, things change. Lagares gives the team the best chance to win in CF EVERY NIGHT! There is NO reason to not start him and let the others rotate.

  • MyasDaddy

How is the weather in philly? are we getting this game In?

  • KennyandtheMets

You can’t steal 1B. However, you can’t ignore that EY has a respectable OBP. He has drawn a lot of walks and he deserves credit for that. It doesn’t matter how he has gotten on base. What matters is that he IS getting on base.

  • KennyandtheMets

I think he would make a fine 6th or 7th hitter.

  • MikeBedlam

I think TdA has earned a small lineup promotion on his own merit, but I do agree. Satin has gotten off to a rough start and TdA has more pop anyways.

  • MikeBedlam

I hope it pours. I don’t wanna have to miss the game tonight and I have other plans.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Oh so worst comes to worse we start late..

  • BarnRat

With this weather, if we get a lead and Terry puts in Dice, that will finally prove he’s a double-agent working for the rest of the NL East.

  • oleosmirf

    Where’s Prismo????

  • oleosmirf

I live in Philly. Can literally see the stadiums from my 12th floor window. No way this game is starting on time.

  • TheMets philosophy

The game has been delayed per @AdamrubinEspn

  • Taskmaster4450

Well at least I can watch Cano’s first AB against the Yankees….interested to see the reception he gets.

  • jaygreen55

I hope they don’t start the game go a few innings and have a delay. I’d rather the game be cancelled spring Niese and the bullpen unnecessary wear and tear.

  • MikeBedlam

ESPN feeling it necessary TO YELL AT ME ABOUT THE GAME BEING DELAYED. Must be serious.

  • Andrew Herbst

    I think so also.

  • oleosmirf

He’s got enough on his plate. I would rather leave him be for the time being until he has more prolonged success.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    #FreeLagares
    #FireTerryCollins
    #EricYoungJrSucks

  • billpulsipher

even in a rainout, TC will find a way to pitch Torres

  • BigAl831

    What classy Yankee fans.

  • TheMets philosophy

    Not raining in the bronx?

  • Taskmaster4450

The Yankee announcers do really suck.

  • TheMets philosophy

EYJR leads the tee in war!

  • BigAl831

But he’s been hitting lately. Which is more than you can say for just about everybody else on the team.

  • MyasDaddy

    That explains everything Oleo. Lol

  • George_Theodore

yeah, really.. you cheer the guy the first time up as a thank you, then you boo him..

  • MyasDaddy

    Was it bad?

  • George_Theodore

    bunch of drunks booing..

  • mad met

Does ey owe u money or something

  • mad met

Listening to them on the radio is lol funny. U have know idea what is happing in the game .u have to wait for john s to correct him self after almost every play and then corret him self again and explain why he f up the call

  • BCleveland3381

Anyone watch the MLB strike zone channel? It’s actually pretty cool. Basically the Red Zone channel for baseball.

  • Never even heard of it. usually I just keep MLB Network on in background.

  • BCleveland3381

Today is the first day I’ve watched it. It’s run by the MLB network. I have it on Time Warner here in Syracuse. They do some live look ins, and cut to clips of every out and hit….its pretty cool actually.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

EYJR leads the team in sucking as well

P.S. If he does lead the team in WAR youve just proved how useless a stat WAR is.

    Thanks

  • TheMets philosophy

Well he does have a 320 OBP wich is from the top in the NL so weather ur hitting or not if ur getting on base at a 320 clip with his speed its really usefull

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

No I wouldnt mind him if Collins wasnt attempting to force feed us this bum.

    The Outfield should always be:

    RF Granderson
    CF Lagares
    LF C.Young

Eric Young jr should only play when 1 of them is hurt or needs a rest. And when I say rest I dont mean once a week after 4 or 5 games. I mean they need to be tired.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Hey guys weather is looking good game should start in about a half hour
    http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/USPA1276:1?interactiveMapLayer=radar&baseMap=r&zoom=7

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

So which struggling hitter should we bat second? CY? EY? Granderson? There’s plenty to choose from and SOMEONE has to bat in front of Tejada.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

    Awwww. I’m sorry.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

He sucks and a .320 OBP is BELOW AVERAGE!!!

Thats not tops in the NL, Tops in the NL is Tulo with .476OBP

EYjr’s .320OBP is not even Top 50 in the NL. Its not even tops on the Mets. The guy sucks, no way to sugar coat facts like this.

  • metsman

Plans to wear your sunglasses at night? Most annoying comment ever.

  • It’s part of a pay package for me. Is it worth it?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Mets fans = Pot calling the kettle black

  • Taskmaster4450

Remember when the Marlins got off to a hot start at the plate and was scoring a ton of runs. They have a series against the Braves….we will see how their BAs are affected the next few games.

  • TPT

yes all time time its really cool i agree

  • Taskmaster4450

I write that and Stanton hits one out over the RF fence.

  • TPT

Hes a leadoff man with 26 strikeouts and Grandy the king of Ks has 28 sooo no thanks hes not a good lead off batter

  • Taskmaster4450

Very moving. Best of luck to you over your remaining days. Suck every ounce of your trip out that you can.

    Our thoughts are with you.

  • jaygreen55

SNY put up a stat that EY scores 61% of the time when he gets on base, leading the league by a wide margin. He also has forced the most errors. He may not have the highest OBP but he is incredibly efficient once he gets ther and the bottom line is the number on the scoreboard. He’s hardly the piece of trash you claim him to be

  • TheMets philosophy

Im not even a EY fan just stating facts hehas only hit into one double play so far so he doesnt ethier kill innings (could very well be because he striked out every time lol)

  • George_Theodore

I’m new here, but have enjoyed reading your posts & minor league updates… best to you & enjoy your trips… and i predict a Mets WS in your honor this year 🙂

  • BCleveland3381

Probably not for a pay package unless you like a bunch of other channels. Its only on Tuesday and Friday nights, and I would be watching the Mets game if it was on. But its kind of cool during a rain delay.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

anyone watch mookie on john stewart last night?

  • Just between wishing injury on a Mets player and showing pics from a guys personal life from 12 years ago it seems a little rough.

I actually have the Time Warner sports package and it is part of that. It includes MLB strike zone, Red Zone Channel, Big 10 network, Pac 12 network, ESPN Goal Line(college football’s red zone), NHL Network, CBS Sports network, and a bunch of others

  • RyanF55

    Nice

  • George_Theodore

I have two and could still manage better than TC..

  • Manager of The Year

You will always be missed Chago. I’ll always remember the guy who gave constant updates on the minor league team and your legacy shall live forever.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

still my favorite met of all time. Lagares is moving up the ranks though already.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Keywords there are, “WHEN HE gets on base”

If I get onbase 1% of the time and I score 100% of the time its still horrible. Because I dont get on enough.

This is more SABR gargbage searching for any analytical or statistical edge thats in favor of the player just in order to say he isnt that bad. When in reality he is that bad which is why you have to seek out obscure stats to attempt to prove otherwise.

Im sure someone can find a stat that would favor Ruben Tejada as well.

  • Yeah I am looking at it now while I bored.

  • mr. belvedere

why are you posting stuff like this from 12 years ago? not funny or clever or whatever you’re trying to prove

  • iAmDevlynT

  • Have a great couple of months and best of luck on your journey, wherever it leads you. I’ve really enjoyed your posts and the very short time that our paths have crossed. I’m happy to have known you, though it was briefly and in this fake world.

  • Here’s hoping the doctors are wrong and you have many seasons left in you. Enjoy your trip. If the worst does come to pass, and I’ll be honestly praying it does not, but if it does – see what you, Gary and Ralph can do for those long suffering fans you leave behind. Best of luck here and the hereafter, Chago. You’re a truly passionate fan.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    lol

  • Taskmaster4450

    Close enough.

How do you really feel about him?

  • MetsfanInParadise

Gary and Ron commenting on Wright’s throwing, something that’s previously been noted here,

  • Taskmaster4450

Wright needs a cutoff man throwing from 3B to 1st.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Cant comment on Wright stuff like that here or you get ambushed and called a hater.

  • Kian Momeni

satin is terrible… bring up Campbell

  • Manager of The Year

Good to see the hit off the lefty for Grandy. Also with the weakening of Wright’s arm should he move positions? Probably 1st base. He can play SS he has done it before. Could move Wilmer to 3rd either way

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

My point is you never hear about it but whenever Wally Backman is mentioned for a job all of his drinking arrest is brought up. Thats my point

  • MetsfanInParadise

I am an observer with no agenda, except to see good things happen. These days the main impediment to that, in my opinion, is Collins.

  • Taskmaster4450

I am starting to agree with that idea.

I was a Satin supporter but he isnt showing much this year although he hasnt a ton of ABs.

  • Tommy

Satin is total poop! I just don’t get the point in automatically sitting Duda because a lefty is on the mound? Can’t they see what he can do? They need to stop the babying already!

  • Shea2citi

Satin sucks. It’d time to do something with him. Also I would have had d’Arnaud batting ahead of him.

  • George_Theodore

you need a strong arm to play ss.. if he really has a throwing problem, the only option is 1b

  • Kian Momeni

there minors numbers are pretty similar but Campbell can play more positions

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

No one seems to mind bringing up Wally Backmans personal life when a managers job is mentioned or Donald Sterlings personal life who seems to be the talk of The Americas.

Just saying….People get offended when you talk about certain peoples personal lives but its free game on others….interesting

  • MetsfanInParadise

We have better options now than we did in the past. Campbell is a great idea. How’s Lutz doing?

  • Taskmaster4450

I agree…I would like to see what Duda can do against lefties although Hamels is a tough assignment.

  • billpulsipher

TC continues his obsession on falling in love with bench players (EY, Satin, Turner, baxter)

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    I dont doubt that

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Move Wright to 2B in 2015 and bring up Wilmer Flores for 3B.

  • Kian Momeni

wow that was a real “bullet” huh?

  • dnotch

They remind TC of his career as a player

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

I love everyone now saying Satin sucks…it was only a month ago that they wanted him as the starter at 1B over Ike and Duda(I wasnt 1 of them). Fair weather Mets fans

    A little perspective….

The guy has only received “16 AT BATS”…16 AT BATS that were scattered over a long time frame. If David Wright only received 16 at batds he would suck too. Look how bad TDA looked after getting way more playing time

  • KMO82

Ball girl almost went for it.

  • Kian Momeni

We know what he is as a hitter. Given that Duda is officially our starting first baseman, it would literally make no difference if someone like campbell came up instead

  • MetsfanInParadise

I really wish there was less finger pointing on here. The truth is, none of our opinions matters a damn. Only things actually said and done by players and management actually matter.

  • KMO82

I’ve wanted Soup over Satin for a while.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Tejada’s only 2 XBH behind Wright

  • Taskmaster4450

Damn. Now Cohen is going to go on and on about the Met pitchers with no hits.

  • Kian Momeni

every 3 innings of every game…

  • Taskmaster4450

    He is annoying.

It was like the no hitter streak before Johan threw one….always counting.

  • Kian Momeni

    lol… so predictable

  • Tommy Med

Tejada, pitcher, EYjr is just flat out nauseating

  • Jgreen

    JUST HIT DAMN FLY BALL

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

Can we get this run home? Please?

  • 3doza33

    Ey is a horrible hitter!!

  • George_Theodore

and that’s why EYJ should be on the bench

  • MetsfanInParadise

They’re the guys he looked up to.

  • LIMetfan22

Seems to me that he never hits from the right side.

  • BigAl831

    Way to go Murph!

  • KMO82

    There ya go Murph

  • 3doza33

    Thank u Murphy!!!

  • Jgreen

    Murph always does it!

  • Shea2citi

EY should not be starting. That 4 outfield rotation is a ridiculous idea. Not surprising coming from TC.

  • Ted Danson

Thanks Murph. No thanks to EY.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Da Murph!

  • Andrew Herbst

Nice hitting Murph! He should stay in the 2 hole.

  • LIMetfan22

Jeeze…David just not looking right at all

  • Shea2citi

Professional hitter. PROFESSIONAL! Murph can always be counted on.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

    Horrible idea, Murph.

  • MetsfanInParadise

At the moment we don;t have three obviously better choices, the way CY and Grandy have hit so far. In time it’ll sort itself out

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Lol way to bail Wright out

  • Jgreen

    that was rare

  • MetsfanInParadise

    But amateur baserunner

  • Taskmaster4450

    Murphy giveth and he taketh.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

Only until d’Arnaud hits more consistently. I’d like Murph 5th.

  • Taskmaster4450

Anyone else notice Wright swinging for the fences all the time?

  • Shaun

Not terrible to be aggressive there. Wright is down in the count 0-2 so he gets a reset on the at bat. If he makes it Wright can score him on a single rather than an extra base hit

  • Shea2citi

Agreed! He has stolen 27 straight bases though.

  • TheMets philosophy

So murph record ends as second best in teem history .and wright gets bailed out:)

  • Shaun

Doesn’t end the streak as he wasn’t running on the pitch

  • Rocky Thompson

EY may be the Mets best leadoff hitter, but he is not the best #1 hitter. He has to be able to put the ball in play with one out and a runner on 3rd.

  • Anthony

    Evening all. Lgm

  • Shea2citi

The record is still intact. It wasn’t considered a caught stealing. Just a 2 to 4.

  • MetsfanInParadise

I know. It was just a nice word contrast with the original comment. I’m a “Mur-phan.”

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

    Get ready for another delay.

  • LIMetfan22

He looks awful. I’ve always had average confidence when he comes up to the plate that he’ll get a hit but lately I basically assume it’s either an out or a dinky single.

  • TheMets philosophy

Yes you are rite so good job bailing out wright i guess 🙂

  • George_Theodore

his sidearm throwing points to a shoulder problem, which probably wouldn’t help his hitting… wonder how long they try to hide that as he throws like an old lady?

  • Andrew Herbst

I think he is best suited 2nd or 5th.

  • pastline63

    Please-please-PLEASE, BEAT ASScole Hamels.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Campbell come up to do what exactly??? Ride the pine and rarely if ever get an at bat???

We know as much about what Satin is as we do about Campbell. Campbell is just the new FLAVOR OF THE MONTH!

    Mets fans are FICKLE!

  • mets4lyfe

What is Kevin Burkhardt talking about? Matt Reynolds profiles as a above-average defensive SS. If he continues to hit, he becomes a legitimate SS prospect.

  • mad met

    If anything firstbase

  • pastline63

It seems as if he feels only one that can do it -pressing, noticed that too.

  • So how bad is Wally that he is still blackballed in a league (the Mets are really only ones offering) where guys like Collins are here and LaRussa is a HOF.

Makes you wonder if we even know half the story. Fact is Wally may never get a shot and that’s not on the Mets as no one else is offering either.

  • Jon looks really solid tonight – don’t let this turn into one of those 45 minute rain delays where the starter can’t come back out

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    Jon Niese > Cliff Lee
    Jon Niese > Cole Hamels
    Jon Niese > Clayton Kershaw

    FACTS!
    LGM!

  • delete

  • KennyandtheMets

Where did Tejada hit his double? I missed it. How did Murph get him in?

  • pastline63

He played 1st a great deal till senior yr of high school, and minors played some.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Not to jinx it but hes got a no-no

  • Taskmaster4450

    Over the 3B bag.

Murphy singled him in from third.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

LoL…Why whenever Wright looks bad everyone wants to say it must be an injury…Why cant it just be he is struggling, lol

  • Bail4Nails

I completely disagree with Gary and Ron about Tejada. If you have a more productive hitter in Tejada’s place, it takes some of the pressure off the other names in this lineup.
Any chance Reynolds could be big-league ready this season?

  • TDA > Johnny Bench * Mike Piazza ^ Thurman Munson

  • NYM86

Wright can’t even hit a HR at CBP anymore lol he had that squared up perfectly.

  • Kian Momeni

Gary has been pretty off on reading HR balls

  • Jgreen

    CBP warning track power?

  • mets4lyfe

Oh, for people who want to see how Matt Reynolds is doing at AA:

    .389/.464/.458

He pretty much profiles as a line-drive hitter who has a solid eye at the plate.

  • KennyandtheMets

Thanks. Where have Murphy’s two hits been hit to?

  • Manager of The Year

I’m not sure but is the ball isn’t wet and the air isn’t wet I think that ball goes out

  • BigAl831

To be fair I’ve thought they were all gone off the bat too….

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

David Wright has warning track power at Citizens Bank Park now.

    Scary

  • LIMetfan22

He hit it off the end of the bat.

  • Manager of The Year

If I remember correctly he made an amazing diving jumping play on a high line drive during spring training

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Lets not get too excited… I’m pretty sure that just missed the warning track

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

marlins beat braves 9-0 behind fernandez. nats losin 3-2. 2.5 back here we come.

  • LIMetfan22

    Well K for Grandy.

  • KennyandtheMets

Nah. Lets keep the lead until the end of the 5th, then call it a night. 🙂

  • BigAl831

Niese and Hamels actually are pretty similar “stuff” wise. Although Hamels’ obviously has the very special change up.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Matt Reynolds isnt that good his defense has been poor since being drafted. He has always projected to be a poor mans Zack Cozart.

  • Manager of The Year

Grandy has gotten on twice in a row today. Is that a record or something?

  • KMO82

    Come on Satin.

  • mets4lyfe

Here’s something to digest, The Orioles have banned their top pitching prospects in the minors from throwing the cutter. Their top pitching prospect, Bundy, had his potentially devastating cutter taken away him.

  • LIMetfan22

Wow. How does that impact his prospect ranking?

  • BigAl831

Really? Interesting. Can you link that?

  • LIMetfan22

Nows the time to pile on but this situation is too golden for the Mets to capitalize on.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

PSL is getting killed tonight. Only 5 scattered hits, 2 by Herrera.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Cmon bases loaded for TDA with his 1st grand slam?

  • mets4lyfe
  • mets4lyfe

Not too much considering Bundy still had his plus fastball, plus curveball, and above-average changeup.

  • Manager of The Year

Hamel’s command is looking very bad. On the other hand Niese is looking good

  • LIMetfan22

That was a borderline strike. Good pitch

  • BigAl831

    Thanks.

  • Kian Momeni

now Satin will strike out swinging at a pitch out of the plate

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Great job by Satin taking to meatballs down the middle

  • KMO82

    nice.

  • Ted Danson

    ABout time Satin.

  • LIMetfan22

    WTF was that?????

  • Ted Danson

LOL anyone hear “Hey Tejada YOU SUCK”?

  • mets4lyfe

Most recent reports state he’s above-average at SS. It’s all about whether he hits or not.

EDIT: Quote from his manager Pedro Lopez:

“We all knew that he’s a kid that’s always been known for his bat,” B-Mets manager Pedro Lopez said. “He’s a pretty good defensive shortstop, but he’s done some damage in the past. Last year was just a down year for him, but what I heard from everybody who had seen him play was they felt like he was going to be a good hitter.”

  • KMO82

    Always lol.

  • Taskmaster4450

    Bad AB for TdA.

  • Metsfan27

    that was hilarious

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Thank god TDA isnt the #2 hitter…its bad enough our #1 hitter EY sucks.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

tejada is crushing lefties this year. big hit coming.

  • mets4lyfe

    That was a terrible at-bat by d’Arnaud.

Looked like he was trying to hit a 3-run HR off one of the best LHP in the game.

  • Shea2citi

Horrendous at bat by d’Arnaud. As bad as I’ve seen one.

  • Bail4Nails

    Don’t forget Dykstra.

  • Andrew Herbst

That was a terrible at bat by d’Arnaud.

  • Waz0787

Tda Usually never strikeouts but he strikeout when you need him to put the ball in contact. Thanks sandy Meyers would’ve looked nice in met uniform.

  • Kian Momeni

Tejada should be swinging here regardless… with Niese on deck

  • BarnRat

Can we please stop hitting/walking until this is official ?

  • LIMetfan22

    Maybe he’ll walk Niese

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Josh Thole > Mike Nickeas >TDA

  • Taskmaster4450

Hamels pitch count going up and the Phils BP outside of Papelbon is terrible.

  • Metsfan27

    Hole Camels

  • Metfan9876

Most people did not want to part with what the Royals wanted for Myers. And if we had traded for him, we’d have no Syndergaard.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

If Niese doesnt get a hit we wont score he cant take a walk because EYjr is an automatic OUT!

  • Waz0787

Heck I will take castro or blanco back.

  • BCleveland3381

Hamels is all over the place.

  • LIMetfan22

Niese taking these next 2 pitches?

  • Come on, Niese. End it at 0 for 41 in honor of Seaver.

  • KMO82

    at least one.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

you’re kidding right? Cause Mike Trout never strikes out. He’s a rookie batting against one of the best lefties in the game. 1 AB.

  • Manager of The Year

It comes down to Syndergaard and TDA or Myers and Odorozzi

  • KMO82

    nice.

  • Andrew Herbst

    Good eye Jon!

  • Metsfan27

    Haha! Silly Hamels!

  • LIMetfan22

    What a choke artist.

  • Ted Danson

    LOL Hamels

  • Super T

And that’s exactly why the offense shouldn’t be going up there and swinging at the 1st pitch!

  • Nice Hamels. You should get that RBI.

  • mets4lyfe

Basically, Jon Niese has a Brandon Nimmo-esque eye at the plate.

  • Manager of The Year

Well our worst hitter is up at the plate. EY going for the silver sumbrero here

  • mr. belvedere

EY should ambush this first pitch

  • Metfan9876

I’d rather have Noah over Odorizzi, without a doubt and we needed a catcher desperately.

  • Kian Momeni

    Niese>Hamels

  • BarnRat

    5 innings please

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Someone needs to give EYjr the sign to TAKE EVERY PITCH!

The bat shouldnt leave his shoulders, this guy cant hit.

  • Super T

    I hope you’re kidding!

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

a very methodical 3 runs so far. been easy.

  • Waz0787

All I have to say our pitchers are working really hard with our hitting coach. They all love to draw walks. Alderson must be proud

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

LOL@Eric Young Jr and 0-2 with 2 STRIKEOUTS!!!!

And he is a must start LMFAO!!!

  • Taskmaster4450

    Pinch hit for him?

  • LIMetfan22

Can EY hit the ball with some fukcing authority for once

  • But TC can’t afford to have him on the bench regularly.

  • Ted Danson

Good God EY is just a terrible hitter.

  • KennyandtheMets

    Who is choking now Cole?!

    LMAO!!!!

  • mets4lyfe

it really doesn’t surprise me that a pitcher is more likely come through in a RISP situation than EYJ.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

bases clearing double for EY coming up

  • Manager of The Year

Lagares can only come back fast enough

  • mr. belvedere

Abreu should start for EY tomorrow

  • Andrew Herbst

Does TC still think we should go with 4 outfielders?

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

well, the bases are cleared at least.

  • Wolfmicky21

    EY has got to go

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Only in the comic book

  • Taskmaster4450

EY supporters want to point to the SB and runs scored.

Here is a simple question, how many men has he left on base?

That is 8 in the last two games.

  • Destry

There is no reason to be swinging in that situation what so ever. Hamels had thrown almost 40 pitches in that inning while walking 4 batters and EY swings at a 1-0 pitch. That’s just plain awful

  • Skip

    Ummm yea…. Not tonight…..

  • BarnRat

    He’s only hitting 1/2 Colon’s weight…

  • TheMets philosophy

Ey didnt even take any pitches from hamells the guy just walked 3 batters!

  • But will be watching EY from the bench every few days sitting next to our genius manager.

  • BCleveland3381

Don’t believe anything Terry says. How many times did he say X player was going to start playing more often only to watch them sit on the bench last year? Remember when Duda won the starting job before Ike got traded, and then he started less than half the games for 2 weeks? What Terry says to the media doesn’t mean squat. EY isn’t hitting and everyone knows it. He’s a weapon when he gets on base, he just can’t do it. Lagares, CY, and Grandy will be our starting OF when Juan comes back.

  • OriginalMetsFan

Wowwwww so the pitcher just got walked with the bases loaded and you couldn’t take 1 strike?????? Pothetic……

  • Skip

Well atleast he didn’t strike out. Looking for the positive

  • Waz0787

You are hilarious. Meyers over TDA anyday

  • Andrew Herbst

It stinks that this probably won’t be an official game.

  • You are banned from the locker room starting immediately.

  • Waz0787

Meyers anyday. Noah hasn’t pitch an inning in the big. We can’t score runs

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

LMAO….Yeah I just love how he ignored Myers the Rookie of the year in the AL last year smh….

  • Destry

That’s the worst thing I’ve seen any Met do this season. 40 pitches, walked 4, including the pitcher with the bases loaded, and slap hitter EY is swinging away at a 1-0 pitch?

  • Kian Momeni

Yeah, after Mejia surprisingly got the 5th starter spot, it cleared up the idea that Terry has any authority over the decisions made for this team.

  • mets4lyfe

EYJ is never going to touch .330 OBP with regular playing time seeing as he can’t hit.

He also has a .311 OBP so his ability to steal bases becomes sort of irrelevant.

  • Tectaru

You gotta give him a shot. he made contact on that last at-bat. It means hes starting to come around. ><

  • Manager of The Year

Come on Niese get em out quick

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Id have no problem with Myers on my tea right now. Even if it involved not having TDA we’d still have tons of pitching.

  • Kian Momeni

5 inning no hitter for Niese?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Eric Young Jr. is the WORST!!!!

  • Kian Momeni

    wow

  • This is your fault.

  • Andrew Herbst

    Yep. We need quick outs.

  • Destry

Im convinced that if Sandy would just take the bullpen decision making away from TC also, that we are 5 games better off over the course of a full season.

  • LIMetfan22

    you…..

  • KMO82

There is a break coming in the rain. Then more heavy stuff after that.

  • MetsfanInParadise

As soon as Darling says “the ball is going nowhere” it usually flies out.

According to Gary Marlon tied the game.

  • Metsfan27

    cmon dude

  • mets4lyfe

I don’t understand why baseball analysts are acting as if Utley’s resurrected himself from the dead. Dude had a .823 OPS last year in 131 games, that’s pretty elite for a 2B.

  • Jgreen

every time Darling say the ball can’t be hit out of the park guees what? HR

  • mets4lyfe

I’ve gotten the feeling over the past couple of years that Niese isn’t the most intelligent of pitchers. He knows Byrd’s a low-ball and down-and-in kind of hitter, but he kept throwing him cutters low and inside.

  • Jgreen

    wow that wasn’t double?

I was secretly hoping he would just bunt Murphy over…at least get a productive at bat.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    THAT was a stike!?!?

  • Tectaru

I love traveling with the team but I refuse to go to Philly to watch a game, bunch of uncivilized animals.

  • mets4lyfe

Wright’s batspeed looks considerably slower than previous years.

  • Destry

Except for the fact that the Royals werent’ trading us Myers for DIckey, so who would you have traded?

  • Taskmaster4450

If it was on a tee, Wright would still hit a weak fly ball.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

David Wright signs a big contract and decides to cake walk and Stink up the joint…

This guy is stealing Mets money….maybe he is the new Jason Bay.

  • Anthony

    Has ryne sandberg ever smiled?

  • corny12491

    Ron Darling > Terry Collins

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Yea.. I guess don’t expect any breaks..

  • mets4lyfe

EYJ’s not “igniting” anything with his inability to hit and his .311 OBP.

  • Destry

    New goal

  • Skip

    Damn New York owners!!!!

  • Murph for MVP.

  • Metsfan27

25-30 stolen bases for Murph this year?

  • LIMetfan22

    Murphy having a great game.

  • Run Support Group

He signed the contract, what, 3 years ago?? So he’s off to a slow start. He’s been one of the best position players on baseball the past 2 years

  • Super T

28 in a row, Murph haters pretty quiet tonight!

  • Kian Momeni

Murph is a free agent in 2016. Would you give him an extension and have him as our long term 2nd baseman and take the defense that he gives us

  • Run Support Group

    good hitting!

  • KMO82

    Nice.

  • BarnRat

So you duck-in looking for negativity. I suppose…

  • Destry

    He’s stolen 30 straight

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Alright I’m kind of getting tired of all this… We all know DW is going to have a good productive year hes been doing it for 9 years now..

  • Ted Danson

    NICE!

  • Shaun

It’s like a company mandate that they can’t mention him without saying something like that. it’s so frustrating.

  • KMO82

Which to me would be amazing, Murph has average speed at best.

  • Nice and Murph made that run happen. MVP.

  • MetsfanInParadise

In 1986 i went to Philly and saw them fail to clinch 3 nights in a row.

  • Jgreen

    Wow Murph made that play

  • TheMets philosophy

David Wright has now gone 100 at-bats without a homer. His career-long is 101.

  • Andrew Herbst

Good hitting by CY! I like how he’s been swinging the bat lately.

  • Manager of The Year

Wright’s arm looking weaker his swing looking slower. I think something is wrong with him. Hopefully it’s a DTD thing and not another trip to the DL

  • Destry

So we can be worse offensively and defensively at 2B

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    We should trade Wright NOW!

Id take prospects and wouldnt complain….screw his no trade the Wilpons specialize in making players WANT to bolt town.

  • Skip

    Looking like a bargain

  • Destry

    Its an art

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

I would be outraged if they traded DW i don’t care who we get

  • Bail4Nails

CY in LF, Lagares in CF, Grandy in RF. Any other setup is clearly a mistake.

  • Run Support Group

It all depends on the return. If it meant a big time OF/Starlin Castro I’d pull the trigger

  • Run Support Group

    Meh, Grandy hit it hard

  • BCleveland3381

Trade Wright and replace him with what? Flores? You think our offense is bad now….

  • Run Support Group

    LOL

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

As far as I know Sandy Alderson. He is the only one I know with a military background on the team.

IDK if he was active in WAR though

  • Destry

Something is wrong with Wright. He owns Cole Hamels. .364 4 HRs coming into the game, and has gotten meatballs right in his power zone.

  • KMO82

    That it is.

  • Taskmaster4450

Wright has a no trade and I dont think he would wave it to go anywhere.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Read what I wrote again I addressed that

  • Super T

The Phillies bullpen has been statistically among the worst in MLB this year too. Why a smart team runs up Hamels pitching count and gets him out of the game quickly.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    Wright is DONE!

    That dude is cooked.

  • Run Support Group

    Come on Travis

  • Run Support Group

    CY’s in Cole’s head

  • KMO82

I like Young trying to go to third.

  • He should have charged the mound.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

yes, no question 4 years 50 mil

  • Manager of The Year

I’d be happy with a single

  • Run Support Group

    Here comes a fat fastball

  • BigAl831

You literally out dumb yourself with every single comment. Keep em coming.

  • Stop with the Colon jokes already.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    lol

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

The 2014 David Wright is the same as the 2009 David Wright with No power

  • Run Support Group

BRING IN THE LOLPEN COME ON RYNE

  • Run Support Group

    Stop. It’s been 25 games.

  • BigAl831

Ruben’s OBP is quietly climbing. Maybe he gets hot lets do it!

  • mets4lyfe

Wonder if Hamels is injured again.

  • Waz0787

    Tejeda GS!!!!!!

  • Tectaru

That must have been painful. At least the stadium was mostly Mets fans.

I assume all Philly fans either actively start fights or will throw beer on you to try to get you to start the fight.

  • Run Support Group

    RUBEN FREAKING TEJADA LOL

  • Manager of The Year

    I’m wondering that with Wright

  • BigAl831

    He heard you.

  • knicksjp07

    ruben!!!!

  • Ted Danson

    Take that Phillie fans!

  • NYM86

    Ruben Sandwhich!

  • BigAl831

    MY BOYYYYYY HAVE A DAY

  • KMO82

Ruben loves the bases juiced! New Clean-up hitter? lol

  • Andrew Herbst

    Tejada is on fire!

  • Run Support Group

    He still sucks 🙂

  • Metsfan27

Good job Tejada. Now how many times can you say that?

  • Anthony

    Ruben

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

no he hasnt you might want to go check the back of his baseball card

  • BigAl831

His OBP is climbing. Maybe we get our old kid back.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Wouldn’t be typical if it started poring and the game got rained out right before the end of the 5th -_-

  • igotyourbackman

    It’s all coming together.

  • BigAl831

We used to say it all the time. Not too long ago. Hopefully he stays hot for awhile!

  • Skip

    Wow. Sign him long term…..

  • Sach

Ruben- money with the bases juiced!

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Tejada looking better than David Wright.

    Just saying………………………………………

  • Destry

Stephen Drew and Rueben Tejada would be a deadly platoon. Tejada has always hit LHP very well, and he has always been terrible vs RHP

  • igotyourbackman

Yeah! Sign Hamels! I mean.. Wait what?

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

just been a steady attack this game. not really competitive. very confident team right now.

  • Run Support Group

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. But il stop ragging on him for nkw

  • everybodysbuddy

    Rubin Tejada!!!! Wowzer!

  • mets4lyfe

Tejada has a .342 OBP, but most of is inflated by IBBs and pitch arounds. It’s still nice to see though.

  • Destry

He hits lefties. Cant hit righties

  • Taskmaster4450

See what he is doing when it warms up.

If he is still hitting the warning track, then that contract will instantly start becoming an albatross.

  • BCleveland3381

    Ultimate troll.

  • TheMets philosophy

The mets need to get out of this inning already to make the game official!

  • BigAl831

We get it. You are very jealous that David Wright doesn’t call you anymore and you want his pee pee in and around your mouth. Stop being bitter JEEZ.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    stop… just STOP

  • BarnRat

Note to Mets: look at the radar and swing at anything.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

How many games should I wait?

  • Skip

    Now relax”….

  • Mario Gonzalez

    LMFAO!!!!!

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

It is warmed up well every other day except for today

  • mets4lyfe

Jon Niese should be the Mets lead-off hitter.

  • Destry

Hes been really good defensively this season

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    ok…

  • BarnRat

    Good point LOL

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

He gets on more than EYJ!

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

You know its bad when the fans get hyped after the PITCHER struck out..

  • Destry

Except all we have to do is sign Stephen Drew and we can keep the proposed SP & Murphy AND be better at SS than we would be with Castro

  • TheMets philosophy

This game isnt official untill EY strikes out

  • igotyourbackman

Pinocchio looks at TC- “You have potential. Oh boy.”

  • BigAl831

You didn’t know? BBLB has openly admitted that he is in love with both Wright and Wheeler. I say good for him but he just has this bitterness about them not feeling the same way that drives me crazy.

  • Taskmaster4450

Where were you…it was brutal in Flushing for the Marlin series…winds blowing in and in the 40s and 50s.

    Not exactly hitters weather.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Shocking a dude who dubs himself “Big Al” who’s in love with Wright(another man) spouts out gay innuendos on a baseball site.

Yes we know what you like around YOUR mouth Al

    http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51KZ05hpxxL._SY300_.jpg

  • BigAl831

AWWW I LOVE THAT SHOW AND CHARACTER!!!!!!

  • igotyourbackman

I think the players quietly canned that crap.

  • Destry

    He would sign a 5 yr $40 mil deal for his age 30, 31, 32, 33, & 34 seasons.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Im sure you do love him….Nancy

  • TheMets philosophy

The mets should get s/o to sponser the golden sombrero for EY

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    Are you watching the game?

    Its true.

  • BigAl831

AWWWW YOU HAVE SUCH A CRUSH ON ME IT’S RIDICULOUS!

Pick one guy and stick to him jeezzzzz

  • Taskmaster4450

Get someone up in the BP.

    Niese is losing it.

He was hit hard last inning and now is 3-0.

  • KMO82

Puello and Flores back in the lineup for the 51’s.

  • I see Terry Collins in that picture they are showing.

  • igotyourbackman

    Uh huh

    Popped him up

  • Destry

He also isn’t a SS. He has 6 errors already and ZERO range.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

goood game to get familia and valverde some work isn’t it? how long do we stay with Niese tonight in these conditions?

  • Waz0787

    Valverde? no!!!!!!

  • coyote521

You can tell its philadelohia because one of the fans is puking on a little girl.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

Well if you want to blow the lead… Sure! lets bring in valverde!

  • JerseyCityMetsFan

70 pitches. He can go at least 6

  • Manager of The Year

My friend is offering me Dominic Brown for George Springer on Fantasy? I don’t think I should do it but any advise

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    Springer has too much upside

  • Mike Lloyd

    Coyote-that’s funny shi* right there.

  • Destry

His best months throughout his career have been May, June and July. Lets revisit this at the All-Star break. Until then, keep embarrassing yourself. By the way, we are about to be 15-11. Can you get behind what you claim is your team? We’re pretty darn good.

  • LIMetfan22

    DON’T DO THAT.

  • KMO82

    I wouldn’t.

  • mets4lyfe

Niese’s arm angle has dropped considerably.

  • Destry

    Is it a keeper league?

  • Skip

We need another lefty in the pen….

  • Run Support Group

I’ve noticed this as well. Bring in Familia now

  • Andrew Herbst

TC will say that Tejada is starting to regain his .290 form from the 2012 season.

  • Manager of The Year

He got my 2 RBI’s tonight giving me the lead league in RBI and now I’m first overall so I’m pretty happy

  • Super T

Wilmer is playing 1B for the 51s tonight. Why? If the team is really serious about him possibly taking Tejeda’s job – he needs to be playing SS EVERY GAME.

  • JerseyCityMetsFan

I would. Springer will be the better player career wise, but once the westher heats up that damn philly will start launching home runs in that tiny park

  • Mike Lloyd

Seems his velocity is down a tic as well. I agree Task.

  • BarnRat

    OK, that’s funny

  • Destry

He is actually one of our best hitters vs RHP.

  • Taskmaster4450

Jammed a finger the other day.

  • Run Support Group

    Jammed finger

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Do me a favor and dont get me mixed in with your disgusting homosexual lifestyle.

  • Manager of The Year

Yes it is so I think I’ll just keep him

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

TC: Well he got a couple of hits tonight… He might be an all-star this year…

  • Destry

Well, he does have 6 errors in just a handful of games, and he isn’t gonna magically become fast, or have the necessary range for SS

  • Run Support Group

“We just gotta get him going….”

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

TC: It might take a couple of years but he’ll get going.

  • Super T

Didn’t realize that was why he was at 1B, thanks.

  • Andrew Herbst

    He’s a professional hitter.

  • In a keeper league, I think it’s almost a no-brainer.

  • Destry

If its a keeper league you definitely keep Springer

  • Run Support Group

But I think 5 of the 6 were throwing errors .

  • Taskmaster4450

What? Did the Mets get Ike back?

  • KennyandtheMets

Lets put this one in the books fellas!

Seriously, no lead is safe in that ball park. Keep piling it on.

  • Super T

Didn’t realize that was why he was at 1B, thanks..

  • Run Support Group

TERRY YOU DOLT DONT WASTE DICE K

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    Yea we gave them Nimmo

  • Nice hat, Dice-K.

  • Julian

    I actually laughed out loud

  • Run Support Group

    He’s a baseball player

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

If its a keeper league dont do it.

If its a redraft Id do it, since Springer hasnt looked good so far and might be sent down to season more.

  • TheMets philosophy

Most his errors did not come on lack of range they were mostly throwing errors wich can be fixed with time

  • Run Support Group

    JLAG come back!

  • Super T

The organization is the one who has been leaking the possibilities of him playing SS in the bigs.

  • MetsFanSantaMonica

relax – he likes to warm up every game starting in the 6th inning just in case.

  • mets4lyfe

    Jose Fernandez is scary dominant.

  • Run Support Group

Is there anyway soup can play SS once in a whike

  • Andrew Herbst

He sure is. He’s a baseball player who plays the game the right way.

  • Emmanuel

Nimmo is too… in High A Ball

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Well none of that is stopping Tejada or Quintanilla playing SS in the majors cant see why it would stop Wilmer at least he brings something to the table otherwise(a bat)

  • Run Support Group

Here comes the “why did we take”Nimmo” comments

  • Emmanuel

    English please

  • Waz0787

Nimmo better be mantle and ruth type or else Fernandez will haunt mets fan for next 15+ years.

  • Super T

Wish the Mets would come up some alternate plan to Tejeda and stick with it.

  • Run Support Group

    Sorry. Autocorrect

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    lol

  • mets4lyfe

I actually wanted the Mets to pick him with the 13th pick. It doesn’t matter anymore, but I thought Fernandez should’ve been heavily considered by the Mets.

He was throwing 98 mph with a devastating slurve as an 18 year-old in Florida. Most scouting reports had his worst case scenario as a closer.

  • Waz0787

    Wright should be batting 2nd.

  • Destry

Well, that remains to be seen, because his offensive numbers thus far have been terrible. Worse than TDA’s whom you keep ridiculing, but at least he can handle a premium position. Flores is hitting .250 in Vegas by the way. TDA hit .400 there

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Good at bat by David Wright.

  • Manager of The Year

“You suck Wright” God the fans in Philadelphia are toxic. (I left out a vulgar word)

  • Yes, because we keep it classy in NY. 😉

  • BarnRat

Waz, I offer you a 21 yr old in high A who’s batting .400. Blind draw against the rest of his draft class, do you take or pass?

  • Destry

That’s even worse because the only reason he was a possibility at SS was because of his strong and accurate arm

  • metsman

I love Rollin’s reaction to EY’s speed even on the routine ground ball. That’s respect.

  • Gland1

Did you read that on this blog?

  • Run Support Group

    We’re not Philly tho

  • That is true. They are horrible.

  • KMO82

Was Harper giving the finger there? lol

  • JerseyCityMetsFan

    Americas armpit

  • Run Support Group

    And a .530 OBP

  • Manager of The Year

No I heard it through the game

  • Waz0787

    We missed you brother

  • Who would write that here?

  • Run Support Group

    His twitter is already deleted

  • mr1313

    lol.

  • Destry

Yeah cause we drafted Nimmo first overall, and Fernandez went 2nd. COme on dude. 17 other teams passed on Jose. Grow up

  • Ted Danson

    grab some vicodin

  • Tectaru

    I’ll bite:

    1. Gerrit Cole, RHP – Bucs

    2. Danny Hultzen, LHP – Mariners
    3. Trevor Bauer, RHP – Dbacks
    4. Dylan Bundy, RHP – Orioles

    5. Bubba Starling, OF – Royals

    6. Anthony Rendon, 3B – Nats
    7. Archie Bradley, RHP – Dbacks

    8. Francisco Lindor, SS – Reds

    9. Javier Baez, SS – Cubs

    10. Cory Spangenberg, 2B – Padres
    11. George Springer, OF – Astros
    12. Taylor Jungmann, RHP – Mil.

    13. Brandon Nimmo, OF – Mets <~~~~ WTF!

    14. Jose Fernandez, RHP – Fish

  • Waz0787

I am just saying. I like nimmo a lot. But is an elite type of pitcher

  • Gland1

There’s my buddy. How are we doing tonight?

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

LOL nats losing to houston 2-3

  • KMO82

    Looky looky

  • Run Support Group

WOW WRIGHTS OVER THE HILL WHAT A BUm

  • mets4lyfe

I never thought Jungmann would still be in the minors. He was projected to be a polished college SP that would climb up the system fast and be a solid MLB starter.

  • Metsfan27

    hot dog bun?

  • Wright seemed shocked that he had it.

  • Super T

Utley’s got some nice entrance music.

  • JerseyCityMetsFan

    Butt cheek bun?

  • Kian Momeni

kinda unnecessarily made it look like a tough play when it was just a routine ground out

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Uhhh, TDA never hit .400 anywhere.

TDA hit .333 in HALF-A-Season in Vegas in 2012 as a 23yr old.

    BUT

Wilmer Flores hit .321 there in 2013 as a 21yr old(youngest in the league).

    So your argument is void.

  • Waz0787

I took your advice decided to more polite and sensitive towards other.

  • Manager of The Year

    Yankees losing 6-2

  • KMO82

    In-between hop.

  • Stop with the Colon jokes.

  • mr1313

He injured his hand probably can’t throw well at the moment.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

    Can the night get better?

  • Gland1

The Wright complaining took place about a half hour ago

  • Gland1

I’m sure your karma will appreciate it! 😉

  • Metsfan27

Wasn’t a Colon joke but alright

  • KMO82

Good, we can’t have that lol.

  • Anthony Delgado *17 WS Champs*

If you mention food in a sentance its automaticly a Colon joke

  • Waz0787

Read below. I love nimmo and I want him to be an star. Nimmo is my hope. He will be special but as of now fernandez looks like an elite type of pitcher in the majors.

  • skiplockweird

Had to listen to the Phillies broadcast in the car. Larry Andersen and some other guy. They were so bad they made me miss Lorne Browne and Steve Albert.

  • Yeah, I had also posted “Wright sucks” when he popped out earlier. I was kidding though he did suck in that moment.

  • Yes, my post was a joke, though.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

In a few games in A-ball

  • Waz0787

    Lexapro

  • MikePiazza3186

If the starters can stay on track most of the year we are gonna have a fun summer

  • KMO82

I said there was a break in the rain where we could get this game in and then some heavy stuff, well its about there, this could be ball game.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Once again they’re not adding runs, or even hits, late.

  • skiplockweird

The rain is back. They have my permission to stop.

  • greg

    “Fly ball… caught.”

  • skiplockweird

Grandy doing his part to move the game along.

  • skiplockweird

    Yup. Exactly.

  • MetsAussieNation

    that k rate is spooky.

  • Waz0787

When is it official to say ganderson is a bust?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

They should wrap this game up you could here the rain drops pounding the stadium.

  • Alex68 (Ch)

    Last week

  • SchadenfreudianSlip

I agree that Fernandez appears to be one of those very special arms. Never know what happens to guys throwing like that at such a young age but his talent is inarguable.

But I don’t understand the suggestion that this will somehow haunt the Mets. Will it haunt all the other teams who passed on him, and moreso those who passed and didn’t get a Nimmo? What about teams that passed on Scherzer? Teams that passed on Trout? Teams that passed on Pujols? Teams that passed on Greinke?

Great players come along every year and the vast majority of them don’t go number 1. Or 2. Or 5. None of that haunts franchises.

  • skiplockweird

Alex, on a night like tonight, that’s funny.

  • Alex68 (Ch)

Yeah, I’m really sad right now man

  • Don’t think Niese should be out there on a cold, rainy night at this point.

  • Waz0787

He is bay dejavu. They both came over al east and same, age as well.

  • BarnRat

I agree, but if we’re going to judge someone, better a small sample than some sort of religious belief.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Joey Votto having a Nimmo night minus the strikeouts, 0-0 with 3BB.

  • skiplockweird

Is it just me, or Howard hasn’t been the same since he tore his Achilles?

  • prosoundz

Daniel Murphy is my favorite player.

  • Joe

    Now here’s the question:

With our pitching rotation pitching as good as they are, do you mess with the rotation by bringing in any combination of Syndergaard / Montero / Degrom this summer? (Trading away any combination of Gee / Niese / Colon)

  • prosoundz

He’s doing great. What are you talking about?

  • Waz0787

I guess I am jealous he is not wearing a met uniform.

  • LIMetfan22

No imo. Noah has been mediocre so far anyway. Let him keep working on his stuff

  • KMO82

Depends on where we are at that point in the season and the return we are getting.

  • Lotus1209

Point is.. The lead is big enough to not force him Togo out there when it’s not necessary. Remember… One pitch could end a career. Why risk it in an almost assured win for the mets?

  • I think the risk of injury increases on a night like this so why not let the bullpen finish it off? Big lead and the bullpen has been pretty good.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

DeGrom should come up to replace someone in the pen soon. And its all based on what you are being offered by other teams IMO.

  • KMO82

This is assured? How long you been watching Met games lol.

  • Metsfan27

This is his last inning for sure.

  • skiplockweird

When did Jon niese become steve Carlton?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Niese with 103pitches thrown in nasty cold wet weather.

    Collins being Collins

  • prosoundz

Happy Bday to Gary Cohen! One of the greatest baseball broadcasters ever. He shruggs off his birthday like its no big deal. I think that is funny, considering how many people make such a big deal of theirs.

  • KMO82

Niese loves the slop, loves it!

  • WilponsNeed2Go

    Amazing performance by Niese tonight!

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    One of the Greatest!?!?

    -_-

  • SchadenfreudianSlip

Agreed DeGrom will be here shortly. I wouldn’t rush to trade either of the other two. Not the end of the world if Syndy spends a full year in AAA, though we’d all be happy to see him here.. And Montero, if he’s ready, could spend a month or two up here in the pen as well.

All that said, your’e not making it through the year without someone gong down at some point for some period of time. The nature of the beast. So at least one of those guys will get a shot.

  • WilponsStinkLessNow

That’s how it’s done, Cole. Better luck next time, choke artist.

He’s is throwing nice and easy despite the rain wind and cold. Maybe the cold is numbing his arm and making it feel good. Sort of like a constant ice pack on the arm.

  • WilponsStinkLessNow

    His mother was a mudder.

  • skiplockweird

He’s a mudder. And the Phil’s look like they want to go home and get under a warm blankie

A strong finish to a great outing, and well-supported, to boot. How many times do our starters wind up with a ND after a start like this?

  • SchadenfreudianSlip

    His father was a mudder.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Appy Birthday Gary Cohen! Working sick on his birthday, true professional!

  • I don’t agree with the 7th inning but boy did he tough it out. It’s great to see Niese pitching like this.

    THE greatest?

  • WilponsStinkLessNow

I like Gary. He does a great job with Seton Hall basketball games too.

  • I am quite sure if he winds up as Harper, we’ll take that as well.

  • MetsfanInParadise

And his mudder was his sister and his son was his brudder (oh, wait–that was Oedipus Rex)

  • WilponsStinkLessNow

I think he’s performing just as you would expect, but the balls he’s hitting to RF and CF-RF are not going out bc (1) its Citi field and (2) its a cold, rainy and windy April. Seems to me he’s hitting like normal.

  • SchadenfreudianSlip

I remember for years people used to talk about how we could have had Doc AND Clemens. Some things aren’t meant to be. It certainly should cushion the blow to watch what our staff is doing now, with Montero and Syndy and DeGrom and Matz right behind them.

Oh, hey, also there’s this kid named Harvey coming back next year as well.

  • October 10. Write it down. At least get me some Mets baseball for my birthday.

  • prosoundz

In his memory? Did he die?

  • Sach

Of course, it’s hindsight and water under the bridge, but at the time I think the Mets needed to roll the dice on the possible young gun, centerpiece for the middle of the order for the future especially with Wright not what he used to be. Obviously, the Mets have stressed the positional player over the SP in the 1st round in the past 3 drafts and rightfully so.

  • Probably looking at 2 innings from Dice-K if all goes well, I suppose. Poor Familia.

Nice stretch by Lucas. The ladies will be impressed. Did anyone read the report today he had an imitation breitling watch stolen?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Im just thinking about last year where Niese injured himself in a similar game early in the season is all.

  • only in some offensive categories. Schmidt has him beat in others.

  • Mike Lloyd

I think Chago’s legacy to us all is his love of life and baseball-it’s his gift to us all. That said perhaps a weekly article called Chago’s Corner-with maybe someone writing up a minor league player or teaching about situational baseball , or just proper fundamental s. Or an MILB scoreboard on the mainpage updated play by play and call that Chago’s Corner.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

I dont worry myself with Ryne Sandberg or Hamels they arent Mets.

  • Alex is known for his fair and logical assessments of situations

  • WilponsStinkLessNow

I dont understand defensive indifference. It’s a free pass to get an out. Worst case scenario the throw gets by and he’s on third with two outs.

  • MyasDaddy

Do you find it ironic the way the team has played since the departure of Ike?

  • skiplockweird

Before the mid 80’s they just gave them stolen bases.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Tejada didnt cover second allows the runner to steal. I guess he’s flying pretty high on his 221 BA.

  • and he lives in Kew Gardens. I know he doesn’t make the BIG bucks but he’s making big bucks. Stop buying the knockoffs and move to Manhattan, Duda

just realized that sounded dickish. Oh well

    hahahahah

  • BCleveland3381

  • KMO82

    You know what happens now.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Theres one for the blooper reel…thanks EYJ!

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    LMFAO!

Mustve been a pretty expensive knockoff if he felt the need to file a report on it.

But when you are a millionaire like Lucas is now. You dont need to buy expensive things. Especially if youre an athlete, I assume they get lots of free stuff

  • Shaun

Thank god we’ll be able to bring Lagares in as a defensive replacement every few days so EY can get his at bats

  • MetsfanInParadise

Anyone remember the story from Ball Four about Roger Maris and the heckler?

  • I was nervous.

  • Mike Lloyd

Wow. We gotta get him going…defensively.

  • skiplockweird

Could it have been a gift from the Wilson’s?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

They said they took his check book too. Id be afraid the check would bounce if the watch is a knockoff and that would cost the robber money rather than gain a profit lol

  • Sach

    lol- where is BBLB?

  • KMO82

EY should just lead off games on the road and then be switched out with pitcher. That way Terry gets his EYjr fix and we have Young, Lagares, Granderson every day on the road.

EY should be sent to Double A when Lagares is promoted.

  • Mike Lloyd

  • KMO82

    Lol did you hear that?

  • Fast Eddie

I realize it’s cold and rainy and the score is 6 -1, but this is as empty as I’ve ever seen a ballpark in the major leagues. There is literally nobody there right now. Gary Cohen actually said he could hear individual conversations in the stands..lol. Well, we’re about to go 4 games over .500 for the first time in a long time so the attendance is pretty irrelevant…LGM!

  • Pedro’s Rooster

    Yep.

Sadly, he’s shifting from sparkplug to buttplug very quickly.

  • metsman

Did anyone notice EY pretend to throw the ball into the crowd and keep it after the last out…he’s probably hearing every last word said at that place

  • MetsfanInParadise

He put up with it for awhile, then pulled out the heavy artillery: “Hey, buddy, I’m making 60 grand (big money at the time)–how much are you making?” That shut him up. Our guys were talking about how you respond to a heckler.

  • skiplockweird

Good for ey2. Those people stink.

  • prosoundz

I apologize for my not being informed. Chago was always an interesting read. I personally have never interacted with him on the comments section but he always seemed like a great and dedicated Mets fan as we all are. I realize how much the team means to all of us as we all share the same passion, some of different levels, but none the less the same passion. From what I read, he seemed to have a great impact on many of this blog and that will be one of his many lasting impacts in this world. Though I didn’t know him personally, i feel the impact he had and he is a fellow Mets fan and he will always be a part of OUR family.

  • His best moment of the night.

  • MyasDaddy

Kinda bittersweet tonight. I hope if I ever am faced with the same situation as Chago…I wish I would have his courage. What a remarkable man.

  • Taskmaster4450

    Amen to that.

  • MetsfanInParadise

yeah, that is one empty stadium

  • Agreed. Hard to even imagine.

  • BCleveland3381

Best heckler story I heard was from Cal Ripken. He said he had an awful first week or two of the season and was hitting around .100 when they were on the road at the old Yankee Stadium. He said he could hear one fan behind the on deck circle screaming at him every time he got on deck.

The last time he got on deck, the fan finally yelled “Jesus Ripken, .100? Lou Gerhig batted .143 when he was dying!” Cal said he just turned around and gave the fan a thumbs up and chuckled.

  • Sach

And you guys think this is just at Citi Field- the economy in general for many people, lousy, cold, windy weather in the Northeast.

  • WilponsStinkLessNow

Does anyone in the bullpen have a clue when they are going to pitch next?

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

Great at bat there by the Captain David Wright.

  • MetsfanInParadise

That was a lot of noise for 9 people!

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

JoeD jinxed Travis d’Arnaud today with that post.

  • Scottydoeskno328

NOOOO not Valverde. Bring in Familia.

  • Fast Eddie

There were a lot more people in the stands when the Mets played in Colorado last year during a snowstorm…and the temps were below 30 degrees that day.

  • That was an amazing book. Highly recommended for all baseball fans.

  • prosoundz

EYJ is playing himself back to the bench.

  • Never heard that one before. Nice.

  • $14435385

If the Mets win tonight, they will be tied for the fourth best record in baseball despite being 29th (!) in OPS and batting average, 26th in HR, and 20th in runs and hits. By contrast, only two of the top 10 offensive teams in the league – Oakland and SF – are as many games over .500 as the Mets.

The lesson here, once again, is you can win with excellent pitching and a mediocre (or worse) offense, but not the other way around.

  • MyasDaddy

  • Waz0787

  • prosoundz

Pitching defense and timely hitting. Murph’s got the timely hitting thing pretty down pact.

  • MetsfanInParadise

That’s how the Giants have done it recently

  • BurnInHellWilpons

Good pitching beats good hitting, but for this team to be considered a serious threat for playoff’s and more, they need a better line up to go along with that pitching.

  • Sach

    Thanks for the insights MD92468.

  • So why not Familia in the 8th or is Dice-K our setup guy now?

  • MetsfanInParadise

There’s that “r” you keep leaving out of Grandy’s name

  • $14435385

I agree. But they’ll sink or swim with their pitching…as all teams do, eventually. And that bodes well for this franchise in the coming years…

Now remember. If you’re happy about the Mets being four games over .500 for the first time in nearly two years, you’re a dirty, rotten, no good kool-aid chugging Sandy Lover.

  • prosoundz

Man this is becoming a habit. Winning habits are starting to form on this team. What a different feeling I have watching the games. It’s almost surreal.

  • WilponsNeed2Go

Every Mets win is great. But there’s something alittle bit sweeter about beatting philly.

  • MetsfanInParadise

A Happy Recap, defeating the hated Phillies and moving to 4 games over .500 for the first time in 2 years. The Mets and Braves have only been in the same division since the 90s but the Philthies are our ancestral enemies. Hatred of them is in my DNA

Always great beating the Phils…any year, any time. Four games over .500 on April 29th…I’ll take it! And the to the 28 Philly fans still in attendance. Bye Bye…

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

I like when they win. It’s not mutually exclusive.

  • I don’t think we’ll see a big difference until about July, if they are still doing it. Just my take.

Now when will David Wright start hitting.

  • Fast Eddie

I think you’re probably right. Don’t think the fans are buying in just yet…

  • BCleveland3381

Good game in tough conditions. Phils literally looked like they just wanted to go home. I was just checking run differentials, and we’re finally above 0 sitting at +5. Arizona is the worst team in baseball at -62, which is ridiculous at this point in the year. Best team in baseball(and it isn’t close) are the Oakland As at +48.

  • I like Skip Lockwood but won’t say anything more while we should all be happy together.

  • KMO82

The real question is, if this keeps up does Sandy and Co do anything to help this team.

  • Maybe it’s you. I’ve seen movies like that.

  • Tomthetinker

I like Terry myself although he does leave me wondering at times but then again I have not and never will be 1/1000th as knowledgeable as any major league manager. As far as Sandy in concerned time and success is the only thing that is going to make me like him. Wilpons are another story.

  • Fast Eddie

Wow, Arizona at -62 at the end of April is ridiculously bad.

  • mr. belvedere

Looks like Montero got roughed up tonight…lot of walks

  • Tlagee

Cant say I blame them, especially when you see a team like the Diamondbacks, in which their pitchers are either dropping like flies or not performing the way they should. With that said, how much more pitching do they need to develop that’s close? Bowman is a few months away from coming to Vegas, and Matz will be in Binghamton (like he should’ve been from the start).

  • Taskmaster4450

And how many of those have the Mets won in 50+ years?
