MMO Game Thread: Mets vs Marlins, 1:05 PM (WOR)

bartolo colon

The New York Mets head to Jupiter to play the Miami Marlins in a 1:05 PM matinee on Saturday at Roger Dean Stadium. The game will be broadcast on WOR 710 AM.

Righthander Bartolo Colon, who is expected to start the second game of the season, opposes Marlins lefthander Brad Hand.

In his second spring start on Monday, Colon allowed four runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings, with no strikeouts and one walk. He also surrendered two home runs. Terry Collins came away impressed and said, “He’s exactly what he’s been advertised. A strike throwing machine.”

Second baseman Daniel Murphy, who was expected to return to the lineup on Saturday, did not make the trip to Jupiter to face the Miami Marlins

He told reporters that he’s feeling better and is still unsure of when he’ll return to the lineup however says it’s not a big deal.

Terry Collins held Murphy out a week to start spring training, hoping to avoid injury. He got hurt running the bases last Sunday with a calf injury that resulted from a slide at second base, and has not played since.

Here are today’s lineups:

New York Mets

  1. Eric Young Jr., lf
  2. Anthony Seratelli, 2b
  3. David Wright, 3b
  4. Curtis Granderson, rf
  5. Chris Young, cf
  6. Ike Davis, 1b
  7. Wilmer Flores, ss
  8. Travis d’Arnaud, c
  9. Bartolo Colon, rhp

Miami Marlins

  1. Christian Yelich, cf
  2. Adeiny Hechavarria, ss
  3. Giancarlo Stanton, rf
  4. Garrett Jones, 1b
  5. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, c
  6. Casey McGehee, 3b
  7. Brian Bogusevic, lf
  8. Austin Nola, 2b
  9. Brad Hand, lhp

Flores at ss! It´d be good to see eyes-on scouting on his defense in the game recap.

  • Chuck

    Agreed!

  • MyasDaddy

Nine days away! I can’t wait.

  • xknight

What is it with this organization and injuries?? This year it’s calves and hamstrings. A while ago it was core and obliques. Did this kind of stuff happen 50 years ago when most players were hunting, fishing, and selling insurance in the off season instead of working out?

  • Bail4Nails

Not to nitpick a Spring Training lineup, but I would rather bat Flores 2nd, and Seratelli 7th. I know they’re watching Wilmer more for defense. But if he does (by some miracle) win Starting SS, I’d like to see how he hits when he’s not at the bottom of the order. Even Tejada hit well when he batted 2nd the other day. It never hurts to have Wright hitting behind you.

  • Benny

First game of the season last night had Turner, Baxter, and Ollie in it. Amazing! They all sucked though…(jk, well partially).

  • swede2

why is seratelli playing?! y not have eyj at 2nd and lagares playing CF…move flores to bat 2nd and lagares batting 8 behind TDA. I wouldnt mind that lineup at all then. Thoughts

I couldn’t agree more. They say Hank Aaron was so strong because his second job was lifting and carrying huge ice blocks for a company. All of these isolated muscle workouts are not natural to what the body does. In-season, I would have players only doing Push-ups, Pull-ups, Barefoot Running, and tons and tons of Stretching (they joke that Ichiro stretches in his sleep. How long has he been playing?)

  • 2rings

I think lagares is still feeling the aftereffects of getting hit in the upper back with a pitch 2 days ago.

  • Benny

Lagares needed a day off. I’m actually in agreement with TC for once…

  • Hey SRT! Are you ready for some baseball or what!

  • Benny

    Forgot about Putz…

  • T Boogy

Substitute Murphy for seratelli and this is our lineup against righties. I can live with it. Hopefully Lagares plays against all lefties with EY either hitting the bench or spelling Murphy here and there.

  • Gland1

I haven’t read about injuries on other teams at all.

  • Mets Fan in NC

Baseball players are softer than in the days of Aaron. No pitch limits, players played both ends of double headers, 100 strikeouts in a season by an offensive player was an embarrassment, and guys feared for their jobs if they didn’t perform. Work hard or be replaced. Now with guaranteed contracts, pitch and innings limits and trips to the DL for every type of muscle strain imaginable commonplace the game has changed….Now get those kids off my lawn :0)

  • I really wish sometimes players would refrain from saying it’s not a big deal regarding their injuries. It gives me a bad feeling like when someone in a film says I’ll be right back and that is the cue to play ominous music in the background.

  • A quick message for our readers.

I can’t believe we’re down to the last week of Spring Training. I want to thank Rob, John, David and Jacob for all their coverage for MMO.

A week from Sunday will be our last day at PSL and we’ll be focusing on the minor league side of camp as Big-League camp will have ended already.

We are unfunded and do this completely out of pocket. Our team at MMO is 45 strong now and we all love what we do.

We just put together our best team ever for Mets Post Game coverage and includes Stephanie, Andrew, Rob C., Rob P., and Tommy.

Our Game Previews will be handled by Elliot who has now been doing them for 7 years for us.

Original features and content will include more analysis this year. You’ll continue to get all the passion we are known for as well as a rich, balanced and diverse spectrum of objective opinions that we believe best reflects our fan base.

We want to welcome three new editors to our team; Kirk, Timothy and Connor who joins Mike, Jesse and David. We’re posting a lot more now, so we wanted more eyes on the editorial side to ensure the quality of our content.

I want to thank all of you, the readers, for your continued support.

It takes a great readership to build a great community and that’s what MMO has always been about – a true fan site for all Mets fans to enjoy.

Thank you all and enjoy the game.

  • When Dave sent me his photos from the game last Sunday and I saw that pic, I texted him and said what’s with the bag of balls? He said I don’t know it was just laying there in the outfield and I thought you could use it for something. I couldn’t stop laughing wondering what we could ever use that for. Then it hit me… 🙂

  • CJM

You want to thank us? We should be thanking you, Joe D and co. You guys built a great community for us. Keep it up.

  • CJM

Did anyone watch this morning’s game between the Dodgers and DBacks? Looks like Mr. Kershaw picked up right where he left off last year. The guy’s amazing at throwing a baseball. His breaking stuff seemed a bit off last night, but he still turned out a very strong performance.

  • Carlton Krinkle

  • Exactly, anything before March 31 is all needless expended energy. 🙂

  • Carlton Krinkle

Helluva swing by that Dutch fella y’all have been hyping so hard the last couple years.

  • I was feeling bad for him too. From what I’ve been told, this past week, more and more beat writers were hitting Collins with the TDA concern questions.

TC must have had a moment of clarity-those meds may have finally kicked in.

  • Hotstreak

I said all he needs to do is get it going. He will be more confident and a force to deal with both offensively and defensively.

  • CJM

He will take hacks when he gets the pitch he wants. Oakland’s policy is that pitchers don’t swing the bat at all during ST, so he’s likely carrying that over to the Mets. He’ll take a lot of strikes, but he will give it a good hack every now and then.

  • WillisReid

His skillset is better suited for a career in track and field.

  • Eyeball

    Minimum Effective Dose

  • Wonder if Anthony Seratelli beats out Omar Quintanilla for that utility spot. Collins and Quintanilla have become very close and during a chat with him he looks at Quintanilla as a future coach and manager.

But, this Spring, Collins has been spending a lot of time with Seratelli so it’s hard to speculate what he might do.

Collins spent the last two batting cage sessions with Seratelli and giving him a lot of one-on-one time before and after he got in. That tells me that Q might be heading to Las Vegas.

Here’s a shot we took yesterday:

  • Thanks for the link. I have to say though it was funny to read d’Arnaud say the following.

“If you keep your eye on the ball, you have a higher chance of succeeding than when you don’t see the ball hit the bat.”

Can’t imagine how difficult it must be to hit a ball you don’t keep your eyes on. 🙂

  • Taskmaster4450

Seratelli brings more to the plate than Q. He has speed and some power both of which Q has none. Neither seems to be a very good hitter so that is a wash.

I am not sure who is better defensively.

  • SRT

Not sure either but Seratelli is more versatile. He can play the corner OF as well, if necessary.

  • Taskmaster4450

LMAO well according to the Mets Duda can do that also.

  • SRT

    Oh please, no. lol.

  • I haven’t seen enough of Seratelli to know if he’s better defensively. I should ask Dave or John to mention something about that in a post as they’ve seen him a few times each in Fla.

But I bet the difference is negligible? If Seratelli can be more versatile and even hit 10-20 points better with speed, I’d rather have him.

  • SRT

Seratelli also has a bit more speed and is a switch hitter, for what it’s worth.

  • trevordunn

they both suck and belong in AAA. Turner is better than them both. oh yea, he didn’t hustle tho

  • Pedro’s Rooster

That’s unfair. This will make it harder for opposing pitchers to get us in a two-strike hole in each at-bat.

  • I liked Turner, but I’m not gonna pretend he was a key piece we let go of. He’s a good guy but I see too many fans making a big deal out of losing him.

The fact Turner’s starting at second base for the Dodgers is because they embarrassingly have a $240 million payroll and couldn’t field a team with 8 legit position players.

Turner is no starting second baseman as even his platoon splits suggest: .247/.314/.330 against southpaws and .268/.328/.380 against righties. And he has a lead glove.

Who do you want at 2B Daniel Murphy or Justin Turner? Ask that question to Don Mattingly.

  • LOL I guess Colon really is a strike throwing machine.

  • Colon is what Collins said. A strike throwing machine.

  • Thanks for sharing that about Oakland. I’m always learning something new from you guys in the comment threads. 🙂

  • Taskmaster4450

Vic Black, among others, could use a lesson in that.

  • Taskmaster4450

Colon isnt just a ballplayer…hes an athlete.

    Okay maybe not.

  • Absolutely, I think he’ll be a good asset for many of our pitchers.

  • Taskmaster4450

Well, Joe, I am on record saying that I wasnt fond of this signing. I hope he works out on the field as well as teaching some of the younger guys.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

But you know, NJ, I’ll bet most guys don’t watch the ball hit the bat. Look at a still shot at contact. Most guys’ eyes are a foot or two out.

  • Taskmaster4450

CY hitting….hope it carries over to the season.

  • I know. I was the opposite, I liked this move. I disagreed with they CY signing which I think you liked. Part of the great diversity of our fan base. 🙂

  • Taskmaster4450

Hopefully I am wrong about Colon and you about CY and both work out this season.

  • IGotTheWrightStuff

    WILMER!!!!

  • Wilmer Flores HOME RUN!!! Mets 5-0!!!

  • Sadly, there’s no beat writer who believes Flores will make the team.

  • CJM

The shortstop competition is heating up now. Any word on how Flores has looked in the field so far? Any opportunities?

  • Taskmaster4450

    Flores….as SS with some power.

  • Taskmaster4450

    A routine groundball…no problem.

  • HarveyKsYou

    Three run homer for Flores!

  • Bail4Nails

    GIVE THIS MAN A JOB!!!!!

  • Can Wilmer just get the start at SS this season please!!

  • Taskmaster4450

Nor are there any fans on here who believe he will either.

  • Taskmaster4450

Is it just me or is someone else seeing that the Mets bats are starting to awaken a little?

  • Mets4ever

Who needs Jhonny Peralta! Looks like Tejada wins the back up job now

  • HarveyKsYou

    It’s the gummies.

  • Flatbush0460

Really? I believe he’d be an upgrade compared to Tejada

  • I hear you. It was just funny to me his choice of words to explain maintaining longer eye contact.

  • IndianaMet

Go to any teams website. It’s part of baseball, especially with players working out all off season. Now our medical staff could def use a second look.

  • CJM

I’ve actually read in a few places that Colon’s athleticism goes overlooked. He’s definitely fat–no denying that, but they say he’s very quick off the mound and fields his position well. We’ll see.

  • On Thursday, at least two people from Mets brass felt he was no worse than Peralta, according to Joel Sherman. Overall, Mets management is split.

One scout we spoke to said his range limitation was overstated and could be overcome once he learns better positioning. And that he had soft hands and powerful arm.

    Lots of opinions out there.

  • Taskmaster4450

That may be true but nobody believes he will break camp with the major league team.

  • IGotTheWrightStuff

Flores just turned a double play.

  • IndianaMet

Cliff lee did the same thing yesterday. Who cares? This large dude is getting 20mil to win games on the mound. I would say, sadly, that if he sprints to first base at all this year, he will be DL’d.

  • $14435385

Too many cooks in that kitchen…

  • KMO82

I’ve been watching basketball, how has Flores looked?

  • $14435385

I disliked how much money they gave Young, not the signing per se. But he’s shown me something this Spring…he appears to have been humbled by the last few years and looks to be getting back to basics – driving the ball the other way, shortening up in defensive hitting situations, working counts, hustling….it looks like Carew hit all the right notes (to this day, with the possible exception of Ichiro in his prime, I’ve never seen anyone with the bat control Carew had).

I hope Young gets back to where he was when he came up – it can only be good for this team, whether they keep him or not.

  • CJM

    Better than UMass looked yesterday.

  • IGotTheWrightStuff

Made all of his plays in the field and hit a 3 run homer

  • KMO82

Nice, thanks. Maybe as he is getting more comfortable in the field his bat is coming around.

  • KMO82

Lol, well I am a UF alum and a current grad student and we just advanced to our fourth straight sweet 16!

  • $14435385

It wouldn’t surprise me if Murphy begins the year on the DL, in which case you can carry Tejada, Seratelli and Flores for a time…

  • CJM

Congrats. Big expectations as the number 1 overall. How’s your bracket looking?

  • guy2theLEFT

Just check out Colon’s pick off move, its not shabby at all. He is nimble for a big guy, such as chris farley or even John Belushi. Dosent mean hes the most athletic out there, but he has the ability just gets over shadowed by…well…urrmmm….his shadow and empty wrapers.

  • $14435385

Great job guys…thanks for keeping things fresh.

  • Taskmaster4450

Rubin reporting/speculating that Farnsworth days are numbered.

I think it a foregone conclusion that he is gone tomorrow.

  • KMO82

Sure but we aren’t the clear cut number one team, there are like ten teams at our level so we will see what happens lol. My bracket is smashed, how’s yours?

  • KMO82

Oh, and thank you for the congrats lol.

  • KMO82

    He’s gone.

  • HarveyKsYou

    Flores RBI single.

  • Bail4Nails

It seems like they are swinging earlier in the count. What a coincidence!

  • Taskmaster4450

He is an RBI machine….always was throughout his minor league career.

  • tierlifer

Colon blow base hit RBI! (Old SNL reference, not that he sucks btw)

  • HarveyKsYou

Chris Young has has a very good spring. And by the way, Colon is notorious for having bad springs.

  • CJM

It’s ugly. I have 3 brackets. 1 I filled out based on feel–that one got annihilated. I had Duke in the final. Whoops. I filled out a second one in a different group based on Nate Silver and FiveThirtyEight’s model, which is doing alright but I likely won’t win the group. A third bracket I filled out by flipping a coin for each game, and that bracket is doing better than my bracket that was based on feel. Actually it was ranked 5,295th overall on ESPN after the Mercer upset yesterday haha. The coin flip bracket has Tennessee beating UCLA in the final so I don’t think it will hold up.

  • LOL I wish I could have seen this Colon RBI single. It sounded hilarious from Rose and Lewin. 😀

  • Bail4Nails

Even the Mets announcers are calling Flores at Starting SS a “long shot”. What is wrong with the people in charge?

  • KMO82

Well, I hope it doesn’t as I think the Gators will have to go through UCLA.

  • trevordunn

let Valverde and Dice K join him on the way out

  • Colon with the single. Who was worried about his swing?

  • MetsfanInParadise

He’s got an out in his contract-tomorrow’s the day

  • MetsfanInParadise

Afraid he was gonna pull something

  • tierlifer

Wasn’t a bad idea to throw him an invite and non guaranteed roster spot. I specifically remember all the overreactions that he was “all but guaranteed a spot!!” “typical Mets smh”

  • $14435385

Honestly, I wish they had the stones to bat him 3rd between Murphy and Wright. He’d get a steady diet of fastballs and would probably be the only run producer in the lineup (unless you count Murphy) not to strike out 120+ times…

  • Tommy

It’s the Mets……..they dont’ know how to get out of there own way!

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Isn’t one Tejada too many?

  • tierlifer

Have you seen Valverde pitch yet this ST? He’s been pretty impressive. Nothing wrong with having him for the back end of the bullpen with how he has looked this ST.

  • Taskmaster4450

That will be Colon’s last hit until August.

Too bad he wasted it in an ST game.

  • Taskmaster4450

    Maybe he means Miguel Tejada.

Terry does like the older guys and Alderson isnt scared of a guy with a PED past.

  • MetsfanInParadise

I knew Howie was going to mention Rick Reuschel. David Wells didn’t have your prototype baseball physique either

  • everybodysbuddy

I’m always big on defense over offense for the SS position, however I love this guy Flores. And it’s not only because he might hit more than other SS options, but it’s when he does. I noticed last year when he had few hits, but a lot of RBI’s. He is a guy who rises to the occasion. And that is something that I don’t think the cyber stats people can measure. We’ve had our fill of sluggers who hit when the game is beyond reach. You know, the Bonilla types. A true RBI guy like a shark who smells blood. That’s what I see from Flores. And it’s something pretty rare I think.

  • He won’t run hard enough for that.

  • CJM

I think we may see a Florida/Louisville final which could be a hell of a game because Donovan comes from the Pitino coaching tree.

  • $14435385

Valverde has thrown the ball well and is a pretty good insurance policy if Parnell and/or Black crap the bed. Dice K should have a short leash, but more than anything he’s a stop gap to save the team a year of eligibility for Montero and Syndergaard, so even he serves a purpose.

  • Taskmaster4450

    Yeah good point.

So many on here forget the players the Mets were quick to rid themselves of.

Farnsworth was a no risk signing….the odds were in their favor. He pitched well, they benefited. He sucked…you release him.

  • Taskmaster4450

Also keeps the young guys out of that weather in April.

With it being so cold, let them pitch in the warmth of Vegas for a while.

  • KMO82

From your lips to gods ears my friend but most have Michigan State beating Florida.

  • Taskmaster4450

A guy as Hernandez says “bears down to get the ribeye steaks”.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Just joined the game threads recently. Don’t see Alex (sound of applause)-he’s not really into amicable discourse, is he?

  • tierlifer

Don’t count out the Cuse if Cooney plays the rest of the tourney like he did Thursday afternoon!

  • Taskmaster4450

Wright did pop out to first with a man on 3rd with less than two outs so he would have had some fodder to spew on here.

  • MikePiazza3186

Flores should get a chance at least tejada is a waste and the front office should know it!

  • Taskmaster4450

Guess we are starting to get our answer about Seratelli’s defense.

  • KMO82

Who does that guy think he is? “He’s Keith Hernandez”.

  • MetsfanInParadise

And it’s his fault no one drove him in after his 1st inning double, of course. Not clutch, hitting a double ahead of an out. Oops, I forgot, he got himself thrown out-sloppy!

  • KMO82

Oh, I haven’t. Just commenting on the Louisville/Florida scenario. Syracuse will be tough.

  • tierlifer

Any ideas who the long man will be? Lannan? Torres should absolutely stay in the ‘pen. He may be a diamond on the rough with that role rather than long man.

  • tierlifer

They are a completely different squad when and only when Cooney is hitting beyond the arc. They looked like a team on a mission Thursday. Can’t wait for game tonight.

  • Taskmaster4450

Most likely both will be in the BP. Lannon will be the long man with spot starting allowing Torres to be moved a bit deeper into the pen since he is experienced.

  • Oh, Trevor doesn’t actually watch games or even follow baseball. He’s a bot, after all, and not programmed for learning or even rudimentary artificial intelligence. The only thing he’s coded for is repetitive complaints on the most ridiculous Mets related items. He was written by Phillies fans. You can’t expect too much

  • tierlifer

Thanks for heads up….I’m still relatively a newbie on here and learning on the fly haha

  • everybodysbuddy

and who would recognize that more than Mr. Rib eye himself?

  • MetsfanInParadise

Torres is a great long man and Lannan is no LOOGY. There’s really no place for him. Let a kid get his feet wet.

  • $14435385

Good point. Bottom line is all Dice K really has to do is preserve the bullpen in his starts for him to be worth the contract he’d earn, because his presence on the roster has benefits beyond the games he pitches. But if he goes out and throws 3 innings a start, he’s worthless.

  • Torres will reprise his role which he did very well in 2013.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Parnell threw 94 yesterday. A good sign

  • Taskmaster4450

    What kid?

Edgin was awful and Leathersich still has a problem hitting the strike zone.

Without Lannon, Rice is the only lefty in the Mets BP…not a good idea.

  • MetsfanInParadise

There’s gotta be SOMEONE, even a starter-to-be, who would benefit from getting some ML experience in the pen without doing us too much harm. Use the same mentality you’d apply to a Rule 5 pick

  • davidizwright

Colon’s RBI single. here you go guys: http://t.co/k9cNVKnaLd

  • $14435385

    Sorry, multitasking. I meant Flores.

  • Taskmaster4450

The Mets farm is bare when it comes to LH starters. Matz is the best and he was only in low A ball last season and going to St Lucie to start most likely.

    It is a bare situation.

  • MetsfanInParadise

Nice to see us beating up on the Marlins for a change. Nothing more irritating to a Mets fan in S Fla than seeing the awful 100-game-losing Fish having our number, day after day, spring training or regular season. That’s one thing that’s GOTTA change this year.

  • tierlifer

What a great ST for CY. Here’s hoping it carries over to the regular season. I swear some people are secretly rooting for him to fail just so they can throw Sandy under the bus even more.

  • MetsfanInParadise

    Ike, Ike baby!

  • tierlifer

    Ike!

  • Wow, for a spring training game, this game has been pretty damn good! Mets Home Run Derby!

  • Taskmaster4450

Yes I fell that you are correct. Some are so anxious for the mets to fail so they can trash Alderson.

  • davidizwright

Of course we can’t watch it :/

  • SRT

    He’s fixed!

  • MetsfanInParadise

If Colon gets off to a decent start he’ll become a cult hero and every AB at Citi will be an event.

  • MetsfanInParadise

That’s because the cheapo Fish don’t televise their ST games

  • MetsfanInParadise

Fixed like a dog? Poor guy

  • MetsfanInParadise

Like the Bill Gallo artwork on the button

  • $14435385

Hilarious. It looks like an at bat in a Dominican softball game in Washington Heights.

  • metsfan79

That would be incredible, imagine they all work out ike c.young now flores at short and mejia our 5 starter we are looking like something

  • Tommy

Please tell me Granderson is OK!

  • Better to be vindicated on an anonymous message board than being wrong and seeing the team you claim to love do well

  • $14435385

As I said earlier, it looks like an at bat in a Dominican softball game in Washington Heights…he will be entertaining to watch this year, without a doubt…

  • Taskmaster4450

Yes it was a breaking ball that he was hit with.

It is late game replacements. Both Kirk and MDD went in for Grandy/CY.

  • Not to speak too soon but this is how Ike was in the rather recent past…

  • Tommy

    Thank GOD!

  • MetsfanInParadise

Most recent years EVERYTHING has gone wrong for us, even Harvey. If half those things broke right I’d be happy. If everything went our way we’d be like the ’05 White Sox, ’07 Rockies, ’10 Giants-a bolt from the blue. Don’t; forget about Familia

  • Bail4Nails

You are absolutely right. Murphy and Flores are 2 of the very few guys on the Mets who have a much higher Average with Runners in Scoring Position than their Regular Average. If that doesn’t prove clutch, I don’t know what does.
Now imagine we had BOTH of these guys in the lineup at the same time (SS and 2B). Ribbies Galore!!!!

  • BarnRat

    Still, better than the alternative

  • davidizwright

Lmao. Colon showing some hustle !!! http://t.co/EFs5bszgLq

  • $14435385

Anthony DiComo with a hilarious tweet: “Man, love this guy. Bartolo Colon just tried his hardest not to beat out an infield single, and succeeded.”

  • metsfan79

    That’s a nice lineup
    cyoung
    Murph
    Wright
    grandy
    Flores
    Ike
    lagars
    Tda

    That’s not the worst

  • I mean that Ike was recently a very dangerous hitter.

  • Andrew Herbst

I’m so happy that Flores is making the most of his opportunity at ss.

  • metsfan79

    Gee
    Neise

    Colon
    Wheeler
    Mejia
Id be content with what ever they do as long as its a yOoouth movement.

  • BarnRat

Thought you meant looking OK in ST

  • dab394

I really hope the Mets seriously consider taking Flores north as the backup middle infielder over Quintanilla. I could understand the hesitation of starting Flores because of the general agreement among scouts and the Mets front office that he cannot play the position and his lack of exposure at short during Spring Training, but his bat would be huge off the bench. Plus, competition breeds success and it could only push Tejada if Flores is right there behind him taking reps at short. Flores could get starts at second when the Mets face a tough lefty. Plus, because Murphy is still banged up, it would be good to have a viable option behind him to give him some off days in April so he can get his bearings.

The only compelling reason I can think of for leaving Flores off the Opening Day roster would be that he is going to be the EVERY DAY shortstop at Vegas with the expectation that he will replace Tejada if Tejada struggles. But even with that, I think he can help the team from the get-go and I would like to see him come north with the team.

  • $14435385

No one will talk about it because of the hilarity of his day at the plate…but Colon’s outing was pretty impressive – talk about pounding the zone…he might be the smartest pitcher the Mets have had since Pedro, and I include Santana in that comparison…

  • MetsfanInParadise

60 strikes and 19 balls going into the 7th

  • Hehe he’s looked pretty darn good in limited opportunities

  • donobrien

How about the ground rule double that got Colon to third base. If the ball had stayed in play Colon would have chugged into second. Maybe. LOL.

  • Jgreen

Suddenly our bats are catching up the mound. So glad Flores delivers hype as expected finally.

  • Just_Da_damaja

    esp a former oakland player.

  • “big dong”

  • MetsfanInParadise

Metsblog is too stupid to even be a joke

  • $14435385

    Nice job, Joe! 😉

  • A guy from Amazing Avenue re-tweets this pretty consistently through the season when Ike is playing. It’s the little things in life that bring me joy.

  • R04

    More baseball, please.

  • Mike Lloyd

“Seriously consider taking Flores north as the backup middle infielder”…I want to see him starting at SS. But it’s obviously not going to happen. Smh…

Sorry Joe that I went there. I’ll change it up.

  • Oh wait… This is two years old? LOL I thought he posted before the HR he hit today and was prophetic…

  • No Steve has literally been RT’ing this for over a year.

  • Metfan9876

Does anyone have any videos of Ike batting recently?

  • MetsfanInParadise

    What’s the f’ing point?

  • R04

    Reported.

  • Because it’s funny to cackle like school children at the word Dong.

  • You two make me feel sorry for him.

Off topic, but this has been a fun game to listen too. Rose and Lewin really do a nice job together.

  • Mike Lloyd

Did Jacob have to “climb the ladder” to catch it. Lol

  • If you’re wondering if he still drops his hands, the answer is yes. But his bat movement and noisy swing has been quieted down and it’s very noticeable. Good signs.

  • I didn’t report you when you went there, don’t be a baby you brought it to that level.,

  • Bail4Nails

I was really against the CY signing this offseason, just from looking at his numbers. I have to say, actually watching him play baseball, I’m becoming a fan. That being said, if Lagares gets sent down, I think I have to hate him. Best-case scenario for the Mets AND us Blog-haters?
CY in LF, Lagares in CF, Grandy in RF, EY the speedy super-sub.

    Another Happy Recap

  • Here’s the difference you baby I aint gonna report ya.

  • $14435385

I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much he’s limited the movement in getting the bat into the hitting zone. But most of the balls he’s hit have been fastballs by AAA-AAAA pitchers…I’m not convinced he can hit quality breaking stuff – especially from late-inning lefties – with any kind of consistency. Time will tell. I’d still deal him if you can get anything of value in return…

  • R04

Neither did I, but now I know it bothers you.

  • Metfan9876

Good to hear. I’d like to see it for myself and maybe he can deliver us a decent season if he stays on the team long enough.

  • Rocky Thompson

CY worked with Rod Carew during the off season. Maybe some of it resonated with him. He seems to be hitting to all fields.

  • No it doesn’t, I just think I went to far and I shouldn’t put Joe in that position. BUT I am really glad you stopped by so you can sit through that wonderful GIF. #LGM

  • R04

  • Gland1

Sorry, I should have used the sarcasm font. I know our medical staff has a bad rep among fans, but I think a lot if that comes from folks who dont seem to realize that injuries are common and happen to all teams, especially at this time of year. My guess is that a lot of people only pay attention to thr Mets and not baseball in general so it seems like it is only happening to us.

Why is Michael tweeting about Ike’s big dong?

A horses ass on both sides!!

  • Mets Fan in NC

Gutty 🙂 I get it. In related news MMO staff members were almost trampled when they inadvertently got between Colon and the after game buffet

Ha. My bad. I concur 100pct!!
