Matt Harvey Gets Trolled By A Yankee Fan

harvey russia

Matt Harvey took to Twitter this morning and did some sparring with a Yankee fan who trolled him and got him to bite.

While he was better off avoiding this nut job entirely, Harvey did manage to get off one good jab at the punk…

LOL…

Harvey is vacationing all over the world this offseason with his super-model girlfriend Anne V. This morning he was tweeting from Thailand and simply sharing that with his followers. Nothing wrong with that and that’s what social sites like Twitter are for.

But our injured ace needs to handle criticism better than he’s shown so far. This is the third or fourth time that he’s gotten very defensive and while he’s had nothing but a run of success on the mound as a Met, how will he react if he hits a bad stretch like all pitchers do?

    I love this kid’s confidence.

He totally looks like he would’ve fit in the 86 clubhouse

and give me 4 more of that than the country bumpkin Mike Pelfrey’s and Duda’s who shrivel every time they hear a boo

  • Biggle Boy

Joe, I think Matt’s responses were fine. And all I would add is that anyone who can land a gorgeous model as his girlfriend – is a winner!

  • Agee’s Catch

“it” is something few people have…..

  • “But our injured ace needs to handle criticism better than he’s shown so far.”

    This.

I don’t know if ironic is the right word but he was being trolled by a Yankee fan using some comments eerily similar to those said by Mets fans at times when talking about their own guys as well.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

Imbeciles like this guy Nick are fifty cents a dozen. Matt reacted without thinking, then tried to chill down. He’ll learn not to waste time and thumb-power on the geeks.

  • Justin Anthony

As long as he doesn’t enter into any Twitter wars with the Iron Sheik, he’ll be OK

  • Bail4Nails

I love it. I miss the days when the Mets had cajones (see ’86). I remember the second I knew the Mets were going to lose to the Yankees in the World Series. Clemens throws a bat at Piazza and THE GUY DOES NOTHING! No way the Mets were gonna win after that. It’s nice to be a classy guy outside the lines. But once in a while, you gotta grow a pair! Harvey is exactly what this team needs. I don’t want to curse, so I’ll use the word swagger. But, you know what I mean. That’s how you survive in New York. Keep it up Matty, you rock.

  • skyking26

Way to go Matt, The yankee trolls are jealous because they don’t have that young talent being they pi$$ed all away on too many free agents including lying cheaters they like to rid themselves of.

  • NewYorkMammoths

Matt is a genius on the pitching mound. That’s all I care about.

  • RyanF55

Its a rite of passage. An ignorant Yankees fan harasses a Mets star. A true sign you’ve made it. Nothing threatens a Yankee fam more than a Met who fans adore.

  • dealingwithidiots

Have any of you read the tweets, a “so called” Mets fan Pomes sends to our OWN players? Especially Wheeler, Eric Young etc….ever read the awful things he says to and about Beltran? Just another moron with internet muscles.

  • Let me put it another way… If he was going to spend 45 minutes on Twitter, wouldn’t it have been better had he chatted with Mets fans who love him rather getting defensive with a Yankee fan? Today’s headline would have read, “Harvey Has Fun With Met Fans On Twitter” instead.

  • Hotstreak

That was SA’s son preparing Harvey for what he can expect from negotiations with Scott Boras over his big contract like 300M 10 years he will ask for.

    Lighten up ha ha Harvey.

  • Hey RR, you should have that comment bronzed. 🙂

    First World problems. 🙂

  • dblaze347

Matt is only 24 years old…let’s relax here. I don’t care what he does in his free time as long as he does his rehab properly and, when he comes back on the mound, dominates.

  • Matt Mosher

    Exactly….jeeeze. He’s still a kid.

  • 2aSupport

  • oleosmirf

The fact that you care about what he does on twitter is even sadder….

  • Alex68 (Ch)

I don’t have it, but it’s so EASY to either BLOCK someone or just ignore them… twitter is a loaded gun ready to be fired

  • TexasGusCC

Obviously the same “chip on the shoulder” approach that Harvey carries in his personal life, he brings to the mound, which is that he will never let anyone get the better of him. Take the good with the bad.

  • Anthony Schifano

Matt Harvey needs to stop and just focus on being a pitcher for the New York Mets. You shut people up about your lifestyle by going out and winning baseball games. I let Yankee fans get to me all the time and I hate them all, but I am a fan. Matt Harvey is a professional baseball player who needs to focus on being just that, a professional.

  • Erin_II

” Whoa! You`re talkin to my guy all wrong. Do it again and I`ll stab you in the face with a soldering iron.”

  • SpinalRemains

Beautiful! Nothing wrong at all with that response. It was a jab at the guy’s weak spot.

So much for Yankee class. I don’t know what’s worse. Tweeting what you’re doing while on vacation, or following Matt Harvey on Twitter if you’re a Yankees fan.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

This was NOT defensive it was a NICE JAB!!!

There was NO venom or anything malicious there to make it come off as Defensive.

And its a plus that it was hurled at a Yankee fan…

It was a CALM CONFIDENCE and whatever Harvey can do to grow a hatred for the Yankees and their fans is a plus….since they will be trying to pry him from us if he ever becomes a free agent lol…

Good job by Harvey here hahahahaha

    #LOLYankees

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    LOL

  • BehindTheBag

I loved Matt Harvey before, but this makes me love him more.

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

    EXACTLY!!!

I didnt like the Dan Patrick interview he did nor the Half Nude Magazine….but there was NOTHING WRONG with this…

He gave a Yankee fan a light hearted tap….and he did it in a classy way he wasnt vile.

If David Wright wouldve said this, fans would react different…and say crap like the CAPTAIN shows fight or lightheartedly ribs Yankee fans.

It wouldve been chuckles and giggles…

  • CyYout

I don’t think Harvey responding directly to a fan is unprofessional. And I like that he doesn’t back down from fights, be it giant Jon Rauch in the locker room or some trolling Yankee fan on the internet. The Mets can use someone like that after all that’s happened since ’06, and a little swag from our Ace is more than welcome. I only wish the ’86 Mets had twitter, now THAT would be entertaining.

  • 2aSupport

Exactly. And he judges the size of Harvey’s brain?

  • PA Met Fan

Yankees fans are getting a bit nervous now that they see which team has a brighter future in New York.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

No issue with what Harvey is doing – going on vacation, Knicks games, etc – but his inability to ignore this crap is worrisome. If he can’t ignore what idiots like Joe B. and some guy from Bablyon, why should I think he can handle something like a Game 7 (assuming he ever gets the chance to pitch in one)?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Really? The need to respond to one random troll is “perfect”? No. Saying nothing is perfect. Focus on rehab.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

There’s a difference between not backing down and letting the tiniest, most insignificant thing get under your skin in such a public way.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

And, if we want to be honest here, Harvey has never beaten the Yankees.

  • Andrew Herbst

I liked Harvey’s response. I thought it was great. This Nick from Babalon guy always calls up the FAN and disses the Mets.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

I can’t tell if that’s a serious response. If it is, then I would say I’d rather Harvey focus on his next pitch and not what Nick in Babylon might tweet at him if he doesn’t win that day.

  • somedude718

I think he did fine. A guy as competitive as Harvey is going to have that little itch to get one over. I think it comes with the territory.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Then why don’t we see this from any other players? Or is Harvey more competitive that Derek Jeter or Justin Verlander?

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

You’re making it about the troll. Another way to look at it is if Harvey is really pissed at him for getting mad at his lifestyle maybe he should get a grip and focus on something more important, like rehab.

  • CyYout

I’ll admit that’s a good point. I guess I’m just tired of the Mets being everyone’s doormat and it’s nice to see one of our best players stand up.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Fine. But let your performance on the field change that. Feeding the trolls is not winning any World Series championships.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Mets fans are clinging to the only bright spot on the team, Matt Harvey. Not surprised we’re super defensive of any criticism. And I say “we” because I’m a Mets fan too.

But how is this some “perfect response”? It’s like walking down the street and responding to the homeless person yelling about aliens in his brain.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

I’m not talking about how he spends his time. I’m talking about his inability to ignore the trolls.

Show me Derek Jeter or Justin Verlander publicly responding to criticisms.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Ok. Well I can see you’re the type to let the tiniest thing get under your skin.

Matt Harvey is a huge star with a super model girlfriend, yet he feels the need to stop and argue to the homeless guy screaming about the end of the world.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

You’re missing the point. I hope you learn to ignore the critics because it’ll be a tough life otherwise.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

19 career starts? Harvey hasn’t “made” anything.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Yeah. Matt can tell people that while he’s watching the Yankees from the couch in October.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Maybe Harvey could engage with the fans tweeting encouragement and how much they love him instead of the random trolls.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

That is, if they even get there.

  • Erin_II

    Like last year?

  • somedude718

I’m sure they want to respond as Harvey did, but show more restraint: not because it’s right, but because it’s not worth your time of day. I don’t see a problem with how he handled it, other than the fact that he’s going to invite every troll with a computer/tablet/smartphone and a twitter account to badger him, now. But that’s a lesson learned for him.

The article makes it seem like he’s got some kind of glaring character flaw that will turn him into a puddle of mush when things are going bad, and people get on him. I just don’t see it.

  • Tom

After a few more years of dominance he’ll know the value of playing it cool. Our young ace is just that, Young.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

You’re commenting on how often I comment? And I need to let things go.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Personally, I think guys like Jeter and Verlander would rather let their on the field performances speak for them.

I’d rather Harvey worry about the next batter than what the trolls will say.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Haha. Keep acting like one season negates all the others.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Better chance than the Mets and a 100% percent better chance than Harvey, who won’t even pitch.

  • dealingwithidiots

True enough, but what does that say about your numerous responses on the subject? Couldn’t get your point across the first 12 times? Not much different.

  • Hitmanᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ✔

    “Better chance than the Mets”

    Stranger things have happened.

  • Saratoga_Jon

    Nice…Torrence for me…by where I work.

And to keep it baseball related, it’s easy to forget Harvey’s 24 and is going to do 24 year old things from time to time. With that being said, he needs to mind himself a bit better or these attacks will become 100 fold, especially at the first sign of a struggle.

  • bobblehead

Hey, just dropped your mom off. She said your grilled cheese and tomato soup will be ready in ten if you want to come out of the basement.

  • Bail4Nails

Anyone else see the irony in this thread?

  • 2aSupport

Right. Because some derogatory troll on a blog has made it much further in life than an MLB All-Star pitcher.

  • ReturnOfSonOfBromancer

Yet another example of the sparkling wit of Matt Cerrone’s new favorite dish. Witness the fitness.

  • WillisReid

Never feed trolls, but I can’t see how this is really a big deal. I thought the Dan Patrick interview was way worse, since he was representing the Mets.

Just another reason I’m not a fan of twitter.

  • ThatGuyWhoLeavesComments

Not really the point, now is it? And if anything, you’re only giving credence to my point that Harvey needs to learnt to ignore the trolls.

  • TexasGusCC

Boy, are you a LOSER! Still in Junior High?

  • IndianaMet

Matt needs to shut up and take the high road. Love the pitcher. Cringe at the person.

Never get into an argument with someone who buys ink by the barrel. Or to stay with the times… Never get into an argument with an anonymous person on a social media outlet. You can’t win.

Since his botched radio interview this summer, I don’t think Harvey has done anything wrong, and I have no problem with him defending himself on twitter or any other forum. I’m glad he gave it back to the Yankee fan, who seems to be jealous that Harvey isn’t a Yankee, and that he can’t date and travel all over the world with a supermodel. Boo-hoo.

  • Keith’s stache

Exactly what I was wondering. Why is a Yankees fan following Matt?

  • Brian Reilly

Well you see Yankee fans need something to talk about after spending $256 million last year and not making the playoffs. lol And now the A ROID thing has them baffled again, I cant wait to see when A rod drops the names of other Yankees who were ROIDING. And I bet it was a lot of them.
