Infuriated Valdespin Bolts DWL Team After Manager Pinch-Hit For Him

jordany valdespin

Miami Marlins infielder Jordany Valdespin has left his team in the Dominican Winter League after becoming infuriated when his manager pinch-hit for him in a playoff game this past weekend. The news was reported by ESPN Deportes’ Enrique Rojas.

Valdespin hit only .167/.316/.612 in 108 regular season at bats for the Tigres del Licey with three home runs and was struggling offensively.

I’m shocked (not really) that Valdespin did this during the Caribbean Post Season in which the games are broadcast nationally in the United States and throughout most of the participating Latin-American countries.

On August 5, while still with the Mets, Valdespin was suspended for 50 games for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal.

The Mets released him after the season and we was signed by the Marlins on December 23 to a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training. I’m sure this stunt won’t sit well with the Marlins.

Joe D, he slammed his helmet and bat, it was more a dugout tantrum… then he told the team he wasn’t playing anymore…

  • Biggle Boy

Basketball has JR Smith. Baseball has Spin.

  • It’s unreal. He was suspended by MLB and then let go by the Mets, even though the Marlins signed him he was not giving an invite to Spring Training and then he is not hitting well in Winter Ball and has a temper tantrum and leaves team. At what point will he sit there and say I need to get my house in order if I want any shot at the majors again? I really just don’t get it other than he is just screwed up in the head.

  • El_Verdadero_Presidente

A lot of kids from the DR get bent beyond straightening, growing up. Not many get as far as Valdy without being intercepted. I used to think all he needed was a veteran, Spanish-speaking mentor. His issues are deeper than that.

  • RyanF55

They should make it so you can see who voted down, so they can be properly verbally assaulted as having the sense of humor of a rock.

  • Benny

    No other explanation for it!

  • Charley’s Twin

Wow, I guess everyone who criticized him must be some kind of raycist demagogue, huh?

  • gameball

Yep. Clearly TC’s stubborn refusal to plug JV1 in as his everyday OFer after that first pinch hit HR was just one more symptom of Met management’s rampant favoritism of anglo veterans over latino youth.

  • Biggle Boy

Not to continue my analogy to JR Smith (which was an exaggerated comparison, I admit) but it’s interesting that Woodson’s comment about JR was that he also needs to “grow up”.

  • Schnitzer’s Marble Rye

Ya, maybe. Still beats Livefyre comments format though.

  • Taskmaster4450

Too bad. He cant get out of his own way.

I defended the guy last season believing that is talent could help the Mets. While I dont feel Collins handled the situation correctly, Valdy obviously has a way of isolating himself. After reading that people all throughout the minors tried to reach out to him I realized he was a lost cause.

  • Charley’s Twin

    UMMMM, Matt Harvey?

  • RyanF55

He has talent, he doesn’t have a brain. I can’t believe he’d behave that way after everything that’s happened in NY. Some guys just don’t get it I guess.

  • metsman

Next time Valdy goes to biogenesis he should see if they offer adderall.

  • Nolrog

  • Harvey33

Awh but remember he has all this “talent”. Lol. Just because you hit an occasional home run or have some speed doesn’t mean you have this great potential; which is what most Met reporters and TV analysis claimed.

  • Sylow59

Well, that’s much more adult-like behavior. If he hasn’t learned after all that happened last year he never will.

  • bobblehead

  • Harvey33

People over hyped him beyond belief. He was never a top prospect or a top 10 for us, if I recall correctly. There’s a reason.

  • Miami Marlins….yup, don’t care; for all his maybe maybe not potential, he’s squarely not ours anymore. Now if news was that the Miami Marlins traded Stanton, Fernandez, and Yelich to the Mets…then I’d be pretty excited. 🙂

  • EzRider

Stay Classy Douchiego. Good riddance to him.

  • BCleveland3381

But I thought Sandy and Terry were just racist? Some people on here(and other sites) were truly ridiculous by supporting Valdy. After all the
crap that went down on this team not one guy on the team ever had his

Interesting idea. Despite this thread I started, I generally like the downvoting option. Although one could still express disagreement or disapproval with a comment by replying with cogent points of their own — which are clearly missing from this thread I’d have to say.

  • Taskmaster4450

Why are you concerned about the up or down votes anyway?

    Does it really matter?

  • I vote to keep the down votes. It’s a great way to not agree with horrible comments without creating a flame war.

To me they’re MB people… there’s a huge difference with MMO people and them… sorry Joe

  • Schnitzer’s Marble Rye

I don’t think verbal assaults are necessary, but yeah apparently sarcasm can be somewhat easily lost here.

  • B-Met Fan

Nothing would surprise me with Spin. I couldn’t believe the support this guy got from many Met fans this summer when he was causing havoc in the Met clubhouse. The real mistake management made was keeping Spin and his attitude around for so long. This pattern of behavior has followed him everywhere he’s gone in professional baseball. That made the finger pointing at Terry Collins for his supposed treatment of Spin more than lame. It’s really a shame, because the bottom line is the guy has some ability. But, no one can help a guy that blames his issues on others and refuses to consider help.

  • Frank Francisco

What the heck kind of numbers are .167/.316/.612 lmaoo

He either walks or hits home runs, wtf lol

  • metsman

That wasn’t lost on me, which is why I acknowledged the comment was dumb. I’ve always been defensive of Valdespin because I think he has legitimate problems controlling his behavoir, its wrong of me to make light of that.

  • Frank Francisco

If Ike Davis hit .167/.316/.612 for the Mets would you be happy or mad??

    I’d be happy.

  • Taskmaster4450

I cant disagree with you Alex…there does appear to be a difference.

Personally, I could care less about the up or down votes. And yes I also had a few dances with them. I never was on MB but it seems like a lot of group think to me.

  • Joey D.

    Hi Joe D.,
I wonder if this incident was caused by roid-rage.
Sad to see any young person going downhill irrespective of the unusual gift of his talent. Despite that outside bravado there is something quite painful eating away at him inside.

JV needs to sign with the Rockies. Colorado has what’s needed to chill him out a bit.

  • BCleveland3381

Just ignore the downvotes. Why do they matter to you?

  • BCleveland3381

Downvotes are meant for ignorant comments, personal attacks, and other things of that nature. Some people use them for anyone with a different opinion than their own. I couldn’t care less. I never understood why people get angry when they get down votes.

  • BCleveland3381

26 years old. I think a lot of people think he’s still a young, up and coming player. He isn’t. I can’t imagine another team is going to waste their time on him once the Marlins cut him.

  • It must just be prejudice against him because he’s a Dominican player.
Oh wait, his Dominican Manager did this?
That can’t be right. That would mean that JV1 might just be a no-talent mental patient to sensible people all over the world.

  • Justin Anthony

I concur with my fellow bloggers about keeping the down-vote option. It’s a good way for us to express our displeasure with an ignorant comment. Many of us got frustrated with MetsBlog because the new commenting system took that option away from us

That’s what bothers me. This guy should’ve had red flags pasted up and down his butt from the day he signed. Help him, or cut him. Apparently they ignored him – gee, can’t believe I’m talking about the Mets – and now we have the predictable outcome.

  • DrDooby

Why did I have the feeling I’d see a thread on this topic here when I read about the Valdespin news elsewhere…;-)
This is meant in a complementary way: Well done creating some website traffic, Joe 🙂

As for JV1, I’m starting to warm up to him. A true MMO favorite and reply generator. I’d guess that if there were a “reply” counter for singular players that have (or had) some relation to the Mets, JV1 ranks Top 3 here. Not sure Wright and Harvey have generated more. Now that would be a fun counting stat….

  • Pedro’s Rooster

Thank you, Teddy, for the thoughtful response.

I get the feeling that Alex is acting out because the dialogue here is changing, and the veterans are no longer the center of attention.

It sounds like pre-Disqus, the commentary was getting extremely negative here. With the influx of new commenters, you’re seeing a broad mix of perspectives.

But rather than embrace these new perspectives, he’d prefer to pick fights and get attention by creating imaginary tribes inside a blog comments section. It’s like watching a little kid lash out because Mommy and Daddy had a new baby.

To me, labeling everyone from Metsblog as whiners, kool-aid drinkers, etc., and being a general d!ck to them isn’t being a skeptic. It’s just being a d!ck.

what Bosch had to say about PED’s was pretty on point.

what do u call fair when everyone in the system is on it.

esp, If the drug test is so easy to get around.

most folks arent using PED’s to get stronger, they are using it to not break down and recover quicker.

a PED is not going to help you read a fly ball off a broken bat in Wrigley Field.

nor will it help u hit a Adam Wainwright Curveball..

    if u cant hit, u cant hit…

what a PED will do is help you play a double-header in 97 degree heat in Tampa Bay…

so when Bosch said, how is it fair to even single out A-Rod when the pitcher may be on it, the CF fielding his 2B could be on it, the runner sliding into 3B could be on it…

and Bosch did say…he’s been doing this for MLB athletes for over 10 years…

the survey testing started in 2003
the mandatory testing started in 2005..
    A-Rod approached Bosch in 2010…
A-Rod may very well was playing without PED usage from 2004-2009…( and during the Katie Couric interview in 2007 )

in 2007, when MLB leaked out that he was one of the folks who FAILED their test in 2003, he was livid..

now he knows the league has a bug up their butt about him…and he was able to get away with PED’s for 3 straight seasons, having been tested at least 17 times…

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/olympics/2010/writers/david_epstein/02/23/hgh.testing/

“WITHOUT blood testing, not only is HGH detection essentially IMPOSSIBLE, but NONE of the substances that ENHANCE ENDURANCE can be detected. For example, certain types of blood transfusions and synthetic hemoglobin — which allows blood to carry more oxygen — can only be detected with blood tests. The bottom line is that if you aren’t testing blood, then you aren’t really trying when it comes to HGH and endurance-enhancing substances.”

That argument took center stage a little more than two years ago when MLB commissioner Bud Selig told the Congressional Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that he would support testing for HGH in baseball “when a valid, commercially available and practical test for HGH becomes reality, regardless of whether the test is based on blood or urine.”

Why would you even consider urine when its IMPOSSIBLE to do it without blood.

What A-Rod’s suit may unveil is that Selig was informed that his test was BS to begin with.

He has NO proof that A-Rod was doping other than records which COULD BE DOCTORED.

What A-rod is exposing is Selig’s very obvious BS.

He KNEW he COULD”VE implemented blood testing ( aka the ONLY real way to test ) if he wanted to, but WILLINGLY CHOSE NOT TO.

that makes him complicit and a hypocrite.

if its that easy and well known to bypass the tests…how many others are doing it ?

  • Lotus1209

Nah definitely not. You are formally known as R05 no?

Okay so that’s one. Where are all the others that Jimmy claims we have. Matt Harvey was a nice reward for losing 92 games in 09. Had the team not lost their entire starting lineup to injury, they win 84-86 games and never get a chance to draft Harvey. Pretty telling when you ask for the others, meaning plural, you get one name.

  • joeyd1966

Nooooooo, keep the down votes. In a way it keeps the flame wars to minimum. Instead of a long winded back and forth you can just save everybody else the drama and just down vote the posts you disagree with and still have the option to debate it. Especially with those who never debate in good faith and just insult you when they have nothing else to counter with.

What’s so frustrating sometimes is these comments ultimately end up being about other readers and other readers comments, rather than the post that initiated it in the first place. Agreed. The intelligence level here is far superior than on MB. Sometimes to my disliking, as a matter of fact. Not enough people to troll.
