With Wilmer Flores Now A Met, Is Justin Turner Out?

An article by posted on August 5, 2013

justin turnerNow that Wilmer Flores has finally been promoted to the Mets, the big question now becomes who’s the odd man out?

Gun to my head, I’d have to say Justin Turner is the man on the bubble…

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know he’s gritty, he’s fun to watch, he’s got red hair, and sometimes he really comes through in the clutch. I get all that. But think about it for a minute, it’s not like the Mets have a smorgasbord of options here…

Obviously, Daniel Murphy, Omar Quintanilla and Ike Davis are safe… That leaves just Josh Satin (.295/.417/.432/.849) or Justin Turner (.265/.315/.325/.640). Who would you keep out of those two?

Plus with Turner gone, the Mets still have Eric Young Jr. to spell Murphy at second base when needed.

In the outfield, you could slash Andrew Brown or Mike Baxter and just go with four outfielders, but that just delays the decision until Lucas Duda is activated from the DL next week.

Sorry, Justin… We may see you again in September, but I think you’re going to Vegas. If not this week, certainly when Bobby Parnell comes back from the DL.
