Shawn Teufel Promoted To St. Lucie As Tim Byrdak Moves Onto Vegas

An article by posted on August 5, 2013

shawn-teufelShawn Teufel, the son of Mets third base coach  Tim Teufel, is reported via Twitter that he has been promoted from the Brooklyn Cyclones to the St. Lucie Mets in High-A.

It will be his fourth different Mets affiliate he’s played for this season.

According to Matt Musico of MetsMinors.net, Teufel has split 30 appearances and 36 innings between Binghamton, Savannah and Cony Island and has a combined 3.25 ERA this season.

The Mets signed the younger Teufel during Spring Training. The lefthander was originally drafted in the 25th round by the Detroit Tigers out of Liberty University in 2010.

One of his career highlights came in 2011, when he was borrowed from Class A to pitch for Triple-A Toledo in a spot start against his father’s Buffalo club. Teufel tossed six scoreless innings and earned the win that day.

The move was necessitated following the promotion of Tim Byrdak to Triple-A Las Vegas. Byrdak, who is rehabbing from a torn capsule in his left shoulder, had a combined 2.03 ERA in 15 rehab games with the GCL Mets and Single-A St. Lucie prior to his promotion.
