Young produced his first homer as a Met. It was the first walk-off hit of Young’s career and the third walk-off homer by a Met this season, joining Jordany Valdespin against the Dodgers on April 25 and Kirk Nieuwenhuis against the Cubs on June 16.
“I think it was big,” Young said of his home run and the win. “Obviously with our captain going down, not sure the extent of his injury and how long he’s going to be out. It definitely was a pickup for everybody, including myself.”
“We definitely needed our spirits boosted up with the captain going down,” Young said.
Young, who had been batting .189 in his last ten games and .232 in his last 30 games prior to last night, gave the team the jolt it needed and maybe with that homer the Mets’ left fielder can put his slump behind him.
