I’m guessing it has to do with how many games are scheduled earlier in the season….

The Credidation on Service is really about how many games and what proportion of the season you played not a date on the calendar.

perhaps they don’t have the minimum number of games scheduled between the start of the season and June to make the date earlier.

Havens back issues seem chronic and even when close to heathy he hasn’t performed. With Murphy’s defense much improved, Vadespin’s offensive approach too and Wilmer Flores showing that he could become a valid option too, I’m pretty sure Havens will be DFA within the next couple of weeks.

Likewise, the fact that Elvin Ramirez was among the first wave of cuts doesn’t bode well for his standing.
Gonzalez Germen got rave reviews in Winterball – but looked underwhelming in his apppearances with lower velocity than advertised. It’s probably either him or Puello as the final casualty, assuming Byrd, Atchison and one of the lefties Feliciano, Laffey or Rice is added to the roster.

I see Latroy Hawkins opening at AAA as the Mets will want at least one of Familia and Burke – if not both – on the major league roster. At least if Atchison is 100 %.

and if Quintanilla makes it, then Hicks is the obvious casualty.

One major league executive estimated the Super 2 cutoff may be around June 15 this year, so we may not see Wheeler until after that date.

That goes for D’Arnaud too.

too premature to say Kirk & Den Dekker are going to AAA. I bet at least one comes North and the only reason Kirk would go to AAA is because of his injury. And Valdy is still a 2B option as well.

Reese still has too much upside and power potential to risk losing. Especially for a middle infielder. Most of his injuries have been freakish and I think we should give him one last season before we toss in the towel.

I wouldnt be surprised to see a couple of guys traded for a box of baseballs just to free up some roster spots.

Hicks, barring a major turnaround, is most likely gone. Lutz has options I would imagine as does Elvin and Carson so they are Vegas bound.

LaTroy hasnt made the team so I would say Burke is in the lead there. And Valdy is in the OF mix unless he goes stone cold. Den Dekker and Kirk at AAA bound also.

well, they are hoping it would not be releasing ,just getting off the 40 man and keeping them. Not all that good a chance some of these guys get claimed, but always a possibility.

I doubt they’ll release Elvin.

Germen is another guy I think they wont just release.

Havens, especially since he’s played soooo poorly this spring, very well could be cut. He’s looked really bad this spring in every game they’ve put him in. Now, I don’t know if he’s impressed them behind the scenes, but if so, you’d think they would’ve found more playing time for him then. I think Havens has finally run out of time in the Mets organization.

If they want to add 3 relievers, then barring a trade I think the most likely to get removed from the 40 man roster are Reese Havens, Elvin Ramirez, and Germen or Robles. If they choose Q over Hicks for backup middle IF, then Hicks would probably get released.
Turner and Lutz seem like duplications to me. Turner has more defensive versatility, but Lutz hits better when healthy. But Lutz strikes me as a AAAA type… or trade bait.

ATTENTION!! An outfielder with major league experience has just been released: the multi talented Joe Mather has been released by Philadelphia. Who wouldn’t want a Phillies castoff? (.219/.271/.357 career performer) Hey, he’s a warm body, and apparently that’s the most important qualification to make this Mets outfield lol.

At this point Hicks, Bixler, and Brown haven’t shown enough to make the club over Turner, Spin, and Qintanilla and with Cowgill, Byrd, and Duda your starting outfield and hopefully
Spin platooning with Byrd or Cowgill or both add Baxter and your back up catcher and
you have your team! The mets bullpen is a little bit of a question mark? If you take Atchison,
La Troy, Feliciano, Lyons, Edgin, Parnell, and Frankie north thats your 7 bullpen guys! They
need to find a way to fit Burke in this group? It would give them a different look and he’s
pitching well enough to make the team! When all is said and done it will be a #’s game!!
