. Lutz probably isn’t good enough to be a major league regular, but we KNOW that Turner isn’t. And I agree, TC is typical manager in making this mistake.

Have to agree here. Either that or Johan really had no clue what condition his arm was in when he got to camp. I find that a little hard to believe though.

IMO, if you end the previous season on the DL – or have any kind of surgery once the season is over – that should disqualify you from participating in the WBC the following spring. Teams that are paying these guy’s salaries deserve to monitor their condition from start to finish in ST.

I don´t expect this to be much of an issue.
Wright may be there for opening day – or may miss the first few games or so.

Whether Turner or Lutz fills in for a handful of games max probably won´t make much of a difference in the standings.

The much bigger question facing the Mets is who do they remove from their 40-man roster to put Scott Atchison, at least one of the lefties (Rice, Laffey, Feliciano) and Byrd on their active roster ? Maybe even a 2nd lefty and Latroy Hawkins too.
Havens probably is the first casualty – but there are at least two more necessary cuts: G.Germen ? El.Ramirez ? Not the end of the world but both pretty solid arms you wouldn´t want to lose. C.Puello ?

The “downside” of the increased depth of young talent at the upper levels is that you´re going to lose some for free – like FMart, Stinson and R.Cruz last year.

Yes Santana most likely knew he was not ready to pitch. TRS, did you ever think both Pujlos and Santana made a national pride jester for show but both really knew since they were coming off DL they were an uninsureable risk by WBC. Accordingly, they knew their chances of a request to play were nil. On the other hand DW playing injured is inexcusable and John Harper seems to be the only one stating the obvious.

Turner being hurt is probably the only way to save Terry from himself. You know he wants to give him all the PT.

and since when is turner some established veteran that can’t be dissed? a couple years as a bench guy gives him Tenure?

i don’t get why we languish with so-so Vets when we have ‘kids’ with more talent, potentially rdy for MLB. And, in this case, i do not mean Flores who is really a kid, but guys like ‘Spin, Lutz, Satin, MMD…guys 25 – 27 yrs old who look very close to being ready and who likely have higher ceilings than the Vets we play: Byrd, Turner (whom i like & is a good Utility guy).
I don’t get it. And it’s not just Collins. Many Big League managers share the same flaw: “play the Vet, because he won’t look stupid on a play, he’s ‘supposed to come through, and if he doesn’t i won’t look so bad–because he was supposed to…”

It is a perfect opportunity to give Lutz an extended look but as usual, the Mets are being led by idiots so thereby Turner plays when everyone know what he is all about.

Lutz in my opinion, can give you 20 hrs, 80 rbi’s while batting at least 270. That is better than the all mighty Murphy but it would not surprise me if they drop him from the roster.

Wright’s injury is not a big deal & I don’t know why everyone’s getting so worked up about it. He will be fine. The last time he injured his rib cage, he recovered and tore the cover off the ball for the first-half of the season.

The ONLY healthy perspective on this situation is to consider DW’s temporary set-back as an opportunity for him to get some rest and for Zach Lutz to get experience. Lutz reminds me of the type of ball player that the Cardinals or Reds produce, who emerge in the late 20′s seemingly out of nowhere, to have very solid, if not spectacular, seasons.

And NO COMPLAINTS about DW’s participation in the WBC. He could have just as easily been injured at PSL. He did us very, very proud and we’ll just leave it at that.

LGM!!!
