It’s not a joke, it’s the reality of the game. If a team is blowing out their opponent, they have no reason to try and throw a runner attempting to steal out – it’s considered Bush to do that.

Well, let’s hope not. Ike hit only .228 in September.

The boy really, really has a lot to prove this year. I’m much more concerned that he begins hitting lefties than I am with him making the all-star team.

A .174 average with a .560 OPS against lefty pitching is not going to get him to the All Star game and a repeat of that could get him platooned.

He has to cut down on the strikeouts against lefties. He’s vulnerable to the sweeping curve and slider.

Major league baseball will not allow the hosting city to not have a representative. Even if wright didnt get voted in, he would be selected by the manager.

I just do not see a scenario where the mets do not have a player on tbe roster in a year when nyc plays host the the all star game. Dont be surprised to see davis the hr derby either

I’m more in the area of .280 BA 28 HRs 98 RBI

I think he is going to focus on the BA and cost himself some HRs in the proccess…

If he gets the BA up around .300 by July then (and only then) does he make a run at 30+ HRs…

Cause he will have locked that BA into a high zone, relax and start pounding the ball.

I have always contended Ike will be an All Star….I won’t say this is the year as it usually takes having a good year before the fans around the country start to know your name enough to vote for you…

And the issue isn’t what Ike does it’s who he is competing against…
Votto, and LaRoche will be getting some votes as well…

So Ike has to come out of the gate flying to make it this year…

That isnt the only thing wrong with Rubin’s article.

It always amazes me that everyone (almost) is convinced that players on other teams will perform especially after poor seasons but never with the Mets. J Upton is presumed that he will have a terrific year with Atlanta yet there is no guarantee. Questions remain about Howard and Utley with their health, something which nobody talks about. Hell, even SF has a ? with Lincecum and whether he will bounce back.

The bottom line is I feel it a fair expectation that some of the mess in camp trying out for the OF will perform this season as will the BP. Which players will pan out versus those who crash and burn, I cannot tell you. However, we will see at least 2 good seasons from OF and 3 or 4 good BP seasons.

Actually the .275 is the overreaching aspect of those stats. The RBIs will come if Ike hits even .250. He drove in over 90 with a horrific start and a 2nd half hitting collapse, both of which arent likely to be repeated.

I like this. Its not overly aggressive, its also not ridiculously conservative. The hardest one to achieve is going to be the RBIs with so many automatic outs in the lineup.

The thing that stood out the most for me in Rubin’s article was his total dismissal of Ike Davis as a meaningful component of the team. The guy hit 32 HRs in a year where he battled Valley Fever and was flirting with (and for a long time below) the Mendoza line as late as the All Star game. There is every reason to believe he can hit 40 HRs and at the least, we should expect 35. And if he can bat 265 or 270 and knock in 90-100 RBIs, that’s a heck of a year and likely part of an all star campaign.

He’s still young. We haven’t seen a full season of stellar production. But there’s plenty of evidence on which to support an argument that he is a rising star, one of the best young 1B in the league and very possibly an All-Star this year.

Home team bias. Best player on that team. History of fast starts. Six-time all-star. All good reasons which when combined, certainly offer a fair argument for making that assumption or prediction.

Let me ask you, are you suggesting he won’t be an all-star. If so, based on what (other than your very clearly and repeatedly stated personal dislike of the guy). Its a serious question. On what would you base a prediction that he won’t make the game, after taking into consideration all the things I’ve listed above.

Dan – I hope with the Mets hosting the All-Star game, that the fans get out and vote for players like Wright, Ike, Murph, Tejada to represent the NL in the game. We saw San Francisco’s fans stuff the ballot box at our expense and now the game is on our home field so it’d be embarrassing to have the minimum 1 qualifying player.

I think it’s certainly plausible. If you look back at how he started the season in 2011 there’s even more reason to hope. It’s odd, you look at his swing, it isn’t particularly quick, it’s kind of long and looping, but he sure does have a knack for putting the barrel of the bat in front of the ball.
