If you think Collins and Valdespin can hold a 15 minute conversation where both know what the other is talking about, you’re a little bit self-serving or convenient with your comparison between he and the last President.

As for Collins being old, the man is. Here is where I will do you another public service. Most blog members don’t do a good job remembering the past. They’re too focused on starting debates over OBP and championing semi-scrubs like Andres Torres and Colin Cowhill to see “the light” and what not. Well, fortunately for you, my memory banks are filled and earning interest. Old men don’t do well coaching young guys. They’re too old school for the young generation. A perfect example was Willie Randolph, who had old man tendencies, which created a rift between himself and Jose Reyes. Willie wanted Jose to be Derek Jeter and act in a manner which better fit his expectation. Bad move, because it cost him a job. A job no other owner will give him because he started a battle with a franchise player which alienated the team. No racism here- check

Lets move over to Collins. My memory banks don’t forget the riot he started on his Anaheim squad many years ago. Very few managers ever start a revolt where he’s canned because of it. The most famous one recently is Bobby Valentine, who has now been chased out via team riot by not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 teams! Quite a feat. Anyway, Collins had a team which despised his actions. Why? He was an old man thinker and it didn’t gel with the squad he had. Out he went. No racism there- check

The reason I say he dislikes Valdespin is the old man complex. He doesn’t like a showoff. He doesn’t like a braggart. He doesn’t like a big mouth. All traits Jordany has been accused of. Funny, but my memory banks takes me back to a time where a certain manager in this town had half a team that resembled arrogant kids like Jordany. Davey Johnson was that man and the Mets were that team. Things worked out pretty well for him. He wasn’t of an old man mindset. He was a player’s coach. It’s probably why no team has ever revolted against Davey.

Collins’ saving grace is Valdespin has been submarined by the organization partly because he isn’t a top flight kid, although Minaya seemed to think he had superstar potential. If Valdespin didn’t have all the negative pub, or the Mets were more concerned with fielding a winning team, Valdespin wouldn’t have received the old man to young guy shaft he received last season. Valdespin deserves at least 500 at bats this season no matter whether he fails or succeeds. What we Met fans don’t need is Collins acting like Colonel Mustard when Jordany starts dancing around in the dugout. No racism there either- check

Here’s another clue in the event you have not passed out from all the knowledge I’m overloading your memory banks with. The reason the Mets hired Collins was because the owners weren’t going to have money to sign high priced talent. They wanted a drill Sgt manager who could bully the semi-scrubs like Emaus and Torres, half prospects like Murphy and bums like Turner into playing hard for him. They knew the team would stink, so Collins was a perfect mindless manager who could drop his bully technique on a collection of scrubs. They could compete for a bit before the wheels eventually would fall off. He almost allowed his mindless habits to get him in hot water with David Wright. At the end of the day, you don’t want a guy like Collins running a collection of good young talent into the ground with his nonsensical way of managing.

It was as stupid to complain about ‘Los Mets’ as it is to complain about David Wright. Although for the life of me I don’t see what David Wright has to do with ‘Los Mets’ though. Amazingly enough I can think that Carlos Beltran is a great player and was a great Met, Jose Reyes is a great player and was a great Met and David Wright is a great player and a great Met, I try and leave race to the bigots.
