Valdespin (bats left) Corey Maybin (bats right). They are just about the same age and exiting ballplayers. Very similar. I can see a bigger upside to Spin maybe as high as a Kevin Mitchell type.

Reyes hardly ever drew walks either when he first came up…. A good eye at the plate can take years to develop

Three reasons.
1. Depodesta has a miserable draft record. His drafts were nothing short of an abomination with SD and LA
2. Nimmo was awful in Brooklyn. So awful, it was eye-popping. Compare him at 19 to some other players who have turned into MLB stars and it doesn’t look good for him
3. Nimmo was drafted after watching him play on travel teams. His High School didn’t have a team. I seriously question a teenager whose competition was questionable to say the least.

In case you haven’t been watching this team since we lost Jose Reyes, we’re a collection of turtles on the basepaths. In order to go first to third, the Mets need to petition MLB to allow our baserunners to use mopeds!

Spin has got to be the best offensive (maybe in a few ways) OF’er we’ve got. Cowgil & Byrd have had equal or better STs, but what they can produce over a full season is questionable. Baxter is a solid platoon guy / 4th OF’er. Duda is a homer or a K; Kirk has potential, but wilted last year & hasn’t shown much (injury) this Spring; ditto Brown, Hoffmann. MDD is a human highlight reel defensively–and because of that should make this team, in my view. On a team that has spotty OF defense and a so-so up-the-middle D, i bet MDD ‘saves’ 10 games this year for us IF he plays.
But back to Spin: the kid could, i say could be a star in the early stages. He should be our starting RF’er.

Valdespin can play ball. He’s a gifted athlete and has a solid combination of speed and power. What I like about him most is that he doesn’t play afraid. He wants to be in the big spot at the big time.

Still very early in his career, so a platoon/rotation will suit him well. As he matures, he’ll likely gravitate to one position either at 2nd base or somewhere in the outfield. Over time, I’d like to see him settle into one position. If he can manage to garner 500+ abs, improve his plate discipline and hit @ .300, he could resemble a one-man wrecking crew.

I want to compare him to Jose Reyes b/c he reminds me of him. But there’s something about Valdespin that is so much different. He’s dynamic like Reyes, but in an odd sense, his game is a little more potent, probably because of his raw power…something…more power in his hitting game, more holes in his game defensively…something like that…

I really like his game because he shut up @ 45,000 Philly fans with one swing of his bat. And you just know he’s going to do it again.!

If you’re the opposing team would you rather face Spin or Baxter?? I mean c’mon, still early SP but he has worked his way into the mix all-right. I’m sure we’ll have to deal with some bad ab’s and the balance of an attitude ranging from arrogance to sulk but whatever I’m all- in VSpin, he’ll win games and put up real numbers IMO ..

He certainly has worked his way into the conversation. Right now we have 6 guys wanting to start and JV is the only one performing at a level commensurate with the Major Leagues. If he keeps it up I can not see Baxter or Calgon getting the nod over him. I still see no obvious answers in center except DenDeckers glove is amazing. If Duda picks it up I would not be against Duda DenDecker JV as the starting three.

Actually, my posts make plenty of sense. Perhaps you should examine my posts a little better. Anyone who thinks the collection of used napkins Alderson has put into Met uniforms are worth last week’s raw sewerage might be the one running around like a chicken without his head making no sense whatsoever.

Fortunately, my posts and ideas aren’t operated, indicated nor financed by you. Unless you want to put someone of my elite talents on your payroll…I didn’t think so. Your frustrations are duly noted, however. I will try not to insult your very sheltered members of your rather elitist website…….

Hey Maniac,

I think I’m fine with it. Back in January, I was all about Valdespin getting more reps in AAA so he could continue to develop. It turns out Winter Ball was all that he needed. He has looked amazing so far this Spring, I just hope he keeps it up and earns a starting job come April.
