MetsBlog made Matt Cerrone the most powerful person in the Mets blogosphere. He underestimates the significance of that.

JOE, ONCE MORE I BEG TO DISAGREE, AND IT IS NOT DUE TO THIS CERONE, SELF SUPERIORITY OPINION IS SUDDENLY MANIFESTED, IT’S THE BASIC REASON I PERSONALLY ABANDONED METSBLOG.
UNFORTUNATELY & REMARKABLY, MATT’S TONE & APPROACH IS TOO SIMILAR & VERY REMINISCENT OF FRED’S PERSONAL SI INTERVIEW ON HIS TEAM’S WRIGHT & REYES BACK IN APRIL,’11.
I CAN NOT STRESS STRONG ENOUGH HOW EMPHATICALLY I DISAGREE WITH YOUR OPINION ON MATT’S SELF IMAGE. SURELY HE SEES HIMSELF AS A CUT ABOVE ALL OTHERS, AS THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY PERCEPTION OF HIM EVER SINCE HIS FLEDGLING SITE FIRST RAN AFOUL OF MLB BACK IN THE DAYS OF MLB’S HOSTILITY TO ALL THINGS INTERNET. ONCE METSBLOG TRANSITIONED TO MLB MAINSTREAM STATUS MATT’S PERCEPTION OF SELF IMPORTANCE HAD TRULY TURNED ME AWAY FROM IT AS AN ENTERTAINING RESOURCE. I ASSERT THAT BEING PREACHED TO ON SUNDAYS IS CERTAINLY THE LEAST I CAN ENDURE FOR MY RELIGOUS FAITH AS WELL AS A STEP BEYOND MY TOLERANCE INVOLVING MY PERSONAL SPORTS BELIEFS.

HOFers who never won a CY Young Award. Matt will be in good company.

At least he did not say Matt Harvey would not be a HOFer.

You are, of course, aware that the pitcher who holds the all-time record for wins in a career never won a Cy Young Award either?

Don’t even understand why the subject of the Cy Young Award even had to be brought up in evaluating what we’ve seen so far of Matt. It was just not necessary, in light of the good things he did have to say about the young pitcher. I mean, of the approximate 175 pitchers in each league, 174 aren’t going to win it this coming season too.

I also work for a Vinny B. and I pray that you and him are not the same – for if so, he/you will see from the times listed for my replies, I’m often not doing something I should be doing for that time of day!

I am really at a loss for words on the Harvey post and I believe that Matt C needs to re-think his future posts “rants” , taking into account who reads his SNY affiliated posts and, as JoeD, stated you don’t want to write something down that would impact or make a potential CY winner doubt his abilities cause a lot of players read these sites to see what is being said about them.

I too remember when MetsBlog started and had no affiliation with SNY or Mets and that was his love but now it is time to put on your big boy writing, journalistic, taking classes to learn how to write pants on.

Cy Young…It just means you have a very good year….If the years around it suck then it really means nothing!
It doesn’t even mean you were the best pitching in all of baseball that year since both leagues award one….

I don’t read over there but I sure see enough comments on their articles across many Mets sites. I get the impression none of them are close to experts and it’s just all opinion pieces.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn’t worry too much about what Matt Harvey might think when reading that. Sounds like he’s got a good head on his shoulders and he should know to take much of these opinion pieces with a grain of salt.
Prove him wrong, Matt!

It almost always comes down to the number of wins you have, that usually sets the field on who gets in the running…
And thats as much a product of the team they played on as anything else….
After that they go head to head on other more telling metrics and even THEN if the guy did it on a losing team he almost always gets a leg up on everyone else because they do recognize the wins are a bit team dependent. And any success was DESPITE them….

but just as often, 2 guys have monster years, and one of them gets screwed.

and on that thread, he did make an attempt to explain himself (gotta give some props to him for wading into that shark tank). basically, IIRC, it did not mean Harvey would not be a very good pitcher, just that it is really, really hard to win one, and many pitchers have great years/careers without doing so. So the odds were essentially stacked against Harvey.

now, why he did not just put it like that in the first place, who knows.

Oh, that certainly is a valid point, as someone posted up above. many guys that you would be thrilled to have Harvey pace career wise never won a Cy Young. it really is that hard to do, but at least from a small snapshot, don’t bet against Harvey, based on stuff and desire.

I give them about as much credibility as Pravda and Fars (Iranian) as far as thier reporting is concerned….
