JOE, OVER THE PAST SEASONS U & I HAVE SHARED DIFFERING RESPECTFUL OPINIONS, DESPITE ANY VORACITY IN THESE PAST POSTS I CAN HONESTLY TELL U I HAVE NEVER SUSPECTED U OF NAIVETY UNTIL I READ THIS...

MetsBlog made Matt Cerrone the most powerful person in the Mets blogosphere. He underestimates the significance of that.

JOE, ONCE MORE I BEG TO DISAGREE, AND IT IS NOT DUE TO THIS CERONE, SELF SUPERIORITY OPINION IS SUDDENLY MANIFESTED, IT'S THE BASIC REASON I PERSONALLY ABANDONED METSBLOG.
UNFORTUNATELY & REMARKABLY, MATT'S TONE & APPROACH IS TOO SIMILAR & VERY REMINISCENT OF FRED'S PERSONAL SI INTERVIEW ON HIS TEAM'S WRIGHT & REYES BACK IN APRIL,'11.
I CAN NOT STRESS STRONG ENOUGH HOW EMPHATICALLY I DISAGREE WITH YOUR OPINION ON MATT'S SELF IMAGE. SURELY HE SEES HIMSELF AS A CUT ABOVE ALL OTHERS, AS THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY PERCEPTION OF HIM EVER SINCE HIS FLEDGLING SITE FIRST RAN AFOUL OF MLB BACK IN THE DAYS OF MLB'S HOSTILITY TO ALL THINGS INTERNET. ONCE METSBLOG TRANSITIONED TO MLB MAINSTREAM STATUS MATT'S PERCEPTION OF SELF IMPORTANCE HAD TRULY TURNED ME AWAY FROM IT AS AN ENTERTAINING RESOURCE. I ASSERT THAT BEING PREACHED TO ON SUNDAYS IS CERTAINLY THE LEAST I CAN ENDURE FOR MY RELIGOUS FAITH AS WELL AS A STEP BEYOND MY TOLERANCE INVOLVING MY PERSONAL SPORTS BELIEFS.

Hi Bayonne,

You are, of course, aware that the pitcher who holds the all-time record for wins in a career never won a Cy Young Award either?

Don't even understand why the subject of the Cy Young Award even had to be brought up in evaluating what we've seen so far of Matt. It was just not necessary, in light of the good things he did have to say about the young pitcher. I mean, of the approximate 175 pitchers in each league, 174 aren't going to win it this coming season too.

I saw the post on Harvey and was left dumb founded cause I always thought, based on his 10 starts in 2012, that the sky was the limit for Harvey, dependent on health and his maturity plus guidance from other pitching veterans.

I am really at a loss for words on the Harvey post and I believe that Matt C needs to re-think his future posts "rants" , taking into account who reads his SNY affiliated posts and, as JoeD, stated you don't want to write something down that would impact or make a potential CY winner doubt his abilities cause a lot of players read these sites to see what is being said about them.

I too remember when MetsBlog started and had no affiliation with SNY or Mets and that was his love but now it is time to put on your big boy writing, journalistic, taking classes to learn how to write pants on.

I would consider it a much bigger victory for him if he managed tyo pitch 5 years consecutively with 15 Plus wins....Not many Pitchers actually do that!

Cy Young...It just means you have a very good year....If the years around it suck then it really means nothing!
It doesn't even mean you were the best pitching in all of baseball that year since both leagues award one....

i get that winning a Cy Young is the epitome of excellence in baseball, but so what if MAtt HArvey doesn't not win a Cy but wins 12 - 18 - 20 games / year for the next 10 years. How about that? And how many guys have 1 Cy's (1x) and fizzled or struggled the balance of their careers. So, i guess i'm saying, i'm rooting for Matt HArvey to win a series of Cy's over the next 10 years, with Niese, Wheeler, Montero, Syndergaard winning 1 or 2, and all these guys being in the top 5 of Cy Young polling year after year. How 'bout that?
Regardless of winning a Cy, Matt Harvey is a fine, young pitcher who i bet WILL win at least 1 Cy in his career (hopefully with the Mets!), but regardless should, in my view, have a stellar career.

Not 1 scout has put his name to Wheeler being an ace. This is more Met hype to build up Wheeler. Wheeler has never pitched to an UNDER 3 ERA at any level of the minors. He walks about 4 guys per 9 innings. He doesn't have a strikeout pitch. He barely K's a batter an inning in AA. Find it hard to accept that Wheeler is some dominant ace. He's wild. Harvey isn't. He's beneath Harvey and it's not even close if you really look at his fairly.

Eh...it's just an opinion from a Met fan. One that just happens to run Metsblog. That doesn't make him any more qualified than the rest of us here to to make this type of determination so early in Harvey's career.

I don't read over there but I sure see enough comments on their articles across many Mets sites. I get the impression none of them are close to experts and it's just all opinion pieces.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't worry too much about what Matt Harvey might think when reading that. Sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders and he should know to take much of these opinion pieces with a grain of salt.
Prove him wrong, Matt!

Trying to predict someones career is ridiculous especially when you take into consideration that Harvey's has just begun and the kid has an insatiable desire to win and do so anyway he can. This kids loves the game, he is a big time competitor and pays attention to what makes others winners. I'm not saying he will win a Cy Young but he will do his best to be in contention. I also find it weird that a kid with his stuff and desire is considered less of a number 1 than say Wheeler, of Syndgard. I think that alone will push Harvey even harder.

And then there are the guys who had it because they Juiced up, Win it and then people find out why later! LOL Poor Gio got caught for nothing!

It almost always comes down to the number of wins you have, that usually sets the field on who gets in the running...
And thats as much a product of the team they played on as anything else....
After that they go head to head on other more telling metrics and even THEN if the guy did it on a losing team he almost always gets a leg up on everyone else because they do recognize the wins are a bit team dependent. And any success was DESPITE them....

Joe, comments on that site always close after a relatively short period of time. I always assumed it was just built into the software.

and on that thread, he did make an attempt to explain himself (gotta give some props to him for wading into that shark tank). basically, IIRC, it did not mean Harvey would not be a very good pitcher, just that it is really, really hard to win one, and many pitchers have great years/careers without doing so. So the odds were essentially stacked against Harvey.

now, why he did not just put it like that in the first place, who knows.

Oh, that certainly is a valid point, as someone posted up above. many guys that you would be thrilled to have Harvey pace career wise never won a Cy Young. it really is that hard to do, but at least from a small snapshot, don't bet against Harvey, based on stuff and desire.
