ONE CONSISTANCY THAT’S APPARENT WITH THIS FRANCHISE IS IT’S TENDANCY TO BE YO-YOish IN THE STANDINGS WITH VERY SHORT PERIODS OF PLAIN OLD FASHIONED MIDDLE OF THE PACK MEDIOCRITY. TOP-BOTTOM TRIPS UP & DOWN, LIKE PROVERBIAL YO-YO WHERE ONLY FO DOES SLEEPER TRICK

JOHN, AS FOR d’ARNOUD, I BEIEVE HE’LL BE MORE JOHN STEARNS THAN MIKE PIAZZA AS A MET. CERTAIONLY NOT HORRIBLE & A CERTAIN TENDANCY TOWARDS GAME CONTROL.
SPEAKING OF STEARNS, WHO PERSONALLY AUTHORED ONE OF MY MORE CHERISHED ‘COMIC-RELIEF MOMENTS AS A METS’ FAN WHEN, IN ATLANTA, THE FORMER ALL-AMERICAN LINEBACKER RAN DOWN “CHIEF KNOCK-A-HOMER AFTER HIS MOUND WARDANCE TACKLING THE SPRY OLDER MAN B4 HE REACHED HIS OUTFIELD TEEPEE. He was out in front and his hips were wide open at the point of contact. Not at all balanced. He likely got fooled, but recovered nicely. He was still out in front. He was able to keep his weight back a little and get the barrell on the ball.

He’s back. Not because of the hit but the way he’s been swinging all spring. Totally balance, staying back as much as possible. He looks 100% normal up there and gone is all that crazy body-language and excessive lunging from last year. It’s gone.

I fully expect a solid year from Ike at no worst than .250/35/90. But he’ll do better than that.

If this was a Veteran saying this I might agree….
But d’Arnaud also has to trust the Pitcher especially one who faced MLB hitters for half a season and did quite well doing what he did.

If Travis was a guy who has worked with many great pitchers (like Grote), the the Quote is valid….
But even a guy like Grote did not tell Seaver and Koosman what to throw and where, when they agreed it happened and when they didn’t THOSE pitcher did what they hell they wanted! In that case the Catcher had to trust the Pitcher not the other way around!

In time as they worked together more and more they learned (together) what each other’s thinking was and then it wasn’t about trust it was about SYNERGY!

Travis is still too inexperienced to be dictating to the Pitcher even one as young as Harvey. And Harvey is not apt to listen to others telling him what to throw anyway because when they tried (throw more Changeups) he didn’t succeed, but when he went back to pitching his game the way he always had he had some pretty good success!
