the vast majority of rational, knowledgeable fans appreciate both guys for what they are (or were) which is some of the best players in the sport, that we were lucky to have on the team.

Wright really had next to nothing to do with Reyes.

Much more interesting to look to the future than endlessly rehashing the past.

we go into austerity mode for 3 years, then spend on Wright…then go right back into austerity mode when its time to pick up a free-agent.

when bringing up reyes, his accomplishments were too far in the past…but then when u look at 2011..his accomplishments were only b/c it was a walk year…

u literally flip-flop about reyes in the same argument.

and all that logic is reversed when talking about Wright.

the problem taskmaster….is that this team has had several legitimate All-Stars….but there is a major discrepancy in how they are viewed by the media and henceforth the fans.

The reaction to that discrepancy is what you see in the anti-wright comments here.

its unfortunate, because that discrepancy makes it very difficult to not highlight the times Wright fails.

We probably bash Wright now, more than any Phillie or Yankee fan that ever lived.

They would love to have Wright on their squad….

but guess what…they probably would’ve loved to have beltran or johan or any of the legitimate all-stars that UNLIKE WRIGHT, were taken for granted from 2005-2011

Like you, I like Wright as a player. He is a perennial producer albeit, not a top notch player. I agree with the assessment that Wright is better served as 5 as opposed to the #3 hitter but the Mets would never do that. Overall, he is solid as a player (and a person based upon your meeting of him). And yes, if he continues at the clip he is, he will be a HOF player.

Same with Alderson. I like the philosophy he is implementing and argue against the same path that got the Mets the tragic results they had over the last 20 years. That does not mean he is a genius, a guru, or some kind of messiah. At the same time, he isnt a miser except when it is necessary. He had to cut payroll in Oakland when the owners (kids) forced him to. Before that, they had one of the higher payrolls in the game. Same with the Mets. He cut payroll because Uncle Bud told him to. Overall I think Alderson has done a good job improving the organization and put them in a position to contend in future years. Does this make him the best GM in the world? Nope. Nor does it make him the worst.

And I guess that is the rub. It seems the attackers of these guys want to make them look like they are the worst (POS is the term used) walking the planet. The truth is Wright is a legitimate All Star even though he is not a superstar. Perhaps Wright isnt Mr Clutch….he still puts up a .300 average, 20 hrs, and almost 100 RBIs every year. The fact that people claim he doesnt do it in September or in the 9th inning is not relevant. Every RBI counts no matter when it is driven in. A run in the 1st in April counts the same as a run in the 9th in Sept as do wins.

Maybe if you grow up and respect other fans here I would give you more credit.

FYI, Wright finished in the top 30 for MVP 6 out of his 8 years as a Met.
