Help raise awareness for the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.
The charity was started by Rusty in 1985 to help the widow’s and children of New York first responders killed in the line of duty.
Joining us on the hangout will be Mark Berman of Blogging Mets and of course our own Stephen Hanks who will be representing Mets Merized Online.
In addition we will have some of Rusty’s fans joining us. If you would like to have a chance to join us in the hangout we have one spot open.

I'm a lifelong Mets fan who loves writing and talking about the Amazins' 24/7. From the Miracle in 1969 to the magic of 1986, and even the near misses in '73 and '00, I've experienced it all - the highs and the lows. I started Mets Merized Online in 2005 to feed my addiction. I was your first Twitter like Joe, This is a great idea and I hope for it’s success. I Iost my uncle in the line of duty in 1996. I know the trauma it caused our family and it never really heals.
Wait, does Ed Marcus know about this?
I don’t know. Rusty and Robert both asked me to try and reach out to as many fellow Mets sites as I could. I tweeted MetsBlog, the Beat Writers, and plan to reach out to some Mets Sites later this evening.
But let me put it this way, the Stanton article got 272 reactions, and the only reactions to Rusty and his Charity event amounted to 3 retweets from Rich Couthino, Mets Police and Mark Healey.
That said, it’s only been like 4 hours this has been live. So as Rusty Staub would agree, Ya Gotta Believe in Mets fans!
You know I wonder if you titled the post “Join Us For A Moneyball Sabermetric Google Hangout With Rusty Staub” would those additional words have generated way more retweets? Seems like all it takes sometimes is adding certain buzz words in a title.
I think I just laughed for the first time in two days.
Rusty got me in big trouble last year with the core.
As for MetsBlog, they probably will not pay much attention to the Rusty event until he says something interesting then they will post/write about it and not give the author or website any credit for the question. I hear that happens on Rusty calls sometimes.
Rusty really was quite a well rounded player/athlete in his earlier days. A lot of people only remember him toward the end as that large redhead that could PH really well, but ran like grandma!
