Zack Wheeler Could Join Team By The All-Star Break
Today, Sandy Alderson did a live chat on Mets.com taking questions from fans through Twitter.
I decided to give it a shot, so I asked Sandy if it was possible that Zack Wheeler could be called up to the team come the All-Star break? Much to my surprise, he answered, and as you’ll see in the video below, it was the first question he answered..
According to Alderson, it’s very possible that the Mets’ top pitching prospect will join the team by the All-Star break.
Alderson said that currently he has a solid 5-man rotation, but he assumes that everyone going into the season might not be healthy by the middle of the year. The Mets general manager said its feasible that Wheeler will be called up around the All-Star break.
Sounds like a logical response. Plus the addition of Shaun Marcum will certainly keep the team from rushing Wheeler to the majors.

Take your time with Zach…he is our future and must be handled like a fragile piece of expensive china.
Video???
Around the time Johan or Marcum is traded. Make sense.
It makes me wonder, when Johan & Marcum are traded, and Wheeler takes one of the spots, who will occupy the other spot? Are they considering Montero since they’re gonna take a long look at him during camp?
We’re trading Marcum? Huh? For what reason?
1 year contract, most likely bait for teams looking for an arm in exchange for additional prospects. All depends on if he stays healthy.
Mejia, McHugh.
But both have to be traded first ofcourse.
Knowing the wilpons, they will salary dump Johan and keep Marcum to help avoid falling below 70 wins.
What about gee? Do you think him and a prospect could get a respectable outfielder
Define respectable.
Adjective
Regarded by society to be good, proper, or correct.
(of a person’s appearance, clothes, or behavior) Decent or presentable.
from Latin respectus “regard,” literally “act of looking back at one,” pp. of respicere “look back at, regard, consider,” from re- “back” + specere “look at”
Got it! Basically we are getting Rasmus for that package.
Maybe when marcum is traded. Santanas contract is not tradeable.
I’m not ready to give up yet on the Season. IF we get Bourn on our terms ($$$$’s, MLB rule), Duda rebounds, Brown & Cowgil prove worthy platoons, Ike has a great year, our catching is better than yr ago, our up – middle D is ‘good’…our pitching with Marcum is actually good: Niese, Harvey, Marcum, Gee, Santana – Wheeler…and the ‘pen looks better…nope, not giving up…i could see an 85 – 90-win Season. Okay, true, i haven’t woken up yet.
I wish this kid all the luck on the world, he’s gonna need it. with alderson filling the team with rejects and PO’ss, all the focus will be on this guy. all the expectations and title talk will be placed on him since we haven’t acquired one major leaguer who can help the ball club.
Yup, I mean all those POS’s like Ike, Murphy, Tejada, Wright, Duda, Niese, Harvey, Johan, Marcum, Gee, Kirk…
You keep saying this but then you also admit its really only a couple of positions that are filled with what you label crap.
Key word…. Filling the team.. he’s surrounded those players with rejects and PO’ss.. What part of that you don’t understand? You see why people called you an alderson shill? You defend the man to no end and now you’re not even bothering to read and assume we right away are talking shyt about the guy. get your head out of his ass…
Such as who Alex? Again, we have “holes” if you consider those guys as not crap, in RF and Catcher. He addressed catcher. So are you saying he surrounded them with crappy bench players?
You can’t have it both ways, you can’t say you like most of the players on the team and then say he surrounded them with crap. You are only talking about 5 players on a 25 man roster.
Projected guess at a 25 man roster
Ike, Murphy, Tejada, Wright, Duda, Kirk, Cowgill, Brown, Buck, Recker, Turner, Baxter?
Johan, Niese, Harvey, Gee, Marcum
FFF, Lyon, Edgin, Parnell, with lots to pick from to fill out the pen.
That entire interview was a bunch of softballs, which makes sense since it was on Mets.com. I’m glad they got to your question, but I’m pretty sure most fans were expecting Wheeler to be on a similar arc as Harvey last year (at worst) or called up to the majors whenever d’Arnaud comes up June 1st??
