Wonderful story, Joe.

Always like reading articles on how my fellow Met fans actually became a Met fan. And much like you and your daughter, I was 'introduced' to the Mets at a very young age by my Dad as well. Poor guy didn't have any sons but no matter - two of us daughters are still die hard Met fans.

Thanks also for the kind words and YES you are quite correct, New York Mets: The Complete Illustrated History, available on Amazon btw ;), is very suitable for everyone from 3 to 103. There's so many great authors out here, you included, that make being a Mets fan that much more enjoyable.

Joe,
New York Mets: The Complete Illustrated History is clean enough to read to your daughter. : ) And there is a pull tab on the cover to make the images change from old guys to new(er). Anyway, very nice story. And good use of Robert Frost. We could all use more Frost and less snark with our Mets--and our snowy evenings.

Hi Joe,

Wonderful story, really.

Just sorry that you lost your father at such a young age. I was fortunate that my dad lived to be 91 (the last ten years, unfortunately, in a nursing home, however) but I my memories go full cycle to the day that he too me to my first Yankee game in 1960, my first Met game in 1962, to when time changed course I was able to treat him to box seats at a Father's Day doubleheader at Shea back in 1971 (best seats he ever sat in - though he wound up paying for most everything else LOL) and to a senior citizens day at Shea in 1984 when it was all on me.

You and your daughter will share many, many wonderful times together in the future - it already shows in the loving way you write about her. There's a song recorded in the mid sixties by a TV show host at the time called "The Man In My Little Girl's Heart". It starts out with his little daughter saying there is a little boy outside who wants to know if he can play with her and ends with her saying there's a little boy outside, he wants to know if grandpa can play with him.

Sure you already anticipate the feeling.
