This explains the random news the other day that ‘Spin will only be playing INF this spring. You’d have to think he’s next in line. He would add speed, and hopefully his bat continues to improve so that he could actually be a decent option. The defense isn’t much of a worry for me because well Murphy’s not known for great defense either. That said, hopefully Murphy is back in plenty of time to get reps to be ready for opening day. As for Wilmer, everyone knows he’s not starting at 2B until late July anyway.

Yes, agree, which is why i think that with another good year under his belt–maybe with a bit more power–he’d be very attractive to an AL Club.

Your comment reminded me of someone that used to be a part of this community named
“T Agee”. He said once something similar about Murphy. I want to say it was sometime before the 2012 season started if not possibly even earlier in the midst of the 2011 season. I can’t really recall exactly but the point is soon after that statement I have come to agree with him that Murphy may not have speed or power or a great arm or a great glove but he definitely can do one thing and that is just flat out hit.

If Murph has an ‘InterCoastal…what would Havens come down with…a TriCoastal? Murphy is a bonafide MLB hitter. It’s best for him and US that he has another good–even better year–in ’13 to boost his trade value to an AL Club. Then, if Havens is healthy for a year and produces, maybe he or Flores could play 2B. Not before.

I have to laugh. As soon as Murphy has any problem the anti Murphy fans all light up and want to put others at 2nd base. He hasnt even been checked yet, but get rid of him & put someone else at 2nd base. Last year Hairston & Wright had the same problem yet no one wanted to makea change. Murphy haters are all around.

Rib Tip for the win. Honestly, though, I really hope Havens can show something this spring. He has so much promise, when healthy. Would hate to see him catch on with another team and rip it up, Uggla style.

Also would like to see if Flores can make a push too.

I love me some Murph, but I can see him becoming trade bait as he gets more expensive.

absolutely NJ. Cue up the Flores/havens battle and may the best man win!

one good thing though is it is so early, that you can be smart and shut down for a couple of weeks, and still have plenty of time to get ready. much better than doing it at the tail end of ST!

and in Murphy’s case, he at least is not trying to learn a new position this year.

so rest enough to make sure all is well, and no harm no foul.

Sounds as if he’ll be okay…

If not, I’d hope Havens steps up. He seems to give the Mets the most upside. Flores probably isn’t ready and most likely needs some time in Vegas.

Anyone else would just be a utility role fill in. No real replacement for Murph’s offense.

I’m really not concerned at this time about Murphy missing any time. I just like that if he does happen to miss time we have at least some depth there.
