He doesn’t need to hit a lot of HRs to be a good option for catcher but it’s kind of a requirement for a #5 hitter.

He might be protection batting behind Dude but behind Ike in the #5 spot they would just Pitch around Davis and take thier chances on d’Arnaud since he is not the base clearing threat Davis or Duda is.

If healthy I would assume more than 500 PA but that’s besides the point. He’s also still developing. Also, I don’t want to get too hung up on the HR as defining what that spot needs. The Mets need a reliable RH hitter with some pop and an all around good hitter that doesn’t strike out that much to hit between Davis and Duda. It doesn’t need to be strictly a HR hitter.

Becerra: Do you have any insight into his recovery from having been beaned last year? I havent read anything about it and it would seem to be a huge factor in evaluating him as a prospect.

Great list. And great names for the supplemental list, as well.

Here’s one for you: Branden Kaupe, 2B. Possibly the fastest player in the organization. Tiny guy. Despite getting blown away in Kingsport this I have a feeling about this kid. He is incredibly strong and has an edge, not unlike Wally Backman from back in the day. And he understands where his talent – such as it is – lies.

FWIW, the Mets thought enough of him to take him in the fourth round of this past year’s draft. I understand that it might have more to do with strategy (relating to slot money) but the value to this front office of OBP cannot be understated.

Keith Law Mets sleepers are Rafael Montero and Jacob deGrom but I don’t know how they are sleepers if they are also in his top 10?

Actually, Rosario was the 3rd ranked SS prospect on BA’s list of 20, if you count the voided Luis Castro. 8 shortstops were on the list. He was ranked #11 overall.

The Blue Jays went hard in this year’s International market…

They signed the #1, #9, and #13 prospects, which were all shortstops. The #9 prospect Luis Castro had his contract voided, however.

Thx for the reply. Flexen may be the guy I’m thinking of and I am just wrong regarding the Ivy League school part. For some reason I recall reading about a pitcher the Mets drafted that it was said I believe by B.A. he was a long shot to sign with the Mets because he was more likely to sign a letter of intent with some school.

Flexen had some signability issues because he had committed to Arizona State and that’s the reason he dropped to the 14th round – and why we had to go overslot for him. It was a nice pick-up and I think it’ll pay dividends for us in the future, because Flexen has a lot of potential.

I wonder if he was the player you were thinking of?

Not denying the potential is there but hardly anyone with it is a sure bet at this point.
Especially not if they are being taught to take fat fastballs down the pipe to increase thier PPPA…LOL

No Venezuelan 16YO can be called the goods. He got thrown a record bonus but two better shorts stops were available and went to other teams. If you thought Alex Escobar and F-Mart had the goods, then I guess you can say he does. But that doesn’t make it so and it dont mean anything at this stage of the game.

Perseus do you recall a pitcher the Mets drafted that I believe it was said in BA that the Mets may be unable to sign him due to the pitcher most likely going to an Ivy League school and if you do wasn’t Flexen that pitcher?

He’s supposedly the goods and not just a throw-in player in the Dickey trade. We have to see how he responds to getting hit in the face with a pitch last year though…some guys can never turn the corner again mentally after suffering a fluke injury like that.

Yeah but thats Minor League numers that project to 26 HRs over 500 PA and in the MLB probably translates to around 20 HRs.

Not really my definition of Power….As for vaughn and aderlin….Maybe but how long before they get here?

We really need a RHB power threat and soon otherwise Davis and Wright will be hurting
And Duda will be a bust without someone to protect him or force pitchers to pitch to him.

Maybe d’Arnaud can prtect behind Duda but it won’t mean squat if there isn’t someone between him and Davis that is a threat to pop one.

I want to see how Wuilmer Becerra does this year. The Mets had to really like him to select him as that 3rd guy in a list of 100+. He was only 17 last year in RK ball and managed to post a .250 .359 .375 .734 in very limited AB’s.

I think it depends on the definition of power. Most scouts say TDA can develop HR power having 16 HR last year in just 303 PA.

After that it’s Vaughn and Arod and both of those guys have so many holes in their game at this point….

Perseus don’t know if you saw what Mayo had to say about German Ahmed Rosario.
