Oh I forgot they can throw Mejia and Famillia at the Marlins as well in a package. Mets rotation is set for years and cost effective with Wheeler, Harvey, Gee and Niese and will still have whoever does not go in the trade. They can sign a free agent to take that spot or whoever does not go in trade. It is a must to make an attempt to get Stanton and he will, Alderson knows you pay for power and he is probably targeting Stanton right now for next year, thats why you can not give up that pick for Bourn.

Stanton is far from a dream and much more reality. He probably does not go on the market till next off season. Now you guys are saying we have to give up Harvey or Wheeler, but after this year Syndergaurd could be Wheeler now or last year. He is reportedly more advanced and developed than Wheeler was at Single A and would line up perfect with Jose Fernandez to front the rotation becasue they would be ready at around the same time. Flores would be their third baseman of the future and his right now a top ten third base prospect and by next year could move up. Throw two or one of Fullmer, Montero, Tapia, or Mateo and one of the first round hitting prospects they recently drafted.

Mets match up nicely with them and Marlins are known that they do not care about trading within the division, they care about getting the best prospects. As for money he is not even arbitration eligible yet. not sure but he might start next year so as far as money you guys are bugging, they do not have to sign him, they can go to Arb with him if need be every year, so they get him for about 4 years. They will have to pay eventually to lock him up long term after Arb or just to buy out Arb year and some free agency. But I am not sure that will cost 20 a year, probably close. Regardless they will have the money, he is not 31, if you give someone like Stanton a big contract you do it when he is young and get him through his prime years. The only thing to worry about is if another team can give a better package, the last thing is money.

You're right just look at the price of Upton. He was already signed to a 10+ mil contract, disliked by the manager and FO, and still cost a borderline all star guy plus a couple really good prospects, and it is a team who is making a three year run so was willing to pay a little extra. Guys like Stanton very rarely get traded, and even then it's only with the added bonus of needing to sign them to a 20+ million extension because they only have a year or two left of arbitration.

They'll want more because they could get more from other teams.

If anyone wants to know the prospect cost for some like Stanton in his pre-arb years who bearing a catastrophic injury will be a perennial MVP candidate, think of the top 5 prospects you would trade in a million years then pick 3 plus 2 or 3 of the next 5 best.

that's not going to be possible. If they sign Lyon, they are going to be done with the bullpen (major league deals that is).

Im sure that Lyon is going to be given an opportunity to close and that is one of the reasons why he would choose the Mets instead of accepting a setup role from a better team.

We can be a World Series contender w/o him.

I wouldn't take Freeman and certainly not LaRoche over Ike, but then I think Ike is the player we saw in the 2nd half last year when he was clearly the best 1Bman in the division. Howard is awful. I like Murph over Espinosa and Uggla who may be the worst 2Bman in the game and who has some pretty horrendous holes in his swing. Utley is done and Young isn't far behind. Simmons and Tejada are close defensively ... offensively they had the same exact avg and virtually the same OBP, but Tejada had 298 more at bats so I'll believe Simmons is Tejada with a little more power when he can do it for a full season (he really tailed off after he came up hot). Ian Desmond is great but overall I really would take our infield over the Nats' for the next 3 - 4 years. If Murph can improve even marginally over last year's decent showing I think defensively were better. David Wright is the best 3Bman in the league and If D'Arnaud lives up to half his hype we should be set. We'll see how things play out but I think our infield is as good as any.

it's not 1983 anymore. The entire scope of Free Agency has changed since there. If the Mets traded for Justin Upton they would have 3 years of his services before he goes to the highest bidder.

As great as Upton would look here, they are still too far away to make that kind of deal now.

Stanton, on the other hand, is a completely different story and I really hope they go after him a year from now.

The young pitchers we have in A and A+ will be more valuable a year from now and its even possible it can be done with Syndergaard as the center piece.
