Lou, try 1988.. we had beaten the dodgers 10 out of 11 games, we had a better record than they did, yet, somehow because of the ever strange and stupid rules of MLB they were awarded home field advantage against us. of course, they wound up beating us in 7 games at their house. but it was game 4 who decided our fate, with the chance to go up 3-1 with the scored 4-2 in the 9th inning, gooden was looking to complete the game and mike scioscia after a hit (Don’t remember who) hit a line drive HR that tied the game. that changed the whole complexion of the series, just like game 2 of the 2006 NLCS. ugh…

That’s pretty funny about your dad not parking a foreign car in the driveway! LOL

My dad teased me after I bought my Camry. He frequently asked if I wanted to drive over in my Japanese car and watch his copy of the Ben Affleck film, Pearl Harbor. LOL

I reminded him, that if I would, we’d be watching it on his Toshiba TV

Loved this story – remembering Mets history with your car history.

My Dad – now 78 – was the original ‘buy American’. You did not live in his house and park a foreign car in his driveway. My first car was a Chevy, as were my next 4 cars. The next one was a Ford, 3 after that Mercurys, last 2 Lincolns. Best car I ever owned was a 1996 Continental I bought in ’98. I drove it for 11 years, my sister has been driving it for the last 3…still going strong.

If only my Mets were as reliable as my cars have been……

ROb, the CORE salute you for this article… we all saw the 80′s man and kept thinking “3 championships” at least for us. but instead. nope, one and lucky to have it. with the players we had it was hard to imagone not to. even after the mets lost the 2006 NLCS i thought to myself “This will be the start of a dynasty” but once again, i was wrong along with many. 8 years later we cleared the CORE of that season except for one guy, but the same remains. we still are a losing franchise.
