A few years ago Andy Martino wrote of Ricco:

That is a trait that is sorely lacking in Sandy Alderson. Those who work with say he lets people know he is the one in charge and that they have to do it his way.

And that is what is hurting the Mets. He should never have been put in a position to run baseball matters because he is not a professional and should instead rely on others to give him their “vision” of what has to be done. He believes the game could be understood in terms of statistical analysis and being the one in charge, nobody dares tell him differently about the superficiality of his understanding . And the only ones who have the power to do so can’t because they are handcuffed by their friend, the Commissioner.

Courtney Hawkins and Jose Fernandez are examples of where Sandy could’ve gotten potential impact players w/o having to trade for them

if they just stepped back…allowed a GM to shape the team in his image…a consistent image…than maybe we would have a system like that…

but the wilpons have traditionally hired guys who were young or had lil experience…

harazin – phillips – omar – duquette….

none of those guys had any leverage here…

and those are 4 of the 5 GM’s we’ve had since Cashen….

I cant even count Sandy because Bud damn near forced him here….

leave it up to Fred and I think John Ricco would be GM right now…

and my money right now is on JP being the next GM ( Tommy Tanous being the new director of scouting? o wait, he’s a former JP scout from Toronto )

JP pretty much had no GM prospects after he got ran out of Toronto…

and this is the guy that just signed a 3 year extension here….

This year I want Austin Wilson or Justin Williams. I’m not going to bother watching and getting pissed off when they pass on them.

if the mets do not provide a product worth seeing…people wont come…

if people wont come…the mets dont make money…they cant invest in the team….

they cant invest in the team….the team doesnt get better….less people come…

less people come…the mets make less money….so on and so forth….

You can fight a lawsuit with a good lawyer…

You cant force fans to come buy your product

and NY is a results oriented town.

…u can have 25 team ambassadors that kiss babies and smile for the camera…it wont matter…we will still not come buy your product if you are losing year after year…

As with all Mets prospects hopefully he develops one day into a solid future player for the Mets.

Are you really so confidence that the Mets have resolved their financial problems enough to they can begin re-investing more into player personnel? Not from all I’ve been reading. Also, if they are not going to loose money beginning let us say 2014, could it be because they are keeping spending down to the bare minimum.

Most of the problems have at least been resolved and while they still have debts to pay they are known and manageable. So even if they lose money this year as long as they are on the trajectory toward profitability they can plan accordingly.

I reject your belief that they are unaware of the fact that they need to spend money to put a winning team on the field. Nothing in their history pre-Madoff years would suggest that they didn’t like spending money. But there is a big difference between wanting to spend and being able to spend.

I guess we”ll have to wait and see.

We know where it will NOT come from…

I do believe that when the Wilpons feel they are out of mortal financial danger as it relates to maintaining the team they will start to spend again. Differently than they did in the free spending days of the not to distant past but I do believe they will increase spending. To not do so would endanger their ability to hold on to the team.

You can disagree all you want but it doesn’t make your opinion any more valid than mine.

Note he never suggested that we WERE going to spend in 2014 as the folks from the FLACCID seem to suggest….
