BOTH COLLINS & BACKMAN APPEAR TO HAVE VERY SIMILAR CLUBHOUSE PERSONNAS, MEANING THE METS’ F.O. IS UNLIKELY TO SEAT A SIMILAR VOICE IN TERRY’S CHAIR, MORE LIKELY IOT’LL BE WILPON FAVORITE TUFFEL WITH BACKMAN PLANNED AS TUFF’SUCCESSOR
CERTAINLY A TEAM WITH LITTLE POTENTIAL FOR GRANDEUR REQUIRES A LOUD, STRIDENT VOICE TO MAINTAIN THEIR CONCENTRATION ON THE JOB @ HAND DESPITE IT’S APPARENT FUTILITY.

Why does Terry need to go to Sandy AND Jeff Wilpon about this matter? I thought Sandy Alderson ran the Mets and the owners just stayed in the background and wrote the checks. Wait a second? You don’t think……NO! Can’t be. Jeff Wilpon…..making baseball decisions about the Mets!!!!! No……That can’t be. Everyone knows that the sole person responsible for the New York Mets is Sandy Alderson, not the owners.

The predictions for the 2013 season might well be very accurate. The Nationals are the class of the division and to me the Braves are going to sorely miss Chipper Jones. The Phillies just keep getting older and we should be around the .500 mark

My prediction….Unless this Jeter/Wright comparison crap stops and the David Wright haters keep their mouths shut…that one of the over zealous Met fans will go postal and have the entire bunch nuked!

Only in Mets-land is a friggin “C” on a jersey a topic of discussion…especially when youre putting a terrible lineup on the field…

I guess this is Terry Collins way of trying to get a contract extension kiss David Wrights A_ _!!(butt). since he’s the only one on this team that is untouchable not to mention the only one NOT in the front office that is privy to this masterplan.

Alderson has made only 3 solid moves in his entire tenure here….getting Wheeler, the package from Toronto, and NOT re-upping that windbag Collins.

I think it would be a nice gesture to name David as team captain, however, I don’t know how wise it was for Terry to let the press know he was going to ask the front office for their permission first. It puts the front office on the spot (which I don’t care about) by going against protocol.

If memory serves me correctly, I recall Collins answering a question about Wright being a captain a couple of years ago by stating something to the effect that he learned from Leyland that there is only one captain of the ship and it is the manager. Therefore, no team captain is necessary.

I wonder what caused him to change his tune?

I really do not care about the captain of a baseball team but if this happens I will consider it an early Christmas gift from the Mets because the sideshow here will be epic.

One thing I find curious, how come people who sit on their couch all day watching the Mets think they know who is more right to be named the captain? If the manager and the players are on board – why should anybody else’s view matter?

A good manager who’s confident in himself should be the leader until one emerges from the roster. They don’t dictate them out of the clear blue sky and they certainly should know how leaders emerge. I’ve had enough of Collins last year.

It’s not a big deal. A letter on a jersey doesn’t magically make someone a ‘leader’. Anyone who’s watched Wright could see that he was that type even before he first came up.

I know you have issues with reply buttons but who the heck are you even talking to? Me or JMKG? Neither of us said anything about Wright being named a captain and both said that we didn’t think it was useful.
