About the Author: Joe DeCaro

I'm a lifelong Mets fan who loves writing and talking about the Amazins' 24/7. From the Miracle in 1969 to the magic of 1986, and even the near misses in '73 and '00, I've experienced it all - the highs and the lows. I started Mets Merized Online in 2005 to feed my addiction. • @METS #AskSandy How many kids MUST a teams CORE consist of before it’s ready to complement and build around them? We have 8 4 Pitchers and 4 Regular players. What do we need before we are ready to rejoin the MLB?

  • #Ask Sandy. Is your long winded non answer answers and outright “embellishments” and, well, deceptions to media and fans almost at an end? #response #sandy = #i’ll respond to that when the occasion is appropriate for non descript non baseball related ambiguous answers is at hand #answer ask sandy…#lol

  • I’d ask Sandy if he now wants to punch Bud Selig in the mouth.

    • Tough guy talk suitable for Bayonne. Two wannabees. SMH

  • Ask him if he intentionally makes his voice as boring as possible. I practically fall asleep whenever he starts talking.

  • Ask him if he can calculate the speed with how fast New York City would have knocked him on his ass if he told the truth and said in public that he purposely tanked the last 3 off seasons in order to have a better draft pick. Also ask him if he has smiling Joe DeCaro posters all over his house too.

    • It’s not a poster, it’s a fathead. Jeez

    • I’m going to ask him if he’s been getting threatening phone calls.

      • Forget the phone calls. Can you imagine the poor intern that has to read all the tweets from the internet tough guys?

  • ask sandy if he will still persue outfielders I DONT CARE HOW HE GETS THEM JUST GET THEM??

  • ask sandy FOR A NEW YORK SPORTS TEAM IF YOU DONT WANT TO SPEND MONEY ON FREE AGANTS I HEAR YOUR MINOR LEAGUES HAVE GOOD TALENT FIND SOMEONE FOR THE OUTFIELD 1 PLAYER THAT IS CLOSE TO READY THIS YEAR AND STICK THEM THERE HECK WORST WE COULD HAVE IS ANOTHER POTENT BAT

  • DEAR SANDY HAVE BEEN A METS FAN SINCE 1968 AND A LOYAL ONE TOO SINCE I WAS 13 YEARS OLD PLEASE SIR I THINK YOU HAVE THE GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO LEAD THIS TEAM TO GREATNESS PLEASE DO SO THANKS

  • #AskSandy if money were no factor, what players would he have pursued?

#AskSandy, why did it take so long to move Duda from RF to LF last season, even with Bay out most of the year

  • The question I have is one he wouldn’t answer – it is:

“If the intent is to build a team that will compete for years to come, why break up a home grown infield by not even offering Reyes a contract? Why wasn’t some attempt made to sign him up BEFORE the 2011 season, before he won the batting title, when he could have been inked for a lot less than the Marlins ended up paying him? Most Mets fans knew that a player like Reyes comes around maybe once every ten years. He was the most exciting Met since Strawberry and could single handily change the outcome of a game. It’s not like we have a ton of position players waiting in the wings who could replace the offense he gave us. If you couldn’t afford him at the time why not admit it – and quit with the talk that the future of the team has always been the goal?

    • As to your post BEFORE the 2011 season I totally agree.Right on target.
Sandy just came in November 2010 and said he knows that Reyes is a fan favorite and wants to evaluate him from his various health issues including thyroid and I believe hamstring which sidelined him in 2010.

Fair enough. But once Reyes showed he recovered he either should have extended him while relatively cheap (before batting title as you say) or trade him BEFORE the 2011 season.

Sandy’s excuse for NOT trading Reyes during the season was he would only be a rental.

The real reason he was not traded during the season was Reyes’ pursuit of the first batting title for a NY Met.

      There is a follow-up question:

Why did he do neither. That is sign him during ST (remember Reyes said he rather not negotiate during the season) or trade him PRIOR to the 2011 season. And furthermore his jokes of: “I shoulda given him a box of chocolates”,is not funny to the fan base.

This is Sandy Alderson’s biggest fiasco: not either extending or trading Reyes BEFORE 2011 season.

As I repeatedly say I am neither a hater or lover of SA . His pass during the Picard lawsuit is over. Yes we did get a stud pitcher and a stud catcher. Good job there.

The clock is running now: TIC-TOCK.

      • Hi Hotstreak,

No need to ask Sandy about Reyes – we all know the answer. He wanted to but he couldn’t because of the batting title and ramifications of the fan backlash having already sent KRod and Beltran packing.

  • asking sandy if he in the summer of 2013 if santana is doing well does he think of getting an offer of an established outfielder and farm help for santana so that wheeler can come up and claim his spot in the rotation?
