I’m sure most Mets fans feel Bourn is a bad idea because (1) he’s an overpriced BorASS client (2) the Mets lose a first or second round pick for signing him (3) he’s 30 and the record for defensive centerfielders retaining their value past 30 is very poor over the last decade or so.

But he’s the type of player that is right up Omar’s alley, lmao. Omar would probably sign Bourn to a 4-5 year contract at least for roughly 13-15 million per year. He’d become an albatross by year 2 or 3.

If Rauch is re-signed as well, then the addition of Feliciano and Wilson on paper would certainly enhance our chances of improving the bullpen. Francisco moved back to a middle innings guy, Parnell, Rauch, Feliciano leading up to Wilson – would still need help but a whole lot better than last two years (though Rauch had a bad stretch of 17 appearances from late April to early June when he was just about awful nearly every apperance but then straightened himself out until the end of the year when hit hard again five of his last six appearances – so the question is reliability).

But then the Mets would need a top outfielder (or two decent ones) to actually not punt away 2013. Sandy said he has some money but that doesn’t mean he’s using it – so perhaps this whole conversation goes for naught.
