SNY Expanding Met Pre-Game Show To One Hour

Bob Raissman of the Daily News, hears that SNY are making some big changes to the Mets pre-game show including expanding it by 30 minutes and featuring more Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling and Kevin Burkhardt.
Those viewers wanting more of Keith Hernandez , Ron Darling and Gary Cohen will have their wish fulfilled this season. Well-embedded moles say SportsNet New York will be adding a new “pre” pregame studio show prominently featuring the three crooners.
The pre-pregame, anchored by Chris Carlin and Bobby Ojeda, will begin at 6 p.m. Kevin Burkhardt will be in his normal roving reporter role. He also is expected to get additional face time on the show.
A new voice likely will be added to the program as well. At 6:30 p.m., “Mets Pre-Game Live” will begin at its usual time.
In order to make room for the new pregame element, “Wheelhouse” will be canceled. Wheelhouse host Brian Custer gets shifted to the primary anchor spot on SportsNite, SNY’s news/info show, where he will be teamed with Gary Apple.
Besides more Hernandez, Darling, Cohen and Burkhardt, the added half-hour pregame is designed to provide the opportunity for more demonstrational and social media segments. Sources said SNY will also feature beat writers from visiting teams on the show.
To make room for the expanded pre-game show, SNY will be canceling “The Wheelhouse” hosted by Brian Custer, leaving the network with only two “debate” shows, “Daily News Live” and “Loudmouths.”
Another Nugget For You…
Only Chris Carlin, using the intellectual platform of Loudmouths, has the innate ability to bring clarity to serious issues of world crisis — like the Manti Te’o affair.
“What’s the big deal?” Carlin asked. “I’ve made up my share of girlfriends.”

hahaha – now Keith will have to be there even earlier. Oh, boy…..the stories on why he’s late should be good.
I like the idea of an hour of pre-game. YES has already done it with Yankees Batting Practice.
excellent, maybe they can dedicate a whole hour to David Wright’s personal life.
Metsblog reports David Wright is now engaged to model Molly Beers
the bullseye on this guys back is gonna make Oliver Perez’s look like a kid’s dartboard
The similarity in the two are so close too.
One guy was a POS that got way more money and time on a contract before he proved anything and got it anyhow. Then when struggled refused help to get out of his funk because he didn’t “have to”.
The other has proven his worth, career .300 hitter, 6 time all star. A reputation of being a very hard worker, Too many years, perhaps, but the he man haters club will be foaming at the mouth every time he strikes out, or makes an our or God Forbid an error, because even the GREATEST players to ever play, never had one strike out, never left one guy on base, never made an error, but wait until DW does it ONCE and haters club will be celebrating.
Yeah I definitely see the connection between OP and DW – good one
Do you have a DW poster above your bed that you fantasize about every night while looking at it? Seriously dude. Get over it. DW was nowhere in the post yet you have to throw it in there.
This is a good idea. Mets baseball is the reason for SNY, so go with it. As to the the three “debate” (?) shows using the same issues of the day…its redundant. I would like to see expanded coverage of the opposing team. I would like to see daily highlights of the opposing manager’s post game comments. I would love to see a Kiner’s Korner type show in which the game stars of the winning team spoke about their play on the field, of the game just completed.
Kiner’s Korner was a Great show. It gave fans a chance to get to know their home town hero’s and our worthy opponents as people. The groups of two or three brought with it its own chemistry. The club house feel was great. I am so bored with player interviews done as now. Would you enjoy talking Publicly about your latest personal failing, poor performance, opinion or your boss, your compensation, personal ambitions, personal or family problems, or personal and professional rivalries? I think not. So much of what passes for sports journalism is
sorry…fat finger problem….
So much of what passes for sports journalism is investigative coverage worthy of political coverage. We know more about our teams’ finances than we do our local governments.
Kiner’s Korner was FUN. I watch baseball because it is a fun lovely game. Lets start covering the game inside the lines. I love hearing about the key moments of the game. Even a BUM can have a good day. So lets enjoy the good days that we get this coming year.
I’d love a show like that. But, who would host it?
Of course, the first guest would have to be Ralph himself.
Rusty Staub comes to mind. He is articulate, likable and generally concerned other people. He would would be perfect.
Aside from needing to find another Pro Sports team to air in the Winter….
SNY really needs to start improving on the original programming side and this is one way of covering time without the need for yet another PANEL show which seems to be all they do outside of Beer Money.
Pick a team, Get a Panel of Writers, Get a host, TALK!
They need to do more one on one interviews with past players like Kay and McCarver do for other networks.
An Instructional series for kids would be another good show….
They know this but they just don’t have the producer talent to get it done.
And at some point they will have to buy content produced outside the Network then they have a shot at ratings outside of just met games.
Definitely agree, Metsie, they need far better original programming including biography show.
It’s common for young Networks to Just do formulaic programming to fill all the time in a day…
And those Panel shows are the cheapest thing you can do, You pay a host, none of the guests and the crew that shoots it is all being paid to be there anyway even if you shoot nothing.
I wouldn’t expect them to start buying content until all the loans to start the network are paid off , but they do have some talent that would be good for doing some of those things I mentioned….
Truth is what I should do is try and get a meeting to pitch some of these to them! LOL
Let Seaver host it. He would take it to new level.
I always wished Tom Seaver had a bigger role with the Mets post-career. But the truth is that he’s very happy making Cabernet Sauvignon in wine country. Wild horses couldn’t drag him away.
Indeed. That is why he would be perfect for a taped Bio show. He could do it on his time table. He does delight in putting others on the spot. It could lead to news making interviews.
and he could be half in the bag when he does it.
THIS…OR THAT if you Prefer….LOL
He is a Caliman….While he would probably agree to a Bio show where all he had to do were wrap arounds and voice overs it is doubtfull he would be interested in hosting an interview show or doing anything that required a big time commitment.
I do wish he would have a bigger role with this team but where he lives combined with how happy he is doing what he is now and enjoying life I don’t see it happening…
One series they MUST do eventually is do a Bio for each of the people in the Mets HOF…
And do it while there are still people alive to talk about the old timers like Hodges.
Talk to players thay played WITH them, For them and show highlights…
Seaver was so choked up at the All Time Mets show. He loves this team. He is still competitive. I love how throws barbs when he is a group discussion. I think he would love the opportunity to write the history of the Mets. He could even have some of the discussions out at his vineyard. Who would turn down an invite from Tom Terrific?
Well lets be honest he choked up when talking about Hodges…
He most definitly LOVES Hodges…the team? Well he loves it but not enough to get choked up about it! LOL
Most guys from the 69 team who will tell you stories will choke up when talking about Hodges he meant that much to them!
He made them a REAL MLB team after years of being a laughingstock comedy show.
Hi Metsie,
Yes, Tom always chokes up when speaking of Gil Hodges. It is obvious the love and respect he had for this man has not softened over time – now almost 41 years ago. They were both all business when it came to the game and Gil appreciated such discipline in his young player and Seaver in his mentor.
Hell Joey I get choked up thinkng bout Hodges and what could have been if he had just lived for a few more years…..
And I didn’t have to play for him!
I did get to meet him as a kid though…
He is the kind of guy you follow anywhere
Hopefully less of Bobby Ojeda who spoils the pre and post game shows for me.
My issue with Ojeda is that everything seems to be about the Pitcher…They need someone who can give a regular player perspective especially when it comes to the hitting aspects of the game….
And while Carlin is good the entire show might be better if they had a second player instead of him to interact the way Darling and Keith do so well.
Bobby is always kind of angry.
Less of Keith…I know too much about his life.
Ya, someone new. Maybe get Cone away from YES 27 man booth.
