David Wright has been extremely good as a Met. His stats are in the elite category. The Mets are fortunate to have drafted and kept him. That’s one very good signing by Phillips, along with Reyes.

Ironic, that goes against everything Alderson has done. Plus, it is worthy to note it was Jeffy boy who mentioned Wright as an Ambassador and was in on the negotiations. So you are telling me that Alderson, as anal as they come, would enter into negotiations without knowing the value of a guy on the open market because he didnt shop him? Highly unlikely.

Fred and Jeff wanted Wright in a Mets uniform. That much should be clear to everyone.

Doesnt hit for a high average? He is a career .300 hitter which means a lot post steroid era.

He should have won the GG last season so his defense is not subpar.

His RBI totals on a team without a legit leadoff man and a so so offense are up there. I agree at this point he is a 90-100 RBI guy (with about 20HRS). That is plenty of production considering he does play in Citi (put him in Cincinnati and he hits 30 each year).

Is he worth $138M? The better question is how much will the Mets get burnt on this contract because almost every contract longer than 5 years bites a team in the a**. The hope is he can play at this level for 4 years before he starts to tail off. Only time will tell.

There is no one else on the team who can match Wright for HRs and RBI over the time period he’s been a Met. No one.

It’s good to know that no major Met player of the last 10 years or so has come under the heavy PEDs taint that players like A-Rod have.

But a big part of Bourn’s value is in his legs. He gets paid to steal bases. So if he’s not doing it at an effective rate, well then there goes a lot of his value.
