If you don’t know what is in the stat or how it is calculated then you can’t be sure it even applies to the player in question….
You don’t judge power hitters by OBP and BA no more than you judge a leadoff hitter by his SLG or HR totals.

and I don’t actually want Hairston back, but I would still take him over Young for a small amount more money.

I actually would just as soon see Andrew Brown as the RH platoon guy instead of either one of these guys.

I personally don’t want him on the team due to the personal issue and I feel that this team needs to get way better defensively BUT his bat would be a huge improvement over someone like Baxter.

And neither should be getting a lot of playing time on a good team.

You can make that same argument for the crowd that is calling for the Mets to re-sign Scott Hairston!!!

And Hairston is asking for much more than what Delmon got…although Delmon is a much better player…The point is $750,000 for a player that is better and cheaper than Hairston…the only argument you have why Delmon wouldnt be a good signing would be past non baseball related issues.

For the record I am not pro Delmon Young but I understand the argument by Mets fans who want to see this bum Alderson improve the team and are willing to sacrifice defense for some major league help in the outfield….but to the group here who keeps yelling re-sign Hairston they should be the last ones to comment how Delmon Young is a bad signing because of his terrible defense because Hairston is just as bad defensively and Young brings much more to the table on offense

You fail to mention that most of you want the Mets to re-sign Scott Hairston and pay him a couple Million….For all Youngs flaws he is still a FAR SUPERIOR PLAYER to Hairston who is also TERRIBLE on defense.

1. Facts are Delmon Young got drunk and walked around NYC and hurled a bunch of racial slurs at a group of guys that as it turned out werent even Jewish.(so we established he was sh*t faced and the booze was talking)

so what are the big Met OF needs? Speed, defense, RH batter, power. And of course, being the Mets, I suppose cheap…

OK, so what does Delmon bring to the table, based on this profile, if you believe the last 2 full years are what he is?. No speed. No defense. marginal power (HR or otherwise). He is RH. and did sign cheap.

so no, it does not look like he actually fills any met need.

the postseason? Well, those numbers are marginally better than his career, but the only outlier is slugging %. And as with most guys, these are small sample sizes.

last 4 PS series, all 15-19 PAs (SSS), he had an OPS of .667, .513, 1.186, 1.043. So how do you interpret that? some series he is mr. unclutch, some he is an awesome clutch performer? Or is it more likely the normal fluctuation in such a short series, where he had a couple of big hits?

if he really was a 1.000 OPS guy, wouldn’t that come out in the 500+ PAs in the regular season?

anyway, long winded way of saying, he was cheap for a reason, and not just the hate crime arrest!

Yeah, I heard the same thing about Lucas Duda last season. Remind me again how that turned out? Like I said earlier, feed him sliders away and he’ll foolishly chase them every time. Just because it’s his “prime years”, he’ll magically show up? He should’ve showed up by now, especially after he produced 3 years ago, but all he’s done was fall backwards.
