Here is a scout’s description of the average draft process

For the top players, I’ll fill out a report on each player. If my report seems good enough, then our regional boss will come in. If his report is good enough, the national boss will come in. Finally, if his report is good enough, our scouting director will come in.

For those remaining prospects, the “bosses” compile all the player reports and come up with a plan on draft day. At that point, the area scouts have no say. I just deliver the information, and at the end of the day, I don’t have much say on who actually gets drafted.

So yes, the “bosses” aka not the scouts, are more responsible for who gets picked

A scout could cover 30-40 guys in a season. Who actually signs the player is usually a joint decision b/w everyone above the scout
Everyone gets a bit of credit/blame if it goes good/bad.

the fact that tommy t, who has 0 experience as scout director, came up with that extremely odd analysis is very disturbing. Either he got the wrong feedback from the scout ( very unlikely ), or he himself saw highlights fo DC and came up with that garbage of him being an offensive-minded shortstop

Yes we know all clubs bring there 1st rd picks to the major league stadium after the draft. That wasnt my gripe…The Mets paraded him around like he was the 2nd coming they had him take every freaking interview with everyone. They didnt do that with Cecchini and Plawecki this year it was a totally different atmosphere. Maybe they were trying to make a statement due to the fact that the nimmo pick was sort of a symbolic pick as in change of organization thinking and drafting high ceiling. All I know is it wasnt the usual 1st pick welcome to the league.

YOU…Allan Dykstra former 1st rd pick by the Pads under Alderson/DePo regime he was a hell of a hitter in college after they selected him they changed his batting stride at the plate and all of a sudden a kid who used to hit for power, high avg and due to excelling in those 2 categories—also a high obp…All of a sudden after tinkering with him he is now a low avg, High strikeout, High OBP, with homerun power destined to be a Quad-A lifer…1st full season with the Pads he hit a measly .226AVG 11HR’s with 104BB and 103Ks in 537 PA….This is how Alderson and Depo train all their prospects you see how theyre screwing up Duda and Ike with there organizational approach nonsense. This is why they failed to produce any successful bats in San Diego out of the farm under Depo and Sandman.
