I really believe Nimmo is going to be a great player in due time. He showed a great eye with excellent pop for a kid playing with guys two or three years older then him last season. Remember, the extremely powerful Ike Davis did not hit one homerun all season in that league with over 200 at bats and Brandan hit 6. Of course, that doesn't guarantee success, but Nimmo didn't even play H.S ball and showed more power at a younger age than Davis, who got to develop longer through H.S into college. I think people forget to realize that.

That said, the 2011 draft was stocked with talent and the Nimmo pick was a huge gamble considering. They must have felt that due to the great talent in that draft, they could get away with that gamble. I wouldn't have reached so far though with that first pick, but those who say he still would have been there at their next pick are simply dreaming; he wouldn't have been. Luckily, with their next pick, they took Fulmer, who is turning out to be a great young arm.

I'm hoping Nimmo shows tremendous growth this season and gets himself promoted to at least St. Lucy. I think he has the talent to become a star for a long time...

awesome job Satish and Joe D, great insights. I can't wait to see Nimmo in Savannah and I am really looking forward to seeing Tapia, Montero and Mateo this year.

Also, Familia will be in the Mets pen, no doubt about that, just a matter of performing whether he will stick or not

This young pitching is really exciting to read about and watch. The next few years are going to be fun seeing all these guys develop. I'm interested to see what happens with Familia come July. Using him as a starter in AAA until July seems fine to me. I hear the worries about Vegas, but MLB lineups are much scarier to me. That said, I'm sure there are ways to determine if he is progressing and continuing to develop as an MLB-capable starter. Putting him in the bullpen now regresses his development. As for Nimmo, he's light years away, so one can only be excited about the potential and the baby steps.
